Buying an old semi-pro canon body – Canon EOS 40D is a great camera. I loved the color depth it produce because of its large pixel size which compliment for its low 10MP resolution. It is a 6.5 frames per second burst, with fast and accurate auto focus capability especially the center focus point, that is ideal for sports photography. The build quality is superb but it is not… Read more

weather sealed. Best of all, you can buy it online for a second hand used at an average of $200 USD. Mine, i've bought it at [weblink removed]

Amazing camera – Been going strong for almost 8 years now, and has taken over 130,000 photos and still works like the day i got it, image quality is still good even in 2017 and the fps are still better than most of the entry-level dslr's. If you happen to find a second hand one in good condition get it!  Show details

Good solid camera but dated now – Somewhat heavy and bulky to take on holiday it does feel of quality . The cheaper plastic lenses available are actually quite good as they are cheap because they are made of plastic not that the lenses are lacking much . No movie mode and only 10MB but Mega pixels are not everything if the lens and sensor are good it will outdo higher megapixel… Read more

but poor quality cameras . Taking pictures with flash it can "jam" when taking pictures in quick succession as it tries to find its focus . Using manual focus could fix this . If you can learn to use the "raw" format you will have great scope for changing pics after taking them . CF format memory card will not fit most laptops without adaptor . SD card can fit in camera with adaptor . If you are serious about your photography a full frame camera with matching lenses from the start could be a good investment if you can afford it .

Have had this camera for at least 5 years . No need to update .

Solid, Stable option – I have had my Canon 40d camera for over 3 years now and felt compelled to review this product. It has been an absolute gem. I have taken this camera to 4 different countries, drop it several times and it still shoots like day one. The range of ISO is enough and the sharpness of the photos still compares with the latest 60d offering. I would recommend this camera to anyone looking ot pick up a cheaper second hand option of the grade cannon.

Good – This is an excellent camera. We've taken stacks of awesome pictures with it and we are always egtting compliments on our photography. The picture quality is excellent. I love the sports setting - guarantees you can get an awesome pic if you take 100 in quick sucession! especially handy with kids who wont sit still for long. I find the weight a bit… Read more

too much. With this, and the size, it means that I am less likely to just grab it and take it along when I go out. This may well be the case with all better quality cameras though.

Excellent – I just love this camera, having upgraded from a 300D. It feels like a camera should. It's as much at home doing point-and-shoot as it is doing fully creative photography. To do it justice I would recommend buying a Canon "L" series lens, particularly the 24-105 F4L which can be just left on the camera for most occasions. Highly recommended. Solid… Read more

build feel, well balanced, flexible and easy to use. Don't like the on/off switch. Kit lenses are poor quality.

Excellent – I love this camera. It is my first DSLR and a superb one at that! I have been doing a fair bit of photography and assisting at weddings, this camera would be ideal for semi-pro photographers, I have seen quite a few wedding photographers that use them. The lens which came with the camera (17-85mm Canon lens) is great, very good quality and… Read more

produces a great photo. It is nice and heavy and feels secure, the weight helps stop hand shake. It is fairly easy to use and the manual is very comprehensive. It comes with a booklet that has suggestions of how to use the camera in particular situations which is very helpful for beginning photographers and teaches you as much as you would learn in a community college photography course. I love this camera, there is nothing negative to say about it! The picture quality is great.

Excellent – Having made the switch from film slr to dslr, I haven't been disappointed with the 40D. It was recommended by friends who take photos for a living as an affordable alternative to their top models. Used with a fast 50mm lens, I've taken HEAPS of indoor photos of my baby boy to get professional quality photos that are as good, if not better, than… Read more

from studios. If you are interested in photography and you understand it a bit, plus you want to learn more, then, this camera will be perfect for you. Feels like a proper slr camera with well designed grips. Good 9 point focusing even in low light. Great image resolution up to ISO 800 and good tonal range. Fast continuous frame rate. Has live view but haven't needed to use it yet. Nothing much. Don't know why it has a print button. Pretty pointless.

Good – The 40D is an excellent pro-sumer digital camera. This would make a great backup camera for pros, or even a primary camera, depending on personal preference. Canon's standard 1.6X crop factor is a part of the camera, so fullframe lovers will miss out. Image quality is great at ISO up to 800. ISO 1000+ and grain starts to appear, although such… Read more

grain is still acceptable image-wise. The dials are the same as the EOS 50, making it 40D a great upgrade camera from film to digital. Great image quality, auto sensor cleaning, rear adjustment dial Inconvenient ISO setting dial. Inconvenient DOF preview button. Crop factor.
