New Car Battery – My car battery was coming up to 7-years old, and I left the interior light on. Result dead battery. I looked on-line to see where I could obtain a new battery, but most outlets did not deliver, or would at an outrageous cost. Then I found Batteries Direct, Peakhurst NSW. I phoned and they had the Battery I needed in stock and could ship for $12. I… Read more
ordered and paid for the battery. The salesperson was helpful and polite. The price of the battery was competitive with other outlets. The battery arrived just after midday the next day. I fitted it and was mobile again. Great service, thank you.
Reasonable, cheap, but not easy – Good product range. Very poor communication. Basic info like availability and lead times not on website No response to online submission or emails, so I have to call every time I needed extra info. No tax invoice provided until chased (via phone call) Credit where credit is due, the guy on the phone was very nice every time I called. Show details
Brilliant service – Our rechargable battery died. The lawnmower was purchased from Masters which is now defunct. Ron did not have the same brand but could provide a similar one. Ordered one day, delivered the next!!! What incredible service. Photo is of the old battery. Ron supplied us with a Drypower battery.

Efficient service – Issues: My HP laptop battery needed a replacement BUT HP Part no longer stock the battery. However, there was an added cost of 3% for insurance which I did not take up - though I was worry and decided to seek advise from Sales. The ph was answered promptly at the stated opening time @ 7.30 am and was advised it would be safe not to have the added Insurance. Outcome: Battery dispatched on 26/3/19 and received the same day i.e. within Sydney. Now it is a matter to wait and see if the product is of good quality.

Warranty Claim rejected – I purchased a yellow top optima battery from these guys which included 3 years warranty at $340 odd. 12 months later the battery failed. It was used in my vehicle which is a weekend use vehicle. I never ran it flat or overcharged. When attempting to claim under warranty i was told that their supplier had requested that i charge the battery and… Read more
re test it at least 12.65 volts or better and forwarding the results. The test results i had printout which i emailed them showed the battery was tested at 12.35 volts (approx. 50% discharge) which would guarantee a low CCA reading.
I then asked if i could just send it back to them? Testing it costs me $40 each time which im sure they’re not willing to cover. If they could please organize a courier to pick up I’ll have it ready for them.
Either way it came with a 3 year warranty which it is within terms, and it doesn’t start my car.
When the last test was done I jump started it to go to the mechanic, turned it off and within a couple minutes he tested it. My guess is the battery in its current state, isn’t capable of maintaining a voltage of 12.65VDC. The battery is rated at 750CCA, it was measured at 269CCA. Is a 300mV increase really likely to make that much difference? I then asked if a courier pickup is possible/necessary…
Further to this, I placed the battery on charge using a Projecta pro-charge 16Amp charger and after approx 10 hours of charging it displayed the fault led and when checking the voltage it was 3.2vdc. I pleaded asking; can you send me a replacement battery asap so I can get my car back on the road??
The response i was given was something similar to, Unfortunately, we are unable to authorize a replacement based on the information you have supplied. We request the battery be returned for inspection and testing. (address below) *Please note, cost of returning the battery for assessment is not covered by warranty. *****************Battery was sent to Batteries Direct at my cost.*************************
The response i recieved was something like, Please find files attached and email below relating to your warranty claim. Please refer to attached Warranty Test report and attached photos regarding the Optima D34/78 returned for testing. ATTACHMENT CONTENT TEST REPORT FROM OPTIMA: Test Report Optima D34/78 Batteries Direct 6/02/2019 Battery received Wed 6th Feb 2019 Notes: Terminal voltage of Battery as received 2.23 Volts Vent cap missing or removed Negative post side (refer attached photos) Claim form states battery used for automotive use however, both terminals show evidence of marks consistent with alligator clip style of connection rather than automotive terminals. Details of fault: Unable to charge.
Findings: Battery terminal voltage extremely low consistent with extreme discharge, Battery was connected to Noco Automatic charger, Battery voltage was measured at 14.38 whilst on charge. After approx. 15-20 minutes battery was checked and found to be extremely hot around the 2 cells close to negative terminal. Charging was ceased and battery allowed to cool down, Voltage checked after 45 mins and read 4.25 volts.
Conclusion: The cause of the battery failure would most likely be that at some stage the battery has been connected to a power drain and left for a period of time causing the extreme discharge. Once the discharge was identified, charging was attempted and battery became overheated causing the vent cap to be dislodged or pop off due to internal resistance and build up of internal pressure. Sulfation of the cells near the negative terminal is causing the heat build up and resistance to charging. The Manufacturers warranty terms do not cover abuse of battery which can be either overcharge or extreme discharge and sulfation. Therefore we cannot process the battery as a replacement warranty claim in this instance.
My response back was something very similar to; Just have some queries regarding my rejected warranty claim. (See attached) You mention: 'Vent cap missing or removed Negative post side.' This happened when the battery got hot on the day I took it down to the auto electrician to get the battery tested. This was when it was first noticed and steam was coming from the hole. It wasn't removed, it dislodged due to the battery being that degraded that it overheated. There was no tampering with the battery that took place. You also mention: 'Claim form states battery used for automotive use however, both terminals show evidence of marks consistent with alligator clip style of connection rather than automotive terminals.' My battery has failed and hasnt been holding charge for a number of months now. As a result I've often had to charge the battery with my charger. My charger does have alagator style clamps which unfortunately appear to have marked the battery posts. And when out and about when ive been unable to start my vehicle due to the failed battery, I've had to jump start it and my jump starter also has alagator style clamps which unfortunately appear to have marked the battery posts. Marked battery posts is no evidence I've used my battery against manufacturers guidelines. It was installed in my car, my car has no permanently powered equipment such as a fridge etc. And gets driven weekly. I trust based on the above counterclaims, you might reconsider my warranty claim and I await your further response.
I do not want a replacement battery as I've purchased another one already. As per batteries direct warranty statement I request a full refund into my account:
OCBA are backing me on this one mate, the balls in your court.
Further to that, my vehicle has threaded bolt lugs that only work with side mount battery terminals. I would have to remove these and fit standard battery lugs to suit posts for me to connect to the posts, and due to clearance issues when my bonnet is closed this isn't viable anyway. The D34/78 is the specified.

Batteries Direct Warranties breach of Australia Consumer Law – I have had two Mottoblatt AGM batteries die, the first of which was replaced by Batteries Direct in Sydney. I gave them a month but I never heard from them again until I involved Paypal. I only ever obtained my return postage costs from Paypal and not Batteries Direct. I eventually got a refund from Batteries Direct but this was the very same day I used Paypal's dispute procedure. Funny that. I give 10 out of 10 and a big shout out for Paypal. I give nothing for batteries direct. I will never use them again.

In short they are rubbish, avoid them at all costs and more so, I mean your cost!!

From the moment I placed my order online the service from Batteries Direct went from excellent to bad.
In my mind, a 10 day turn around between placing and then receiving an online order to a company within Eastern Australia is a reasonable expectation.
After 5 days of hearing nothing and no notification of any progress on the status of my order I decided to call Batteries Direct to follow up.
When I called on the morning of the 6th business day and spoke to XXXXXX, I first enquired to see if the items I had ordered were in stock. I was placed on hold twice while she found out for me. I was advised that one of my items was in stock but the second of my items wasn't. She then placed me on hold again while she transferred me to another person who stated they had a replacement item that would do the same job. "Great" I said, "now how do I proceed with my order?". I was transferred back to XXXXXX to whom I stated I wanted to proceed but only if I would absolutely have my order within the next 4 business days. XXXXXX then advised me she would take care of my order.
Now thinking that they two products in stock that met my needs I thought it would be reasonable to expect that my order should be processed and dispatched later on that same day. 6 hours passed and no such email notification or any contact whatsoever....
Since this was now day 6 and with my remaining 4 business day deadline in mind I called Batteries Direct again to see if my order had been processed yet. I figured if it hadn't been processed and dispatched prior to close of business on this day then it would be extremely unlikely that I would receive my order in time.
Once again XXXXXX answered the phone. When I explained that I was following up on the order she had said she would take care of earlier she asked if i had received her email. I had not found her emails in my spam folder at that point in time. She then told me the item that she had previously advised me was in stock actually wasn't. It would require back order. Why hadn't she called me if this was the case? Especially since I had already tried to express to her the urgency of my order earlier on...
After this experience, my suggestion to anyone choosing to deal with Batteries Direct would be only to deal with them if you can go to their store in person. They do have excellent products and I have had one conversation with a staff member who was very knowledgeable and helpful.
Luckily for me I was able to cancel my order and save myself loss of time and money.
Ironically, after my frustration with Batteries Direct causing me 6 days of frustration, I was able to contact the manufacturer of the products I wanted who provided me exactly what I wanted, with express shipping and dispatched that very same day...

by courier on the third day after ordering. I was very impressed with the delivery time, freight charge and that insurance cover was offered at a minimal additional charge. Would I buy any future batteries for my car and/or motorcycle online. Most definitely.....YES and and from my first experience I would most certainly buy them from Batteries Direct. Thank you team
Completely incompetent customer service. Extremely poor communication & inventory management – Ordered and paid $156 for a car battery almost 2 weeks ago on the 02/01/2019 with express shipping and the battery is still nowhere to be found. system is very poor and their website does not mention anywhere if the item you are ordering is in stock or not. In my case the battery was not in stock as I found out much later.
So after waiting a few days with no battery arriving and no correspondence from them advising on the status, I called them up directly and was told that it was not in stock but they will follow up with the supplier and call me back with an ETA on the shipment. I never received a call back.
So I call back the next day and they tell me that the battery was ordered from the supplier on 07/01/2019 which was 5 days after I had originally placed my order. Still I don't receive a firm ETA of the battery.
I was then sent an email stating that they were sent the wrong battery with the wrong polarity from the supplier. In fact, the battery they had ordered from the supplier was not even the battery I had ordered from them to begin with.
I called them again they tell me that the battery I had ordered is on the way and should be delivered by Wednesday (a week after the order had been placed).
Wednesday comes and goes, yet no battery in sight.
Thursday comes, still no battery, so I call to follow up and again I get told that they will check with the supplier and call me back on the status of the delivery. Again, never received a call back.
Friday comes around and I'm extremely fed up and frustrated by this point with not being able use my car as I had expected to receive the battery well over a week by now and all the while I keep get given the runaround by their sales department.
I call them up again today and ask for the status of my order and again they tell me there's been a delay and that they expect the shipment from their supplier will be coming by the following Monday! This was getting ridiculous and unacceptable, I couldn't wait another 3 days without the use of my car so I ask for a full refund so that I could go and buy a battery elsewhere. Hearing this, they said they can offer me a couple of alternative batteries which they have in stock and will email me the details for them. So in a last ditch effort to get some sort of resolve from all this, I said I'll take a look at their alternative batteries.
The email they sent were of 2 batteries which are not at all like what I had ordered, with completely different terminal sizes, not to mention of inferior quality with much shorter warranty periods. So I emailed them back and advised that the batteries offered are not compatible for my car and not what required, however I did my own research on their website and suggested another battery which would work and was happy to proceed with that one if they had them in stock. They called me back and advised that they do have them in stock, however, they are more expensive but they are willing to offer it at a discounted price of $168 including shipping, which I accepted and agreed to pay the difference of $12. I was hurried into giving them my credit card details to pay for the difference so they can ship it to me straight away as she told me the delivery driver was waiting.
Anyways, so finally I thought we had come to a resolution and I was finally going to get a battery for my car. As it turned out, it was too good to be true, as just 2 minutes later she calls me back up and tells me that they can't offer it for $168 as just had been offered 2 minutes ago and that I would have to pay an extra $22 now!
It's incredible how quick they are at calling you back to ask for more money from you but when it comes to them calling you back for an update on the status of your delivery it never happens, let alone delivering the item you have ordered and fully paid for!
That was the straw that broke the camel's back! By this point I was sick of being spoken to rudely, constantly lied to and being given the runaround on some many occasions that I simply had enough. So based on the principle of the matter I just demanded a full refund. Not surprisingly, I also had to follow up my refund with them twice; once via phone call and once via PayPal directly, before they eventually issued the refund to my PayPal account.
Another major point I would like to make here is that the sales person I spoke to was also extremely rude over the phone even though it was I, the customer, who had been wronged time and time again. Not only was she rude, pushy, and a liar. She also passed all the blame of miscommunication and errors made onto other sales members even though all the emails and incorrect battery information was sent to me by her alone.
If the management at Batteries Direct ever do read this perhaps you need to have a word with her about an attitude adjustment and also some further education on the batteries you sell (you all know who she is).
Not once was I ever offered an apology for the headache and inconvenience this entire debacle had caused and she was completely indifferent towards my poor customer experience and couldn't care less.
Throughout the entire ordeal I had been more than patient and reasonable but there is only so much a person can and should be made to endure. Customer service goes a long way and it was very much lacking here.
Never doing business with Batteries Direct ever again and I would strongly advise against anyone else from doing so either. There are plenty of other more reputable battery stores around.
I've learned my lesson the hard way so you don't have to.
Do NOT trust their online battery recommendations – Their website provided a battery recommendation for my vehicle, which I trusted and ordered. amps! When I raised the issue, their staff recommended a different (and more expensive) battery, and only offered a refund for the battery itself, and no consideration of the sizeable cost of return shipping and original shipping. I complained to Consumer Affairs - if they had provided that advice in any other format, email, over the phone, etc - they'd be breaking the law - but somehow the website gets away with it. So I'm out of pocket $46 plus time wasted, and still no battery, because they didn't take due care with the information they provided on their website (and because I didn't double check their expert advice, I guess? Bah). Worse: the wrong battery recommendation is *still* on their website a month later! I can't speak to the quality of their batteries, but I would never buy from them again because they take no responsibility for the information they provide. Trust = 0.
They charge an extra $5 handling fee for orders under $10! – Title says it all. Scandalous... An $8 dollar item turns into $18 - $5 shipping + $5 handling. What a joke.
Bad Stock management and no procedure to follow up with customers! – Very bad online experience. Ordered a battery with express shipping. Nothing arrived in 6 days.
