How can I reactivate the beeps on my new breville temptset kettle

Chris Butler

I have a Breville IQ Kettle model BKE820XL and the beeping is our dog crazy. Is there anyway to silence the beeping?

Dgl

My almost new BKE840 stopped working mid use. It was heating up and then just stopped and hasn't worked since.

Alan
Alan

Replaced the BKE820 with a BKE845 due to the BKE820 being a load of rubbish. Would not stay boiling and turned itself off constantly before it boiled. Replaced it through distributor and this one did the same. Don't buy it. But the BKE845 which Breville gave us for a discounted price when we complained about the 820 works great. Very impressed and hasn't missed a beat.

Any answer about the beeping? I’d love to stop it as well.

We just won't get an answer on the beeping problem. At least I can 'silence' my washing machine! Who comes up with these unwanted features? It's got nothing to do with safety.

I bought my 2nd Breville Temp Select kettle, but this one beeps too much. Its the BKE720. Can this be turned off?

Hi, is this kettle BPA free? The newer model is advertised as BPA free, but there's no mention on this one. Mine's still working (almost 10 years old), but would buy a new one if it has BPA.

Desparky
Desparky

The only plastics that are in contact with the water is the sight glass. I don't know if it is even made of plastic, or contains BPA, but wouldn't leach much into the water if it did. If you are really concerned just make sure you use fresh water in it every day.

Rini A
Rini A

@Desparky thanks. I have young children and they're meant to be very sensitive to BPA so I try to minimise the exposure. Seeing that the new model (BKE825) doesn't seem to have any difference except for the advertised "BPA free" feature, I am a little suspicious that this one has BPA in the window. I think I'll get a new glass kettle.

My kettle takes a long time to boil. The process of heating will start, then stop, then start again and so on until the water is boiled. how can this be changed?

pk_kaufman
pk_kaufman

Hi Renee It sounds as though you have it set to one of the variable temperatures. It is normal for the kettle to start and stop to reach the correct temperature. However, if you have it set to regular boiling temperature, then there is a fault in the kettle. This would not surprise me. Ours misbehaved so badly that is it is now setting in the garage. We replaced it with a kettle from Target that you can set to various temperatures and it even has a digital read out to show you where it is at. It is less noisy and it WORKS (so far anyway). My husband reached out to Breville and other than an initial response with a question about the model number - they went quiet. Not good customer service for an expensive kettle with lots of issues.

We have this kettle and really love it but for the last 12 months its only stopped boiling automatically when it feel like it. I think we'd have had it more than 2 years. Is it worth trying to repair? Its a lot of money for a kettle that only works for a year or two. We bought the breville toaster with similar smart features and that still works well but I don't think we'd buy from breville again

Maxi
Maxi

Craig there are no replacement parts as far as I know. Maybe phone breville direct and tell them about your problems before it gets too bad.

Thanks maxi. Can you tell me how you know there are no parts?

Pretty poor backup service if they have no parts for something only a couple of years old.

We are on our second base (BKE825), we returned the first one still under warranty and they just gave us a new base no questions asked. Now the second base is also failing (still under warranty) but we have to travel from country Victoria to Breville outlet in Melbourne.

The lid is very slow to open, open needing a nudge to get it started. Is it time for a new kettle? Model BKE820BS/B

Not if you love the kettle. You can buy a new lid but i'd just persevere

Hi Ali, sorry for late reply. I wonder what labour would be worth these days, if in fact this specific fault can be fixed (I've never tried (& yes I'm a tech)) because Breville sadly & disappointingly don't provide parts for this kettle. My lid used to have the same problem. I think I got lazy & just filled up via the spout to overcome this occasional problem. Check the screws in lid & kettle, some came loose in handle of mine which were able to be tightened, but if the screws in lid become loose, it's a sign that the plastic in lid is deteriorating. The plastic (surrounding lid screws) should be a consumable, replacement part, but Breville say no. They want you to buy another of their kettles. So much for the environment, shame, shame, shame....

I have the Breville soft top. It keeps cutting out as soon as I press the button to boil. gives a beep and stops. Also the plastic lid has cracked as i see has happened with others. Its not that old- a kettle like this should last longer than this.

Is there a simple fix?

There just rubbish. So dont pay big bucs for a kettle one around 25.oo is all you need to pay....

VincentvanGogh
VincentvanGogh

Try turning it off at the mains and back on again, this resets the device. Also, try and place the handle just opposite the 95 degree mark, for some reason my breville works the best in that position. Hope this helps.

You may have calcium buildup from your water. We have hard water and built up that it did that. I put about a centimetre of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water and let it sit overnight and rinsed. Should clean it out by morning and work perfectly.

Max
Max

Hi EJR, As for the cutting out problem, there is a possibility (unverified) that this could be due to poor electrical contact between the kettle base & the kettle. Here's a thought: Unplug the kettle base from the mains point & tip all of the water out of the kettle. Now if you have some very very fine emery paper or wet/dry sandpaper look at the top of the base at the west side of the black round protruding base that the kettle sits on. Now on the west side of the black plastic piece there is a small copper piece protruding, this can become discoloured black or dirty & may need to be very lightly brushed with the fine wet/dry sand paper to ensure a better electrical contact -should be shiny after brushing. Also where this connects with the bottom of the kettle (looks to be a brass colour) this could be lightly brushed over with the the fine wet/dry paper. There are other connectors in the vase of the kettle but these are to difficult to access & should be left to a qualified repairman.

As for the broken lid, sorry Breville aren't interested in spare parts. I tried gluing, but failed, the plastic used & lid design is rubbish. I would enquire with Gov Fair Trading Dept & ask them what they consider to be a reasonable lifespan for a kettle of this type/price, if they say 3-4 years & the kettle failed after 2 years & Breville can't fix then ask Fair Trading to pressure Breville to give you a 50% discount on another kettle. The BKE825 (replacment) suffers from the same crap plastic lid design unfortunately. I saw someone wanting to buy that kettle at Bing Lee & I warned them of the problem with that kettle. So Breville lost a customer due to a) not fixing this problem & b) not offering customers replacement parts for their expensive kettles. Are you listening Breville?

My kettle beeps 5 times and shuts down all the lights when I press the start button. What is wrong, can this be fix?. I only had this kettle for 4 months.

Thank you.

Your kettle should be taken back to place of purchase with the receipt if the kettle is still under warranty and replaced, if not call Breville on 1300 139 798 and also email Email: Glen.Britton@breville.com.au and explain to Breville the problem. Make sure you always keep the receipts of any electrical item purchased and then you have no problem in returning the item. The kettle should have a 1 year warranty but check your booklet that came in the box. I hope this helps.

I keep a folder of receipts with all purchases of our electrical items now because you always need proof of purchase.

My BKE820 has a random problem. Sometimes it just doesn't stop boiling. To stop it I either pick the kettle up from the base or push the cancel button. Sometimes it stops at an appropriate time after having boiled. How do I fix this problem?

Sammii
Sammii

Hi Gregory, I am not sure how to fix with your problem with the Breville Kettle it sounds like a fault in the boiling cut of mechanism. I suggest you call Breville Group Ph: +61 2 1300 139 798. The warranty has probably expired so they might offer 50% of a new kettle or they might be able to tell you how to fix. You might need your receipts as proof of purchase.

Or ask this guy if he still around Email: Glen.Britton@breville.com.au

Good luck

Sammii

Hi, the kettle light flashes red and then the "keep warm" button flashes red also - then continuously. The kettle doesn't boil at all. Is there a way to fix this or is it stuffed?

Jason B
Jason B

If these buttons are flashing continuously, it sounds like it's buggered (as the red light should stay on when in use). It might be fixable though. Get in touch with Breville, as these things come with a 2 year warranty.

Lizzie H
Lizzie H

Sorry for the late reply but I agree with the above user. I didn't use the keep warm button on the Breville as it was not automatic on mine like the one I am currently using. By the sounds it does seem faulty. I would take it back to where you originally purchased the product. When we took outs back we took a video of the issue so they could see what was wrong as usually when we need to show someone the problem it starts working properly again lol Always the case

Katie Lippens
Katie Lippens

Thank you both Lizzie & Jason.. We have had the kettle for about 2 and a half years with no receipt anymore.. Do you still think it's worth taking back to breville?

Jason B
Jason B

Unfortunately I don't think Breville will be willing to help as the warranty on this item is 2 years and they are quite adamant about the need for both receipt and warranty card to be produced before they'll assist with repairs etc.

After unplugging the kettle. Try cleaning all condtuctive contact surfaces on the bottom of the kettle and on the base using earbuds dipped in isopropanol. Also try cleaning the thermostat thingy tiny little pin inside the kettle.

Kettle not working - Start only stays on for about 4seconds - Red light just flashes once, briefly, Base and Kettle bottom are clean and dry. Can anyone help?

Hi, This kettle seems to be defective. I never had this problem but what I noticed was that the water was not at "boiling" temperature when making tea. I noticed it particulary when making the tea and being able to drink the tea immediately, rather than what so often happened previously, having to wait a while.

In recent months the opposite has happened, the kettle just never switched off - a common, common problem which many other consumers have noted. I returned my kettle because of this issue. It was replaced and it does the same thing.

Not a good product at all.
