13yrs and still going mostly strong – I bought my BEM410 in 2011. The first 2yrs were amazing and I even bought the cream bowl and mixer. Then I was making bread and human error - I didn’t have the right speed for the amount of dough, so there was grinding noises so turned it off. Readjusted the dough and kept going. Over time I’ve replaced the scraper once and still have the… Read more

original bowl, whisk, dough hook and ice cream bowl set up. It now wobbles on the bench when I have it above 2 or 3 so just gently rest my hand on top. It’s gone yellow over time. Every now and then there is a grinding that happens - usually when I’ve got too much biscuit mix in it and it’s struggling to mix. One day I’ll replace it, but it’s certainly not yet!

Beware scraper beater keeps breaking – I have had this machine for 6 years. It does the job, however I am now onto my 4th scraper beater. The plastic in the beater eventually cracks and usually at the worst time. I don’t beat hard butter or other items, but it makes no difference. There is a weakness in the plastic. If you buy this machine be prepared to invest in lots of replacement blades! Show details

Would not buy another Breville mixer – All attachments don't go to the bottom have to continually stop and scrape the bottom and sides to ensure all mixes in properly. Taken to putting some paper between bottom and bowl to raise the bowl to improve the mixing but still not great. Should have put my money to a better brand.

Perfect for dough and mashed potatoes – Made my life so much easier, can handle dough and makes perfect mashed potatoes, it is a lifesaver. The price tag on this is very reasonable compared to other brands like kitchenaid etc. The mixer is rather loud, maybe they have fixed the newer model, but could be because my kitchen is small. I highly recommend this product as it very versatile and has a 5 year money back guarantee.  Show details

Best machine ever – I am extremely happy with this mixer, it beats bread easily, whips and creams. I can't wait to get the ice cream attachment. I bought this item half price and had read all the reviews and was a bit nervous, but best choice I ever made. It does throw out flour and milk on the odd occasion, but generally I can't fault it! Shame it's been discontinued.  Show details

Love love love it – This is the best appliance in our house, it is efficient and easy to use and cleans well. The product is very solid and heavy, the only complaint I'd have is that it is too tall to put in a standard cupboard and therefore I had to remove a shelf in my buffet cabinet to be able to put it away. The icecream attachment is fantastic and a great add… Read more

A mixer that didn't last forever, 2-3 times to be exact – Bought the wife this highly recommended mixer late 2015, through Kitchen Warehouse Cockburn WA. She has only used it 2-3 times and then the motor started to smoke and burnt out. We couldn't believe it, paid particularly good money for this machine compared to other units, and its totally useless now. I jumped on this site to see what the general… Read more

consensus was about the machine and I was very surprised to see the common fault was smoking and burning out after short use. I'm not even going to bother chasing after warranty after reading the responses some viewers received, I'll put it down to poor product and rest assured I will never be guided to buy by an expensive Breville product again. Not surprised the unit is no longer available. I think I'll buy the wife half a dozen cheap ones so we can throw then away every 12-18 months, at least we might get , at least I'll get ten years worth of baking done hassle free, at a portion of the cost.

Promises much but disappoints – The bowl is well designed with a comfortable handle and good quality stainless steel. I don't do a lot of baking and the machine is generally adequate for my purposes but it is under powered for anyone doing a lot of baking. Today while mixing butter and sugar the scraper mixer blade broke. I now have to decide whether to buy another for $30 and risk breaking it again or chucking the machine and buying a Kitchen Aid.  Show details

Very disappointed – I was making dough, the mixer overheated and the motor burnt out. Breville gave me no help other than the repairer's number and state that the mixer has a safety cut out switch which obviously did not work. The repairer can't purchase parts from Breville as they are not available so I have to throw it out. I bought it about a year ago but lost the receipt and can't find proof of purchase.  Show details

Zero Star - Used it Once then Smoke Coming Out – I received the mixer as a gift 3 years ago but only took it out last week to use it for dough kneading. It's good when I used it the first time. However, when I tried to make the second dough, loud cracking noise starts and the hook stopped turning. I thought it's overheating, so turned it off, wait for it to cool down then restart. While, motor… Read more

noise was screaming but the hook did not want to move, smoke came out. Unfortunately, the mixer is outside the warranty and I have to pay for it to be fixed. So I called the service agent and was told the startup cost is $88 to check. It's expensive however I don't want to throw the whole machine out after ONLY 1 TIME USAGE. I was about to send it for repair. But after reading all the reviews, it appears $88 won't fix the problem. It sounds like I should buy a new one instead. Super disappointed and what a waste of money. This is the first and last Breville product I would get and would like to put down a review here to remind everyone else who is thinking of buying a Breville product.

Reliable, Very Happy with it – I bought my BEM410 stand mixer 3 years ago from Target and it has been great. It initially had a bit of a smell when it was running but this is now gone. The speeds are very good ranging from just folding the batter to a high whisk. My only comment is that on medium speed and higher the mixer will move on the bench so you have to hold it down so it doesn't run away with you.  Show details ·  1

Happy with product until it started smoking! – I've had my mixer scraper for almost a year (bought it in the Boxing Day sales last year). Have been happy with it but have only used it about 10 times. Today it started smoking and giving off a strange smell while making gingerbread. The butter had been softened. Luckiky it stopped and showed an E2 message.  Show details

Terrible piece of equipment – This is a terrible piece if equipment. My wife bought it at Target Carindale QLD. 18 months later the motor suddenly jammed, it was mixing butter and sugar, the motor has a 5 year warranty. Target didn't want to know us. Scraper part - Rubbish!! – I bought the Scraper Mixer 16 months ago from The Good Guys and had been pleased with the machine. It was obviously a fault/weak point in the plastic mould. I was not doing… Read more

anything heavy duty nor out of the ordinary. However neither The Good Guys nor Breville would replace the piece as it was out of warrantee. I would not have brought this machine if I knew I was up for the price of a new blade and postage every 16 months! Not to mention the unreliability of this essential part at a critical moment in making a special cake. The scraper blade is an integral part of the machine and obviously not up to standard.

Great everyday machine – I have had my mixer for 3 years now and use it almost daily, including making dough once a week. Have never had any issues with it to date, best Christmas present! Makes fantastic merengue mix and cake batter. I bought the icecream bowl attachment and have had great success with that too.  Show reply

Perfect for a beginner baker of cakes & sweets – I haven't tried making dough for bread but this mixer is perfect for cakes, meringues and butter creams! I absolutely love using the whisk & paddle attachments. This is in the starting price range of decent stand mixers. So it's perfect for a beginner-intermediate baker who's looking to purchase something with a few more functions than a handheld.

It's Rubbish, Do Not Buy This One – Had this 5 months, didn't use it often. In October it smoked, stopped working after 1/2 minutes of kneading. We were asked to contact service centre, it's been there 4 weeks, each time when we contacted them, they just told us they didn't have time to check that mixer yet.

Great but the scraper paddle has broke twice! – Great mixer for a home baker however it does struggle with more than 15 minutes of beating when making something like Italian meringue butter cream at high speed or mixing bread dough. i think I probably should have gone for the next model up or invested in the kenwood mixer. I would like it a whole lot more if the scrapper paddle hadn't broken twice in 3 years. At $30 each replacement it sucks b

OK Machine – I was very disappointed when I read these reviews as I had just pruchased this model the day before after having a bad experience with another brand that I returned to the store. Lousy electronics – We bought this mixer from Myer a couple of years ago and thought it was great for (very) occasional use. modification after taking about an hour to get the thing open. Must have connected it wrong because - BANG. $69 plus postage later, replaced all the electronics, also did the mod again because the Hall Effect Device was way too far from the magnet. Worked brilliantly for two days then spat the dummy again - flung cake mix all over the kitchen and my wife. One speed only - flat out.

Not happy. Out of warranty and out of patience. Wish I'd bought a Kenwood - built like a (noisy) truck and use a good old fashioned rheostat (like a sewing machine) which lasts forever - instead of fancy electronics.

8 July 2014 Colour, scraper Throws cake mix all over the place every time the speed control spits the dummy.

Piece of expensive trash – After 18 months owning this machine and not a lot of use we have experienced the gear stripping that others have reported. After taking it to the recommended (by Breville) repairer we were told that the parts are not available to fix it. I can't warn people strongly enough to stay away from this machine and I will avoid Breville products in the future.

Problem with the Scraper Blade Mixer for the BEM410S always breaking – Once again our scraper blade for the BEM410S has broken mixing dough for biscuits. The blade unlike other mixes we have had is made if plastic (nylon). this is the third blade that has broken now in just over a year. The cost to replace these are expensive for what they are, so we are thinking of getting a mixer with better attachments that don't always break making biscuits

Poor quality – Bought one of these last year , should have reviewed it first , very heavy to carry but very light weight to use , anything thicker than creamed butter and sugar and it rattles around like the proverbial . If your considering a machine like this put a few more dollars down or you will be very annoyed

If you want to knead bread dough, forget about it! – This mixer is only suitable if you only make cakes or whisk eggs. It cannot handle dough whatsoever. Demo video starring Fiona Inglis – I would like to ask why is Fiona Inglis doing a demonstration using a totally different mixer from the Breville Wizz Mixer BEM410. Just a slight case of "false advertising." I was keen to see the Breville BEM410 in action, but instead saw something else, it did look like it was much more expensive.

Its okay, but its in the process of breaking – I bought this mixer ignoring the warnings about the thing making a grinding noise and not working anymore. First, the good things. The level of combination that this thing offers is great, and can't… Read more

be faulted in that respect. Whisks things up like its nobodies business.

Now the bad part.

This mixer, put under any sort of load, does not have a decent way of handling torque. What I mean is that if the stuff you're mixing is too tough or too hard to mix, the gears inside the mixer will actually strip and then the blender will be useless. The second thing is that if you try to whip up coconut cream, or anything that offers almost zero resistance, and you need high speed whisking, if you put the mixer on "6" (the highest setting) it will stay at that setting....and then get slower....and then get faster....and then get slower... until oncei t eventually just stopped. I don't know why this is.

The mixer is okay, but I only expect to get another 3 months out of it before it breaks, which is a real shame. I've had to run to it on a few occasions when I've heard it start to grind unhappily.

Honestly, it blows my mind. If anyone has ever used a powertool, you'd know theres a setting on the tool to configure how much energy translates to the drillbit. If you set it quite low and hold the chuck, the drill will shudder in your hand. I don't know what this process is called but I don't know why a similar system couldn't have been implemented in this blender. After all, they will just systematically break when the only thing that can give out is the internal motor. great mixer, looks good, free icecream bowl won't last, not well thought up
