Great machine, excellent frothing, super fast heat up which I love
Purchased for work as the local coffee shop has deteriorated to undrinkable levels. As it turns out I love the super quick heat up time so much that I'm keeping it at home.
Quality of the shot is good, grinder is as excellent as my independent grinder.
I have seen others say they aren't happy with the steamer, mine is great, but you do need to pre-purge it. A small price to pay for a machine that is ready to go as soon as you turn it on.
Love it !

Good compact size, but average machine, puts out ok shots. Is quiet to use. Really useless steaming wand however. Pushes out a heap of water before actually steaming, takes a long time to heat/froth half a cup of milk. Wish I had of looked at the reviews before purchasing!

Great coffee, Terrible quality. Repeated broken machines. Drawn out help and repair process. Limited repairers in Qld.
Machine makes great coffee, however very unreliable. First machine was only 10 months old when it started tripping the power circuit in the house. Was replaced by Harvey Norman. The 2nd one started making very strange noises when the machine was off and the power point turned off. The only way to stop it was to unplug it from the power point, this was only after five months. Started the process with the help desk and it took thirteen days from first the first phone call to actually getting the OK to send to a repairer in Brisbane some 1000 kilo...metres away as there were no authorized repairers in Mackay. After the machine arrived at the repairer I received a text to say there is a four week turn around. so from initial contact to maybe getting the machine back could be six weeks. Not happy Jan. If it fails again for a third time will be looking for a refund. Lucky there is a twenty four month warranty

Originally purchased in May and by November the machine was blowing out smoke and tripped our safety switch.
Breville replaced the machine and within a month the replacement started to play up. The grinder was tripping up and down. Sent to Breville for repair under warranty who reported that no fault was found and wasn't able to be replicated by their technician.
Got my machine back and the fault was still present.
Now have a $900 machine that is not usable. What a complete waste of money. Have requested a refund so lets see if Breville come to the party otherwise there is my $$$$ down the drain.

Great coffee, Terrible quality. Repeated broken machines
We have had 2 of these machines.
The first one died within the first 7 months. When using the extraction function the machine would trip the houses safety switch (switching off all power to the home). The seller tried to argue that we had to send it in to have it assessed and repaired. We got NSW fair trading involved as this was clearly a safety issue (flicking the homes safety switch indicates water or steam was coming in to contact with an electrical component of the machine.) We were able to get a replacement machine when NSW fair trading s...

Perfect for a medium kitchen setup
Quick and Efficient machine with little fuss to setup.
Digital display works well.
Grinds and dispenses coffee as as indicated. Coffee espresso works consistently. Steamer heats up very quick. Time will tell but so far so good.

Makes great coffee, but take the time to dial it in!
This coffee machine appears and feels to be well made, although a little plasticky in places.
As to reliability - I've had no problems with it whatsoever.
This machine replaced an old DeLonghi bean-to-cup fully automatic machine. Compared to that, this machine makes far better coffee - full bodied, rounded flavour with little or no bitterness.
Note that in general, making coffee with this machine is a pretty messy endeavour. You need to spend a little time wiping up coffee grounds and slight spillages and rinsing bits and pieces, after each ...session - unlike a fully automatic machine which requires much less cleaning. The built-in grinder is pretty noisy (but the noise during extraction is reasonable). To avoid waking up my Significant Other with my 4.00am pre-work coffee making activities I use pre-ground coffee, thereby avoiding the grinder noise.

We built a kitchen with white gloss cabinets
And we have added splashes of colour but wanted the very visible top of bench machine to not be one of those splashs. The blacks, chromes and cranberry colours we saw didn't suit.
We were left with this matte off-white machine or a fully automatic Jura machine in gloss white. The local Jura agent admitted to comments that theirs doesn't make HOT coffee, as is the European but not Aussie style. It also had a small water jug.
So the Breville. Being semi-automatic there are coffee grounds that pepper around the machine. It's not a bright white l...ike the Jura and our cabinets. It's noisy! But for a coffee I can put up with the volume. Sometimes the basket sticks into the machine when removing it & things spill, not always though. Double wall basket for us.
Bes878 barista downgrade
Breville used to make quality product
I purchased barista express and it lasted a good 7 years with at least 5000 cups of coffee
However with barista pro bes878 it has gone down in quality tremendously and just subpar
This is due to the parts component that was used in the machine. The T connector valve cracks after a year of use thus spraying water into the machine. Causing malfunction and flood (as indicated by other users)
The in built grinder also cant grind extra fine. It only goes to medium grind after some usage
Its a nice cosmetic machine but rubbish internally. Just terrible
Purchased in November 2019.
Ok on double shot useless on single shot. Changed grind and time amounts as per manual, machine just clogs up. Even put grind to max coarse, will not operate on single shot on any setting

Two faults identified within a week of purchase, repair/replace on faulty part only with around 3+ weeks turnaround
I have only just purchased this machine approx a week ago and have experienced two issues on the machine related to the coffee programming and also the coffee volumes. On speaking with breville I have to box it up to be sent by courier to their service centre which can take a round 3 weeks to fix. Rep has already said they will fix the faulty part... It's a new machine with two faults (thst I've noticed, may be more) it clearly is a faulty machine and I believe should be replaced entirely. This doesn't leave me with any confidence that the mach...ine will come back fault free or that I won't find issues in future..now I feel like trying to customize or play with every single feature so I know what else I should report as faulty so I don't waste another 3 weeks repair time in future. So disappointing for this price Update # spoke to customer service who has since provided me with authority to replace entire machine, given the situation and thst the faults were in a new machine! Really appreciated. Once I get replacement will update review

Great machine, quality design
I’ve had my BES878 White for about 4 weeks now. It took me around 120g of coffee to dial in the perfect espresso, however once all set up it is very easy to use.
I love the design and the way it sits on my kitchen bench top. The assembly is very easy, and the instructions are clear. Once unboxed and set up after inserting the water filter and your basket in to your portafilter you are ready to rumble.
I would certainly recommend the machine if you are a coffee lover.
I really do wish I purchased the Stainless Steel over the white. This i...s my only complaint. For a machine that costs almost $1000 the quality on the paint job isn’t the greatest. I’ve already got small scratch and chip marks which is starting to peel the white away. I can’t even imagine what it will look like after a year. This is occurring where I rest the milk jug at times when I’m steaming milk. My tip is to steam your milk away from the drip tray. This is my only feedback to Breville. Outside of this great machine and would highly recommend if you are a coffee lover.

Machine is great...when it works
Machines main system board died after a few months. Have a replacement warranty but they won’t replace it. Customer service has been terrible and don’t want to know about it!

Do not buy. Leaks water.
Purchased May 2020 (3 weeks old). Within the first week of owning we wondered why it was using so much water and the drip tray was full after 2-3 coffees. Very Strange. Then we refilled the water tank and not only did the drip tray fill up (2 coffees made) there was water all over the bench and floor. We thought it may have been us not putting water tank back on right or some user error. Nope, it wasn't us. We emptied the drip tray and refilled the water tank again and this time did not use the machine at all. Monitored the drip tray and it sta...rted filling up with the machine off. There is a fault to this product and Breville know it. I called Breville support - I can take my brand new $900 coffee machine to a repairer to have it serviced and that's all we can offer. My comment - If I had to drop it off, and pick it back up and waste time running it around I may as well take it back. It's faulty and I don't want to risk the repair work not fixing the leak and being back to square one. Breville rep in a grumpy voice and not even willing to have a discussion about the problem - "Hang on, I'll put you on hold and get someone else." 10 minutes on hold, no one else came to the phone, and the call magically got cut off. Pathetic service Breville. I own multiple Breville products and will likely not buy Breville again. UPDATE: After a 24hr battle, caused by Breville refusing a refund and trying to control the returns process, the retailer has provided me with a full refund.

Broke in less than 6 months - no explanation why
The machine is stunning and, when it actually works, makes a fantastic espresso. We used it every day. But to experience issues in less than 6 months is incredibly disappointing, especially since it comes at such a dear price point! It was given as a Christmas gift when it was on sale in December 2019 (we picked it up from JB Hi-Fi in January 2020). We upgraded to this machine after using a $250 Sunbeam espresso machine for over TEN years but now the Breville is already faulty, despite retailing for 4-5 times the price. We noticed steam coming ...up from the drip tray back in April and wondered if this was an issue. Shortly after, every time we went to grind coffee the power would cut out and we have to go outside to reset the fuse. We've sent it to Breville's authorised repairer - it's been at the shop for 3 weeks even though we were told it would take 2 weeks at most. Breville was non-apologetic and also hasn't explained what the fault was in the first place. I tried to write a review on their website but that was ignored. Definitely not the quality I was expecting from such a reputable brand.

Questions & Answers
When I push the power button the machine lights up and a beeping sound starts for a few seconds. The machine won’t start brewing but I can get hot water and the steamer works. Anyone having the same problem?
Considering purchasing the Breville barista pro (sea salt) however concerned about the overall paint finish as some consumers commented on poor finish and resultant scratches after short time.
