Breville Rice Box BRC460 Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPNs: 370707, BRC460 and BRC460WHTI just purchased the BrevilleBRC460 Rice Box and am having difficulties understanding the instructions. I am wanting to cook brown rice and although the instruction manual gives cooking times, I cannot see where I can set the cooking time on the appliance. All it has is a preset timer is which not to set the cooking time. It states brown rice takes 60-65mins, however I am unsure how to set it to this. If I just leave on sushi rice setting and press start, it will probably be set for white rice and not brown. So how would the appliance know whether I am using brown or white rice. Help.
The machine cooks brown or white rice automatically according to the ratio of rice and waterr used. For example, 3 cups (using the cup supplied) of white rice to 3 cups of water. For brown, 3 cups of brown rice to 4-1/2 cups of water. So there is more water used for the brown rice and it takes longer. The machine will stop cooking when all the water is absorbed. The setting for just plain white or brown rice is Cook/Sushi. Hope this helps.
Great thanks Annette, that makes perfect sense. Much Appreciated John.
For brown rice I just do 2 cups brown rice+3 cups of water. Then just hit start. The machine does the rest.
Thanks Keebers, I will test machine out tonight and give feedback on how I went. My only other question was, once you hit start, and the rice is cooked, I don't believe the cooker gives any audible sound when the rice is cooked and automatically goes into warm mode. Is there a way of knowing when it switches to warm mode, so I can time the resting period, or as the instructions state, give it all a stir once it has cooked and then, let it sit for 10-15mins? Cheers John
Hi all, cooked brown rice using the amount of rice and water ratio of 1 part rice to 1.5 parts water and it came out perfect. Thanks all for your help. Cheers John
Where do I find the serial number
I can't find one on mine either. I looked for a sticker with a barcode presentation and number but didn't find it.
How do you register it for the warranty
On the back of the manual that came with the cooker you will see a sticker that has the serial number.
The manual mentions nothing about the vent. On the bottom of the vent there is open and close dial. Should the vent be opened or closed while cooking?
What is problem of rice box that blinks showing C 3 on screen?
Is it problem or programming error
Is it still possible to cook relatively small quantities of rice in the BRC460 ?What is the smallest quantity possible ?
Rice is our main food, mostly we cook over 3 cups at a time, but few times cooked 2 cups. And it was ok. I think you can even cook 1 cup in it. Shouldn’t be a problem. It’s been over 4 years I am using the same rice cooker. Still working like new.

I put everything in mine. Rice, seasoning and veggies. The hardest part is waiting!
How do you clean the lid of this? Is it removable the aluminum and silicon bit?
Not removal just a wipe down. Air vent can be removed and cleaned independently.
What happens when you put the rice in but forgot to put the pot in, how do you remove the remaining rice in the cooker?
Try contacting Breville see what they say, your the second person here to do that maybe the other one can advise you what they did?
My rice box suddenly stopped cooking rice and have tried for a while to see if I can do anything to sort it but no luck. Approximately 2 and half years old.
I just purchase the rice box and after finishing cooking, the WARM light does not illuminate. Isn’t it supposed to auto switch to warm mode?
Yes.
I just purchased my cooker today. Once the rice finished cooking, the warm light didn’t illuminate at all.
It keeps on beeping c3
Manual for BRC460 refers to a STOP button to cancel the WARM setting after cooking the rice. Cannot find any STOP button. Where is it??
push the 'CANCEL' button, I just did it then!
I have the Breville BRC 460 white model. The only disappointment is that you cannot read the water levels inside the rice bowl as it is the same black colour as the bowl. The previous model had the levels in white which was so easy to read. How can the levels be highlighted?
I just use the same amount of water and rice so I never bother looking at the markings
EI use a measuring cup for accuracy.
HIya WingeForChange. How do you determine the same amount of water and rice? Dry rice 1 cup = water 1 cup??? I rinse the rice in the rice cooker's bowl, till water runs clear, and then fill up to level indicated. Ie. rice is already wet, to some degree, before I add more water. You maybe use a different bowl for rinsing?
Only just saw this... I measure into a sieve and rinse it in the sieve tip it into the bowl then add the water, it does not have to be exact
I accidentally poured rice into the cooker without the bowl unit and now there is rice stuck under the element and is rattling around inside the machine. I can’t get it out and am worried when I turn it on it will burn Please help Thank you
Take it in for service
Hi, my rice cooker has suddenly stopped cooking rice quickly . It takes much longer time (around a hour) to just warm water inside
Hi Sachin, I havent experienced that issue. I used the steamer mode last night and it perfectly steamed our vegetables.
Hi, skeen When I add water to rice and put on cook mode it is not creating steam. Thus the rice remains uncooked? Is there any button to reset ??
