Honestly, when you need them to assist, they are useless. Cannot stress enough how much effort i have been going through to simply discharge a mortgage and they simply do not care. stay clear! Show details

Just had a very lengthy phone call with AFG and they are not interested in reviewing interest rates at all. Keep banging on about how competative they are and if I re-finance with another bank it will cost in admin fees. I have 3 other loans and they all negotiated. Will move my AFG onto another bank with lower interest rates.

I have been with AFG for several years without an issue. I'm now unable to access my account and despite numerous attempts and phone calls this hasn't been resolved. Message being if you don't like the phone app we forced on you then thats tough because there is no other option. Show details

I am actually shocked at some of the negative reviews. We have been with AFG edge for 3 years now. Great and efficient with paying invoices on time whilst we built our home. Then the unfortunate happened and I lost my job due to being pregnant. Danny from the department I was dealing with made me feel like AFG cared about my difficult situation.… Read more ·  1

We are finally in a position to start making higher repayments and not once have AFG edge pressured us or made us feel bad that we are seriously struggling with out mortgage. Every time I speak with Danny, he is kind and just so supportive. I cannot fault AFG at all. Always going above and beyond!

With AFG Alpha since pre-covid – Fully variable rate. Understand them passing increases I guess at this time since RBA keeps lifting. To be fair my rate is still very competitive and whenever my broker asked for a reduction so I don't leave, they have given it to us. Have no problem whatsoever contacting customer service either. Show details ·  1

Can you give them less than a 1 star. I would if I could. Was helping my daughter and her husband into a house in the country. We were all listed as purchasers so no problems with guarantees. My income and financial resources should have meant that there was nil risk to the mortgagee and this was confirmed by our accountant. They made ridiculous… Read more

conditions about closing credit cards without any explanation as to why, gave misleading information which caused delays, were difficult or impossible to contact and seemed completely oblivious to either the commercial realities of the financial arrangements, the need to make timely and realistic economic decisions and the borrowers' needs. In the end they caused a delay in settlement, further financial penalty and I didn't proceed with the loan and bought the property with my own funds. Don't use them find someone else.

So our loans have just migrated over to Bendigo Bank but we are unable to access them online through Bendigo. The only way we can access them now is to download an app on my phone. They have scrapped our offset account and Alpha loan info not available in a secure website as per previously. Not good enough for the amount I am paying. Seriously considering remortgaging properties to find something more accessible and better interest rates. Show details

Come to the end of the arrangement, and the arrears figure that they give me does not match the arrears figure that was originally calculated. I was once again told "The system does not make mistakes" (literally those words, after admitting repayments had been restarted on the wrong date). I recalculated the amount multiple times with the person on the phone, and they were unable to tell me where the discrepancy was. I was told I would receive a call on a certain day by a certain time to go through the arrears calculation and determine the exact correct amount, this call never came - when I rang them, the person was not at work that day (WTH would they arrange a call then????). I then went overseas on a work trip which they had been aware of for weeks... I left three messages by phone and sent three emails directly to the person I was dealing with, none of these were responded to until a week after I had left (about 10 days after it had been arranged that they would contact me).

I responded to advise that I was still not happy with the calculation of the arrears, and that I wanted them to show me their side of the calculation. The calculation that they did give me did not make sense, and I needed it explained. I was unable to deal with this due to patchy internet in the remote area I was staying, and I requested a timeslot for a phone meeting with the person that I was dealing with and an extension of the hardship period since I was unable to deal with this. It has now been 2 weeks and I have heard nothing. Repayments started again and I am now in SEVERE hardship due to this company's complete lack of communication and their inability to respond or even do their job.

I am currently suffering severe financial hardship and severe emotional distress due to this company's failure to communicate, and it seems I will have to take legal action if I return home to discover that my credit rating has been affected by this. I have wasted literally DAYS of my life trying to deal with this incompetent company and they are just running me around and around in circles. Customer service is rude and refuses to pass messages on to the person who I am told I HAVE to deal with... I am unable to deal with anyone else, she has taken the case on personally but only works half of the week and will not set appointments, so I have no choice but to sit and wait while nothing gets done.

I will not recommend AFG home loans, Advantedge, or any other NAB subprime spin-off company to anyone, not even my worst enemy. This is by far the worst financial decision of my life and it has taken the shine of the purchase of my first house, I am literally posting the property for sale now as I cannot refinance to a competent lender (due to my change of circumstances) and this company is doing its absolute best to bankrupt me.

Charge $9 for electronic statements, not available in Internet Banking! – They don't provide statements via Internet Banking! You need to email them to ask, and then they charge $9 per statement. What a joke. Seriously, this is in 2025. Do better. Show details

Rubbish – Avoid. Won't negotiate absolutely eye popping top of the market interest rates, no matter what. Waiting on phones and being swapped from person to person.

Absolute disgrace of a company – Tried reducing our payments to my partners half (as was there idea to save us from going into hardship) as I was having major health issues, not only did they do nothing the multiple times. They charged us the full amount multiple times even after many phone calls and had the nerve to pretty much tell me ‘to bad, not our problem’ and blame it… Read more

entirely on me as it ‘was not in their system’. Now we are thousands of dollars in arrears as they would not put our multiple requests through and they are doing absolutely NOTHING to even try and show some human decency. This is absolutely disgusting, I refinanced to them last year because of the interest rate hikes and they said they would help and even raised our rates above the RBA rises.

Years behind competitors – AFG fill a very niche area in the market in the sense that they lend to people that big banks can't (i.e. higher risk clients). They do this by offering uncompetitive interest rates and provide poor online banking services and cut costs in as many areas as possible. It appears they deal directly with brokers to sign you up so contacting them… Read more

through other means appears to be futile. They currently don't have the ability to email you statements and still work with paper forms so are currently thoroughly out of date.

We have three home loans with AFG and at a time when interest rates are sky high (one of our loans with AFG is around 7.5%) they refused to provide any discount in any form whatsoever across our three loans. The fact they cannot help existing customers, especially those like us with more than one loan with them, is extremely disappointing.

We will be refinancing as soon as the current mortgage hostage crisis eases up.

Disgraceful company – Trying to discharge my loan and there's no correspondence. I was told what the fees would be to discharge then when the invoice came through it was over $200 more. Then I get the settlement figure the same day of settlement but it was meant to be paid 3 days prior. What the actual???? Don't use them. They're dodgy, unhelpful and dishonest. Show details

They don't pay anything electronically, they still use cheques, which is ridiculous but also takes extra time due to snail mailing cheques. your interest rates have gone up, again. I ended up paying extra fees due to delay in receiving a cheque payment and they didn't bother to let me know until I questioned them about the extra charges I had to pay. Discharging from them is impossible. They rescheduled my settlement date, on the date, 5 times, my new bank and I have made formal complaints due to their incompetence. I had to speak directly to their solicitor and threaten legal action myself if they didn't settle asap. Do yourself a big favour and stay away from AFG Home Loans.

Shocking interest rates no customer service – STAY AWAY…..No issue can be resolved with them because they have no customer service they just throw you over to the next person who also has no response it’s like an endless loop. suggested taking a extra 50 from me to cover just incase but they said no and now they will taking a further 7 days interest. The worst financial institution I have ever delt with, refinancing and found a interest rate half of what they were charging me. I had increased payment amounts and no letters and they would say, "it probably got lost in the mail".. communication is nil, no notice before settlement, to state it wasnt going ahead, claimed they tried to contact me but yet no missed calls. 7 days longer with them, huge interest rate, due to a 4.95 coffee out of savings, locked out, then was given access and told to transfer the money out..yet couldnt settled if i used it to buy a coffee.. highway robbery and a disgrace playing with ppls money like that and causing further stress at times where ppl are doing it tough.. DO NOT USE THEM. they should be investigated..

Customer services is very very bad – I want to discharge my loan but 2 weeks still haven't got the discharge form yet. I called and talked to customer services 3 times but their responses are unhelpful and irresponsible. I never use AFG again.

RIP off – Non existent, always had an answer why they could not drop my rate. Yeats if/when they finally answered the call. An absolute joke..... They just seemed very uncooperative, like they were doing you a favour. Very unhelpfull and dismissive. Warning - stay away from AFG – Absolutely no customer service. Easy to get a loan with, but when you want to leave due to their ridiculous interest rates etc they make it difficult. Found out our loan is actually with a 3rd party and NOT AFG. Show details

of the requirement when building in a new estate the builder adds a fire levy charge for fire zoned areas. Once land is released we find out if the fire zone is no longer in a fire zone area so the builder credits back the charge at final invoice. Well AFG decided that it was thier money to keep instead. So the $6299 in surplus funds the bank has basically stolen from me and refuse to put it back into my offset account. My broker is fighting with the bank also to get these funds back. Please no one go with AFG Home Loans

Don't EVER use then – Went with them for a great introductory rate, but didn't keep rate competitive for existing clients. Paid more than required weekly and wasn't made easy to redraw. After redrawing once had to contact them again to do it again. Now refinancing for a rate of more than 1% better, the settlement date has already been pushed back by AFG three times.
