2018 499 bunk Amazing van for size
Amazing value for money, easy to tow light weight.
It offers so much for the $$
the van looks very nice with large windows, new 2018 decals look nice.
Avan Nowra & Penrith, Anthony a really genuine sales guy.
Mark & Di @ Penrith very helpful.
We love our Avan Aspire 499 bunk.
Nead more practical engineering for electrical!
Haven't been in bad weather. Had an electrical fuse blow, and to replace it was extremely difficult because fuse holder WAS located under the front part of the bed! Have since relocated fuse holder out from under bed to out side face of forward bed frame. Fill tube on Thetford head not friendly to operate. Thetford head water pump 10 amp fuse in cassette compartment hard to get at to replace. Bed difficult to make up, but very comfortable.
Flooring plywood had wood void in traffic area between bed and hand basin causing 12" diameter 1/4" de...

My van has just done almost 10000klm around SA and NT. Back in NSW and cannot fault the van.
Going back to Avan for service and could not wish for better service from the dealer or for a better van ,great to tow and very comfy.

ASPIRE499 with Bunks and double bed
The finish and quality was as good as any others.
The van is reliable and only problem was loose wire on water guage which Avan fixed without any hassles. This van is the most comfortable I have owned and I did own an earlier Avan plus a couple of Jaycos which were good but not as good as this one.
Towing is hassle free and follows me a dream.
After 3 years finding it a great van.
Nice van, easy to tow. Has rear double bed could do with a little bigger but very comfy if have the inner spring and not the foam. Kitchen consisting of gas cook top, microwave oven, deep bowl sink, 12v range hood with light and 3 way fridge. Rear combination shower/toilet with separate vanity not a problem very compact. It has reverse cycle air-con. Would recommend.
Ordered new Aspire 402 in June 2016 delivered LATE November 2016. Full of faults as listed below.
1/ parking brake not adjusted at all
2/ drivers side rear clearance light faulty on pickup, needed replacement
3/ ac remote cable hanging 150 mm below chassis
4/ large drawer under cook top rocks laterally 20-30 mm as it is opened
5/ grooves cut into fascia under said drawer to allow for drawer slides
6/ 30 % of screws used in internal fit out were either loose or had stripped screw holes
7/ bed lifting handle had screws protruding through ...
Great little van
To find a little van with double bunks a double bed and shower and toilet was a big challenge with out going to a 20 ft or bigger van. This little van has it all, we just love it. Great to tow good clearance every thing we need for our weekends away. Like another person said they are not a $70 k van so don't expect a penthouse on wheels, but we love it and have had no problems.Hard to find a van with all this brand new for under $40 k with a 5 yr front to back warranty.
Brought it second hand from a dealer who said it was fully serviced!!!! Not enough or poor quality wheel bearing grease had to replace all bearing due to overheating, Grey water floods shower recess. Low internal water pressure unless you use the pump as well. water leaking from under sink, clip hadn't been tightened. Support leg on awning won't hold up have to use a wooden dowel. .Flyscreen and shade cords broken on front window. Lucky i'm a retired fitter and have fixed it myself, didn't have much pleasure from the dealers. So just be warned the if you buy one second hand this is what you can expect...
Perfect for us.
Bought out 499 in 2013. Not the perfect layout for us but what its got, its weight and especially the price was perfect for us. She tows well and havent had any problems. We love it.
Very happy with aspire 499. Great after sale service by AW RV World
Bought an aspire 499, very happy with it. Nice and light and tows like a dream but most of all it was affordable. We use it to visit family who live in Vic and Wa and just sit it on their front lawn. Also use it for a few weekend trips here and there. We bought it through aw rv world and have nothing but positive things to say about them. We will be looking to getting a new van hopefully soon with an island bed and separate shower toilet, I like the avan frances.
Ohhhh not again
After waiting 6 months for our Aspire 402 hardtop we have had a continual stream of faults wheel tubs rubbed through on our first trip TV antenna wasn't connected, we eventually had to get a digital one so we could get vertical signals, flyscreen were very tight resulting in buttons snapping off and were replaced, cupboard doors wouldn't close, all the cupboards came away from the walls, the aircon stopped working, both taps were faulty, there was a hole in the floor under the bed, the beds collapsed had to be refitted, the microwave cupboard c...ame away from the wall. We had to replace all the screws in the cupboard doors and draws, window hinges had to be replaced, front boot leaks had to replace the gas struts, the rubber strip on the back had to be reglued, the flywire/blind on the top hatch has torn, we had to replace flywire door also had to put a hook on it so it would stay open, the cords have come loose on the front flyscreen/blind we just have to keep getting it fixed our dealer rv world at wodonga has been very good! But it's costing us a fortune!! Don't buy an Avan...
Few issues with Avan 499 Aspire
Had exactly the same issue when i picked up my Aspire back in 2013.They only had half the camp room ended up being nearly 4 months by the time i received the the missing parts.
Few issues with Avan 499 Aspire
Fly screen (door drops off runner.)Poptop material comes away from top liner in places.Sink flows into shower base (remedy was to cut drain and have seperate flow for shower and sink). Shower exhaust fan cover stuck to rubber seal. Not happy. Not much or little response from A-Van about these issues.
After researching far and wide, I purchased a second hand Avan Aspire 499 HT. Great little van, compact, easy to tow, tows like a dream. Van was 4 years old and had been used as an on site van, lived in 24/7. Everything still works with minimal sign of wear all AOK. Minor issues related to under floor wiring and plumbing (in my fastidious opinion) were easily fixed by me as I am a tradesman. Great little van and would recommend it to all but the wingers who want a $75k van in a van that costs $37k. Dec 2017 Update. I have since looked at other vans plumbing and wiring and they are generally installed in the same manner as in the Avan. The van is still keeping us very happy.
its ok , I'm a bit of a handy man .
Pick up 499 pop top in Jan 2014. Read all the complaints that go back3years or so and you guessed it nothing has been done to fix the problems. water from sink floods toilet floor, roof sags on back corner, stairwell light not working , the van it's self is a little to low, you have to be a body builder to raise the roof , I put a baggage door road side to give access under bed , drop down table and rear poll carriers,
Nice Caravan, 499 HT Aspire
Great van I love it, the wife has some reservations, easy to tow with an older 80 series Landcruiser and a petrol Hilux.
Because it's an easy van to tow and park and we live in southern Western Australia, our children live in Victoria and Perth so we use it as our personal space when we visit them. It also is used anytime we head off on weekends away.
We bought it 2nd hand Jan 2015 , the boot had leaked and destroyed the Camp room, we are getting new walls made up to fit, however the Prostor wind out awning works very well and we are happy w...
I had enough problem with my aspire 499 that I fully agree with you. I am at the stage where I don't get any pleasure what so ever out of it. Also as some one else suggested on another review, head office didn't acknowledge our initial concerns what so ever, which were considerable. I also would agree the designs are good just poor quality issue still having problems with considerable water leaked in front window And boot and other issues. Would I have another one, no
We purchased our 499ht in 2013 and have traveled over 16000km to Darwin the west coast Perth and back to Victoria. All that time we have had no trouble. We did make a few minor alterations such as under sling the axel because we found the clearance between the top of the tyres and the wheel arch was very small when legal load is carried.
We did also experience water ingress in front window but this can be fixed very simply by adjusting the cam setting on the window latches. With the bed up against the wall making it is a pain. But if you can put up with a small van then I would say it is for price the best value for money available on the market today. Happy caravaning!
We love it
We bought an A-Van Aspire 499 HT through A-Van Brisbane, at the Brisbane Caravan Show in late 2012, we live in Townsville North Queensland which is 1368 km away by road for those who think it is just outside Brisbane. (Don't laugh some people are that geographically challenged). We didn't pick it up until June 2013, so we have had it now nearly 12 months.
The design & weight & price were perfect for us, it had most of the features we wanted, built in battery & charger, shower & toilet, awning & outside table fitted to the side of the van
Value for money Avan Aspire HT 499
We not long ago bought the Avan Aspire HT 499 with adventure pack. We love the van and the budget was right for us. General speaking from my experience you always get what you pay for! The AVAN for us is exactly what we wanted, covered all the bases without the too hefty price tag. I believe that when purchasing a caravan of any brand you have to consider how far away you local dealer is and look at the review of your local dealer, as to how they deal with warranty issues!
With the Aspire, we have found that the toilet stopped working, afte...r researching the Thetford toilet has a 3amp fuse hidden inside after removing the cassette, however this fuse was OK, there was also a 3amp fuse under the bed which had blown, which also runs a few of the lights! After replacing that one with a 5amp fuse have had no probelms! Also minor design fault, that the door to the van if leaving open and clipped back on the van, does not allow the window above the sink to be opened ( does not worry us too much), and also covers the two vents for the airflow for the fridge! ( once when we were using LPG for the fridge and had the door open all day, it appeared to heat up a bit, but we just closed the door and the temperature around the fridge enclosure reduced fine! Lastly the Adventure pack towball height was mounted to the bottom of the drawbar, which for me with a lifted Prado, was way too low. I have purchase 40mm thick steel billet, drilled holes, fitted longer bolts to raise a bit for my vehicle, if you owned a normal sedan the height is probably OK but if you have a remotely high towball mount you will probably need to raise also! With Avan, we are really happy, Compact, light weight, VAN! I would recommend having that desire to fix minor things yourself if buying an AVAN, ( being a tinkerer like me). We love it exactly what we wanted! Inexpensive new Van, Minor things may need attention
Questions & Answers
Hi, we wanted to get a second water tank, but have been told that we can't because of weight issues on the axle. Can anyone tell me if this is correct.
It should be OK but remember Avan are not generous with payload allowance so you would have to watch your ATM. You know, you would get more answers to this question and many more if asked on the Facebook Avan User group
Assuming that you have one 95 L tank (95kg) and want to add another 95 L this would make up 190 kg of your 300kg allowance for a single axle. This leaves you with 110kg for the rest of everything else you want to pack in your caravan. We found this impossible to do. After my experience of my Avan I would suggest that you are already past your ATM. To stay legal I would pay some money and have it professionally weighed or you could find yourself uninsured. There is a chance that you could end up with a unworkable caravan. Good luck.
Hi everyone, have just ordered a hardtop 499 aspire double. Not sure whether to get underslung axle for more clearance height or if people are happy with the overslung axle height? Pros for underslung is more clearance. Cons, higher centre of gravity. Tow vehicle is 100 series cruiser (no lift)
is there a water indicator?
Is it for the hot water tank or the normal water tank /
