Does it do stretch stitch?

Ania
Ania

Yes. Every sewing machine even the most basic model does - the basic stretch stitch is zigzag or for internal construction triple line zigzag (interrupted zigzag with 3 short lines instead of one long).

Hi what number of needle to use for JS1400 sewing machine my needles are broken and now I have to buy new one but don’t know which number?

Ania
Ania

Depends on the type of fabric you're using. 70 for lighter fabrics, 80 for thicker heavier ones. You can ask in a fabric shop and/or check on Google. Also remember to choose the right kind of needle for wovens or knits i.e. the one that says "stretch" or "yersey" on the packet for your stretch fabrics.

Hi,

I know they can order parts in for you. Give them a phone call they have brilliant customer service and stock. The shop names are Bargain Box Capalaba and Pleasure Sew Capalaba. I have ordered parts from them before it take 4 weeks.

I have brother JA1400 I want to know is this machine can sew Jean pants cloths plz tell coz I don't want any unwanted thing to do

Chopsuey

Hi, I think you can use a 90/14 needle for this to sew Jean pants. But I would recommend JS1400 only for sewing hem or minor modification to an already wearable Jeans. If you are looking to sew multiple Jean pants within a week, it is better to use a heavy-duty sewing machine, since it has stronger motor and parts that will not easily break down.

Hello! Can this machine sew stretchy fabric? I bought a machine before, thinking it would be able to sew fabric with a significant amount of elasticity to it and was sorely disappointed.

Ania

Hi Patricia, Any machine can sew stretchy fabric including this cheap basic one. What you need for your knits are special needles for stretch fabric. You just replace your standard ones with the ones designed for sewing stretchy fabrics. They have clear signage on the packet "stretch" and are sold in any fabric/sewing supplies shop. I've done tons of super stretchy outfits on this one - just used needles for stretch. Another thing to remember is to obviously use zigzag stitch - this Brother model has overlocking zigzag stitch. I use zigzag stitch on hems too just not too dense ones. With colour coordinated thread it looks fine. I tried twin needles but they brake too easily. To even further ensure my stitches on stretch fabrics will stretch with the fabric I like using woolly nylon thread in the bobbin. Not only it helps with stretching but also it compacts neatly so you can wind it all the way to the edges of your plastic disc in your bobbin. It lasts much longer than ordinary thread. One little thing I suggest about sewing knits is being careful when you just start your stitch in the very first corner of two layers of fabric - it can easily get sucked in so try not to press the foot pedal too hard or too fast at that very start. Happy sewing with stretch needles!

Can this machine sweing the thick fabrics like Jeans?

Ania
Ania

Yes but you're best is to purchase a walking foot and attach it in place of your regular foot - it's fast and easy, there's just one big chunky screw to undo and then redo again with small key shaped screwdriver tool included with the machine kit. The walking foot I got was from Textile Traders and cost $50. It handles thick fabric and is ideal for layers of thick or sturdy fabric. It's a tad more noisy than regular foot, bulkier and wider. I've sewn a set of curtains on it made of hessian heavy duty fabric without any problems and mended holes in my husband's jeans.

The one that I am using has a dimension of roughly 44cm(L)x20cm(L)x35cm(H).

I have updated the measurement based on the box that came with it.
