Broken promises, poor communication, and disappointing service. Booked my motorhome in a week ago for a service specifically with this business because they promised they could complete the work a week ago. Based on this commitment, I actually cancelled an appointment with another provider who had a later date.Unfortunately, the experience was… Read more

incredibly disappointing. Communication was non-existent. I had to call several times just to get an update, and I never received a single return phone call or progress report regarding my vehicle. The only saving grace was that the receptionists were polite whenever I actually managed to get them on the phone. However, politeness does not make up for broken promises and a complete lack of professional communication. I am extremely disappointed with the service and would not recommend them based on this experience.

This was, without exaggeration, one of the worst rental experiences I’ve ever had. We rented a campervan from Mighty/Apollo and received a vehicle of extremely poor quality, with unacceptable structural and electrical issues. The van did not even deliver half of what was promised and completely failed during our trip. From day one, the fridge… Read more

was not working. As a result, all of our meal prep had to be thrown away.. over AUD 300 worth of food wasted, plus additional expenses buying food at the event (with no healthy options available). The microwave didn’t even turn its light on, and the air conditioning in the living area never worked.

On the second night, the van completely died. No power. No response. On the third day, after the festival ended, we borrowed a generator and tried everything: charging via power input, front battery, side battery .. nothing worked. The van was completely unresponsive.

We were forced to leave the site because it was private property, with no bathroom or shower facilities, and we were warned we would be charged an overnight fee per person if we stayed. We literally had no choice.

Because of this, we had to find transport for SIX people, splitting ourselves into multiple rides, sharing fuel costs with people who gave us a lift .. and leaving our personal belongings behind in the van, as there was no way to transport everything.

I contacted roadside assistance, and the attendant repeatedly said, “I don’t know what to do.” Completely incompetent. I had to explain to him that the only logical solution was to send someone to collect the van.. because, shockingly, I cannot put a campervan in my pocket and take it home. No help was provided.

We left the site expecting to be contacted with a solution. That never happened. No email. No call.

The following day, I called again. Same situation: no solution, no follow-up. The attendant said someone would arrange a pickup. Again, no one ever contacted us.

Only days later did someone from Mighty call asking what had happened.. forcing me to repeat the entire story yet again due to their total lack of internal communication. Shortly after that, someone from Apollo called to say we would be charged for “abandoning” the van.

This accusation is beyond ridiculous.

We did not abandon the van — we were abandoned by their support team, after being given a van that was clearly not fit for purpose. It feels like this company looks for every possible opportunity to extract money from customers, even when the failure is entirely theirs.

On top of everything else, we had to: • Find last-minute transport for six people; • Share fuel costs with people who helped us leave the site; • Lose a large amount of food due to the broken fridge; • Leave our belongings behind due to lack of transport; • Spend countless hours on phone calls, emails, and now writing this review, trying to fix a problem that should never have happened in the first place.

This experience caused enormous stress, financial loss, and wasted time. If you value your money, your safety, or your sanity.. do not rent from Mighty/Apollo.

Almost a week later, we finally got our belongings back after being told that a mechanic would inspect the van to figure out what had happened and whether we would be compensated for all the stress and inconvenience caused.

I spent weeks trying to follow up with Denise.

Every time she answered the phone, she said she was busy and couldn’t talk, promising to call me back later. She never did. Eventually, she stopped answering my calls and messages altogether.

It’s now been 4 months, and nothing has been resolved. No explanation, no refund, and no follow-up. After everything that happened, being ignored for months has only made an already terrible experience even worse. Which means they know they’re completely WRONG.

Strong Warning: Avoid Apollo Campervan Hire at All Costs! – Strong Warning: Avoid Apollo Campervan Hire at All Costs! ⭐️ Rating: 1 out of 5 stars (as zero stars is not an option) My recent rental experience with Apollo Campervan Hire was an unmitigated disaster, and I strongly advise against entrusting them with your travel plans. Brace yourself for a narrative of incompetence and neglect. Rental Process:… Read more

Picture this: I specifically requested a cozy two-seater layout from Hippy Campers via Campervan Rental Shop. What did I get? A clunky four-seater Apollo monstrosity. And thus began the saga of being tossed between apathetic representatives like a hot potato. Campervan Rental Shop pointed fingers at Apollo, who, in turn, shuffled me around like a deck of cards. No one took responsibility; everyone passed the blame. Vehicle Condition: Now, let's talk about the sorry state of the vehicle they dared to call roadworthy. From the get-go, it was evident that maintenance was a foreign concept to Apollo. Worn-out tires? Check. Filthy interior reminiscent of a dumpster? Double check. And let's not forget the electrical system, which seemed to have a vendetta against functioning properly. Oh, and did I mention the leaking roof? It turned our adventure into a soggy mess, damaging our belongings and dampening our spirits. Customer Service: [Name Removed] from the Sydney office deserves a special mention for her stunning lack of helpfulness. Promises of callbacks? Empty. Follow-ups? Non-existent. And my formal complaint? Lost in the void of indifference. Despite their alleged commitment to respond within 14 days, the silence is deafening. It's abundantly clear that Apollo's idea of customer service is as mythical as their namesake. In summary, Apollo Campervan Hire's performance was a spectacular display of failure. For the hefty price tag attached, you'd expect more than a comedy of errors and sheer incompetence. Spare yourself the agony and seek alternatives. Your sanity (and your wallet) will thank you.

Exposing Hidden Fees and Deceptive Practices: My Disappointing Experience with Hippie Camper – I recently rented a camper van from Hippie Camper and had a frustrating experience with their driver’s license translation policy. When I booked the van, I was told that I would need an English translation of my foreign driver's license. On the day of pick-up, the company offered a translation service for $110 to have it done in 20 minutes, which… Read more

I found excessive. I later learned that NAATI-certified translators typically charge less than $40 for the same service.

When we refused to pay the inflated price and chose to get the translation elsewhere, we were still allowed to pick up the van without showing either the translation or a receipt. This made it clear that the company is more focused on profiting from the expensive translation service than actually enforcing any legitimate policy. It was frustrating to see that once we didn't use their overpriced service, they had no issue letting us leave with the van, which raises doubts about the necessity of their translation fee in the first place.

Additionally, on the day of pick-up, the company strongly recommended we purchase extra insurance, which was not available when booking the van online. They instilled fear by highlighting potential issues with the van that wouldn't be covered by the initial insurance we had chosen. This pressure to buy additional coverage was unsettling, and it felt like a tactic to get us to pay more for something we hadn't been told about when we first made the reservation. This added cost, combined with the overpriced translation service, made the entire experience feel like a money grab.

Overall, Hippie Camper seems to rely on fear and hidden charges to increase their profits, and I would advise future customers to be cautious about the company's practices and additional costs.

Rude Staff – Don't want to put any star. The vehicle we picked up from Sydney site was not what we saw online. Lower and older version comparing to their online photos. Rethink if you don't want your holiday get a bad star or awful end.

Great trip with the Euro Tourer! – We picked up the Euro Tourer in Darwin for our Outback trip in July 2022. Lauren in the Darwin office was fantastic to deal with. and we enjoyed this way of traveling immensely.

A few things that we can look back on and offer as suggestions to others or for ourselves for any future trips...

1. Pack a few tea towels and a couple of scourers (to clean fry pans!) from home! 2. Decant a bit of dish washing detergent into a small plastic bottle and bring with you from home! 3. Take the time to organise your clothes etc into the storage options in the vehicle. 4. Leave enough time when you are on your way back to return vehicle at the end of your trip, to drop by a supermarket and donate leftover, unused/unopened groceries. 5. As we were totally unfamiliar with where we were traveling, we thought we'd need the toilet and shower in the Tourer so paid extra for this option. We did not use them at all! Caravan parks have adequate to excellent facilities. 6. Check the fine print in the contract. The main one we didn't take notice of was the fee when you are late back to the depot. We got lost looking for Berry Springs after using 'Maps' leading us on a dodgy route. Our fault but we copped a fee for being late. 7. On reading the reviews here, there are a lot complaining about having to pay for damage etc to vehicle. Take out the insurance! There are alternative options if you don't want to pay it directly to Apollo but seriously, don't spoil your trip by not having the insurance.

NEVER rent an Apollo motorhome! We've now been stuck in one for two days and they have virtually ignored all calls and emails to come out and fix the problem. We’ve rented a top of the line 4 berth motorhome from Apollo in Darwin two days ago. Apparently Apollo advertise their Motorhomes are hired out and replaced after about four years. Ours… Read more

was 3 years and 11 months old.

The rear view mirror unbeknownst to me had, prior to our rental commencing actually been glued in upside down, making looking through the rear windscreen impossible. It is impossible the installer didn’t know what they had done.

The mirror fell off whilst driving and we pulled into the nearest caravan park.

I contacted Apollo who said nothing could be done until the next morning.

I again contacted Apollo in the morning and said exactly what any person coming out to fix the problem would require (glue, a new mount and mirror).

About midday after a number of further phone calls a road service technician turned up, said he’d never seen anything like it in his life, that he was unable to fix the problem and Apollo would have to get a windscreen technician to attend the park to fix the problem.

Another five-six phone calls that day to Apollo, with two assurances a manager would return our call amounted to nothing happening and no phone call from a manager.

Early morning the next day (26 Aug) I phoned again and was told Apollo had to contact the repairer. Their office could not contact them via phone (no anwswer) and I was advised an email had been sent and Apollo would call me back when they have an answer.

Whilst being stuck in a caravan park for two days now we also noticed other problems with this motorhome.

This is day 2 of about a 14 day rental.

We’re now stuck in limbo as we’ve reported the problem to Apollo that would now void our insurance should we drive the vehicle anywhere as legally it’s not roadworthy, yet they after about nine phone calls have done virtually nothing.

Thanks Apollo, never again. Enjoy the paperwork that will inevitably follow.

After flying 2,700 kilometres to Perth the van was not ready. We had arrived at Mighty Campers at 12.00 18/3/2025 to be told the van was not ready; it was ready at about 2.30/3.00 pm. Delay due to replacement of tyres. Next there was a delay due to brake pads being replaced. I had rung on 3/3 to confirm pick up and advised all was okay. We were… Read more

not kept informed and had to chase up numerous staff to find out what was going on.

Van not what we had signed up to: Apollo rather than Mighty Juice. I hadn't really thought about it but would have thought there would be a TV. There was a multimedia screen for your own multimedia but no TV reception!

We had a very unsatisfactory handover. Van was old and grubby. Pull out BBQ as advertised was not there. Given a pathetic little gas burner to replace it! Also given one days rent compensation approximately $200. There was no manual provided for the van. I found it very unfriendly to use.

Electrical cover was broken and nearly falling off. Access to the sulage connection was virtually impossible unless lying on the ground (too much for me at age 71). Other vans have easy access as they have the connection facing outwards from under the van. Spent time trying to find a connection that would help but no success.

Couldn't get GPS to work properly and volume was too loud; I would suggest the screen had been belted that much it was basically inoperable. We purchased our own iphone holder and used our own phone.

Due to delay we were advised that we would get the refuelling pack and gas bottle pack valued at $199. As it was we only used the gas once to test it.

On cleaning the windows 2 days after pick up and still in Perth we noticed 3 small chips in the windscreen. We had only done 160-170 kms in Perth so we rang and advised that these would have been pre existing in our opinion. Eva sent an accident form but I replied by email that there had been no accident and we were just reporting the chips and sent a photo.

Three days after pick up I tried to get sullage to work. Brooke (THL) suggested filling it up more and if didn't work, stick a hose up the outlet and try to clear the blockage. This seemed to work but subsequently was blocked again. We basically didn't use the sink or shower for the whole trip.

On 26 March in Margaret River an error message of 'Right low dip'. Checked the lights and our right headlight was not working. Rang THL and advised to take the van to Margaret River auto electrician to get the bulb replaced and keep the receipt ($80). This we did and the auto electrician was excellent. He advised that the blown bulb had not been installed correctly and that was why it blew. They also showed us how to scroll the dashboard information.

On 30 March we started getting an error message on the dash that the side door was not closed. This was accompanied by very annoying pinging noises. This wasn't too bad initially but became worse over time.

Friday 18 April new error message: 'front left malfunction; consult workshop'. We rang THL and were asked to send in a picture of the error message which we did. Checked the van was driving okay and was told that it was due to the wire under the passenger seat to do with the airbag and if we could fix it. We tried but couldn't. Because of Easter and our location it was difficult to get it attended too. I chased the issue up again on 22 April and was advised we would get help. Craig from Craig's auto care came to our site at Esperance and fixed the wiring (it took nearly an hour; so beyond my capability!) He also attended to the door to eliminate the error message and pinging noise that was becoming more frequent and consistent. It was to return every now and then!

Wednesday 30 April error message 'check engine' came on. Rang THL and advised to continue. I rang THL back later to advise that no more error messages and van seemed to be going okay. Advised to continue and that we could get help if needed.

In most cases when contacting THL the different staff tried their best to assist us.

Overall the van wasn't fit for purpose and I suspect would not have been roadworthy if checked. People said we should have taken it back but we had made forward bookings that made that option difficult.

I don't want to be too dramatic but when you spend near on $12,000 for just over 7 weeks I expected more. It didn't derail our trip but it made it much less enjoyable!

Van based on Mercedes Sprinter; very rough handling; was that normal or because of 180,000 plus kilometres? Would suggest that people try alternate vans if that is possible before renting.

As a help for other people, hiring a van, insist on a better handover. The companies appear to be aimed more at young people as in back packers. Nothing wrong with that but maybe could look at a more helpful package for senior citizens.

Poorly prepared vehicle – Our experience with Apollo Campervans, Alice Springs was marred by a poorly prepared vehicle. This seems to be a recurring theme in reviews of this depot. This is not even a specific criticism of Apollo in that all the campervan renters in Alice are managed by one depot and staff. All the companies seem to have been bought under the umbrella of… Read more

one corporation, THL, and I suspect the rationalisation has left this depot understaffed to manage the workload. We rented a 4WD Adventure camper and the lack of preparation became apparent immediately as we looked over the vehicle with fuel and gas not filled up. This was quickly rectified. Other minor but irritating problems took longer to become apparent; cabinet doors and a window falling off their hinges, one of the tyres had tread that was of dubious legality. But the biggest problem was that the fridge was not working and was, in hindsight, was not working when the vehicle was handed over. They either knew that or hadn't checked the fridge. This became apparent on the first evening when we were still in Alice. We returned twice to the depot the next morning and were basically gaslighted into believing that we were the problem. It quickly became apparent over the next 24 hours that we weren’t the problem and there was no cooling to the fridge at all. We rang the THL on-road assistance and, on the first day we tried, there was no reply……a bit worrying if we’d really been in trouble. The next day we got through and after the usual merry-go-round of call centres in the Philippines and subcontinent we got through to the Australian on road help, who advised us to return to the Alice Depot the next day as we weren't too far away. We did this and they agreed on this occasion that there was a problem but that they had no replacement vehicles or spare fridges. They did contact a local fridge repair company who couldn’t do anything till the next day which was going to mean further delays to our holiday so we ended up buying an Eskie from Bunnings with ice (they did reimburse us for this). An Eskie and ice are OK for picnics but really suboptimal for the 35+degree heat of central Australia. We’d expected the heat but not that we wouldn't be able to keep anything cool. We ended up returning the vehicle a day early. They did give us a 15% reimbursement on the rental but the impact on our holiday felt a lot more than 15%. For the reasons above, I can’t advise that renting through any of the other companies would be any better. My advice though would be to assume nothing and check everything on the vehicle before you sign anything and don’t accept anything less than you were promised. Once you’ve left the depot, I didn’t have a strong sense that they saw it as their problem.

Expensive nightmare – We rented a motorhome through Chepa Campa operated by Apollo, we traveled for 22 days and we had a small accident resulting in a scratch and 2 small cracks on the side of the fibreglass of the motorhome. wasn’t a very deep scratch and crack and it should cost between $300 and $1000, which for us was fair enough. For our surprise, after chasing them for 1 week, they reply back charging an outrageous $5500 for the damage (pretty much the exact amount we pay for the bond, funny, no?) We got another quote of $780 for the exact same job, also we sent the pictures to several repair companies and they were all chocked with this quote. Apollo simply ignored us, since we had paid the $5000 bond in a debit card, and they already had our money. Again, we were happy to pay for the damage, but for a fair price. They also input some engine check and a bunch of things just to get our money. We really thought they were a genuine company but they are totally untrustworthy. We sent the $780 quote, which they obviously didn’t reply as well. Thanks Apollo/Chepa Campa to make our holidays become a nightmare, and a very expensive one.

Bald tyres and broken awning and non working TV – Complaint about @Apollo Motorhome customer service: It has been 4 weeks since I returned from Tasmania having hired an Apollo Deluxe 4/6 birth Motorhome from Hobart Airport for 22 days, costing a significant amount of dollars. The front passenger side tyre had significant wear on the tyre that it was deemed illegal from Beaurepaires. I sent THL… Read more

road support photos of the two front tyres and they asked for us to get them replaced ASAP. We were lucky that we had not had any rain up until then.

We also had no working awning due to parts missing and no working TV in this top of the range Apollo Motorhome.

All three issues were raised with the Hobart manager, Michael, when we returned the vehicle, and I asked for a partial refund to compensate for the poor standard of the vehicle which impacted our hire and required us to backtrack for tyre replacements, but Michael said it was above his level of responsibility.

I was told that Joanne from customer service would call me within the week. I have since tried to contact the customer care team to no avail.

Warning: please do your due diligences when hiring from Apollo Motorhomes. Check that everything is working before departure, because once they have your money all type of customer service dries up.

Shame on you Apollo Motorhomes for hiring out a non roadworthy vehicle which could have resulted in catastrophic injuries to ourselves or other road users on the winding roads of the wild east coast.

I hope Apollo Motorhome staff read this review and reach out.

Do not buy from this company – I have not been able to use my oven for 3 years because Apollo are just not interested in their customers after sales. I have never been so unhappy since I dealt with Apollo, they just want you to go away. Other issues have taken 2 years to be fixed

Generally ok but motorhome not weatherproof – Customer service at the centre during pickup was ok. Vehicle was mechanically sound, no apparent issue with the engine nor transmission. No hidden charges. However, During one rainy night, one of the roof hatches leaked water directly over one of the beds. The hatch was already closed off (could not be opened in the first place, felt jammed… Read more

somewhere). Rang their 24 hr hotline whose customer service person insisted they could only provide steps to troubleshoot leakage through side windows. They said they could not help at all. We have to figure it out ourselves or maybe find alternative accommodation and all the hassles that entails. The person on the phone claimed they have noted this in my file and someone from head office will ring me in the morning. No one did and when i returned the motorhome, the person handling the return did not have such notes/claims on file. I told them about the leak and that person didn’t even flinch and just said someone will look at it for future rentals.

Safe to say I won’t rent from them anymore.

Dirty dangerous and they knew – In short, The wife spent first day of 3 week hire from Brisbane to Perth cleaning the inside. I was at Bunnings buying a new gas hose to replace dangerous one in van ( totally worn and kinked) Awning pole was broken and we found out why later. The awning came away from the van while traveling, when we inspected the awning the two holding screws… Read more

were broken and the awning itself was so badly twisted as to be unusable. The fridge was full of ice as the door would close properly so unusable that the first day. The battery was flat so unusable until it was charged. The biggest let down of all was when these things were reported I was told because the turnaround is so short they do not have time to check things properly. SO SOME OTHER POOR SOD IS GOING TO GET THIS VAN NEXT.

The worst campervan hire i have ever experienced – Had to wait over 40 mins to get the keys to the vehicle at the Perth office Upon getting the keys, i luckily checked the items in the vehicle as there were no pillows provided and only 1 towel provided. Staff were extremely grumpy and rolled eyes when i asked for pillows. The paid for hire of chairs and tables were all broken and torn. The van we… Read more

received wasn't the van we booked and was a 4 seater so there was less room available for 2 persons. Wrong instructions for bed - did not match vehicle type Bed latch doesn’t lock in and no key provided so the bed kept sliding Fridge door seal broken and latch broken making fridge door open all the time and food not cold. We had to jam stuff against it and buy ice to keep our food cold. We also stayed at a paid site and fully charged the battery but it still didn’t work. Flint broken on stovetop and only 3 matches were provided Gas bottle was only half full and close to expiry date which is dangerous Gas bottle seized and was not usable for many days. It seized open and gas and was leaking. We went to BCF and they advised us we cannot legally change the gas bottle ourselves. We had to go to a gas fitter to get help and pay him cash on the day. I requested help on this matter multiple times through the helpline with no call backs and little assistance provided. No tools provided (spanner) which would have helped to release/ close the gas bottle Sink leaks when filled with water when the plug is in. Emergency number did not work on the many many times we tried to call for help. No call back from my help request once I got through, was meant to call me back when he found a gas fitter GPS not up to date and sent us the wrong way many many times as the roads have changed and it was so outdated. Issues with Bluetooth connection not working many many times. I have put it a proper complaint and have not had any response. Do not recommend this company at all. AVOID!

Keep away from them - will not stand by warranty – I purchased a six month old Apollo Windsor Daintree motorhome. It's a beautiful machine and we love it dearly. Alas, it has a terrible squeak and when we went to Apollo to have them look at it under warranty they said they only honour warranties with the first owner. Can you believe it? Gobsmacked. $150k and they walk away from any warranties.… Read more

OMG. I have lodged a complaint with the ACCC and now proceeding to QCAT.

Who would EVER buy an Apollo if they don't give warranty. Unbelievable.

10/10 ! We had an excellent holiday experience as campervan newbies – Read some bad reviews and so had some trepidation in advance as an over-60 campervan newbie, but our experience with Apollo Motorhome Holidays (Tasmania) I can't fault. Excellent vehicle, as new (400km), even better appointed than the original ad (ie. shower included). Excellent quick informative service during pickup and dropoff (I elected to go… Read more

with no extra insurance cover). Fast reimbursement of the $5000 bond ... only 2 days after return, when I was given to expect 'up to 15 working days'. From my expereince, I can confidently recommend the Tasmanian branch of Apollo to future travellers.

Camping in a broken down van – I hired a 2 berth 4WD van for 13 days. It was broken in so many ways that I had to make a list to present after my trip. The auxiliary battery died in less than one day and wouldn’t charge with solar or alternator, resulting in no fridge, water pump or lights for the whole trip. The door would randomly lock and had to be opened with a knife. The… Read more

awning brackets were broken, etc, etc… the service at pickup was nonexistent and my request for partial refund was ignored. The feedback from customer service was that there are no problems with the van, so their technicians are either liars or incompetent. I feel sorry for the next person who hires this van to go bush. It is not fit for purpose, complete rip off.

Never book with Apollo / THL brands ! – Fraud! Worst experience, never again. They took our money for a booking of more than three weeks but wouldn't provide a working RV. Ruined our whole vacation, came all the way to Perth for nothing. About 10.000$AUD damage!!! Knowingly handing out uncleaned vehicles with issues! Tried over five days to fix the problems with them, we brought the… Read more

car back to Perth branch again and again. Main problem beside others: Fridge would just turn itself off and stop cooling, can't leave it unsupervised without risking food going bad. After five lost days spent fulltime trying to save what was left from our vacation, we gave up and eventually returned the RV. Couldn't leave the town with this unreliable thing, it didn't made it through one single night without the error coming up. They won't return any money, saying there is no issue at all among pictures and videos proving otherwise!!! We have endless additional expenses for changing flights, transportation and stays beside the whole cost of the originally booked trip we couldn't even start. Pure ignorance and carelessness from high management [Name Removed] and [Name Removed]. Offering nothing but a videoclip on how to operate the fridge right. NOT A USER ERROR WHEN FRIDGE TURNES ITSELF OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!! Would never again book with any of the brands, have in mind that it is just one company behind all the brands maui, britz, mighty, apollo, cheapa and hippie campers. Two big companies thl and apollo just merged, they have all the same management and maintenance but with different stickers on the vehicles! Better go check out cruisin or star RVs!! Imagine yourself saving up and making room for one month travelling, all planned and booked long before but then finding yourself loosing both, time and money, for absolutely nothing. Not leaving for your trip but having them tell you "there is no issue with the RV, you just decided not to go anymore".
