Are the blender blades sharp enough to crush ice?
Hi Bethf, Thanks for your question regarding MCM4100AU / MCM4200AU food processors. After checking the user manuals, there is no mention of it being used for crushing ice so I would have to say we would not recommend it for this purpose.

I'm thinking of buying one of these but I notice the blades are plastic instead of stainless steel? Are they brittle or easily broken as I have never used plastic blades before?
This model has both plastic and stainless steel blades. The stainless steel blade has a plastic central piece which seems very robust, mine has never broken or chipped and isn't brittle.
The plastic blade is for use with dough.
Ok thank you, I'm gonna order one today
Hi vyonne57 , Thanks for your question regarding the Bosch MCM4200AU Food Processor. The Universal chopping blade and the blade inserts for the food processor are stainless steel, It is only the whisking disk and the kneading hook that are plastic these are durable and should not break under normal usage conditions.

Have just purchased this unit and am trying to use the dough blade....this machine is making me crazy!!!! How do I stop the dough blade from popping up all the time whilst it's in use. It does this every thirty seconds, causing me to stop the machine empty and scrape bowl contents, put attachment back on, re-add the ingredients and press go - only to have it happen in another 30 seconds....are you able to offer any insight? Regards
I'm probably no help as I've never used the plastic dough blade, I only use the metal one for pastry dough. Any other dough such as bread or pizza, I use my KitchenAid. What sort of dough are you making?
Consider the volume of dough in the unit, is there enough flour and water etc so its not a hard lump and can be kneaded and mix correctly and evenly as it sounds like it is too dry or heavy based on its recipe not the unit and its mixer attachment.
What is the difference between the 2. There is a big difference in the price?
I think the only difference is the 4100 doesn't have a juice extractor or french fry disc. If you don't need these then this model would be fine. Not sure of any other differences. The Bosch website lists all the accessories for both, which is how I compared both models.
From my reading, the 4200 has a stepless variable speed motor while the 4100 has set speeds.
