So far so good! – I’ve only had the Zero+ 360 5-Stage Smart Air Purifier for a month. My living space is open plan so it detects whenever I’m cooking. It also picks up cooking odours from downstairs (a self contained studio). It’s early days but I’m pretty impressed so far. The app also indicates air quality throughout the day while I’m out. I wanted this model… Read more
because it has an extra filter for pet dander that gets replaced monthly. I’ll soon see how that goes when I change the pet filter.
Trustworthy – Very good product reliable and worthwhile investment for clean air. It’s quiet, energy-efficient, and very effective at filtering allergens, odors, and pollutants with its HEPA and PlasmaWave technologies. Totally recommend!!.

This Winix 360 is the best filter for pet owners – BLOWN AWAY. I live in the country so you would assume I have clean air. But the layout of my house means that the airflow is stagnant and doesnt clear out. Which is fine, but it means that odours and dust do linger and dont go away. I got two pigeons as pets and one of them prefers to stay indoors. So it prompted me to look for a good purifier… Read more
as they are (to no fault of their own) dusty birds. Its the particles that you dont see that come out of their fur which I wanted to avoid. Beautiful babies that I like to keep indoors when the weather is bad.
This Winix air purifier within minutes made my entire open plan living area (lounge, study, kitchen) incredibly breatheable and the clean air makes me feel more alert and energetic.
Its LITERALLY like night and day. Its quiet and so clean and the odors from when I cook in the kitchen are GONE. The color goes red when you cook and it gets busy clearing the odors away. I dont feel paranoid about pet fur etc Its so big but quiet and so affordable.
I had a breville air filter before which did absolutely nothing. And the price tag was huge when I got it. But I really wanted to explore other purifiers as my in-laws have them and it makes a difference when you get the right one.
I trust Korean brands and engineering for their quality and honesty in testing so I chose the Winix.
I am SOOO happy and wish to repurchase for family. I have more energy and less tired due to clean air which is great because I work from home some of the time. even my husband who was groaning that I keep spending money and was skeptical he admitted it made a huge difference.
Now I can hang out with my baby birds around the house with no worries at all. Everyone is so happy I just keep running it in the background and it does the job incredibly well
Thanks !!

Improved allergy symptoms! – I have been loving my winix air purifier, I especially love how lightweight it is so I can easily move it from my lounge to my bedroom at night. I have been using it every night and I have definitely noticed a difference in my allergy symptoms since using it.
Best air purifier I have ever had – I put it in my bedroom and I can feel the difference straightway. Very quiet unit and It is so convenient to be able to track the air quality etc. I have a cat at home who sheds a lot of hair so I love the pet filter that can help filter the hairs in the air. 100% recommended. A breath of fresh air - literally! – I am so happy with the Winix with PlasmaWave technology. The system is compact but can do a room 10mx10m. I took mine to my home office which is by a massive diesel generator - I keep my window closed so there is low ventilation other than air-conditioning from another room. When I first started the screen was in the red - which means really low… Read more
air quality - yuck! To think I had been breathing that most of the day. I wish I took a photo of it in the red, overnight I had it working and the next day it was in the blue. One night! The air quality improved so significantly. I started off using this at home overnight, I really like how you can turn off the display or fade the lights with the light setting. It is quiet, I couldn't hear it at all. The manual recommends using the air purifier away from wall for the best outcome, but I found it worked really well by the wall. There is an app and you can track progress overtime which I love the idea of but as a working mama of toddlers, I didn't get around to downloading yet. The display is all touch screen, very smart looking and does the job. Overall, I am so happy with this that I am looking to get another. 5 stars for Winix

Disappointing display – The WiFi on this can only be used with 2.4GHZ. The options for operating this unit do not light up at all. Unlike another brand you can't get these options to light up briefly so you can see the option you want. You have to shine a flashlight on it,… Read more
which is very awkward. The filter may be great quality but the control options display was not given much thought in the design process.
Follow-up · The app control is okay. It does purify well, especially when cooking odours are lingering. Noise wise it performs well unless you turn it up fully. I do like that you can dim the lights right down to not interfere with sleep.

Whisper quiet but a beast – Winix Zero 360 5 Stage Air Purifier Pros: • Lightweight and easy to move from room to room • Easy to use, control panel is intuitive and simple • Oh so quiet, really do not even hear it • Gives read out of air particles present • Great phone connectivity Cons: • Had a little trouble connecting the phone but got there As a disclaimer, I was given… Read more
this unit to review as part of the Ambassador program. That being said, I am giving an honest review of my opinions of the Winix Zero 360 Air Purifier. Firstly, it is a relatively small unit and is super quiet. It is obviously well built and good quality. After using in my bedroom for a week, I am certain I slept better, waking up less during the night. I suffer from bronchiectasis so dust in particular aggravates my condition and makes it difficult to breathe. The control panel is very easy to navigate and I like the air particle read out. This is surrounded by a lit coloured ring, to denote the quality of the air, red obviously being bad. I found the phone connectivity a little difficult, but once I got it going it has worked fine since. I can control the unit from bed or remotely put it on 30 minutes before entering the room etc. I do some DIY around the house, and this unit is easily carried into my shed or from room to room. It is very light, and if you are caravning etc, easy to take with you. I noticed that literally any activity in the shed such as cutting wood, spray painting small parts (with a can, not professional unit) is quickly noticed by the unit and the display shows the particle level. I have professional dust extraction, but wanted to validate that the unit really picked up on the dust and chemicals in the air, and it did extremely quickly. It immediately started to filter the air and you could see the particle count reducing before your eyes.I am not suggesting the unit should be used for such purposes and only did so for validation. Whilst I do not suffer from hay fever, I think this would also be excellent for anyone suffering from it. The speed with which the particle levels are reduced is extremely impressive. The purifier comes with a standard filter and a pet hair filter, the latter sits over the standard filter. The filters were very easy to install. The standard filter should be changed once a year, and I guess the pet filter depends on type, number of animals etc. In conclusion, super impressed and would definitely buy myself and recommend to others.
Punches above its weight. Best used with the Winix smart app rather than solely by the operating panel – Full disclosure, I was offered this unit by Product Review in order to use it and provide a review. I believe my review has not been impacted by this review program. filter to help keep my living room fresh.
The Winix unit is a little smaller and moves a little less air than my existing unit, but as far as my nose could tell, it did just as good a job, and based on my ears, it did it a lot quieter. Both units were tested side by side and the air quality indicators were showing virtually identical values. Both units offer similar particle size filtering and ionising of the air, however Winix says this is to zap pathogens, while the other says it’s to promote harmony or some other kind of woo-woo, so this is actually a great side by side comparison opportunity.
I like the 360degree air intake and the vertical air outlet, which I think gives the unit an improved efficiency and quietness. I calculate there is a greater surface area offered by the Winix filter compared to my existing unit, which given the Winix’s smaller footprint, is why I think it works more efficiently and effectively. Also, aesthetically, I think it is more suited to a domestic environment whereas my existing filter looks utilitarian in comparison. The simple automation and variety of information offered by the Winix smart app is a bonus and it makes the app somewhat essential (see below), but I have to admit I did stumble during setup due to some ambiguous wording, however once past that it’s a piece of cake to use. I don’t use Alexa or similar so can’t comment on its integration with that aspect of home automation.
With the existing unit, I could never get the recommended app to work, so every morning I’d hit the manual controls to run to unit for X hrs at a certain speed. Whereas this was fully automated by the Winix smart app using the scheduling function. The unit turns on automatically in the morning, it runs for most of the day (during which the dogs would be active), and it then kicks back down into auto monitor mode around mid afternoon (which is a super quiet running mode only ramping up if it detects an air quality incident like burnt toast or kicking up the dust - tested!)
The filters are somewhat pricey at first glance, however I worked out that at one a year it was comparable to what I’d be paying for the existing unit’s filters at their recommended replacement schedule, and whilst I haven’t done so yet, you can join the Winix filter replacement program for a small discount. Fitting the filter was mostly straightforward, but best done while unplugged so as not to trigger any control options.
What I didn’t like about the unit is that the control panel is not fully backlit. Only some aspects of the panel are backlit. This can make it difficult to manually operate the filter at the best of times, but particularly difficult in the dark. For the want of a slight improvement in the design of the panel and some LED’s, this to me is a major miss. The panel buttons are touch sensitive but not very well delineated. Why oh why skimp on the backlighting??? If you were to attempt to exclusively run the air filter manually, I think you’d end up very frustrated by this short coming.
I also figure that a slight tilt in the exit air vanes would give the filtered air a little spirality potentially helping disperse the air a little further thus promoting a wider field of recirculation - this is just a hunch, but it is such a minor tweak in the design, it surprised me that what appeared to be vanes were actually fixed in a vertical direction.
On balance, it’s a perfectly capable and relatively aesthetic looking air filter offering a lot for the price point. I’m definitely allocating my existing air filter to rumpus room duty from here on and promoting the Winix to living room service.

experience stars change.
Pros: 1. Five-Stage Filtration System: This thing is like the bouncer of the air world. It’s got pre-filters, carbon filters, HEPA filters, and even PlasmaWave technology (sounds impressive, more further down). Basically, if there’s anything in your air that doesn’t belong, it’s getting tossed out by this purifier’s air-quality workhorse.
2. 360° Air Intake: Ever been paranoid that dust is sneaking in from behind? Fear no more! The Winix 360 system inhales from every angle like it’s in an air-sucking competition. Nothing gets past this thing—not pollen, pet fluff. I'm super impressed that it removes those annoying smells, that fishy odour you get from freshly cooked salmon, or that eggy stink from eggs, that meaty smell from the bacon fat, plus that failed popcorn, burnt smell. Time to put the essential oil diffuser away which we used to mask the smells and use this unit to remove smells. Be gone smells.
Also utilising the PlasmaWave technology. Sounds like a intense Sci-Fi weapon and makes you wonder if it’s going to open a portal to another universe. it’s actually just part of the air-cleaning process, breaking down odors and chemical vapors, which you can tell.
3. Whisper-Quiet Operation: We like how you’ll forget it’s even there. I had to double-check that it was working. It’s still working hard while barely making a sound. You could have a full symphony of allergies going on, and it’ll be quietly fixing it in the background.
4. Auto Mode: Set and forget that your air purifier is acting like a personal assistant who’s always watching out for your health. The Auto Mode adjusts itself based on the air quality—like the air equivalent of a mood ring, but useful especially in heavy foot traffic areas.
Cons: Still reviewing unit and now Winix app usage, nil to date.
Final Thoughts: The Winix Zero+ 360 5-Stage WXAP800 is like the air purifier that could be your ah-yah Ninja, cleaning your air with Ninja style precision, all while looking sleek, modern and not obvious making the air you breathe cleaner
To date, I'm considering one for our bedroom as our gifted version is in a centralised area, where there's lots of foot traffic.

Big unit! Quick to react to air quality changes. Good sleep mode – When I received the unit my first impression was that it was much bigger than I was expecting. Therefore it may be a struggle for someone living in a small apartment to have space for, however the physical size of it does point to the fact that this is a serious unit capable of pulling in a lot of nasty air pollutants. The set up process: Whilst… Read more
I am rather technologically capable, I still struggled to get the device to connect to my network despite following the instructions carefully. I spent an hour unboxing, reading instructions and familiarising myself with the buttons and features of the device. I then spent another hour alone attempting to get the device connected to my wifi after downloading the Winix App. After the initial struggle and repeating the process numerous times, I eventually got connected.
I cycled through some settings, where I noted that the turbo fan speed is incredibly fast and noisy but obviously draws in a lot. With the device in my large rumpus room, I set it to auto mode where I left it to do its magic. I left it here for a couple of days and checked in now and again to find the air quality was maintained at good.
After a few days I relocated it to my bedroom where it would stay. This room is used more and is in the centre of the house. When I began using it here, I noticed a difference in the air quality, now labelled as fair. I opened my window and left the device to run on auto. After some time, maybe a few hours I came back to see that the air quality had improved a lot and was now good to very good.
I love that the Winix is quick to react to changes in air quality. One time I noticed the fan speed pick up dramatically and checked to see that the air quality had dropped. I had my window slightly ajar and when I went outside I noticed the smell of smoke in the air from a neighbour burning off. A common observation I made was that often while cooking dinner on the gas stove the air quality would drop and the fan would pick up speed. One night, the Salmon for dinner burnt, creating a fair bit of smoke. The Winix immediately sensed this. The indicator ring turned red and the air quality dropped to poor. I also noticed that when anyone sprays aerosol deodorant in the same or nearby rooms, the Winix rapidly reacts in the same manner.
Prior to using the Winix, I would often wake up with a blocked nose. I was hopeful that maybe this would mean I would be waking up with clear airways although I still found my nose to be blocked and haven’t noticed a significant difference respiratory wise.
One thing I love best about the Winix is its sleep mode. I have a number of other household devices that I cannot run at night due to the noise and me being a light sleeper. I am pleased to say the sleep mode is incredibly quiet and I had no trouble sleeping with it on. Whilst I don’t physically feel any better or worse having used the Winix for a month now, I am happy to say that I will continue using it and my mind is at rest knowing the air quality is being monitored.

This unit was given to us as through the product review ambassador program, we did not pay for it. We also did not ask to be on the program, they selected us from our popular unbiased reviews, and the same review format is used for products we buy ourselves and also those we are offered for review. Huge potential – Hi folks, I am reviewing the WINIX ZERO 360 5- Stage Air Purifier. 12/12/24 As previously promised at the end of this review, I'm doing an update of my experience with this appliance. After an unseasonal and unprecedented 160 mm. of rain over the last month in our area, everything is still green and although we have had some very strong winds,… Read more
it always been accompanied by heavy rain so no hot dry wind to blow dust, grass spores and other air contaminants about. Things will change and when they do, I'll do a further update. In the meantime, if you are thinking of buying an air purifier, I don't think you'll be disappointed by the Winix. A friend of mine has had one for quite a while, and loves it.
This is the most thought provoking review I have ever done on behalf of ProductReview.com.au as I feel it is very subjective. By that, I mean how it performs will depend very much on where you place it.
We live on the edge of town in an elevated rural area surrounded by bush and farm land. Due to our elevation, we get a lot of wind. By mid December it’s usually very dry, hot and dusty. There is also a quarry about 2 km’s away which adds significantly to the dust problem. The seasonal change just ahead of us, is when I expect to get the most benefit from the Winix Zero 360. Therefore, as a long time asthma and hay fever sufferer, this review is a bit premature because in our current environment things are still very green with maximum temperatures in the low 20’s. The asthma storm and hay fever season is typically later in the year when the heat combines with humidity, the grass has dried out and we get gusty winds and occasional thunderstorms. Because of this, I commit to revisiting this review later in the year and updating it with fresh additional information about the Winix Zero 360. Upon unpacking the unit, I was delighted to see that the manufacturer had used recycled cardboard as the protection from impact and not polystyrene, that's very responsible.
My initial challenge was to decide the correct placement for it. When you think about it, to maximize the efficiency of any air purifier it should have access to the maximum amount of air in the room. Logically, you might want to place it in the middle of the room but for most of us, this would be very impractical as it requires a power point, and nobody wants a lead running across the floor. There are other restrictions such as keeping it away from heat or steam generating appliances and also other electronic devices. The Use & Care Guide stipulates that it should have it’s own dedicated power point (dot point 10 on page 2.) but in a room full of appliances, I found this impossible to achieve. We also rely on a wood heater for warmth so it can’t be placed near that either. I called the importers of the Winix who are CBD Goldair Australia for clarification and asked why they had imposed this limitation. Their response was that this stipulation is to try to prevent those people who in ignorance are happy to use one 240 volt double adapter upon another one, and then plug in an extra appliance thus overloading the circuit and possibly cause a fire in their home. And so, in reality it’s ok to share the Winix with the same power point as your TV, kettle, coffee machine etc., just not all of them!
Unfortunately, we had just stopped using our heater by the time I did this review, so it will be very interesting to see what happens next winter as I feel the wood heater is a big air pollutant in our house. An interesting observation for me was that the sensor is at the rear of the unit. I wondered why it has been designed this way as I thought that in order to “read the room” it should be facing outwards. But having said that, we have a table fan branded Vornado which has a uniquely styled front grill. The Winix has something very similar and if you look down from the top you can see that there are angled louvers about 70 mm. from the top grill (see photo). This design is a very effective way of moving the air around the room. With our fan, you can feel waves of air wafting over you at regular intervals indicating the air is being well circulated, so it may not matter at all where the Winix sensor is located on it’s body.
I decided to place the unit in the kitchen / living room where we spend about 25 % of our time, because we are outdoors a lot especially at this lovely time of the year. We spend very little time in our lounge room so there was no point placing it there. It was tempting to place it in the bedroom and have lovely clean air to breathe, but it would be subjected to a disproportionate amount of fluff from bed clothes, carpet and garments, and we couldn’t observe it’s performance if we are asleep. I will move it there however when the weather gets hot as we need to have the window partially open for our evaporative air conditioning. This exposes me to the dust and everything else carried by the winds which will be a big test for the unit. Speaking of sleep, I feel there is insufficient explanation in the User Guide as to what happens when the unit goes into sleep mode, apart from the fact that it is activated by a lack of ambient light. If you are sitting in a dimly lit room enjoying the company of your partner it effectively goes off. I understand why they have incorporated this feature, it’s a convenience so if you forget to turn it off when going to bed, it doesn’t run all night. When it goes into sleep mode, the fan still operates but at a very low speed so it draws in only a minute amount of air to filter. This does not take into account those hot windy nights I have mentioned though. Fortunately, you can over ride the sleep mode by simply pressing the fan speed button to your desired level. Speaking of dimly lit, the whole control panel needs to be illuminated and not just the center readout. It’s difficult finding the control buttons you want in a low light situation. So to date, the unit has been operating on automatic (the default) and showing mostly a blue LED meaning our living room has very good clean air at the moment.
Suggested areas for improvement are: Have a fully lit control panel, and the sensor door was impossible to open with my finger (as suggested in the manual) so I had to use a screwdriver. This needs looking into. A small point is that the blue circle indicates the best quality air, but to me it would have been more conventional to have this condition shown by green…..green for good works for me. Apart from these issues, I think this is an excellent purifier mainly because it is so incredibly quiet and a good practical size. It is also very well finished, and I’m super impressed by the fact that it has a HEPA filter because that’s as good as it gets for air filtration. When you stand slightly over the top of the unit the air coming out feels fresh, cool and very clean. I look forward to receiving more benefit from it as we come into summer, which is why I have left submitting my review as late as possible to try and catch some changes in the weather. We are just now starting to get increased temperatures and hay fever. I will update my review later in the year but based on current performance, it’s five stars from me.

can draw in air in a circumferential manner. The air quality indicator has four colors red, amber, green than blue which signifies good air quality. We use the 'Auto' feature as the preferred setting. Plasma Wave is an interesting feature, the unit releases both positive and negative ions into the air which claims to negate and remove pollutants. We downloaded the user friendly app and it was simple to connect up the purifier. This can be used remotely to monitor your air quality and make any adjustments required e.g fan speed. The 'hospital grade' true Hepa filter is easily accessible to clean or replace when the time comes to do this. All round this product has been an excellent addition to our home environment and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering purchasing a purifier!

from its look, its construction to its display system and actual performance. For the outcome from this device, the air in my bedroom is noticeably cleaner since it now smells neutral (i.e. no smell). There is less dust falling onto horizontal surfaces. I really like and highly recommend this unit. I’m pleased I have it ready to go for the Sydney Bushfire period coming up, I know it will help me out with clearing the air a lot.
The Pros: I jumped at the chance of trying out this unit. I already own a dehumidifier from Ausclimate, which works fantastically well and is so well made and Ausclimate supply this Winix unit. The Zero+ AirPurifier has a very modern look, much more attractive than the other two units I own. The LED display is logical and the 4 status colours are well chosen (Blue = good to Red = bad) so that you easily can see the current status of the air and unit. The setup is very fast, the package includes 12 pet filters which really give the first line of defence against larger particles. They are relatively coarse and wrap around the main filter – a very quick (and fun) step. I’ve attached a photo of the filter pack, including pet filters and installed. Being able to change the pet filters out once a month, gives a “fresh” filter every month for a year. And the pet dander and stray hairs are removed from the house. The actual filter is packaged inside a plastic bag, which keeps it fresh and obviously has to be taken out of the bag to start using the filter. I’m one of those people that opens everything up to see what’s there, so it’s an obvious step to unbag the filter. Noticeable when you first plug the unit in – the power cord is a good length. This sounds trivial but it is annoying when the cord is too short to position an appliance in the right place. It’s easiest to just leave the unit in auto – which is its default on first start. It adjusts the speed to suit the current air quality, so you’ll hear the unit cycle up and down. Pretty satisfying. The unit remembers your last setting when you start it up, even if it’s been switched off at the wall. This seems minor, but it’s a really handy feature. The app that controls the unit is similar to other device apps so the usage is simple to learn. WiFi connection is strong, best to use 2.4 mHz, like most devices. The major benefit of the app is being able to see if it is actually on, without having to open the room. Also, it helps out with the display being less “in your face” – this is covered under the “cons” section. Other users have commented on the display not having backlighting but personally, I like the lights not being overpoweringly bright – I feel that makes it look more sophisticated. It’s actually easy to see in a properly lit room – if not. Use the app. The unit is best described a mid sized – it provides the same flowrate as my much larger unit, but is shorter and narrower. Noise is very low, compared to my other units. This was a surprise, since the spec for the flowrate and hence room size capability is the same as my much larger unit. The sleep setting means that you don’t notice it running in the background – just the faintest hint of white noise, which helps me sleep anyway. Ongoing costs: The power usage is minimal – another review here shows how little electricity it uses. The filters need to be replaced on a schedule, which is probably about 12 months.
The Cons: I’m struggling to find anything wrong. So I'll come up with something trivial. I guess the display could be backlit, so the control status is more obvious. This is only really a problem in very low light, but using the app negates this issue straight away.

Very noticeable improvement in dust and air quality with the Winix Zero+ 360 – As a family household with several small indoor dogs, cleanliness and odours are always of some concern, so it was with great interest we tried out the new 5 Stage Filter unit from WInix. to how practical it would be in permanent use, and how well it would fit in with the decor.
We got used to the unit pretty quickly however, especially after putting it to work in our open plan living room, and before long it was practically invisible to us. Being used to frequently running dust extractors, I know it's pretty hard to keep a high volume of moving air flow quiet, but despite the sheer size of the unit, the Winix was surprisingly quiet in use, and in Sleep Mode at night was of no impact or nuisance whatsoever due to the smart automatic speed regulation, based on the air quality and the operating mode. The top mounted controls are quite simple and make operating it a breeze.
Quite amazingly it didn't take long to see a noticeable improvement by means of a dramatic reduction of airborne dust particles, and the general quality of the air and odours itself, which I must admit was something we'd never really considered or particularly noticed before. We have had an ioniser previously which we did really like as the air felt very fresh and clean, almost like after the rains, but ionisers and their immediate vicinity are difficult to keep clean as by their nature they attract dust. The Winix doesn't give quite the same effect, but is a definite general improvement. I hesitate to say it made a strong difference to our quality of sleep, and while it's objectively hard to determine a measured difference, the wife and I both really feel as though we're breathing a little better at night now.
One aspect we were really hoping for an improvement in though was to help reduce any low-lying dust or fine hair shedding's from our dogs, which would get disturbed and/or ingested when they ran around, often leading to some minor coughs. The Winix didn't disappoint, we found the water bowl stayed cleaner longer, and the dogs definitely were coughing less.
While replacement filter packs are available, the ability to clean/wash the pre-filters as often as you wish I would consider absolutely invaluable, certainly it helps greatly with increasing the longevity of the HEPA filter, and the performance in general.
As with almost everything these days, the unit comes with an app for monitoring and controlling it. After initially dismissing it as a novelty and of possible limited use, we actually found it quite interesting to see the various before and after results of the unit working, and its effect on the environment inside. It was also very useful for ramping up or down to respond to food odours. I've been used to using industrial HEPA based dust extractors for many years now to protect my lungs from air borne dust and carcinogens from machined wood and materials , so I know the value in a quality HEPA filter unit such as this Winix, and the health and lifestyle benefits it brings. That sort of performance does of course also translate to a higher cost, and while the replacement filter unit is somewhat expensive and is supposed to be replaced yearly, I don't think its cost is too onerous given the performance and the sheer size of the filter.
I do get that the replacement filter cost would put many off buying the unit, but if you're mainly using it for keeping the lower levels clearer for pets, the ability to clean the pre-filter is of more concern and benefit in this case, and the main HEPA filter could just be used for far longer, all that will happen is that it will gradually get less effective at filtering out odours, and may possibly start to develop a slight smell depending on the levels of persistent odours.
Down to the nitty gritty, would we recommend buying the Winix Zero+ 360, definitely a resounding yes. If you have small children and/or pets, we felt the benefits are really noticeable, and for our precious small pets who have snouts pretty close to the floor, it's of great benefit for them especially. Exactly how much it improves the environment and the level of benefit I think would be different for others, and given the fairly high cost is something that probably deserves some careful thought.
In short, we would be very happy with it purely for our dogs sakes, the fact it also improves the general air quality as it does, is a bonus. I had to really think about the rating I gave it, while not quite perfect, it certainly performed really well and proved to be of great benefit, so I'd probably give it 4.5 stars out of 5, but of course I can only go 4 or 5 stars, so chose 4 as I felt that was probably a little closer to the mark for me.

It does what is says, and it does it well, I didn't see the need, but I do now! – I received the "Winix ZERO+ 360 5-Stage Air Purifier" as an ambassador review. Quik Update: I moved the unit into a large basement room, that had a musky odour, a bit of damp maybe, the Winix mopped it all up in under a week and now it smells, well, it doesn't smell at all. Can I give it 4.5 stars? I am glad I have it now! I had never owned an… Read more
Air purifier before, although, since Covid was a thing, they appeared like little robots in every meeting room at my place of work and at doctors' waiting rooms, etc, etc
Personally, when attending these rooms, filled with people, moving in and out, it made sense to have a filter, after all, activated Carbon filters do remove odours ( I use them to purify my water from bad taste), HEPA filters under .5 of a microns will remove bacteria, and of course hair and dust from the air.
The specifications of the Winix look good. Pet Filter: A dedicated filter to neutralise pet dander and odours. Fine Mesh Pre-Filter: Captures larger particles, prolonging the life of subsequent filters. Hospital-Grade True HEPA Filter: Renowned for capturing 99.97% of minute particles, as small as 0.3 microns. Activated Carbon Filter: A specialist in removing household odours and volatile organic compounds. PlasmaWave Air Cleaning Technology: A proprietary technology that breaks down pollutants at a molecular level without producing harmful ozone.
Unboxing: When you open the box pay attention to the Yellow warning sticker as the filter is inserted, upside down, in a plastic bag, stuffed with Pet filter mesh! (Note: You won't damage the unit by switching it on before reading the manual, which is something people like to do, hence why I tested that). The pet filter mesh requires manual installation by wrapping it around the HEPA filter and sticking it to itself with one-sided tape. Not the most elegant solution, BUT it does prevent larger particles and hairs from getting stuck in the expensive HEPA filter, and you get 12 of them to use monthly to cover the filter's lifespan. (In my opinion to extend the life span - bonus).
Setting up is relatively easy, use the app to connect to Google Home and you can remotely switch it on, or off. change it from AUTO (preferred mode), or to any of its actual 5 fan speeds. (Note TURBO sounds like a quiet JET). Auto is perfect, as it automatically goes into silent low mode at night (Yes it's almost inaudible in my bedroom) and adjusts in steps to turbo if provoked. (Shake a dusty curtain in front of it, or spray a deodorant nearby!).
The top panel has all of the controls and is simple to use, I like the fact you can adjust and disable all backlighting, (Auto does this for you at night, so I can leave it on), and I like how it changes colour based on dust/odour detection and increases speed as required, Watch my video (Link below).
So, what's not to like? Is it worth having? Did it reduce odours, Yes, not that the room smelled, but if you sprayed or applied something in the room it would detect that, increase speed and clear the odour, which was great!
Does it remove dust etc? Yes, if it sucks it in. The bottom line of any purification system is it can only filter what passes through it, it cannot create enough movement of air to displace dust or other particles from anywhere else in the room. Shake a curtain near it, and it will respond, shake a curtain further away, and it will respond a little, eventually. I cannot test it for airborne viruses, but I expect the result to be the same, Someone coughing out a disease at one side of the room and the Winix on the other will not help. So that's very subjective, if you want an air purifier, I can recommend this unit in a room. Did I perceive any health benefit, no, not in my household. I used it in my bedroom, running day and night and neither my wife nor I noticed any health differences, If the pollen levels were up, we left a window open, and my wife wasn't taking Zyrtec every day would she have noticed a benefit, maybe, maybe not. Could it do enough to stop her from taking medication, not possible, she would have to live with a HEPA filer over her nose, mouth and goggles over her eyes.
Pros: • Efficient air intake and all-so-smooth fan operation. • Very Quiet fan noise at low speeds, does not impede sleep. • Smart air quality sensor adjusts the fan speed automatically. • Automatic or Manual Sleep Mode is perfect for sleeping, lights are also dimmed at night. • Lightweight and easy to move between rooms. • Full app control, eliminating the need for a remote. • Seamless integration with Google Home Assistant for voice control, for example, "Hey Google, set the Air purifier to Auto", or Off, On for 30 minutes, etc. • Scheduling function allows the purifier to run automatically at set times.
Cons: • Size, it's a big toy, as it needs to be! • When air quality is poor, the fan runs at high speed, which can be very loud. However, this decreases once the air quality improves, and it usually doesn't take too long to achieve that improvement. • Replacement filters, especially the HEPA and activated carbon ones, are expensive and must be replaced every 6 to 12 months, increasing cost over time. • Whilst it's very quiet at night, it also runs very slowly, meaning it is not really doing much in the way of purifying air. • Don't rotate the unit while it's sitting you can "unscrew" the base and the filter and lid can fall off when you pick it up.
Maintenance and Filter Replacement:
Regular maintenance is necessary to keep the purifier working efficiently. The pre-filter mesh has to be changed, (every month or so if you have pets), while the HEPA carbon filter requires replacement every 6 to 12 months, depending on usage. The filters aren't cheap, so consider that in your purchase decision.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, the Winix Zero+ 360 5-Stage WXAP800 performs very well and lives up to its promises. It quickly improves air quality within its space, operating quietly for the most part, and offers convenient app-based control and scheduling features. However, I cannot justify the expense of the unit or the high cost of replacement filters. I do not have an issue with the occasional loud noise when running at high fan speeds, as that is when it delivers maximum benefit, although others may want to consider the noise.
Best air purifier – Easy to set up out of the box. The app is easy to use and set up. The unit is extremely sensitive and detects the slightest change. I have left it running 24/7. The air and odours are nearly non existing even in a locked up home with no air flow. The dust is massively reduced. I don't have a pet but used the pet filter and it is amazing how much it traps alone.i would highly recommend this for every home.
Great for anyone with allergies – I’ve always wanted to see if an air purifier would make a noticeable difference and was happy to test this product out. Set up was really simple, I put it together at work and ran it in my office that day. Initially it flagged the air as poor quality but within 20 minutes it was up to a good rating. What I was really hopeful for is if it would… Read more · 1
help with my 6 year old son’s allergies and snoring so took it home and set it up next to his bed. The unit rated the air quality in the good range from the start but I ran it overnight on the low setting not the night mode and we noticed a lowering in his snoring. It has a night mode which is even quieter but on low it is still quiet enough not to disturb his sleep. We have been using the unit every night in this position and setting as we can hear the reduction in his snoring with many nights completely quiet. We have a long haired border collie and the simple pet filter and easy replacement is going to keep the unit functioning well for a long time. It can be used with an app or just via the buttons on the unit. The app is very handy to check if you’ve remembered to turn the unit on and nice to track the air quality. The unit seems very sturdy and well made and it’s quite attractive, looks like a cool cylindrical speaker so blends into the decor very well. It’s not a cheap unit and I was too worried about it not delivering any noticeable effect so I’m really glad I got to trial one as I’m convinced it is improving our air and my son’s sleep health.

Quiet, Energy Efficient and Effective – This is my first air purifier, I haven't purchased one before because I didn't really think they would be effective. We have a cat and dog and my Husband and Daughter both suffer with Hayfever, recently I started to as well, something set me off during this spring in the new place where we live. Our Daughter doesn't live with us any more (comes… Read more
to visit and stays with us sometimes) but both her and Hubby are also affected by the cat particularly when she's shedding (we do feed her special cat biscuits to reduce the allergy effect).
The air purifier comes with very comprehensive instructions which includes both picutres and written instructions. The most important thing is to open the unit and remove the plastic packaging that's around the filter, there is a little yellow slip to draw attention to this which is good because in the instruction booklet it's a bit towards the back and could be missed by those that don't tend to read the booklets. There is also a packet of pet filters included which is an optional extra step and easy to stick to the main filter. It's recommended that each is used for a month with 12 months worth provided.
Downloading the app and connecting to wifi was easy but it did take me a couple of attempts. The app was very simple to set up and is very easy to use. It isn't essential to use the app but I do like being able to control it from anywhere in the house and check what the air quality is etc without going to the unit.
There seemed to be a relatively limited number of locations to select in regards to where you live. So there was no option for the town where I am (but I'm happy enough to select the nearby city as the air quality would be similar). I guess the list must be limited to places where air quality data is available (as it shows the air quality for the location on the app).
I have the white version which wouldn't look too much out of place anywhere in the house. It's light weight and very easy to move around. I have it in the main area during the day and in our bedroom at night (as it's only the two of us in the house at the moment).
The unit works really well, once turned on it doesn't take too long to bring the air quality down to a good level. In auto mode it will reduce fan speed once the quality is adequate and increase speed as necessary. There is also a sleep mode which makes it super quiet in the bedroom. And I should also mention neither our cat or dog have been worried by the sound of the fan from the unit which is great and is an example of how quiet it is (neither pet likes the vacuum cleaner). There is also a turbo mode and wow that's powerful! Definitely would clean up the air fast in any room.
I have noticed the dust readings on the unit do increase if for example there's a lot of traffic in the room...eg walking around in the bedroom, doing things like making the bed etc where dust would get stirred up.
Another thing to note is that in sleep mode it doesn't have all the control panel lights on (showing the dust reading etc), it wouldn't bother me if it still did but this feature is great for those that would be affected by having those lights showing particularly at night in the bedroom.
The only thing I have found could possibly be improved is that the buttons on the control panel can be hard to see particularly in a dark room (my eyesight isn't the best though so others may not have that issue). I've found that I need to turn the light on to see, however I could use the app to get around that. The replacement filter does seem pricey but if replaced yearly equates to about $5 a week. The energy use is rated at 45w which is about as much as a light bulb would use, that's pretty impressive.
My Husband would always wake up having to blow his nose and having to do so often during the day as well as sneezing. Since having the air purifier I've definitely noticed an improvement. And for myself it feels like I'm breathing in cleaner air during the night, not waking up with a stuffy nose either.
Very keen to see if it will help my daughter with her allergies too, it would be worth buying a smaller one for her room where she lives.
The Winix Air Purifier definitely works and works really well, it's also a pleasure to use because it's not noisy or intrusive and if you live in a place with bad air quality or have any allergies or asthma etc I would highly recommend.

Winix Purifier Does the Job Perfectly! – The Winix Zero+ 360 5-Stage WXAP800 is my first dedicated air purifier, as I already own a Dyson fan with a purifier cooler. Over the past three weeks, I’ve tested it in various rooms of my four-bedroom home, including the bedrooms, lounge, and hall. Here’s a detailed review of my experience. the unit arrived in perfect condition without damaging the packaging or the purifier.
Pros: • Seamless delivery. • Well-packaged, ensuring no damage.
Initial Setup Setting up the Winix purifier was quick and straightforward. Within five minutes, I had it running for the first time. The unit is surprisingly lightweight, making it easy to move around the house. It comes with a user manual that makes the process easier. Setting it up through the Android app was a breeze.
Pros: • Easy to set up, taking just 5 minutes. • Lightweight unit, easily portable. • Comes with a user manual for quick reference. • Smooth Android app integration for remote control.
Cons: • The filter comes covered with a plastic bag, which is not mentioned in the manual or marked on the unit. I accidentally ran the unit without removing it, so check this before starting. • The unit is quite large and takes up noticeable room space.
First Use Experience
From the moment I powered it on, the Winix purifier began assessing the air quality in each room and improved it significantly within minutes. The fan runs quietly most of the time, and the smart air quality sensor automatically adjusts the fan speed based on real-time air quality. The Sleep Mode dims the lights and reduces noise for a restful night’s sleep.
One of the standout features is the app control. I no longer need a separate remote; all operations can be managed through the app. Connecting it to Google Assistant was simple, and voice commands worked flawlessly. Scheduling the purifier to turn on or off at specific times is an incredibly convenient feature.
Pros: • Efficient air intake and smooth fan operation. • Quiet fan noise at low speeds. • Smart air quality sensor adjusts the fan speed automatically. • Sleep Mode is for quieter operation, and lights are dimmed at night. • Lightweight and easy to move between rooms. • Full app control, eliminating the need for a remote. • Seamless integration with Google Assistant for voice control. • Scheduling function allows the purifier to run automatically at set times. Cons: • When air quality is poor, the fan runs at high speed, which can be noisy. However, this decreases once the air quality improves. • Replacement filters, especially the HEPA and activated carbon ones, are expensive and must be replaced every 6 to 12 months, increasing cost over time.
Maintenance and Filter Replacement:
Regular maintenance is necessary to keep the purifier working efficiently. The pre-filter must be washed periodically, while the HEPA and carbon filters require replacement every 6 to 12 months, depending on usage. The filters are treated with anti-microbial protection to last longer, but filter costs could still be a consideration, as they aren't cheap.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, the Winix Zero+ 360 5-Stage WXAP800 performs exceptionally well and lives up to its promises. It quickly improves air quality, operates quietly for the most part, and offers convenient app-based control and scheduling features. However, the high cost of replacement filters and the occasional loud noise when running at high fan speeds are worth considering.
If you’re looking for a reliable air purifier that’s easy to use, integrates well with smart home systems, and provides noticeable improvements in air quality, this is a great choice. Just be prepared for the ongoing maintenance costs associated with filter replacements. Alternatively, a fan with a purifier might be a better investment, offering more functionality. For instance, although approximately $300 is more expensive than the Winix, Dyson fans with purifiers provide the dual benefit of cooling and purifying the air.
In the Queanbeyan and Canberra regions, where the pollution levels were relatively low during testing, we couldn’t fully assess the purifier’s performance under harsher conditions.
Breathe easier – After testing the Winix Zero 360 5 – Stage Air Purifier, for just over 3 weeks, my review is as follows: On opening the box, there is a yellow sticker showing how to open the lid to the unit. I find this unnecessary as it should be in the instructions on the first page, and highlighted. Most know how to open a lid, yet, the first two pages are… Read more
dedicated to what should be common sense, but companies feel they have to cover themselves these days. Common sense is not common! I feel the most important instruction should relate to the removal of the plastic bag from the filter before anyone even plugs in the unit. This information is buried on page 11 of the instruction booklet. Plus, in the plastic bag is the instructions to the filter and the cover to be placed on it, it should be on page one with how to open the lid. Maybe, in RED. The PET filter covers are replaced approx. once a month and the unit comes with twelve covers, so a years supply, depending on your environment. They are easy to replace on the main filter. I must admit, I have chronic arthritis and did find the lid was very hard to open. Luckly, my son happened to show up on the same day, so I asked him if he could open it for me. Maybe a redesign to make this a little easier for people like myself. I am not a fan of apps on my phone continually, but it does make it easier to turn on the unit in the semi-dark light and watch the quality of the air we breathe go from very poor to good. I also suffer from asthma, and have noticed I breathe easier and don’t have that asthmatic cough nearly as bad at night or early morning, anymore. I live in a dusty area and have found this unit to be very beneficial for me. I am not saying it’s right for everyone, but it might help! Another redesign that others like myself might appreciate, is small castors on the bottom of the unit, so it’s easier to move from room to room. While the unit is around 8 kgs, at times, this can be a problem for some. Do I like the unit, yes, and would I purchase another when mine doesn’t work anymore, yes.
Very good air purifier – Great Product! and thoroughly recommend anyone with allergies to get one. It is also surprising a stylish and good looking design that would fit into any decor. I first came in contact with air purifiers many years ago in Japan where they are standard equipment in households and hotels. We recently received this unit to test and was pleasantly… Read more
surprised to how well it worked in a house situation as apposed to a small hotel room that is constantly cleaned. We tried the unit in a number of different rooms and could easily see a difference after a few days.
We have minimal carpet, only in bedrooms, 3 level terrace type house and a long hair low shed dog. No fabric curtains and a few rugs on hard floor area. The house is vacuumed, mopped and dusted fortnightly and was just done so 6 hrs or so before turning this unit on!
Combined Living/dining Room 65msqr. Three people have allergies in our house hold and there was a definite alleviation of symptoms relating to dust after a few days. The Winix is always on so filtering throughout the day, when initially started it was quite loud as it was working hard (there is a digi display to advise the level of dust in parts per million) showing a medium to high level of dust. After ten minutes or so it relaxed down to level that was pretty much silent and stayed there, maybe revving up a notch here or there when iut felt necessary. As mentioned above, there was a definite change in allergy symptoms which we can measure in tissue usage over the two weeks where there was practically a full box hardly used and no piles of tissues from snotty tweens! (we usually go through a box every 10 days or so) I do also believe that there was a marked difference in surface dust on furniture after two weeks, I feel it was at least a 50% reduction in my mind.
Upstairs Office area 10m2
This area tends to be one of our worst for dust as its connected to attic roof storage area. As with the above the purifier dug deep for the first 10/15min and then quieten back down to a whisper. We noticed that my wife would usually sneeze a few times a day up there but she had ZERO sneezing from the moment we took it upstairs. Again, for allergies there was a distinct change for the better with the Winix filtering the air.
11yr olds Room, Carpet and where dog likes to sleep. 12m2
As above, the initial turn on has the fan running hard but down to a whisper within a few minutes. Our boy is a sneezer also and frequently sneezes. He felt he sneezed less when spending time in his room on homework or playing on the floor. I also believe his snoring had abated a little, he still has a quiet snore but usually we could hear this with his door pulled almost closed (not fully closed just pulled). These changes were pretty much on the day I moved it into his room. No difference in dog wise, I think as being carpet the hair just attaches rather than blow around on hard floors.
Costs, There are ongoing costs via filter replacement which are considerable at roughly $200AU+or- depending on who and where. Almost half the cost of the unit but with that said the manufacturer states that one filter should last a year so....54c/day is still cheaper than Anti-Histamines and fan uses very little energy to run.
Summary To sum up, these things are fantastic for families with allergies and even for removing lingering cooking smells when you have a combined living/dining/kitchen area. You can see an immediate change (for dust allergies our case) in hay-fever symptoms. I do like the colour coded "air quality" indicator and find it a very useful to quickly see the air quality when in auto mode! Its turns from blue>green>orange>red (good to bad). Also, in a world of rising pandemic possibilities, the fact that this unit will also filter out aerosol type viruses is a HUGE plus. In regards to dogs, I haven't really seen any changes there as our dog is minimal dander and not smelly at all but there is quite a bit of his hair on the outer filter when unit was in living room. I would really like to see a washable version of the filter or at least the HEPA section to reduce filter replacement costs such as with a dyson vacuum (washable hepa filter) and its the reason I have not given a 5 star rating. In this day and age manufactures should be making everything as re-usable as possible. There is an app (of course) to got with it but I find these things gimmicky and would rather just get up and adjust the unit as necessary if needed, it works just perfectly in AUTO mode anyway so I found it it was just a set and forget scenario.
Overall very happy with product and would recommend though would love to see some sort of washable component to the filter system.

Great Air Purifier To Keep The Bugs At Bay – I think Covid gave a lot of us a wake-up call about all the bugs and germs and generally nasty things floating around in the air all conspiring to make us feel tired and sick. When you sit in a room with the sunlight streaming in you can see all the pollen and dust and goodness knows what else suspended in the air and floating around. I live on… Read more
a main road with buses and trucks and their diesel emissions regularly passing by outside my window and am also 200m from the train station. While I don't suffer from any allergies or health issues I do like the idea that while I am asleep at night, the air my lungs are having to work at filtering all these nasties out is in the best condition it could be - just in case.
As a result, I have owned the more basic but still excellent and highly recommended WINIX Compact 4-stage Air Purifier (https://ausclimate.com.au/products/compact-4-stage-air-purifier) for a bit over a year. Previously I would happily have given this model a 5/5 but having tried the newest and more advanced 5-Stage model for a week, I would drop the 4-stage to a 4/5 because there are some things in the new version I really like.
There isnt anything else I would buy or recommend brand wise, but there are some things I love about the newer 360 5-Stage version, and there are 2 significant things I don't like. A unit that combined both these models would be back to a 5/5 and unbeatable in the market.
THINGS I LIKE ABOUT HAVING AN AIR PURIFIER ================================
- Sounds dumb, but I REALLY like the idea of having cleaner air to breathe - especially at night when I am sleeping. I like that my body doesn't have to work as hard to keep things out and keep me healthy. - Its amazing how much dust these things suck in over a month. I use my electric blower to clean them out. Goodness knows what else they are trapping - the dust is just the thing I can see. Very satisfying seeing a big cloud of "stuff" billowing out from the filter when cleaning it. - Family and friends notice the air feels "cleaner". I have some family members with allergies and they don't sneeze or have itchy eyes once inside my home. I live in a regional country town with pollen flying everywhere - sometimes its so thick it looks like it is snowing outside. Goodness knows what its doing to your lungs. - As someone who doesn't suffer from allergies it is hard to know how well air purifiers work. People who do have allergies will tell you that they are a godsend. One thing that does amuse me is that when I spray myself with deodorant in the room - and I'm a fair distance away from where the purifier sits - about 20 seconds later the air purifier fan will kick in on high as it detects something foreign in the air and does its thing - so I do know between this, and the amount of dust that it is filtering out of the air when I go to clean it, its certainly doing something.
THINGS I REALLY LIKE ABOUT THE NEW 360 5-STAGE (THAT I ALSO WISH MY 4 STAGE HAD). ================================
- I like being able to visually see on the unit what my current air quality is. - I do REALLY like that once connected to the app, I can see how the air quality in my house changes over time. - I also like the idea that you can see how the air quality in your house compares to the air quality where you live. (For me my location was not available). - I do like that it has an ambient light sensor and that it dims the lights on top of the unit. - I do like that it is significantly bigger and more powerful. I like the idea that more of the air in the room is turning over and getting filtered out.
THINGS I WISH WERE BETTER IN THE NEW 360 5-STAGE. ================================
- I REALLY don't like that in auto mode once it detects that the light level drops it automatically puts the unit into sleep mode - which pretty much means it is off - fan drops to basically just turning over and the plasmawave functionality turns off. This means that during the night when I want it to work most, it isnt doing anything. When the light comes back on - it turns everything back on again automatically which is good. Even in the living areas having it turn off at night makes no sense to me. I want it running 24/7. I can of course put it into manual mode - but then this doesn't automatically speed up or slow down the fan as required depending on the air quality. (loses a star rating for this) - The cost of the replacement filters - at $230 / year - I'm not far off being able to buy a brand new additional whole 4-stage one each year. (loses a star rating for this) - It was disappointing not to see my town on the list of locations you can compare the outside air quality to vs the quality in your home. The nearest location to me was completely irrelevant - it was coastal, whereas I am more rural. If you live in one of the big cities this wont be a problem. - Some very minor annoyances - the buttons on top are hard to see especially in low light conditions; the pet filter was a bit of a pain to fit (why not just have a custom one already joined that slips on so we don't have to deal with the double sided tape)
WHAT WOULD I RECOMMEND ================================
- If you want to protect yourself and your family and friends from the nasties floating around in the air and give your body a break, get an air purifier. - For my personal situation, I would 100% buy several of the 4 stage units and then get a separate smart air monitor. I have a WINIX Compact 4 stage in my home office (I work from home), one in my TV room, and one next to my bed. If I had kids at home I would put on of the 4-stages in each of their bedrooms to ensure they got the best sleep they could each night. Just set and forget. - Now that I have one of each model, I will move the bigger 5-stage unit into my living area / TV room and keep the 4-stage next to my bed and one in my office. - Note that on the 4-stage devices you manually have to press the sleep mode if you did want it to quieten down at night while you slept. For me I sleep well so the bit of noise it makes I don't even notice it and if I do hear it - I'm okay with that because I know its working. Short version I never notice it. - If you have several pets, and have allergies and want a full-strength air filter - then buy one of the 5 stages. I don't think you will get a better unit. I just wish that I could have it running in proper auto mode 24/7 and not effectively turning off once the light dims - whether it is in my bedroom or living room. - If you are a very light sleeper, then also get the 5-stage so it automatically turns on and off and by the time you turn your light out the air quality in your room should be the best it can be.
Whichever model you decide on, I think having one is a good thing. Personally I will now always have one next to my bed at night.

offs. She has had to remain indoors at times and so we had been considering acquiring an air purifier for health reasons. Since we have had this appliance, there has been a noticeable improvement to the air quality in our home, and it is cleaner and fresher even now when the pollen count is high. There is a big reduction in surface dust, and my wife has not experienced asthma or hay fever since we acquired it. We have been using the WINIXZERO 360 5-Stage Air Purifier 24/7 for over 2 months. Although we don’t have pets, we have fixed the ‘Ultimate Pet Pre-Filter’ (which is provided) around the outside surface of the filter body. The filter body is a composite unit comprising a Fine Mesh Pre- Filter, a HEPA filter, and a Carbon Filter. The appliance weighs 4.7 Kg and is easily moved, so at night we place it in the main bedroom (about 18 squ. metres) shortly before bed. Once the lights go out it automatically goes into sleep mode and virtually works silently overnight. The Air Quality Indicator LED light is disabled, the fan speed automatically sets to minimum speed which is lower than 'Low' and is silent. When ‘Sleep Mode’ is active, PlasmaWave is disabled but it can be turned back on. At daylight the appliance will automatically revert to normal operation. Most of the time we have it placed in the main living area of the house – open plan kitchen/sun room/family room (about 120 squ. metres) and we leave it in Auto mode with Plasma Wave and Wi-Fi both activated. We have tried it on various fan speeds but after experimenting decided to leave it on ‘Auto’ mode 24/7.
It is recommended for use in rooms of about 100 sq mts in floor area, and to be placed in 450 mms of clear space and away from electronic devices. This is because it draws air from a 360-degree circumference, unlike some units that are placed against walls, and it can malfunction in close proximity to electronic devices. There is an ‘Air Quality Indicator’. The indicator shows one of four levels of air quality – Red (poor), Amber (fair), Green (average), and Blue (good). Our unit generally displays Blue with readings of less than 20 – see attached photo. When the unit is switched on it cycles through a display in the order of these indicators for less than a minute before settling into the normal operating mode. The Unit runs at 80 watts of power, and as we have a Smart Electricity Meter we have been able to monitor electricity consumption in real time. There is no discernible increase in consumption, and we have read that similar units operating 24/7 cost around $10 over 3 months, and we wouldn’t dispute that. On the issue of appliance cost it is important to factor in the cost of replacement filters. The filters for this appliance cost around $230, and from our research that is not unusual in good quality HEPA filters, and some are more expensive. WINIX recommends replacing the HEPA filter every 12 months, but that assumes operation 24/7 for 365 continuous days. If it’s turned off in the low allergy seasons the period for filter replacement will be longer. The unit has a display to advise when filter replacement is due. Filter cartridges can be acquired more cheaply by subscribing to the manufacturers offer to arrange delivery on annual schedule. This will be convenient for some people, but if the appliance is not used 24/7 for 365 days it may be better to not lock into pre- arranged deliveries. The Manufacturer recommends a gentle vacuuming to clean the filters periodically, and unlike some competitors the carbon and HEPA filters are not washable for re-using. It is claimed that the HEPA filter removes 99.999% of air borne particles including pollen, mould spores, dust, pet dander, microbes, and smoke. This assurance is consistent with claims made elsewhere for quality HEPA filters. The claims made for the carbon filter are also consistent with claims made for quality carbon filters elsewhere. We had a real-life experience when we put the carbon filter to the test by accidentally burning something in the oven and filled the kitchen with acrid smoke. The unit has an air quality sensor to measure the level of air pollution around the unit, and when this happened the LED ‘Air Quality Indicator’ glowed ‘Red’ instead of ‘Blue’ and displayed a numeric pollution level of 210 compared with the normal level of less than 20. The fan speed ramped up and the air purifier accelerated the rate at which we got rid of the smoke and its odour. It was effective. The same thing occurred after we had sprayed the kitchen benchtop with a chemical cleaner which has a pleasant odour. The unit detected the odour in the air and the fan speed ramped up until the odour was no longer detectable. The same thing occurred when we used an aerosol insect spray. The PlasmaWave is an interesting feature and the manufacturer claims that this might help reduce air borne bacteria, viruses, and odours. We’re not technically qualified to offer an opinion as to its effectiveness, but we did check the information at https://ausclimate.com.au/blogs/air-purifier-posts/what-is-winix-plasmawave to get an understanding of how it works. The WINIX Smart App (see attached photo) is easily paired to the unit and has controls over power setting as well as scheduling. The unit does not have a remote but that is not an issue for us as the App meets our requirements. We could not find the CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) for this unit so we don’t know how well it compares with expected standards. From our observations it does seem to be powerful and effective. We have found the unit to be easy to use, it performs very well, it’s quiet, and we are very satisfied with it. It has a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty. Recommended.
Amazing – Works perfect for myself and my wife who are seasonal allergie sufferers.
