Unreasonably expensive for the quality of goods
Bought an A-Z animals poster.
Just a mere piece of folded paper with creases. Paid $15.95 for poster and around $12 shipping cost. Thought quality will be good for the money I paid but was left disappointed.
Unfortunately didn't look up for reviews here otherwise wouldn't have shopped with them ever.
Schnithouse packaging on the heavy hardback book included with the two year mag subscription. It arrived in a thin bubble wrap envelope with every corner smashed. You can't blame Startrack for poor packaging!
Pathetic waste of time!
I purchased an item on their 80% prices frenzy sale. Nine days later and after three emails from me to them, they finally reply saying I had missed out on the item I had purchased, even though it was listed as in stock when I purchased it. Why is "customer service" so bad in this country? No wonder people buy on eBay from overseas sellers and that Aussie shops close down. Will never shop with these jokers again!
Bad online experience - doesn't look like I'm the first!!
Ordered goods online. Based on delivery guidelines stated I should have received goods within the timeframe I needed them. I didn't. I reached out to customer care to return them and not be out of pocket. They refused and argued with me. Despite the guidelines clearly published on their site. NO customer service here at all.
I really like the physical stores I've been in, the staff have always been awesome.
Online has appalling customer service and unfortunately that means you've lost another customer. I would point out the reviews here -89% (at time of writing) of reviews 1 star!!! - It's not just me and I can't believe whoever runs the AG stores tolerates this!!!
Will never shop here again - Absolutely Outrageous Treatment of their Customers
My original experience with the Australian Geographic store was a good one, however it soured into an absolute disgrace overnight. Please read the following as you will not believe the obtuse behaviour of store managers and as directed by their regional manager and other senior store managers. This is not skin deep, their problems are systemic within their toxic organisation, said from my experience from the outside as a new customer. Of course this is just my experience.
Please read through as you will not believe what follows and what I was ...told and accused of. As a result, I and my family will never shop at Australian Geographic again, and I am sharing my experience here to warn others, and hopefully get basic customer service on their management agenda. So what happened? I’m glad you asked. I purchased a relatively expensive item as a present from one of the stores and was told that there is a 14 day return full cash refund policy - as long as the item is in new. This made the purchase an easy one for me to make, and I appreciated it. Later that same week I realised that there was a sale that reduced the price of the item by about $20. Not a significant amount of money, yet as I within the 14 days so contacted the same store manager to query their policy and see if they would honour the discount and this is what she unashamedly said to me – and I am paraphrasing here:
Great store service...shame about the online customer service
Have bought a number of items from The Australian Geographic store this year. Most were online but some were instore as well. In each case, with the in-store service, I have found the staff very pleasant and helpful to deal with (well at least at the Carindale and Indooroopilly stores I used). In a couple of the cases after buying online, I have been contacted by store staff to confirm or update online purchase deliveries. Again, all very friendly and helpful. For this, I would gladly award a five star rating.
However, this has all been tarni...shed by my experience with their online customer service. This started when I had cause to contact them (by email) a number of weeks ago regarding a $10 voucher code I had been issued (for my next purchase) not working. Over these last few weeks, they would email me (different support person each time) saying they had sorted the problem and I would have to email them back saying no they hadn't. During this time, I received another voucher code but it was the same as the first so it (obviously) didn't work. It's been nearly three weeks now and the time spent in trying to use the voucher and emailing them stating it doesn't work outweighs the value of the voucher. The last communication was about a week ago when they said they were deciding whether to continue to fix the problem or issue me with a new code. Choice was obvious to me. Can't wait any longer so have deleted the contents of my cart and bought elsewhere. On this basis I'm awarding them a one star rating. Sorry store staff....your good work is being undermined by those working at the other end of your customer support emails. UPDATE Have just received a replacement code which does work. Only took Customer Service four and a half weeks to do it. Terrible customer service!!!!
What a shame
Delivery of goods was not organised. My kids missed out on having their Christmas presents before school went back!
I have asked for a refund on the last item and subscription as after multiple calls and requests for a supervisor to call back and help...I have had nothing. I had to inform customer service of my whole story every time I called.
Switching to National Geographic for kids magazine as I can’t support an organisation that has no care for customers
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME BUYING FROM AG ONLINE!
What a joke of a business! Found some parts i needed for my child on 27/12. Their system said they were in stock so I ordered them and also paid the $15 express post to make sure I got them in 1-3 business days, in time for going on holidays. on 2/1 (ie 3 business days) the day they were due to arrive I logged into my account to check delivery to find out the order status was 'processing'. Called the off shore call center to be told that they must be out of stock. I said how can this be, as your system said in stock when i ordered, otherwi...se I would have ordered elsewhere. No one bothered contacting me to advise of this 3 business days after ordering. I then requested a call from a supervisor within 1 hr. 26 hrs later no call, so called again. Was then told the supervisor was looking into and would call back within 1 hr, now 3hrs later and no call. Unfortunately have wasted too much of my life with this company and will not do business again.
The consultant renewed my subscription plus two free gifts. Excellent service.
I had tried to renew online where it was confusing.
In shop rudeness by staff and customer escorted out by two security guards
I recommend that the reader kindly read what I am writing in full, or he or she could be run the risk of being escorted by security guards out of shop if they attempted to complain publicly inside the shop. This happened to me.
On 20th December at approximately 1.15 pm at the Penrith store, with a two-year-old boy in tow, I chose an item and when I went to pay for it at the cash register, I asked for a book I wished to purchase and I followed the salesperson to the book section in the store. Along the way there were two other staff members pac...
worst experience online shopping ever
Unhappy. My order email confirmation has 2-4 days standard shipping and no order has arrived. This was 8 days ago. I proactively phoned customer service to check status. I was told what I ordered was out of stock of item so they decided "unannounced" to cancel order without any email or phone call and process a refund 7-10days.
I received a call from customer care asked if cold do anything. I said please find a similar product and courier to me as my family from Melbourne coming tomorrow. She was going to talk to warehouse and call back. NO call back as she said she would. Why lie to a customer.
I wish there was a 'no star' option!!!! Do NOT deal with A. Geographic Subscriptions.
Over a month ago, I ordered an Aus Geo Subscription as a part of my husband's birthday gift. Never arrived. Sent elsewhere. Phone and email assistance insinuated I put the dud address. Why would I put an address unknown to me? It was a strange default in their system. No apology. It went elsewhere. I am still waiting. It is December. Now, Aus Post says it won't be delivered due to damage. Inadequately wrapped I presume. Money taken. No product. Magazines are vying for life at the moment. Don't deal with Australian Geographic. Buy it off shelf. Disappointing.
A shop to view for gifts for the young minds
I recently visited the Australian Geographic shop at Garden City, Booragoon, Perth to have a browse at what they were selling. I left the shop pleasantly surprised at what the shop was retailing.
First of all, I believe that it is important for Australian to buy locally as opposed to buying from the Internet. Support your local retail stores before they become extinct and a thing of the past. Secondly, the opportunity to pick up an item to read the item content and purpose is one of the best approach to select a gift appropriate to the ...person you are buying the gift for. I went looking for a gift for my 9 years old nephew who has an inquisitive mind. I also wanted to buy a gift that will allow him to engage with his parents. I left the shop with a board game that met my two criteria for a gift, to keep the mind active/inquisitive and for him to engage with his parents. The game is called the "5 Second Rule". I am not reviewing the board game but stores such as Australian Geographic that carries a wide range of products from microscopes to robotic development kits. Living in an era where children are so glued to their mobile phones or tablets, I offer an alternative gift where children can explore and develop their faculties other than just being glued to their phone/tablet.
Friendly and Helpful - Great Return Policy
Had to return a Vector Anki robot. Good hype bad product see my other review. The staff at the Bondi Junction shop were very helpful and when the product didnt live up to expectation I was without much fuss allowed to mail the product back throught their online customer service to another shop. You cant fault that. The delivery took some time but it was here within the specified period - 1 day earlier infact. I live in country NSW so that was v good. Their shops have stuff you cant buy anywhere else in person so I hope people support them as I would hate this retailer to go under.
What a bad service Australian Geographic ! I’m now very sorry for not reading the reviews, before choosing them. On 2/10/18 I ordered and paid for Wireless Weather Station, including express delivery. On my invoice it is specifically stated delivery within 1-3 days. That is now 11 days since my order and nothing arrived. Now Australia Post tracking is promising delivery on 16/10/18. That will be 15 days since ordering. Excuse by Australian Geographic for taking so long is that is coming from WA to Tasmania. Just can’t understand why my order was filled in WA and not in Victoria where they also carry same item, as I was told. I’m extremely disappointed
Items delivered after just one business day, very happy with that. Free delivery as well which is a nice bonus.
I see there are lots of negative reviews. 126 or something. But I'm confident that this business has done hundreds of thousands of transactions and I'm confident that those posting negative reviews wouldn't have posted a positive one if they'd been happy. Anyway in my experience, I could not be happier with the service I received in getting a Mavic Pro 2 just recently. While people were anxiously waiting for stock from the big brand sellers, I had no patience for that. I’m spontaneous, and in the moment I decided I wanted one, I searched all th...e known places that sell them. All the known sellers were out of stock and I’d have to wait, I was told. I commented on the manufacturers (DJI’s) Facebook page that if I could get one that day, I’d buy it. Not long after, I had someone named Dylan contact me through messenger, telling me he works at Australian Geographic in Mackay, QLD and that he could get me one. Can’t say I wasn’t a little on guard, naturally. He advised me to Google the store number and call there, to verify he was genuine. Dylan said that his supplies come from a Melbourne based distributor. He then offered to call the National Sales Manager of that distributor to see what he could do. We maintained contact through Messenger for the day, while Dylan bounced phone calls around through his network. I need to add here, that it was Dylans DAY OFF work. He’s an employee; not a franchisee or an owner. So Dylan got back to me, advising that the National Sales Manager has some reserve stock kept at a distribution warehouse (name and contact number for distributor was supplied and verified). I called that distribution warehouse and they advised that there was no stock. Dylan then advised me to mention the National Sales Manager’s name to the receptionist, so I called back and did that. That secured me a brand new, sealed Mavic Pro 2 (yes, sealed and brand new), which was then shipped out and arrived in two days after my contact from Dylan. On top of that, I got the best price that I could find anywhere (a price match) and free shipping. All the way through and even up until now, Dylan has been in close contact with me to check that I’m setting things up right, and that everything is good. I was an employer and in the retail industry. I was constantly looking for people who could offer a good level of commitment to their role. Australian Geographic, you have an employee who, on his day off, has gone way beyond my expectations and I’d assume well beyond yours as well, in making an extraordinary effort in getting me a product that so many others are struggling to get, due to high demand. Outstanding service. I thought you should know.
Products are of terrible quality
We have ordered from here twice - once the Galileo thermometer, and secondly, a space-projector thing, and both items have been terrible. The thermometer wasn't actually calibrated, and didn't go above 28 degrees (useless in Sydney) so was basically something decorative, and the projector wouldn't actually project onto anything further than 50cm away in a darkened room.
We had no troubles returning the thermometer, but we have been having some problems with the projector. Firstly, they were difficult about returning it if it wasn't resalab...le in its original packing - it makes me shudder that they would resell this thing that doesn't actually work - and then, when they refunded it, they refunded the wrong amount. They rectified this, but have still not paid for return postage. They say that they will only refund return postage if the item is damaged. I would say that not working as one would reasonably expect (ie project onto walls in a dark room from further away than 50cm) would indicate that a product was a bit damaged... We will wait to hear back from them regarding the postage, but really, we are not going to order from here again. The products have been a bit crap, despite costing a reasonable amount of money ($70~ and $60) You'd probably be be better off going to your local $2 shop.
They don’t refund surcharges!
Went to the Australian Geographic
Emporium Melbourne store, asked for refund coz transaction was posted on the wrong card.
I was told if I wanna repurchase the same item by another card, I will have to pay the surcharge twice!
My first BAD online shopping experience ever!
After years of online shopping I have had my first unhappy experience and surprise, surprise so have many others with this company. I am very sorry I didn't read these reviews before my ordering, I have learned my lesson there. My grandson will now go without birthday presents because it is too late for me to source them elsewhere! What is more annoying is that all 3 products still show on their website as available and In Stock!
I ordered 3 products and after several emails and phone calls, wrong tracking info I finally received one product b...
