Breville Set & Serve BRC200

Great value for money – I bought the rice cooker today and couldn't wait to try it. It is certainly very easy to use, no-brainer really. The elements are easy to clean and for 3 cups of rice it took about 15 minutes from set to go. I may need to experiment with the quantities of water, as the rice was well cooked but quite dry - I followed the user manual, but think I'll put some more water in next time. There was some rice stuck to the bottom of the pan, but definitely nothing browned or burnt - it lifted easily and the rice separated nicely after being turned over few times with the plastic spoon. My first impression is quite positive and if I can get the rice to be moister then I'd say this is a great little rice cooker. Easy to use, no mess, excellent value After one use my only concern is that the rice was quite dry, but hopefully this will be rectified by adding some more water.
Cooks well but major design flaw – I cannot complain about the cooking, i think cooks to perfection. However on washing the lid, the water gets stuck under the handle and you need to unscrew with a screwdriver each time and dry out 4 pieces. Very tedious. Show details
I Will Never Buy Another Breville Product – This product is awful, the rice sticks to the non-stick surface and on the keep warm function, the rice ends up so dried out that it becomes like a flat disc of rice. Therefore this product can not actually perform either of the functions that it is meant to do. I nicely messaged Breville to explain the trouble that we were having and they… Read more
totally blew me off, the only help that they offered was to tell me to wash my rice before I cooked it (I was already doing that). So sorry Breville, customer service means everything to me and so you have lost me as a customer.
PILE OF RUBBISH, ON 3RD REPLACEMENT – On my 3rd replacement in 4 months or so. Same issue every time, will not turn on after about 6 uses. Worked prettty crappy when working, rice tends to stick (i suspect because "keep warm" function is too hot). Most recent replacement hand delivered by Breville, lasted a week. I use a gram scale and a mill jug, to ensure corrct amounts, still… Read more
overcooks and gluggifyies my rice.
taking this one back, getting a crdit, buying anything else.
I could easily pull it apart, ad fix the issue, but that is not my job, and is an obvipoous design fault, and would destroy my warrenty.
Good Guys have been excellent in replacing.

Works great using some handy tips! – Been using it for about 18 months now and am very happy with it. Had a few problems to start with, rice sticking to bottom, burnt rice when using "keep warm" function, etc., the usual complaints in the other reviews but have got it all sorted now and have been using it successfully for about 18 months. Use the following tips and I'm sure you'll… Read more
find it works great.
1) Using the cup provided, basically just add an extra 1/2 a cup of water to every cup of rice you are cooking, eg., 2 cups of rice need 3 cups of water. Have only ever done 3 cups of rice so not sure what happens after that.
2) DO NOT lift lid while it is in the cooking process like I have read in some reviews.
3) Most important is when the rice cooker has clicked to indicate rice is ready, remove bowl from cooker using oven mitts and place on a heat proof surface and allow to sit for a few minutes. Do not remove lid while it is sitting there. The rice really stays quite hot for quite a while.
When ready to serve, remove lid and using plastic spoon provided gently scrape bottom of rice bowl loosening the rice on the bottom. Rice is not really stuck to bottom, just a little compacted.
The rice comes out perfect every time using the above method, enjoy!
Very good - but far from perfect – We make quite a lot of cooked brown rice (mixed with vegetables) for our seven dogs. We used to use a slow cooker - but the bowl cracked when one of them knocked it over. So we went searching for a dedicated rice cooker and found this one. We routinely use 4 x standard cup measurements of brown rice then fill it with water to the Max. fluid… Read more
mark. The unit has plenty of punch and soon has it boiling.
You do need to keep an eye on things; because the rice can dry out quite quickly (at least on brown rice). If it does dry out - I have found that even though it has a non stick inner bowl it will stick and start to brown off. To date I have not cooked white rice. I have tried rinsing the rice well with water - prior to cooking - but it makes no noticeable difference.
The unit comes with a VERY small plastic spoon for stirring - but because it's so short; it's almost useless for anything except maybe for steaming (and stirring) vegetables. You would be better off using a longer wooden or plastic spoon; which will give you more leverage.
In short - it works for us and was very good value.
Rice always sticks to the bottom! Have tried every method advocated with no success – I bought this rice cooker following a good review by Choice. I have a Thermomix but wanted a separate rice cooker as I cook a lot of rice and had a Toshiba rice cooker for 6 years previous to this. The Toshiba metal opener had slowly peeled away so I had to get rid of it. So following reviews in Choice this cooker had a great review and a good… Read more
price ( I had paid over $100 for the Toshiba one ). Unbelievable the rice sticks to the bottom despite everything I have done. I soak the rice. I have left lid on, I have used oil on the bottom of the rice cooker, I have taken the lid off, I have used extra water. I have soaked the rice for a longer period. Nothing stops the rice sticking to the bottom. Never experienced this issue before. Have used maximum 10 times and tried all above and gone back to using my Thermomix. Rice Cooker sitting in original packaging in my cupboard. Hope this is just a lemon product. I have had great experience with Breville products before. Can anyone suggest a good Breville rice cooker happy to pay more for it but one where rice does not stick to the bottom every single time. Purchased from The Good Guys in August 2016.

Easy to use rice-cooker – Beautiful, simple rice cooker. Works well, haven't had any bad experiences. Some rice sticks to the bottom of the rice cooker however this is easily amended by removing the rice from the rice cooker immediately after it cooks and adding more water. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for a rice cooker. Show details
Great rice cooker – This rice cooker is great, and so easy to use. You just set it and go. It also automatically switches to a keep warm setting when it's done cooking. I would say it's a bit slower than cooking rice on a stove, and occasionally bubbles up under the lid if the measurements aren't spot on, but otherwise it's a nice product. Show details
Love this rice cooker – This rice cooker replaced a Kmart branded one! It is great. Just pop in equal amounts of rice and water, stir once and done. It has instructions to make the rice soft and fluffy and that is how it comes out! The added steamer basket is particularly helpful! We just turn it on and leave it! Very pleased with the purchase! It's handy and temperamental – I wanted something small and this is perfect, the only problem is, there is a lot of juggling around until you get it right, the right amount of water, the cooking time and leaving it in there when done, if you leave it for too long it will all glue together and this has been happening mainly if cooking too long, also there is an issue with the… Read more
steamer if you want to check it while cooking have an oven glove on first, I am not 100% happy with this product!
Good Product – The products is not expensive at all. I must say it is very easy to use, no complicated buttons. It comes with free rice spoon and a steamer. It has a non stick plate cooker. Show details
Worst breville product I have ever bought – I have bought lots of breville product and it has always been good but this product is absolutely bizarre.. how could they sell such a product.... breville has to do something about this product... used for a week ..every time it sticks .. it's the sticker ricer cooker . Do something about this. Show details

A+ very happy – Purchased this rice cooker probably 2 years ago. Have never had any significant problems with it, cooks well, easy to use.. Surprised by the negative comments. The only issue I have encountered recently after a lot of use is that it's no longer non stick.. But this is easily solved by soaking the pan for a few minutes. Show details
Breville have a cheek selling this! – I have tried to cook rice three times in the rice cooker and every time it sticks! I've tried brown rice, white rice and Basmati rice with the same outcome. I even added extra water the last time to see if that helps but no it still stuck. How they can keep on selling this product when almost all the reviews point to there being a fault with it I don't understand. Come on Breville a recall is required! Show details
Not what I expected – I read some reviews before I bought this product and naively assumed that perhaps the people who wrote them were not using the product correctly. Nope. The rice sticks and burns every time, without fail, despite following the directions exactly. Every appliance I own is Breville, but when I replace this I will be looking elsewhere. Breville do not produce the quality of appliance that I thought they did.
If I didn't buy this on clearance, I would take it back. At least the fact that it was on clearance indicates Breville have done away with it and perhaps come out with a better product that actually works.
*edit, I have changed my method for washing starch off rice and gotten better results... Using A LOT of water washing the rice though and all in all don't find it efficient.
Sticks – I put my rice cooker away for 12 months because it always sticks and boils dry. Saw it in the back of the cupboard and decided to try again. Dismal failure. Show details
Bad quality cooker and trips circuit right after 12 month warranty is over. Won't buy another Brevil – -steam and water somehow overflows through the lid just about everytime. -need to manually turn off or rice will stick to bottom if auto-turnoff. -trips circuit right after 12 month warranty period is over. - my last National Rice cooker lasts over 20 years and still going strong until i had to give it away. Won't buy another Breville product. Show details
Rubbish – Looked at reviews before purchase they must have all been written by Breville share holders.Followed directions and cooked rice and low and behold it catches on bottom every time without fail .Good on you Breville for bringing yet another bad product out. Still only paid $25 for it so it not the end of the world but the end of Breville in my… Read more

May 2nd 2017 Update: Rubbish you have to add more rice to get amount of rice you want.
Do not buy save money and burn rice some other way cheaper. This is nothing more than an uncontrolled electrical
device. This will only cost you the money you have paid for the cooker but also time cleaning out rice stuck to the bottom of (wait for it ) non stick surface.
Absolutely shocking rice cooker – I've had this rice cooker for over a year and have "never" been able to successfully cook rice without burning rice on the bottom every-single-time. The only way to avoid burning the rice is to turn the cooker off 5 to 10 mins before it's boiled all the water out. This kind of defeats the purpose of the cooker plus you get soggy rice. I used to… Read more
have a Breville Rice Cooker that lasted over 12 years until the teflon base started to wear out - it worked perfectly, I absolutely loved it. However the Breville BRC200 is just a shocker.
What a dud! – **Review about Platinum BRC200S** By far the worse rice cooker. I have not been able to cook rice without burning/sticking from day 1. There is no way to avoid the bad outcome, tried everything already (rinsing rice, water temperature, add oil, etc.) Have had far better results with a $20 rice cooker. I wish Breville could admit this is a pure dud and replace the bad ones!!! Clearly they have built something wrong.

Stuck with a Dud – Finally bought a bigger rice cooker to do our one pot risotto. Our previous Sunbeam sputtered out of the vent on the lid. This was easily managed putting a piece of paper towel through the handle and it rested just over the hole. We were both very disappointed to realise the Breville splutters from the whole lid circumference and being a larger… Read more
unit this meant it was all over the floor and benches. This was just cooking a pot of rice. The comments by others are correct the rice was stuck to the bottom which I didn't previously experience except on a prolonged warming setting. I wouldn't recommended this cooker even at the purchase price of $40. Due to the mess we haven't used it again. We will give it another try and update this if we get any better result.

Great little rice cooker – I wasn't expecting much from the mixed reviews left here. It is inexpensive, easy to clean and cooks the rice perfectly. Just follow the instructions and the rice is spot on. Love it. Don't waste money on a more expensive cooker! The only downside is the cup measurement is not metric..... Show reply
It's okay if you barely use it – despite the reviews I seen it on sale for $33 so grabbed one anyways. Like the other reviews suggest you can't cook anything without having it stick to the bottom. It's easy to unstick while cooking but none the less still an annoyance. Disappointing breville!!! Good for soups though!!! 3/5
dissapointed – Re the Breville Set & Serve bought it was really could not wait to try my new investment had used it two times with Brown & Basmati both dried out & burnt also stuck to the bottom I returned to the place of purchase, Have decided to continue cooking on my stove top.
Great rice – We've had this rice cooker for years and we use it several times a week. It cooks perfect rice and has survived everything we've thrown at it. Our bowl is dented from being dropped and all the non stick coating has long since peeled off, but it still works! I wish they made rice cooker bowls without the teflon, but now that it's done peeling and… Read more
is just gone, it's all good.
Also our lid smashed (probably the same time the bowl got dented lol) but I was super happy to discover that the lids of our saucepans fit perfectly and it still works great using them.
So basically - we have thrashed this machine and it has survived with flying colours.
Agree with all of the negative comments posted to date – My wife bought this rice cooker a year or so ago, but after trying it a couple of times put it away because cooked rice is dry sticks to bottom and burns. We had a rubbish collection this week so she brought it out to place on verge. I persuaded her to have one more go, following the instructions exactly. However, the result was the same so out it… Read more
goes. I would feel guilty putting it on Gumtree and selling it, even for a dollar. This is either a dud product or the instructions are dud.
Worst cooker ever !! – I'm so Angry right now I could get and axe and chop this rice cooker up no joke ! It's horrible ! It can cook rice it's always under cooked and dry ! U add more water and arrrgh ! Then it burns the rice and it looks good from outside but it ain't good in the inside !! Everything but looks nice
OK but not great – The rice cooker does it's job but I've used better rice cookers before (at least ones with no problems). The rice sticks to the base every time. I've been lucky enough to have only burnt my rice once or twice. I find that liquid keeps getting inside my lid which is frustrating. If I cooked rice frequently I would NOT be using this rice cooker and would invest in a better one. This is fine for occasional use only.
Dreadful – Bought from Harvey Norman with high expectations. It burns (overcooks) the rice on the base. But this is not the worst characteristic. Far worse is the fact that the rice sticks to the (supposed) "non-stick" bowl. This happened right from first use and became gradually worse over time. Now, after a year, a thick layer of rice is stuck to the… Read more
bowl after cooking.
Breville customer service said this can be minimised by rinsing the rice well before cooking. How helpful is that!
Rice sticks to bowl, burns the rice
Hopeless – I bought this rice cooker from Harvey Norman last year. I do not have the receipt. I wish I had read all the reviews on here first. This cooker is such a disappointment It has burnt the rice every time I have used it. It now sits in the cupboard looking sorry for itself The instructions were hopeless too. Nowhere did it say at what point one… Read more
switched the appliance to cook after switching on to the warm setting. The rice / water guide on page 13 had a table for cooking white rice and brown rice, but the brown rice section still had the heading UNCOOKED WHITE RICE (RICE MASTER CUPS)!!! How does that work then???
No, all in all a very unhappy customer. Don't recommend this appliance at all. Looks good in the cupboard Burns rice no matter what you do to it
so disappointed – I asked my son to buy me a rice cooker for christmas and was so happy to get what I thought was a simple appliance. I have used it 3 times and it always burns the rice. The 3rd time i made brown rice and doubled the amount of water and it bubbled out the sides of the glass lid (only 2 cups of rice) and still the rice burnt onto the bottom. I… Read more
have just checked the instructions again to see if i had missed something...no.
I thought I'd see what others are saying and it seems that everyone has had the same problem.
I am really disappointed with this product which simply fails to do what is it's only function. it's simplicity It fails to do it's only job...to cook rice.
Rice Burns, Don't Bother – Terrible cooker. I follow the instructions time and time again, cross my fingers and it always burns te bottom layer of rice or under cooks it. Water spits out of the lid every time so I think the water is evaporating out of the lid, hence the undercooked or burnt rice. As the old saying goes .... you get what you pay for. It was on sale at a… Read more
Harvey Norman store closing down for $25.00! The white colour looked nice and clean, that's about it. It just didn't cook the rice correctly - ever!
PRETTY GOOD – For cooking 4 cups of rice i have found this to do an excellent job, nice fluffy rice, no overflow, no burning or sticking. The only draw back is that rice will dry out if left on the warm setting for too long. I am not sure why all the bad reviews, did they follow the instructions. I also used the steamer for dumplings its a bit small but did a good job.
Labour intensive & a fire hazard – If you cook it following the instructions the rice is not only uncooked and dry, the bottom bowl starts to burn! I would not feel safe leaving the house while using this. I found I had to use 3 times the amount of water recommended in order to cook white rice and 6 times to cook brown rice. If you add all the extra water actually required at the… Read more
beginning it spits and spills out over the top, so you have to monitor it and keep adding water and resetting, it's more work than cooking on a stove top. No response from Breville yes they know it,s a another cheap import. So really they are just a import company for bad products that are substandard.
