DOES NOTHING OMG – My son 14 used this couple days ago applied as directed at the swimming park. His barely slept for the last 2 nights he is so badly sunburnt. It's 50+ sunscreen this is criminal why are these products not removed from the market. We are using apple cider vinegar and sunburn spray but may need doctor visit tomorrow. I am horrified this product is… Read more
on the shelves. Says 4hr protection but apply every 2hrs he did and very high protection! Well NO did nothing.
Unsafe and very painful. Do not use! – The banana boat 50+ ultra product provides zero sun burn protection in fact it exacerbates burning. Possibly chemical burns? Whole family has suffered red stinging burning after using it liberally and regularly in a two hour period.. The texture is very thin and it is awfully greasy when applied on the skin. Unsafe and very painful skin burns are the result within an hour of applying. Do not use! Rubbish product that should be banned. Show details
Burnt red raw!!!! – I put the Ultra 50+ on my 11 year old daughter. She applied it thickly every half hour while playing tennis and came home burnt red all over. Her face was red raw and blistered in the evening. She has never been burnt so badly and is unable to move for a week! Very dangerous product because you think it is protecting you but it is not. It literally cooks you! Show details

Banana Boat 50+ Sensitive - works fine for me – I have been using a tube of Banana Boat 50+ Sensitive that I bought last summer (expiry date 07.2018) and have had no problems with it - no sign of burning after 3 hours or so in the sun.
Always use this product excellent however spray version may be faulty – I have used this product for years with no issues and found it excellent especially the non greasy face product. However, recently my husband went camping with his brother's family and my sister in law and niece used the banana boat spray on product where we always use the cream. They were both red raw after one day but my son who has the same complexion had no sunburn at all! Maybe it's the spray version that is faulty?
Love banana boat use it on all 4 of my children – I use the orange banana boat and have never had a problem but if you don't wait 20mins before going into the sun after each application then yes you do get burnt but those instructions are on the bottle
Negative reviews
rash & irritation – I used before a golf outing and developed a red rash that I thought might be from sun poisoning. Next time out I applied a little heavier and only developed a thicker more irritating rash. DO NOT USE if you have sensitive skin! Show details
BEWARE DOES NOT WORK!!!! – Doesn’t work!!! Bought the 50+ sports sunscreen. Was in the beach for 1.5 hours. Burnt red raw!!! Throw this sunscreen out if you have it. It’s usless!!!!
Daughter got rash and blisters after using it – My daughter had this on before going swimming, an hour later she was very red and started getting blisters in the next 12hours.

Worst sunscreen ever, do not buy this product – My 9 and 7 year old daughters went to the beach after applying this product. They swam and reapplied as recommended and have ended up so Sun burnt. I feel so disappointed and guilty that I have sent them off to the beach without the sun protection we all thought they were getting. This product should be removed from sale immediately.
Dangerous stuff – Bought the banana boat sport 50+ on recent trip to Australia. Applied before going in sun/sea and allowed time for it to soak in but have been badly burnt, even though I was applying it every hour and after going in the sea. Would not recommend!!
This product should be banned- dangerous – I cannot believe this product is not banned in Australia- it does not work. Bought it for my daughter to use in Bali- she and her boyfriend badly burned- lathered in this stuff, out for less than 1/12 hours and did not swim.
Worst sunscreen ever! – My family used the Banana Boat Ultra SPF 50+ on Christmas Day and we have been left badly burnt - even with reapplying 3 times in a four hour period and allowing it to soak in before swimming, This product should not be allowed to be sold! Besides feeling ripped off, I’m feeling down right angry and concerned.

Never use it – Hi. I was out two days ago and i used 50+ banana boat. The worst decision iv ever made. I applied it on my chest and face three times in four hours and my arms are barely burnt but my chest and face is blistering and burning because i put on this sunscreen. Never ever using it again It is so painful and i also applied spray on banana boat sun… Read more
screen and i felt it burning me after i put it on. I honestly believe that i wouldn't be in this pain if i didn't put it on
It is two days after and the pain is worse everyday
Please never use this sunscreen unless you are wanting to be burnt from it
This product should be banned before they seriously do damage to people like little kids
Burnt – Hi, my husband and our 4 kids used banana boat. We applied before Sun - liberally and we are all burnt. Really upset actually as I try to educate the children about sunburn.
DO NOT USE!!! – Went through 2 bottles of 30+ and 80+. None worked and got burnt like crazy. Will never use this brand again and im letting everyone know. This stuff is dangerous and should be taken off shelves.
Avoid Avoid Avoid – This product ruined my t shirt along with my sons t-shirt. Stained both our white T-shirts badly. Sprayed our necks put on t shirts. After washing several times the yellow stain has ruined my expensive Lacoste T-Shirt terrible product. Don't use this product its terrible for staining clothes.
0 rating...dangerous...misleading...waste of money – New formula is useless but more importantly dangerous!! My daughter and her family were badly burnt by this product. But my poor little 2yr old grandson has shocking facial burns from using banana boat. It's worrying that they could scar his delicate face. My daughter applied it correctly and reapplied it again at the stated time frame on bottle… Read more
but he still got shocking sunburn. He was in so much pain. So angry that you trust these big money companies but they lie & just take your money. Please please DON'T use their products especially on kids who rely on us adults to protect them. My daughter was so upset knowing she thought he was adequately protected & seeing him in pain. Thank goodness he had a long sleeve rashy & hat on which prevented more damage. Contacted banana boat but they said they stand by their products and made out my daughter used it incorrectly. So wrong they get away with it & no one really governs this!!
Newer Formula Royally Sucks! – This product deserves ZERO stars. I am a fair fair-skinned person and cannot tan (come from a line of Irish redheads, although I am blonde). I just burn horribly and freckle, and have already has skin cancer on my shoulders, with precancerous growth on my upper chest. I first purchased the Banana Boat 50+ in 2009 after my son was born. It was very… Read more
thick and white, and I think it had zinc oxide in it. It coated his skin and mine well and worked wonderfully. I still have that squeeze tube but it is almost gone. So, for a trip recently I purchased another squeeze tube of it, same label, same look, same SPF. My son is now 8 and tans, so he doesn't need as much of it. I still need it, of course. This new bottle of it does NOT work. I notice that it is much thinner and runnier than it was in 2009-2011. Upon reading the ingredients list, they have changed the formula. It is total CRAP! I applied it in a thick layer, nearly took a bath in the stuff, while on vacation, and went out sight-seeing on a sunny day, believing I was protected by this stuff like I used to be. Huge mistake. Within an hour I was burning. I never went into the water, just walked around. Got back to our hotel and I was red and blistering. In addition to a horrible sunburn it appears that chemicals in the formula were further hurting my skin. I began itching and my skin began cracking in spots where I was burned. Not sure if I developed sun poisoning or if the cream made it worse. It totally ticks me off that they changed the formula and continue to lie about the product. It's as effective as putting water on your skin. What a total rip-off and lie. They should he held responsible for negligence, leading people to believe their product still works when it doesn't, and causing bodily harm. I will be looking for another product. Bye-bye, Banana Boat. You screwed up.
I am a potato – I hate this sunscreen I was sooooo disappointed, not only am i burnt but i look like a potato!! I only recomend this to people who can stay in the sun for a long time and not get burnt, don't get this product!!!!!!!!!
Liars! – Spent 2.5 hours at the beach yesterday. Applied cream before heading to the beach and half an hour into my time there. I went for a swim and am now red raw.... The front label indicates it is water resistant however upon reading the fine print at the back, I've discovered that they recommend 'reapplying generously after swimming'... Not only is… Read more
this false advertising, it's negligent and has resulted in a serious burn to my back! Horrendous. Very irresponsible of Banana Boat.
Definitly a problem, should be recalled, cream seems to have broken down – Definitly a problem, should be recalled. My 9 + 11year old terribly burnt , same as their uncle, who works outside all day. I made the mistake of supplying this sunscreen to them all, they dutifully applied heaps 3 times, all now sick in bed, I however, who burns very easily, used Reef 30+ Coconut Oil, and I'm just a little pink. Also I noticed… Read more
that the contents of the Banana Boat Pump seems to have broken down into a very thin milk, I am pretty positive that it was a thicker cream when I purchased it a week ago. Maybe the problem for so many is caused by its breaking down.

Do NOT Recommend!! – Doesn't even deserve 1 star, this stuff is absolutely rubbish! I don't burn especially when I put sunscreen on...I tan! Right now I'm a red tomato after using the spf 50+ banana boat sunscreen. Re-applied each hour for 3 hours down on the beach. I didn't even go in the water so it's not like it washed off (even though it's waterptoof, sweat proof… Read more
and meant to last 4 hours). I swear there is some chemical in this product that is burning my skin, not the sun! When I touch the burnt areas of my skin it bloody hurts but doesn't feel hot like normal sunburn does.
Fix your game Banana Boat because you have gone down hill!
Don't Buy!!!! – My 4 & 2 year old extremely sunburnt using the 50+ cream for kids this is the second time now & heaps was applied to them...used another brand on the adults and two older kids (9 & 12) not sunburnt at all! We all only spent 2-3 hrs at the beach that day. After this being the second time this has happened in extremely frustrated and won't use or recommend this brand!!
Beach Lifeguard can't rely on Banana Boat – Purchased a large tube of Banana Boat Sport 50 + from Coles. Used it once on the head and face. Even with a hat and sunglasses I ended up getting unusually burnt with a red stinging pain almost more like a chemical burn. I feel like Banana Boat should be called out and do some more thorough testing. Also, may I add, the old 30+ Banana Boat Sport sun cream appreared to be a better product compared to the 50 + branded formula.
No stars deserved – 7 year old girl, one of the latest SEVERE victims. Her entire face swelled up, her legs and arms were burnt regardless of thorough application. She could barley open her eyes the next day and 2nd degree burns over her face. We could include a 9 and 11 year old to the list as well, their burns were not as bad but both suffered 2nd degree burns as well. Needless to say I'm pretty upset with this old and trusted Australian brand.
4 children burnt using banana boat 50+ – I have 4 children, applied Banana Boat 50+ to all of them, my 3 eldest applied all day continuously and they are all burnt. My 12 yr old has swollen lips and eyes she can hardly open from sunburn. My youngest is 3 and I was using a different brand up til late afternoon, grabbed the Banana Boat as it was on table and applied. He has woken up this… Read more
morning with blisters on his face where I applied the Banana Boat. We saw the Dr this morning and she said he has reacted to the Banana Boat sunscreen and highly recommended that no one uses it as it does not work at all as she has seen other patients with exact same story. Do not buy, she recommended a brand called Hamilton from chemists. So upset by this whole ordeal!
No good – My son got burnt on his face today after I applied the sensitive 50+ on him. He was also wearing a hat. It's the second time this has happened and I couldn't work out why until my sister in law told me she saw people having problems with this product on the news. I will definitely be throwing this sunscreen out and buying a new brand.
wasn't this meant to be the best !!!! – Hi just letting you know that don't use this sunscreen it is crap i reackon the woolworths brand of sunscreen is 100 times better then this one i put banana boat sunscreen on my daughter and she got burnt on her back and shoulders my newphew had some on as well he got really bad sunburnt that it caused him to blister they need to change their formula in the sunscreen or take it off the shelves! !
Dreadful. Don't buy – Bought a brand new bottle 50+ from the chemist and my entire family got roasted after applying it twice over a period of a couple of hours. Everyone got extremely burnt and an orange colour tone all over.
Allergic Reaction then red bags under eyes – My daughter had an allergic reaction to 50SPF Banana Boat Sunscreen which we have been using for years with no problem. . A few days later we went to the beach and used BB Sensitive 50SPF - no allergic reaction, but the kids were left red and burnt, especially under their eyes, and yes I applied A LOT of sunscreen. Something has gone terribly wrong with this product. It used to be really good, not anymore :(
Absolutely rubbish !!!!!!!! – 1.3 hours aroud 5pm when the sun is not maximum dengerous and I got burnt using a Sport SPF 50+!!!!!! How can they sell an expensive sunblock that doesn't work!!!!! come on!!!
Absolute joke – Myself and my children completely burnt after 2 hours at the beach absolutely disgusted by this product. I may as well have sprayed cooking oil over us! I will never buy this product again.
Angry. SO disappointing – Fresh orange bottle of banana boat sport spf 50. Useless. Young kids 6 and 10 burnt. Not new at applying sunscreen. Rash vests and hats worn but still sunburnt after double application. Feel I've let my children down. Hang you're head stinking Banana Boat.
AVOID!! – I applied the Banana Boat Ultra SPF 50 sunscreen at around 12:00 today, didn't go into the sun for a good 15-20 minutes, and then was working outside until almost 5:00pm. In that time a re-applied TWICE. The first time around 2:00 pm when I noticed my shoulders starting to go red and get a little warm, despite the sunscreen stating it offers 4… Read more
hours protection.
I re-applied with a different brand on the last application as I realise it wasn't working, but the damage was done. The last brand I applied I had used on My face to start with, and despite not wearing a hat, there's not a single red mark.
My shoulders are severely burned and radiating heat, as well as my chest/collarbones. It stings to shower.
I am extremely disappointed and suspected it had expired (why else would a SPF 50 sunscreen allow me to be so badly burned?) But NO! According to it's expiry date it should be good for a whole year longer until 2018!
-Burnt and Disappointed.
