Well-made Bodum Burr Electric Coffee Grinder – bought this Swiss-made burr Coffee online from their Australian website for AU$95.75. This Bodum is a basic coffee grinder, but with an upmarket conical burr grinder, which allows for a fine, tasty Espresso-style coffee. The hopper can take up to 250gm of beans. The grind can be set between coarse and fine and the grinding time up to 20… Read more

seconds, before it automatically stops.

I have it set for slightly before “fine” and at 15 seconds.

I have had the grinder for about a month, and it has been going well. And was well worth the outlay

Customer Service Centre not really helpful to easily send back faulty product. My opinion better to buy in any shop.Online return very difficult to communicate and a return procedure. This for me is a very expensive lessons because customer service makes a return difficult.

Quit after a little more than a year! – The first Bodum I had lasted more than 20 years, evidently the quality has dropped dramatically. Machine didn't even make it for two years. The last 3 months of usage I could only get a coarse grind. Definitely would not buy again. Show details

Lasted 5 Months – Buyer beware. Stopped working after barely any use. When I purchase anything, I expect it to last a reasonable amount of time. This product is a waste of money, and is clearly designed to end up in landfill within 12 months. Disappointed. Show details

Very disappointed – It lasted 4 months! At first it produced reasonable grounds and I maintained it as directed but the motor started making strange noises and stopped grinding. Trying to contact Bodum Australia but so far only recorded message. Will probably cut my losses and bin it! Show details

timer is not good for me but otherwise good so far – I purchased the model with a timer on recommendation of a friend. Have used the unit for a few weeks now . The unit will not start until you turn it past the 5 second mark . The shortest time mine will go for is about 6-7 seconds. this is more than twice the time i need for one cup french press coffee. Excellent grinder now - superb customer backup from manufacturer – I received my new grinder and found that the hopper would not turn to adjust fineness of the grind. I phoned the customer service centre and my problem was fixed on the spot. Very impressive! I was delighted to find that I now have a perfect machine that produces a very fine espresso grind. Show details

Perfect for newbies! – I’ve just started drinking black coffee and bought this to go with my bodum shower head batch brewer. Grinds consistently every time. You can easily change the bring size to suit plungers, pourovers, drip machines or espresso. Less statick on the container makes it easy to scoop your grinds out. My coffee is always delicious and I’m so happy with this machine. I no longer buy coffee from cafes and am saving heaps.  Show details

Cheap internals – This machine not only grinds coffee, it grinds out it's own gears then fails. Looks great, great name, designed in Switzerland, BUT, made in China. It's about to go in the bin. Thanks for nothing Bodum! Last Bodum product in my life. Thank you Product Review for giving the consumer a place to warn others about poorly designed and made, environmentally damaging, crap products.  Show details

Good gear – Despite other adverse comments written about this coffee grinder, I have found it efficient and reliable. It is moderately priced but performs very well. As such, in my experience, it constitutes good value for money. Bodum has a good reputation for tea and coffee making devices and this adds to their armamentarium.  Show details

Not fine enough – Probably okay for percolator grinds, but when it comes to french press the finest setting simply isn't fine enough. You have to tamp the hell out of the grain to slow the flow, which makes more issues with texture abdominal flavour. ... this grinder just doesn't do what you ask of it.  Show details

No more Bodum for me – My white coffee grinder needed cleaning. The grinding is okay - as expected. I contacted Bodum to ask what I can clean it with and they told me they had issues with the discolouration and difficulty cleaning with some items as you can't use cleaning products on it. A could care less attitude - no assistance and no interest. Terrible customer service. Never buying Bodum again.  Show details

Never Worked! – Purchased on-line and was eager to burr grind our first French Press serving of coffee. When the unit did not turn on, I assumed it was operator error. has a faulty switch ... I found out too late. For the price, it should at least turn on!

We returned it and opted for a manual grinder, at a much reduced price.

Sticky mess – Im glad these have apparently been discontinued. It's a very funky looking grinder, which was good but very messy - I ended up with grinds missing the jar and falling out later when it got bumped. After 12 months of light use the plastic started to deteriorate really badly, and now it is just awful to handle. My hands stick to it and are left with a horrible residue.  Show details

Grind not fine enough for espresso machine – Looked great but very messy and quite noisy when grinding. Our first only lasted 2 weeks then stopped working. Worst coffee grinder we have ever had – We love our freshly ground coffee and in the past have had 2 delonghi ones and a couple of cheaper brands which have all lasted over 5 years each. bad. It doesn't all end up in the container with the lid underneath it shoots all over the place. It is ok doing larger grinds but we like filter and plunger and like it fine - useless for that. Would never buy another one of these or recommend it to anyone.

Works well for me – I've had this coffee grinder for a couple of years now, but only rarely used it up until a few months ago, so I can't comment on it's longevity of service. What I can tell you is it grinds perfectly well for me. One must take note, as stated in the manual, that this model should not be operated continuously for more than 60 seconds, as it will… Read more

cause overheating of the motor. (Can you believe that!) After 60 seconds you must leave it for another 60 seconds to cool down and you can go again. Nonetheless, this works out OK for me as my grinding requirement is about three bursts of 20 seconds, and the grind is perfect for drip coffee machines. For an espresso, which I sometimes have, you need to grind a little longer, and you do have to brush out the remaining coffee that gets stuck, because more of the oil content comes out with the extra grinding, but it only takes a few seconds to do, so all is just fine. I recommend this product, especially if you use if for drip or plunger extraction.

Absolute RUBBISH... You may as well just throw your money away!!! – Saw the grinder at a friends place and bought the same... Shortly after they asked if we had bought one and advised that after just over 12 months of light use... theirs had died! Just over 12 months of very light domestic use ours has also died... OVERPRICED RUBBISH! Buy anything else!

will not last long – Summary: The burrs (the coffee grinding teeth) and the overall design of the grinder are good. However, everything is let down by cheap plastic internals that are not designed to last. As a German engineer I am upset how the saving of some dollars renders the entire machine to be much less as it could be. Details: I used this grinder on… Read more

daily basis for 2 years now. It was nice, but started to struggle to grind; later even without coffee in it. I took it apart to investigate. I found the motor to be just fine. But the gearing was worn. In my opinion it is a design fault; the combination of gear geometry, sizing and materials seems to be less than ideal. My attempt to rescue the grinder by greasing everything up only helped for another 4 months. Then my little friend struggled again and I gave up. I might throw it away ... or rebuild it completely.

Big Regrets – I bought a Bistro based on reviews I read here, particularly attracted to one report of no clogging, which my old sunbeam often did. While the machine is incredibly easy to use, on all other counts it is hopeless. It won't grind fine enough to work with my domestic espresso machine and clogs after pretty much every grind. I don't know if I got a dude but these are so uncomplicated I can't see how.

Pretty on your kitchen counter but has it's problems – I've had my Bodum Bistro grinder for about 15 months now. When it worked, it was pretty awesome. However it started having problems from month 9 onwards - the little start/stop button sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I found that I had to clean the grinder from beans that seem to jam the motor up (or maybe it's just me) before it started… Read more

working again, and even then intermittently. I guess you get what you pay for, considering it's an affordable home-use grinder but surely it should last for at least 2-3 years without issue. For a brand well-known for it's coffee/tea plungers and knick-knacks, this one kinda slides down the "almost fail" list...

Excellent coffee; easy to clean – There are lots of grinder settings but we use the same one all the time so leave the setting there. There are lots of alternatives. The ground coffee doesn't stick to the containers much at all: it was a terrible job to clean our last (broken) grinder. This one is so superior and well worth the extra price. We got a good discount at Kitchenware Direct. It's also much quieter than our last grinder and doesn't jump about on the counter.

Nice design but bad quality product – This is a nice looking grinder and it appears to be well made to. I used this grinder for about a year on a daily basis for my LaCImbali espresso machine. Excellent for plunger coffee – I've had my red Bodum Bistro for about 4 months now. It's consistently delivered the right grind for my plunger coffee each morning. of sludge in the bottom of my cup in order to get it faster.

I use the maximum 20 seconds and that grinds just enough beans for a large plunger. I usually give it a clean out every few grinds, and in between times just 'bang' it a bit to get the dust out and then wipe it off. Doesn't seem to harm it.

It's also not quite as noisy as other grinders, if I shut the pantry door nobody complains that I woke them up. Consistent, good quality grinds, less noisy than other grinders.

Consistent grid but not fine enough. Also died after 15 months of light use – Functionally this grinder is great, I like the time based grinding as it allowed to get the same amount of coffee time after time. Experience after some use – I agree with previous reviews about the consistently ground coffee, but after steady use for over a year there must be a fault below the grinding position, because a percentage of the coffee grounds always drop through the base of the machine onto the bench beneath it. If I then gently bang the base onto the bench even more grounds fall through. … Read more

easy to use – Just bought this grinder and am very impressed. I found it easy to use and because the container for the coffee grounds is glass there was no static and so no mess. Bodum Bistro Coffee Grinder – An excellent grinder. At first I was looking at more expensive and larger units as I was apprehensive that this would not be able to grind fine enough for my espresso machine.
