I will never book a rental with these theives ever again. Booked a car through Auto Europe UK to be collected at Manchester Airport 0n 30th Dec 2025 from Budget. We had several issues with the car and Budget were absolutely fantastic with us. They refunded the cost of the car hire plus gave us a voucher for the next time we hire! Unfortunately… Read more
they refunded Auto Europe and not us. I have been trying since Jan 5th to get our refund and only just now (6/3/26) have they informed us (after many ignored emails) to expect our refund in 20-25 working days, which is over a month in real time. How do these cowboys get away with this? No idea how they get a 5 star rating on their own website when I cannot seem to leave a review! You can make your decision on that one!
EasyTerra / Auto Europe is a scam company that keeps your money when the car rental provider refuses to give you the car at pickup. It’s pure theft. Their customer service is ineffective — every time you contact them, you have to explain your case all over again to a different employee. To this day, they still haven’t provided any refund. Imagine:… Read more
you pay for a car, the car isn’t delivered, and the broker simply keeps your money without ever having done anything! I honestly can’t believe companies like EasyTerra and Auto Europe still exist — they should be banned. I am even considering filing a police report against this bunch of thieves.
My advice is to choose a reputable company instead. After my booking was refused, I went back to the airport and rented from Alamo — slightly more expensive, but far more reliable. Potential customers should avoid EasyTerra and Auto Europe at all costs. Don’t make the same mistake I did by going for the cheapest offer — you’ll regret it.
*** I get so angry when I read some of these reviews ( and I DO NOT work for Auto Europe ). However, I have been involved in car rental for over 20 yrs - as a licensee for both Thrifty & Europcar . Most of these complaints should have been addressed to the rental company providing the service. The fact of the matter is - companies like Auto… Read more
Europe / Vroom, Vroom, Vroom / AIrport Rentals etc ( we call them " aggregators" ) charge a pretty hefty commission, usually in the range of 30%. Consequently, when a booking is made through one of these platforms, it is a real temptation by the renting company to give the booking a lower priority to one that is more profitable. We had this happen with a recent booking in Milan. Avis booking engine showed that Auto Europe had booked us an Intermediate SUV. When we arrived, they tried to put us into a CDAR ( Ford Focus or similar ) & demanded 15 Euro a day extra if we wanted the car we had booked. We stood our ground and ended up compromising on a FWD wagon which had a heap of existing damage. Absolutely, no fault of Auto Europe - just the local interpretation of the booking - taking into account they were holding back their SUV's for " walk-ups" coming in for the Winter Olympics ( for which they would be able to charge top rates )
*** This is my original review :
We usually book with the Airport Rentals or Vroom,Vroom, Vroom but after a bad experience with Sixt in Ireland, I thought I would try Auto Europe. Initially I booked a car in Vancouver & the advert stated that it had winter tyres . When Hertz informed me they could not guarantee this - I contacted Auto Europe & they immediately offered me a full refund. Re-booked with Alamo ( through Auto Europe ) & when we arrived in Canada, the rental was seamless from start to finish. This time, we booked a small SUV out of Milan. Due to an error when Auto Europe booked the car with Avis, it appeared that I was going to get a compact car ( Ford Focus or similar ) instead . However, after a brief phone call yesterday to a lovely young lady by the name of Jane ( at Auto Europe ), she sorted out the problem, and re-booked me an intermediate SUV - with Auto Europe covering the price difference ( which was quite considerable ). At the same time, she also added in the countries which we plan to visit & gave me a really good briefing on all the rental terms & conditions. This included an explanation of the "cross border fee" which one of the other reviews mentioned. Having been in car rental myself for over 20 years, I appreciated her total professionalism. So far, we have had nothing short of amazing service ( and excellent rental deals ) from Auto Europe.

We prepaid for a rental car with Enterprise Laval France that was not as requested but substituted for a vehicle returned 1hr earlier that was partially fuelled, dirty and with a faulty console. This vehicle was not safe, we drove just over 150km prior to a tyre completely deflating and unable to be repaired by Enterprise RoadAssist who deemed the… Read more
tyre bald (no tread) and unroadworthy. They towed the vehicle away. No vehicle replacement was received, no car hire refund received, but a charge of E2500 processed to my credit card for tyre damage ie Enterprise Laval charged the customer for an unroadworthy vehicle that was dangerous and should not have been on the road. No care taken and vehicle not maintained. A very dangerous situation for renters.
Highly misleading dont get caught – Beware of misleading website. I selected unlimited kms on hire of car in paris and selected the car I wanted. On the booking page, in bold print it states unlimited kms. But in the fine print below the kms are actually limited to 3750 per 30 days. As we are travelling from Paris to Portugal with side trips this would have resulted in about… Read more

AutoEurope.eu defrauded me (with evidence to support my statement) – Auto Europe voucher EU20347822 I rented a car through AutoEurope at Bergamo Airport Italy from 27/12/2023 till 06/01/2024 and informed them that I would be travelling to Austria and Germany. When I went to pickup my car, the car rental company informed me that there was a EUR 132 cross border charge, which was not listed on the rental voucher… Read more
from AutoEurope.eu and I refused to pay. They also have a section on the rental voucher of what the rental includes and does not include to avoid surprises and hidden costs.
Therefore I called AutoEurope.eu and was on the phone for 7 minutes at 12:46 PM 27/12/2023 with a customer care representative who told me to sign the agreement and pay the EUR 132 cross border charge for which I would get refunded by AutoEurope.eu. I requested this in writing via email, which was confirmed via email by AutoEurope.eu customer support.
Today I just received an email from AutoEurope.eu who are claiming that since I accepted the agreement they cannot refund me becuse "The rental contract is an agreement solely between you and the local supplier." - which they instructed me to sign since this was not on the AutoEurope.eu voucher and was an oversight from their end for which they are accepting the oversight and would be refunding (both on the phone and then confirming via email).
This is fraud and I will be escalating this with the pertinent consumer authority.
PS: I cancelled a reservation with AutoEurope.eu voucher #20734795 for 02 Feb 2024 till 06 Feb 2024 and opted for another car rental website which I made sure has no ties to AutoEurope.eu.
Most useless – Don’t ever book your car hire via a third party . An expensive lesson learnt on our recent trip to USA and booked and paid autoeurope in Sydney for car hire via thrifty . Absolute nightmare , not to mention the useless counter staff at thrifty LAX Show details

Auto Europe and Europcar has been a very positive experience for us! – We booked a car from Auto Europe in Australia with car pick up in Sion/Switzerland and drop off at Geneva Airport at 6:30 in the morning. I was able to pick up the car slightly in advance - no question asked. The booking mentioned an Audi or similar car and we ended up with a beautiful and new Audi from Europcar. Superb service with no additional… Read more

AutoEurope Australia car hire in Italy May 2019 – We hired a car on-line in Australia for pick-up in Como, Italy and drop-off in Milan. Did heaps of research as this was our first booking and decided to go with AutoEurope. The booking was really easy and they helped with all our questions. Pick-up and drop was perfect, car was upgraded due to one we ordered being unavailable. There was a… Read more
slight hiccup with Hertz Italy double charging for some fees in Italy (drop location and additional driver). Emma at AutoEurope was fantastic and kept us up to date with the progress of our inquiry which resulted in Hertz refunding 100% of the overcharge by Hertz. Would happily use them again.
Great service and price match to boot! – I originally booked in Feb 2017, for a pickup in Dubrovnik, May 2017, Croatia. Skoda Octavia, manual diesel sedan with aircon. Unfortunately Europcar, my preferred rental company, does not operate there, so Auto Europe recommended Avantcar, pick up at airport. Europe, and yes, they listed the exact car, also available from Dubrovnik Airport....I fly out in 4 days time!!
I rang Auto Europe, and spoke to a lovely lass, who helped me get a refund of the difference....$195AUD...!!
This is an example of great service, and a company honoring their policy.
Big thumbs up for Kirsten, and Andrew for their assistance, and a big shout out to Auto Europe!
June 6th 2017 Update: Just gets better and better
Booked a Skoda Octavia and was expecting to get a used car, seeing all reports about the crazy drivers in Croatia. Upon arrival at Dubrovnik Airport we were greeted by to lovely staff at Avantcars. They advised us that they would give us a new Renault Megan 2.0 Turbo 4 dr sedan! This car was fantastic to drive (after learning all the controls). 6 sp manual and all leather interior, dual zone climate control, with lane assistance, and ECO mode. Heaps better than the modest Skoda I paid for. Car was returned without damage, and was checked by the staff, and confirmed.
Best service from Auto Europe, and their supplier in Croatia, Advantcar. A real 5 star outfit!!

Do not try to use this company for car rental, it is a nightmare, they duplicate my charge and at the time of online purchase, their platform failed to disclose critical terms that later impacted my rental. Had I been informed, I would not have proceeded with the booking. this is the worst online car rental agent.
Not a great experience with Auto Europe and Europcar. From Australia we booked (and paid for) a car to be picked up in Munich South and dropped off at Munich Airport - for 17 days. 48-hours before collection, we visited another Europcar (Munich) branch in a bid to try and get the pickup location changed to there - as it was walking distance from… Read more
our accommodation. They were nice enough but told us we would not be able to change as it was not a booking made directly with Europcar. On the day of car collection, we were first let down by Uber, and then the replacement taxi took longer to pick us up, and so we arrived at Munich South around 60-minutes late. Again, the car had been paid for so we weren't overly concerned. How wrong we were - "our" car had been rented to someone else due to our "late" arrival. We then waited 20-30 minutes for another car to be returned. It was vacuumed, but left filthy on the exterior, and was riddled with hail damage. As it was a hybrid we were asked to pay an upgrade!! We also paid a cross-border fee, but later noticed that the vignette was years old - so hope there are no fines heading our way. The car's remote locking was terrible - seemingly more than just a battery issue. When we returned the car to the airport, the lady processing it found a small scratch on the side rear-vision mirror that wasn't listed on the contract. No money should be required from us, as we took out full insurance with zero excess, but it did mean we were held for an extra 20 minutes discussing this scratch - now visible after the car got a "wash" with torrential rain one day - but certainly not found by Europcar Munich South in the 5-minute vaccuuming prior to handing the car to us.
I certainly wouldn't use Auto Europe again, nor Europcar. We do quite a bit of travelling, and this was easily our worst experience
LIAR !! – Be careful !!! Big liar !!! They sold me an insurance which would cover the FULL DEDUCTIBLE. They wrote on the voucher that they would refund me the full amount of 900 euros. But when I picked up the car, the deductible was 2000 euros !!! So I was obliged to by directly to the rental company an additional insurance. Of course, when imade a claim to Europcar, they don't reconize their mistake. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.

Predatory, do not use – Charged me for damage that was literally a pin head sized rock chip. They conveniently waited til I had left to "discover" it. Horrible operation.
Your think that you have paid for the car rental only to get another bill and not the car you have booked – They ask which car you want to hire but when you get to your destination you will be given a cheap car, usually a MG, we booked 3 different cars a Peugeot 3008, Nissan Qashqai and a Kia Sportage but never got any of these cars, the different hire car agency's stated that they do not have any of these cars and haven't had for a long time. had a five speed manual gearbox, the cruise control was under the steering wheel and didn't function as should have, the car had no power and was heavy on fuel. Auto Europe also ask you about other driver, taking their details so that you think that the both of you can drive the car when you get to your destination only for you to have to pay another $50 a day for your partner to drive the car. They give you an Australian number for if you have any problems, we were on the phone with them for nearly 2 hour to sort our issue out, at first they said to call back during business hours. I would say just book directly with the car hire firms yourself it will be cheaper.
"Terrible Customer Service and Unclear Policies – Do Not Recommend" – I recently had a very disappointing experience with Auto Europe. able to use the service I had fully paid for.
The entire process was incredibly frustrating. I traveled for over an hour, waited 30 minutes for the shuttle, and then spent an additional 10 minutes traveling to the rental office, only to be turned away. The whole ordeal took four hours of my time, with no result.
To make matters worse, it took over two weeks to get a response to my inquiry. Instead of addressing the situation or offering a refund for the service I was denied, they simply reiterated their terms, despite the fact that my license met their stated requirements.
This situation has left me feeling very disappointed. I was initially going to ask for compensation for the time and effort wasted, but instead, I'm having to fight just to avoid being charged for a service I didn’t receive. I would not recommend Auto Europe based on this experience, as they’ve shown a lack of clarity and customer care throughout the process.
Just DON'T! – Note: whatever you purchase from these guys is only a VOUCHER that will be used towards the final bill of the rental period . The final bill is calculated based on the full rate charged by the car hire company on the day. Do not think that what you pay to Auto EUROPE will be your final bill. . Overall hire cost was $850 for 4 days. Pricey!!! $400 voucher purchased from Auto Europe + $450 out of pocket. Also we paid for a Mercedes Class A and received an Opel. Auto Europe is not responding on missing money – I booked a car with Auto Europe. Car was supplied by Hertz. I paid € 1214,74 to Euro Europe and Hertz only received € 1041,94 from Auto Europe. Don't do it! – This company is terrible. We had an awful experience and all they cared about was making sure they had their slice of the money, there is nothing else other than middle man greed with them. to pay an additional €120 for the out of hours service, but admitted that the contract stated otherwise. They said we could leave and lose our money, or pay the additional.
We expected that AutoEurope would recognise this as illegitimate instantly, but instead they said we should have paid the fee and "tried" to reclaim it through them.
Now they have said a bunch of lies that we were late, when we weren't, and they are not going to provide a refund.
This is a terrible company that provides no means for review. They publish their own review which isn't gauged and all others on independent sites highlight massively lower ratings.

We contacted Autoeurope on our return home and explained clearly what had happened and that we were provided with a car in very poor condition. I would advise anyone thinking about using Autoeurope to avoid them and book direct with the rental car company. In conclusion, AutoEurope can be an intermediary to rent a car, pay for it & receive commissions for their role, but not when a fair solution is asked for no help for us as clients at all. Hertz being the bigger company they don't want to lose. Although I worked with both of them before, I lost my trust in Hertz & AutoEurope as well.

Avoid at all costs, even if offer cheaper price!! – If your flight is delayed then they’ll sell your car to someone else and keep all of your money - don’t even phone you first!!! You’re left with them having taken your money and no car at all. which time I've been following up and trying to understand what's going on, only to be faced with very rude and unprofessional treatment from their customer service. I've also reached their local partner, the actual car rental company and they verbally confirmed there is indeed a car booked in my name, but they cannot formally issue a booking voucher, since it's booked through Auto Europe, a third party. However, later on I get an email from Auto Europe stating that the car I booked is not available and I have to upgrade to another car which is 50% more expensive than the car I initially booked and got charged for. This is obviously unethical behaviour and they're just trying to rip me off and squeeze more money out of their customers. When I was booking the car, there was never a mention that it's just a quotation not an actual booking. If I knew the car is not instantly booked I wouldn't have dealt with such company in the first place. had problems immediately. When I arrived at the Hertz location in Florence, the Hertz employees were unable to process the voucher that I had purchased from Auto Europe because the voucher was missing some information. I was told I would have to put a hold on my credit card for the rental while Hertz and Auto Europe figured out what went wrong with the voucher.
Fast forward 2 weeks and they did not figure out the issue so I had to pay for the rental out of my own pocket. This is after I already paid Auto Europe for the voucher. When I looked at the bill, I was shocked to see that the total cost of the car rental was $900. I was shocked because I had paid Auto Europe over $2,000 for the voucher that was supposed to cover the rental.
So, car rental cost = $900, Auto Europe voucher cost = $2000, and I paid for both out pocket. I've been requesting a refund from Auto Europe for TWO MONTHS and have been shouted at by their customer service representatives for having the audacity to request a refund. Then no one objected to give me the car. On the contrary, payment was successful and a voucher was sent to me. If there really is an age limit, why doesn't Auto Europe warn his potential customers about it and take the money without any doubt? Is that honest? Isn't that a hoax? 2. My driver’s license - the seller claimed that he could not see if I had driving experience or not, as it was issued in 2018. What is he talking about? Any document has two dates: the date of issue and the expiration date, it does not matter, a passport, driver’s license or any other document. If Auto Europe needs, in addition to the license, a document confirming that I am an experienced driver, Auto Europe must announce this in advance, and not at the moment when the client arrives for the car. In the past, we contacted different companies, and we were never asked for anything like that. Even now, after such a disappointing experience with Auto Europe, we immediately went to another agency and got a car without any problems, so I believe that requirements are either completely wrong or employees have no idea what to check and their demand only proves their low professional qualifications. In conclusion, we expected that Auto Europe will fully refund the money that we paid for the car that we never received, and we believe that we also deserve some compensation for moral damage (two elderly people unexpectedly and without any reason were left without a prepaid car, lost a lot of time not to mention nerves) and also for a surcharge of another 150 euros to rent a car just on the spot at the airport. Although we got refund for the car, we didn’t got any compensation. I will never rent a car in AUTO EUROPE in the future, that’s not how vacation suppose to begin.
