It’s a lemon – Very poor machine . Take hours to dry . Sheets get all tangled . Purchased in 2018 . The machine has had a relatively easy life , used once or twice a week on average. I have had 10 visits from repair technicians over the 5 years. This was supposed to be a superior product . It was expensive. One technician even tried to tell me it was my fault… Read more

the dryer was not drying clothes . What happened Bosch ? Your reputation as a high quality producer of appliances is trashed . I notice your close to 2 billion profit is still healthy .

The single worst purchase in my lifetime. And I'm old – I bought this unit from Appliances Online in 2016 for around $1700. I had read that it used less electricity and didn't steam up your house. As I also owned a tumble dryer that cost me around $500. I got to compare these not just from observing but measuring using wattage meters and direct apples to apples comparison. The Bosch dryer doesn't… Read more

handle large things such as sheets as it has no way of revering the drum, so all large items quickly end up in a spiralling bundle. If you have other items in with the large items, they get trapped. So nothing gets dry. Does that mean that it's okay for small things? Unfortunately no. When the unit is brand new, it uses around 1100 watts over a period around 2.6 to 3.5 times as long as that taken with my $500 "normal" tumble dryer. The normal tumble dryer uses 2400 watts. So, even when brand new, the Bosch dryer actually uses more power to dry the same load. As it ages, the Bosch unit becomes less and less able to remove moisture.

Next I'll take on the emissions. It's true that not so much water ends up near the dryer, unless you spill the water tray when you empty it after each and ever load. Oh, and if you are doing a large load, unless you empty the water tray after 2 hours, it will stop drying (but keep running and using electricity). However as the unit ages, it emits a smell that is unpleasant and seems to increase over time. I ended up putting this dryer in a seperate room while the normal cheaper dryer is in my lounge. Yes, it emits water vapour but its cleaner smelling and either opening windows or keeping the aircon running takes care of the increased humidity.

Next comes effective drying capacity. I found that virtually nothing gets as dry as using the cheaper dryer. This isn't a close race. Not at all. After a couple of years, you notice that the time to dry gets longer and longer. Even setting it to manual timing, leaving it run for many hours and it still doesn't get clothes dry. I paid hundreds of dollars for a Bosch service person to try to fix and he cleaned the "self cleaning" condenser. It was marginally better but still completely unacceptable. I've bought another $500 normal tumble dryer since and when that gives up, I'll get another. I will never buy a condenser type tumble dryer ever again. I have owned other Bosch equipment and it's been okay. Things like battery drills and battery saws.

Paying huge sums of money sometimes pays off, like I paid $5500 for a new super king size bed and bedding some years back. Warranty of 15 years. Absolutely love it. But money spent on this Bosch dryer is all wasted, even from day one as it never costs you less in electricity, doesn't do the job (dry bedding) and before you know it you'll be forced to pay at the recycle centre to get rid of it. At the moment it's unplugged beside the washing machine used strictly as a table surface for unloading clothes as they go from washing machine to the $500 dryer in the lounge or outside to the clothes line.

The Bosch unit may be suitable for people that don't mind paying out $1700 for a new unit each year and really have no way of dealing with humid air emitted from a cheaper dryer, all while paying more for electricity. Also, if you use sheets as bedding then you'll need some other dryer as well. You see the problem? This dryer is a total waste of money.

Update 28th June 2024: After not using this dryer for years due to its incredibly slow and inadequate drying, I recently installed a solar P.V. system and decided to give this dryer another go, using free electricity from the sun. Incredibly, when I measured the current that this unit draws, it varied from 800 watts to 3100 watts!! For those that are not electricians here, the maximum draw allowable on a normal power point in Australia is 2400 watts. Anything over that is definitely a risk as can lead to damage and even house fires. This particular unit is supposed to draw a maximum of 1000 watts. As I've only just now measured the current draw, I can only assume that it has been drawning this much since the drying issue commenced, around start of 2018. I spoke to Bosch about this, assuming that Bosch would be keenly interested in determining the cause and then finding out how many other units may have this safety issue. But Bosch wanted me to pay a technician to do this, I said no way, not again. I already paid Bosch to fix the unit in 2021 and that made virtually no difference. I'll update this review again after talking to the A.C.C.C. Hopefully this will lead to a recall for all those affected similarly. Meanwhile, if you know of anyone with a Bosch condenser type dryer, make sure you get them to measure the maximum current draw, particularly if the unit is not drying well. Anything higher than the marked maximum for the unit should be brought up with Bosch or failing this, the A.C.C.C if it's over 2400 watts.

Don’t waste your money – For a very expensive dryer, you’d expect it would actually dry your clothes right? Wrong, even on cupboard dry extra, the clothes still come out damp. It takes over 3 hours to almost dry a load so this negates the high energy rating and makes staying on top of a family of laundry very difficult. Finally, it doesn’t reverse spin so all clothes come… Read more

out tangled and creased, don’t even bother trying to put bed sheets in it, they’ll come out wet and twisted up so hard that you’ll spend longer untangling it than a regular dryer would drying it. Also, the water drain feature doesn’t work so you constantly have to drain the reservoir manually. Complete trash, I have no idea how some people have given this machine a good review.

Amazing Dryer - gentle and economical – I purchased my Bosch Home Professional dryer 5 years ago and it has never skipped a beat. It gets a pretty hard workout and is so gentle on clothes, I have been known to dry delicate silk in the dryer. I can fit king-sized sheets or a thin King quilt, no problems. We have found it to be very economical and have recommended to friends and family. One of the best bits is that there is no moisture/humidity or fluff in the air during use.  Show details

Lasted 5 years – I bought this dryer about 5 years ago to replace a cheap dryer. Having 2 young kids means the dryer gets a good workout. Yesterday it stopped working and I noticed a shirt jammed in-between the drum and the dryer body and it was no longer spinning the drum. Suspecting a broken drive belt, I removed the side cover to check. Yep, drive belt was… Read more

broken as expected. I also found that the drum was broken in multiple places which is why the shirt got stuck in the first place. She's cactus.

Perfect solution to lint free laundry – How i love doing laundry! Clothes come out in perfect condition without dog hair. I did not need to plumb for drainage of the water storage as i simply empty it during cycle; likewise with the lint filters. I mainly use manual setting with heat resulting in not requiring ironing, except for minimal pressing for work shirts. Laundry room does not steam up much. Show details ·  1

No more Damp walls – Anything that goes in the Washing Machine is placed in Dryer. This products performance is outstanding. Different settings puts me in control love how it also senses when the clothes are dry and turns off. Delayed start is great can set and forget. The only item I don’t place in dryer are Woolens. Love the fact there is no moisture on walls very efficient. Show details ·  1

Best dryer ever! – I love that the programs actually work as they should. Put a load in for 60min and after 60min, the load is actually dry! No need to add extra time. Which also makes this machine faster and therefore more efficient than my previous machine. The high star rating is well deserved. This dryer is the quietest I've ever used, leaves the room… Read more ·  1

warmish and totally dry but not overly hot like a condenser dryer and certainly not wet a regular dryer that requires venting.

We were hesitant with the price but after just a month of use so far I'm very glad we went with it.

Still waiting on an electricity bill since running this machine - we are heavy users of a dryer so expecting good results with the high star rating.

Have yet to come across any negatives for this machine.

What a disappointment – This very expensive dryer doesn't compare well to the old mid-range one it was intended to replace. Like other reviewers of the dryers in this range I couldn't believe that the Bosch didn't reverse tumble. At first I thought it must be a fault but getting on the internet I see loads of other people complaining about it. Another thing it… Read more

doesn't do is "cool down" at the end of the cycle. I find that even plucked straight from the machine as soon as it beeps and before the no-crease cycle kicks in my t-shirts are too wrinkled to just fold and put away without ironing ... a problem I never had with the older machine. Most dryers turn the heat off before the cycle is finished and tumble for a while to remove the heat from the clothes and this seems to reduce wrinkles. I can't see any reason why a condenser dryer couldn't do this as well.

Another thing is that the huge door is set so low that you can't get a standard laundry basket under it so you can't drop the basket in front in advance then open the door. You have to put the basket somewhere else, open the door, move the basket under the door.

The start button seems strangely un-tactile... I keep having to press it twice because the first time it doesn't register. In fact all the controls feel a bit cheap for a machine at the top of the range. It's even a bit squeaky when it starts up... that does disappear pretty quick but makes me worry all the same.

To be fair I should say something positive. It does generate less lint so this would imply that your clothes would last longer since they are probably getting less harsh treatment. And it's nice not to have to muck around with exhaust hoses (though you can get other condensers for way less money).

Even though I gave myself a couple of months to get used to it, basically I find myself just going back to the old dryer with this new one sitting in the corner, an expensive white(ware) elephant. Save your money and buy something for a grand less and make sure you go into a shop first and handle it and work the controls to see how you like it even if you end up buying online.

Poor design, Unreliable. Same problems as WTY88700AU – First of all, this is probably the same machine as the WTY88700AU. A cynical person would say that when the negative reviews here and elsewhere started to build up, they changed the 00 to an 01 so google searches wouldn't find all the dirt. Whether that's literally the case or not, all of the problems people have experienced with the WTY88700AU… Read more

are present in the WTY88701AU.

I bought this on the strength of Bosch's reputation, and I'm very sorry I did.

One immediately notices that the dryer doesn't reverse tumble to untangle the clothes. Sheets especially will ball up. Second, the filter top, even properly seated, juts out so that the edges of the load constantly rub across its perforated surface and small items like socks get hung up for long periods of time. I've only had the dryer a couple of days but I'm certain that sooner or later a pocket or a trouser cuff is going to catch and stretch or tear, especially when still very damp and more "grabby". My old dryer, which cost a third of the Bosch reversed every 10 minutes or so and had a recessed lint filter that the clothes never touched.

And speaking of the filters, now I have two large ones that have to be rinsed (swiping your hand across doesn't work - because of the fineness of the mesh you just push the lint further in). I only have a hot water tap free (cold is attached to the washer) so there go my energy savings from the heat pump technology. Then you've got to shake them out and air dry them before you put them back in, so you can't do another load straight after. If you put them in wet it'll be an "out" for the retailer on a warranty claim. My old dryer I moistened my right hand fingers with a few drops of water (as opposed to litres for a thorough rinse of two filters), plucked the filter out with my left hand, flicked it open, wiped twice with my right hand, dropped the lint in the bin and replaced the filter still in my left hand - all in one practiced motion that took about three seconds. I did that for 10 years after every load, no trouble (it was the drum spindle that failed).

Then there's the end of cycle signal. Reading the manual (did I say manual? More like fold out pamphlet) I was initially delighted to see it had several loudness settings. Less delighted to find that in practice they ranged from virtually inaudible to just detectable if you are in the adjacent room. And at the highest loudness level, despite the pathetic volume the tone becomes buzzy and distorted. My old dryer had a clear loud beep five times at the end of cycle and then again after every anti-crease rotation. This was great if I couldn't deal with it immediately - I would be reminded every 10 minutes no matter where I was in the house or yard.

And the anti-crease is where we finally get to the main issue. After two loads it went AWOL. It still shows as set to 60 minutes, but at end of cycle you just get reminded to remove the washing, and then again the same reminder (tone, LCD display) a few times until it switches itself off after 15 minutes, with no drum movement at all during that time. The dryer only took two days to start failing.

By the way, Bosch doesn't make its dryers in Germany any more - they are built in Eastern Europe to save labour costs. And it shows.

Best Dryer Ever!!!...just do it :) – We purchased this dryer (WTY88701AU) a few months ago, after our very old F&P died after 10 years. Well I have been super happy with the choice of the new Bosch Dryer, it is very quiet and no condensation what so ever in the laundry now. The clothes come out lovely and dry, fluffy & warm. I have tried a few of the settings so far, including… Read more ·  1

towels, mixed load, cottons & blankets. I really like how easy it is to operate and how lovely it looks too! There is a nice light inside so you can see when taking clothes in & out of the drum. I also like the look of the "face" and the finished soul it makes - plus it keeps the little beep to remind you that it has finished too!

I am now trying to convince my husband to purchase the matching washing machine, as I love this dryer so much I want the matching washing machine too!

Highly recommended so far :)
