ALDI Expressi Machine In-Depth Review

ProductReview.com.au's selected consumer review.

5 Abi B  · Works well even after a decade of daily use. Brought in early in 2015 at ALDI. It has made several 1000s of coffees
1 Geoff A.  · On my second machine I calculate that they cost me $10 a week to own Buy one if you think that they are worth it but don't stock up on pods
4 Bruna  · great product for the price. the coffee is great and its hot. for the price i think its a really good machine
2 Lois M  · We bought the new smaller version in May 2025. It leaks like a sieve. ( still tastes the same as the old version) So way more cleaning up every day.
1 Karen Cassidy  · Last only as long as the warranty. Noisy , makes bitter coffee , drips , pods get jammed , leaks then simply stops working . Pretty much a waste of money .
2 Ray  · Disappointed – Bought one in November. Easy to use and good coffee but just stopped working. Won't turn on. Very disappointing

We have had two of these machines in the last six months The first started leaking hot water over our bench after four months and was probably dangerous I hadn't kept the receipt so couldn't claim the warranty and foolishly bought a second one This one lasted two months Wise me had kept the receipt so called up to claim (24 month warranty) What a… Read more

runaround! I was asked what capsules I had been using and even asked to send photos of the boxes and used capsules It was pretty apparent to me that Aldi warranties are worth no more than chewing gum on the footpath Until they stopped working they made good coffee but bear in mind they are temporary so don't stock up on capsules

Great Pod Machine for the Price – I was given an Aldi Expressi Coffee machine (pod/capsule) for my birthday 4 years ago. Pretty pleased with the reliability and results. It isn't as good as a full-on expresso machine, they are a different "kettle of fish". A pod machine should be quick and easy to use, make a suitable beverage, be reliable, and easy to maintain. The Expressi… Read more

meets all the above criteria. Typically retails around $79, and the pods are $6.50 for 16 pods, so it won't burn your wallet at $0.41 each! I've had some better pod coffee, and many worse ones, compared to what this Aldi machine makes. Better coffee than ANY drip machine. The factory default has two modes, a short and a long. But you can program these to dispense the volume you prefer. The Aldi coffee pods come in continuous strengths and various styles from 5 (Tauro) to 14 (Intense). There are also Organic at strength 8, Decaf 7, Chai Latte, Regular and White hot chocolates. Various flavoured coffees are regularly produced as limited releases. To be honest, there are some varieties I do not like the taste, but I do like more than half of the varieties. The best results are obtained with a decent milk. The FARMHOUSE GOLD MILK (blue lid) makes a very good crema. The Aldi machine is "slim line", average/large sized and extremely easy to keep clean. It also fits my favourite, VERY large mugs (12 cm tall, 350 ml). I typically use pod strength 11-14 for a mug. The warm up time is 15 seconds and the machine has a mandatory rinse cycle. An auto shut off activates after 3-5 mins if not being used. Although it can be switched on again without the warm up and mandatory rinse cycle within a few minutes of the auto shut off activation. There are many smaller machines on the market if space is critical, but they have smaller water tanks, tiny bins and usually won't fit the larger mugs. The Aldi Expressi has several different colour options. A minor nuisance: occasionally a pod drops directly into the bin when you insert it. But it is easily retrieved and is perfectly useable as the pod isn't pierced when this happens. Also the water level cannot be observed in the plastic water tank, nor can you see when the bin is full. However, this is pretty typical with most pod machines. The water tank capacity and bin capacity are higher than most pod machines (the bin holds 7 pods). It's easy to check the water level via top, rear lid. The water tank and the bin both lift off the base for easy cleaning. Summary Good Points: Fairly decent coffee for a pod machine, lots of beverage options. Price $79. Pods $0.46 each. Reliable, & easy to use. Auto shut off. Programmable. Large Bin. Large Water tank. Fits large mugs. Bad points: Cannot observe water or bin levels. Sometimes a pod "drops" through (but pod isn't damaged).

Coffee Pod selection is good. After 3 weeks, coffee pods started to fail. About 1 in 3 pods do not work in the machine due to: - machine fails to pierce the pod - the pod will not fit in machine (pod cover has expanded) - pod seal is poor I do not recommend and was disappointed in a review I had read elsewhere, which rated it the best pod machine in 2024

After many years useage Jan 2018 the coffee flow reduced. To lift the handle at top it was evident a pressure buildup had occurred. Our first remedy was to de calcify with vinegar. No improvement. SOLUTION: with a small skewer I punched two small holes in the top of the pod before loading Pod. Fortunately for us, it works like new again. Hope this helps others with same problem. Show details

Today, a third Aldi coffee machine EXP-19CCMB broke down in less than 12 months. Water starts leaking through the machine. After I cleaned it, I plugged it back and attempted using it without coffee pod. Water went through the system ok no leaks.… Read more

Then I put coffee pod it started running and I heard what sounded like electrical pop inside the machine. Machine stopped working completely no lights came on and a bit of water came underneath the machine. I am now thinking there could be electrical hazard if water is somehow finding a way into electrics but I can not prove this as I haven’t opened it up. Completely disappointed with this product yet the coffee is great.

P.S. I have logged product recall request form on ACCC website on safety grounds with water leak and on the back of all reviews on the product review website.

Follow-up  · - a month later getting stuffed around by Aldi warranty team, sent the details multiple times, sent photos, sent video, apparently AU Post was going to send me an instruction for postage back. none of that happened after several followups. - absolute joke

Small, pokey, all plastic. Looks like it should be in a dolls house. Previous Aldi machine used every day for 13 years. Coffee heat ok as long as I microwave milk. Show details

Follow-up  · After seeing other peoples reviews I consider myself lucky it doesn't leak. The Kfee machine was a pleasure to use - I find I don't use this much because it is not a pleasurable experience. I am considering resurrecting my percolater. When I use Milano (non Kfee) sometimes it won't push any water through. Then I open it (under pressure) and the capsule falls apart. Then it is a cleaning job.

I don't know what it is with these aldi pod machines, but they are not made to last 12 months. I am on my 4th machine in 3.5 years ,and every single time it has been pump issues From the word go these machines have trouble pushing the water through their pods I have to prepuncture a hole into the pod before I put it in the machine to ensure that… Read more

the pump can take the force of the water trying to get through the hole that the machine punch clearly.doesnt make big enough The only reason I persist with these machines is overall cost I get a 2 year warranty which basically means I've been getting a new machine every year for 4 years at no out of pocket cost, and the Pods are very cheap with a great selection of strengths and flavors to keep me satisfied-which is the only reason i give it 3 stars I WANT to love these machines, but clearly the design is flawed, even when I bought the near $200 white with larger side by side water tank model,it had the same problem(but didn't even last a week before it started to leak water and fail to turn on) As for temp, they could be a bit hotter.this machine pours out coffee that's ready to drink immediately, but does tend to go cold quite quickly.and they don't pour out enough coffee for most people to enjoy a full cup of black or any full cup coffee that isn't a latte The coffee itself is quite nice, not as good as an espresso machine, but 1000x better than instant. especially when combined with frothed milk Aldi if you're reading this, sort out these pump issues and get non milk and sugar Caramel flavoured pods(like Gloria Jeans) and I will give you full stars every day!!

Best coffee at this price-point – At the price of $0.30 per capsule and roughly $70 for the machine, I think you'll be hard-pressed (pun intended) to find a machine that makes a better coffee. The pods themselves are excellent. And the decaf pods are the best decaf coffee I've ever had. (since **most** decaf you get from cafes has been sitting on the shelf, pre-ground, taking in… Read more

way too much oxygen for way too long, resulting in a pretty miserable tasting decaf) Put another way, the way that pods are sealed right after the bean being ground is a boon to decaf drinkers that long for a fresher brew.

1 potential drawback is that there's no milk frother included, so you'll need to decide how you're going to deal with that. Personally I'm not a huge froth guy, so I'm happy with just topping it up with regular milk which cools it to a nicer drinking temp anyway. This isn't personally something I think it lacks, but I could see some people having an issue with this, but again, I couldn't care less.

Adequate for day to day use – Inexpensive entry level machine perfect for intermittent or light (1-3 cups) daily use. Build quality and features are what you'd expect for a machine costing $79 at time of purchase. 3 buttons - expresso - lungo - clean/milk; can't get much simpler than that. I find the quality of the Pods good - I have a couple of favourite flavours. Never had… Read more

an issue with temperature.

The benefits overall: Pods are 0.37c each - cheaper than most on the market and come in 16pc packs. 13 different varieties of flavours (including decaf, hot chocolate) + occasional specials. Not too big - width is good but depth of machine might be a problem for some.

Downsides: Water container could be: bigger, clear (able to see level) and mounted in sight of the user. Inconsistent fill heights - not major but sometimes noticeable Pods mainly available from 1 store. Pod piercing/loading mechanism - not flimsy, but not great either. Plastic Pods

Would certainly recommend to friends/family who are occasional drinkers or 1-3 a day usage.

Had one of the older models and found it unimpressive; the coffee it made was so-so. Have bought a new one recently, and I actually really like that it's so much smaller than the older model. work with.

It's super compact, relatively stylish, and I find that the coffee it makes is perfectly acceptable. No bells and whistles; very easy to use with just two buttons (40 and 80ml, I think) and a mechanical lever to push down and release pods.

I see some people (both here and on other social media sites) complaining that the pods don't quite fit. I haven't experienced this problem. This Expressi pods fit well, as do the Vittorio pods I purchased.

Simple, basic, but effective.

Lately, the Abruzzo 12 pods need to be pierced to allow air out as they are bloated and do not drop in the receptor. Once gently pierced, they are ok, shouldn't need to work out the science on these items, as some folk won't work it out. Show details

Aldi should be embarrassed that it still has this dreadful machine for sale and it also reflects badly on Canstar Blu that it rates it highly . It is truly awful . The new rounded machine is awful. I'm about to return my second one in a year. The older machine lasted years. This new type leaks water onto the bench. And a lot of the time the coffee dispenses into the used coffee pod section instead of the cup. A lot of wasted pods. The only reason I'm still getting another one is the warranty allows me to keep swapping my machine over and the coffee, when it comes through, is fine Show details

The old, squarish machine was excellent, lasted several years before finally giving up the ghost. The new, rounder one is an example of very shoddy workmanship, I've had to replace it five times in a year before giving up and getting a refund (thankfully my local ALDI didn't make a fuss, I had the receipt and the cashier had a similar poor experience). This machine is a big let down. It is very noisy and it vibrates so the coffee cup slides off the base. I have had to put a small piece of rubber matting on the base to keep my cup from falling off.
