Green colour - 139cc Gardenline Petrol Lawn Mower (not self propelled) – This is the Green colour 'Gardenline Essentials' mower from Aldi November 2015. Similar to other reviews - there are some good and bad points. Positives are : 1. Cheapest in the market - it cost $139 2. Easy to start - usually starts first go! And still running smoothly after 4 years 3. Perfectly reliable - no mechanical problems at all 4. Easy… Read more

to use Plastic (not fabric) catcher - more durable 5. Plenty of power for most medium size yards 6. 3-year warranty - fantastic piece-of-mind! 7. It cuts the grass! 8. Only cost $139!!!

Negatives: 1. The grass chute gets clogged if the grass is very long, or if the grass is damp 2. Works best on the highest grass-cutting setting - lower/shorter cuts makes the mower hard to push or it digs into the turf 3. If your turf is very soft underfoot, the front of the mower can dig into the ground - previous reviews have said the same characteristic 4. The paint peels off/chips off over time, exposing bare steel. It wasn't powder-coated at the factory. 5. Should last 10-15 years for small/medium yards - whereas a Victa 2-Stroke will probably last 20+ years!

So, I see this mower ideal for a person on a budget - basically it has 80% of the capability of a Honda/Victa mower for 25% of the price!

It isn't perfect, but if you can put up with the chute getting clogged, or sometimes being hard to push on soft turf, then it'll be a wise purchase.

A.VERY.GOOD.MOWER."MISUNDERSTOOD" – These ALDI Mowers may have got a dubious reputation if they were sold UN-TUNED like mine, that I've had since 2014 and has never missed a "beat". Once I correctly tuned it after seeing how gutless it was it took half the time to mow the lawn as I had twice the power. NB.......the secret to trouble free MOWING is to ALWAYS filter your fuel and USE… Read more

A PAPER COFFEE FILTER IN YOUR CLEAN FUNNEL........Change the SPARK PLUG and oil (if 4 stroke) every 6-12 months with plain mineral 20/50/ or 15/40

ALWAYS clean with water jet underneath thoroughly with EVERY use............(GRASS contains ACID).................no brainer.

The only design fault is the position of the CARBY whose auxilliary plates are out front and easily hit..........This causes the PLASTIC Intake pipe between Carby and Engine to SNAP but which can be repaired with a SPECIFIC 2 part LIGHT/CURING epoxy glue which is still working years after longer than I can recall! (4 HOURS LABOUR)

I'm also impressed the Wheels and the Gearbox Drive are still as good today as 9 years ago when new. BV

good for 6 years, – Purchased in October 2016 for around $139.00 and still with the original blade in satisfactory condition in November 2022. Serviced with oil changes and spark plugs as per the manual, by me. 30/11/2022: While mowing a normal length lawn cut for about 15 minutes there was a loud backfire and engine stall. resulted in short backfires and a severe kickback with the cord being ripped out of my hand. It was a good buy and I am now looking for a replacement mower.

Disappointed – Was quite quiet and easy to start but did not make it through to end of 2nd year. My friend also bought one a few months after and it also died a few months after mine. I like Aldi a lot for food and things with non moving parts but build quality is not made to last. Show details

Heavy and not enough power, it has no throttle – I can not cut at number one position anymore, the mower get stuck, not enough power to cut. Blades are sharp. Getting the mower up hill is hardwork, it is heavy and not self propelled. If your garden is flat it would be easier. To start mower is easy although no throttle switch only on and off. Fuel lne kept coming off had to get clamps to keep… Read more

Works With Some Irritations – Cheap mower from Aldi. It has good and bad points to it. Let me say the construction at first seems reasonably robust but closer inspection reveals cheap plastics and flimsy parts here and there. Much like a cheap pushbike. It does start easily every time and does a fairly good job of cutting and I like the larger wheels - I have a big area to… Read more

mow. Fuel use is OK too. It's just hard to see this lasting into the future like Victas and Rovers.

Good mower – Purchased in late 2016 or early 2017. Has started first go everytime. As a women have no idea how to do a service. Have only cleaned air filter and topped with oil. Dont have a big enough car to drive it to get a service. Wish catcher was solid though, dont like the holes in it. Cuts well still. Still going strong. Has a few missing parts though. For the price i think its definately worth it. Show details

Great mower drives itself – I bought this gladiator mower from Aldi about 6 years ago and have given it a real pissling. Aldi what happened and they replaced it no issues The new one has been ok so far but has no primer and sometimes is hard to start . Once going I still cable tie the stop lever but I cut the cable tie to stop . Learnt my lesson . it is 4 years old now and still drives and cuts great

I, too had a fuel leak _ Gardenline 139CC green mower – When I finished mowing and parked the mower all fuel leaked to ground. Took mower to the local guys in Shellharbour who wanted NOTHING to do with Gardenline products. Ben from HiQual Mowers in Myall Way APR came to the rescue. He flushed the carbi and so far so good. ALDI Petrol Mower 139cc – This mower does a pretty good job, it also starts easily and runs well, the grass catcher work well too. Never had a problem with it and have been using it for over 2 years. Excellent value for the price, only paid $139.00 for it. Not too noisy either. Highly recommended.  Show details

Going well so far – I got this in Aldi's special buys and despite my initial reservations, it is running well. Of course these are mass produced and just pumped out, so I made a few adjustments, to idy and tune it up before regular use. At First I thought it was too cheaply made to be any good but having used it for two years now I think its quite OK for the cheap price  Show details

Not too bad for a "no brand" mower – Got this in one of the Aldi special buys. Aldi is always a bit of a gamble for things like this but I read reviews saying that this was quite OK and I have found that true. For a no brand machine, it has been very reliable (two years now) and apart from some dubious quality metals here and there, I am happy enough with it. It always starts (need… Read more

There could have been a death! – This mower was purchased as a Christmas gift in 2016. We have a tiered property and it is difficult to drag the lawn mower to the back. My father in law purchased this for us and it was kept in the lower backyard shed. Over the year of ownership it has been used 5 to 6 times on a lawn approx 50sqm. Fuel and oil always checked prior to use. The… Read more

last 2 times we attempted to use it just wasn't starting. Motor checked over. No apparent reasons why it wouldn't start.

We would give up and use the front yard lawn mower. Finally it started this weekend but didn't sound right. Our children helping with the sweeping then KAPOW. The entire side of the aluminum engine exploded. How is this possible? There could have been a serious injury.

Due to the fact that is only really worked a handful of times then exploded, yep not recommending.

Wish I could post the photos on here!

liking meaning we had to mow more often.

Throttle cable near engine required adjusting several times due to weak construction.

Still not a bad mower for the price.

Now to see what Aldi will do as a replacement or refund with the letter from repairer stating it is cactus.

Edit to add: Nice to report back that Aldi refunded the whole purchase price of $399 with no hassle.

Cheap simple mower – A little bit hesitant at first but mower was easy to assemble and get working. Easy to start and solid cutting blade does a good job. We were looking for a light easy to manage mower and this is perfect for the job. Mower runs at one speed and is quiet. We have used it on a large lawn area. Only negative part is the catcher. Quite a small capacity and needs changing often.  Show details

Poor quality body, great engine – I purchased the 21inch self-propelled lawn mower in August 2016 (model number 49291) but only started using it 12 months ago. The B&S engine is great, starts first pull and has plenty of grunt but everything else on the mower is of poor quality and poorly designed. Here is the list of the design flaws: -The chute going into the catcher blocks up… Read more

with grass causing the engine to work really hard and stalling

-The handles on the self-propelled speed mechanism and height adjustment protrude too far and get caught on my fence

-The catcher was difficult to assemble (only 2 parts) and is tricky attach to the mower

-The mower leaves lines of cut grass

-The mulcher doesn't really mulch the grass into fine enough pieces

Now the faults:

-The self-propelled drive cable broke

-The plastic teeth on the inner side of the right wheel that engage the self-propelled drive cog have broken causing the mower to veer to the left.

I have lodged a warranty claim so I will see what happens.

It mows grass ok, but breaks well – Looks the part out of the box, easy to put together and at this point you realise you have just bought a really cheap mower. First few mows are great and I'm starting to think maybe this isn't that bad after all. After about 6 mows I take the wipper snipper I bought at the same time back within the 90 day no question period from Aldi (no hassles… Read more

at all) it had less than an hours use. Mower still runs well at this time.

No idea when but mower starts to cut uneven ( oh well we have a 3 year warranty) and it is barely noticeable. Short time after it starts to turn corners on it's own while self-propelling.... 3 year warranty.... Front wheels require a little tap an she is like good as new again.

Anyway this thing mows fine for a cheap mower because that is what it is, until after about 16 months I notice the catcher is getting hard to remove. I'd only been using it for about 2 months. Previously i had mulched straight back onto previously mowed area and loved the ability to do so. A bit of self diagnosis and the handle is bent. After a gentle massage to straighten it, we last a single lap of the yard and are straight back to the same place.... try again. Half a lap more and the same result. Anyway after way to much effort for a self-propelled mower I finish the mowing give this beast its customary after workout bath and throw her in the car for a trip down to Aldi to test out this warranty.

Fast forward to Aldi after driving through a lightning storm, hopping out of the car with the 4 year old son, getting drenched in the process and then gently wheeling the mower into the shop only to be informed that because it is more than 12 months old it now gets dealt with directly by the manufacturer. OK back into the rain and into the car and home, nothing can be done now on a Saturday arvo.

I call the number I'm told to call and receive nothing but computer generated messages, number prompts and on hold messages, an option to leave contact details and eventually get forced to leave a message. 2 more attempts later to see if I get a different result I find myself here.

Where do i go now. Will this situation improve. I have written is long winded review and still no call back. I've read a few of the other reviews and after what I've read about other peoples experiences in similar circumstances I will not be holding my breath on a favourable outcome. I don't have the time or patience to waste on a $400 mower. I'll give it a little bit more effort but after that I'll add this to my Aldi lesson. 90% of their centre Isle is absolute garbage and disappointing, (this mower being the most expensive item I have ever bought from them and I was hoping for better things) it is only that 10% of awesome items that keep you coming back. Oh well maybe next time.

great mower – I'm a lady and even I can use it I love it starts everytime first Pull easy as and light to handle the catcher is easy to replace and remove and it has a good selection of height ranges so that you don't chop everything out of your grass... not overly expensive that works every bit as good as the expensive ones love it  Show details

Self propelled and powerful – We bought the self propelled mower. I think 350 maybe 399 not too sure. Not amazing but assume for the price – It is a simple 4 stroke mower. I only mow about every 1-2 months, so it took a bit to get started, but when I put some high octane petrol in it the other day and it when like a beast. This is perfect for around the back yard. I would give it 5 stars if it has a self drive function.  Show details

Good value – While I think it's more European in its design and settings you can adapt to our conditions, like a snorkel for the air cleaner.
