I pay a fortune - happily, to ensure I’m covered when I need it. Their terms and conditions are completely illogical and at odds with each other - we can’t travel we won’t be covered, and they insist we must cancel due to Government Travel Advice which is specifically covered under their policy. Equally they claim the cause is the war which… Read more
specifically voids their insurance coverage for cancellation. I was told if I travel and I’m held at gunpoint in France, they wouldn’t cover on the basis that there is a war, then I was told to cancel first and they will make a determination on cover after I cancel. Their customer service and responses are abysmal. We have managed to get most providers to refund the bulk of our trip and Chubb won’t pay the last 5K, despite almost 30K in refunds from far more reasonable providers. This is why we have insurance and if they’re not prepared to pay, they should be clearer on their cover. Using a war in a completely seperate part of the world to justify rendering our insurance useless is against the law - unfortunately for them I have all the time and resources to hold them to account.
They did insist on a lot of documentation, not all of which I was able to obtain but we had over $23,000 of travel booked on a Qantas card which included free overseas travel insurance with Chubb, we were able to recover, through cancellations, refunds and a subsequent claim for the remaining $6500 all but $1500 of which they paid. Quite… Read more
reasonably, Chubb would not pay that final element because we received a credit voucher from the hotel. We’re unlikely to ever use it but that’s not Chubb’s fault. At the end of the day I was satisfied and happy with the result. If they’d accepted that last $1500 hotel bill I would have given them 5 stars.
I was robbed on a train and these guys after a month atleast ten phone calls and as many emails have made me jump through that many hoops , it’s disgusting to be treated like this when you pay a premium for insurance with a platinum credit card I don’t recommend American Express or Chubb ever for insurance their ts and cs will prevent any king of loss or trauma suffered - disgusting service Show details

To be honest I saw so many bad reviews and was expecting this would be an uphill battle. It was our first travel insurance claim and the vendors - British Airways and Airbnb were absolutely hopeless in providing us what Chubb has requested. However we showed every effort we were trying to obtain the documents that Chubb required and they proceeded… Read more
with our claim. Just try to obtain all the evidence and correspondences. Chubb’s call centre’s hold wasn’t too bad either and the representatives were polite.
Sick daughter – My experience with Chubb Travel Insurance Australia was highly satisfactory when my daughter fell ill in Indonesia and required a five-day hospitalisation. The process, starting from the Emergency Department call to the final resolution, was marked by clear periodical communication between Chubb healthcare providers and Chubb insurers. This was… Read more
especially impressive considering the hospital's refusal to communicate with the insurer and their demand for a deposit. The medical documentation provided was subpar compared to what one would expect in Australia, with the itemised bill being the best detailed document from the hospital. Nonetheless, Chubb successfully completed the claim in accordance with the contract terms, and the online submission processing was straightforward, so no complaints, from what I could see was a reasonable process.
Happy with service – Fast processing, easy to deal with. Recommend. Had an accident overseas requiring stitches in hospital. Claim paid in short period, documentation not overly onerous. Had to make call to call centre wait time was relatively short and resolved issue Show details
Negative reviews
Useless travel insurance. Good thing nothing too big happened because they just refuse to acknowledge your illnesses. They find ways and reasons to not pay. Other than that, it is very hard to contact them. Will never buy this insurance again and will definitely not recommend, unless you want a big headache. Show details
I have used many travel insurance company's before and have had to lodge claims. I would use any other company besides this one. I made an Air b n B booking. 5 weeks out I had to cancel as the person I was visiting had a sick sister and had to go and take care of them. I was denied my claim as the person I was visiting wasn't sick. Seems… Read more
unreasonable to me. Air B n B themselves are greedy. With that much cancelation time I would have been better booking a motel where I could cancel 24 hours out. You'd think over 5 weeks notice was ample. So they took half my money. I will never use Chubb insurance again, and I wouldn't recommend it for any sort of travel insurance. Loyd's is better as is. Travel Safe.
not good – I have this insurance via my Amex card. Only thing i needed to claim was for a damaged mobile smart phone. Unfortunately they have a limit of $250 and the excess is $250 essentially cancelling the claim out meaning its not covered. Show details

Try everything to decline the claim – I travelled to the Philippines and booked my travel using my Qantas credit card - knowing that meant I got travel insurance included. As part of my travel plans in June 2024 I needed an internal flight (Philippine airlines), prior to my international flight (Qantas) from Manila back to Australia. I booked a flight that landed 4.5hrs before my… Read more
flight in Manila - which I thought would be enough time. In reality we missed the landing spot, circling Manila for an hour, ran low on fuel, diverted to Clark where there was a lighting storm so they couldn't refuel straight away, then they finally refueled and made the way back to Manila, landing 5mins before my flight to Australia was due to depart - so of course I missed the flight.
During the diversion I managed to get my husband to contact Chubb, and confirm I would be covered, yes of course - as long as the Philippine airlines give you a letter stating the flight delay. So at Manila airport I waited 2hrs for a letter before leaving the airport, going to a hotel and rebooking a flight for the following day.
Now when I submit the claim Chubb only covered the cost of part of the hotel claiming "travel delay" and have not covered the replacement flight ($3k). They claim the letter that Philippines Airline doesn't state the reason and I have tried to contact Philippines airlines several times, to no avail. My friend that was travelling with me submitted the exact same letter and her claim was paid out by Medibank MONTHS ago, I am just going back and forth with Chubb. I believe they know how difficult it would be to get in contact with an Asian airline, and are using this to their advantage to try and decline the claim. It is now Jan 2025, 6 months later and I still haven't had the claim paid.
Incredibly poor experience, I'm just glad in this scenario its "only" money, and not a health claim - because I couldn't trust them.
"Delay, Deny, Defend"! – My partner unexpectedly passed away from natural causes while travelling in Europe for work. He had activated his travel insurance through American Express card membership which is underwritten by Chubb. Chubb were notified of his passing within the first few days and chose to NOT provide any support to me or the family even though a legitimate… Read more
claim was in place. 6 months has passed and Chubb still haven't settled on the claim and continue to delay responses beyond the legal required time. It is very clear to me they are employing a strategy of "Delay, Deny, Defend"! Avoid Chubb! Their service is beyond poor and they have no professional integrity.
Amex / Chubb travel insurance – After confirmation by Amex that our claim would qualify, chubb continued to drag out and protract the process, it was clear from the outset there intention was to drag out the process so you will gust go away, i had to go in to hospital for a urgent medical procedure, then was advised not to travel for a-number of weeks, so had to cancel our… Read more
flights Over seas, after providing doctors certificates clearly showing the symptoms where not pre existing, they want more , "there is no more" there process seems to just wear you down, what it dose do is build a level of anxiety and stress that will put you back in hospital. i did rely on the Amex "Chub" travel insurance as i have the Platinum card, thats the reason i got the Platinum card, after this experience and after reading others on this product review site i think its time to shop around .

CHUBB Travel Insurance - Warning – This is the first time I have used the Chubb Travel Insurance linked to my American Express Centurion Card, this will also be the last time I ever use the Chubb Travel Policy, if I may My partner took our twin 7 year boys to Bali during the June school holidays this year, one of the little boys got a severe ear infection, we assume from the… Read more
swimming pool, as they did not go to the beach because my partner decided against it
The ear infection occurred on the day before they were leaving to return to Melbourne, the little boy was in lots of pain, my partner called the Doctor via the hotel reception, over the next 8 days he was visited 4 times by the Medico and prescribed antibiotics to clear up the infection which went of for another 7 days before the Doctor said he was fit to fly, every visit until then the Doctor said "not fit to fly" on the medical certificate
We were constantly in touch with a company who was just fantastic, not owned by Chubb, they called every day to check the condition of the little boy, this company is a third party assistance service for medical, they were fantastic
The stay was extended by 8 days and seven nights for the 3 of them, clear cut and dry insurance claim of about $14k, the claim was 55 pages in length, I had everything for the claim
They even required a medical certificate from our GP in Melbourne to confirm there was no pre-existing ear issues
It is now 4 months, Chubb paid me about half the claim 4 weeks later, they then deny the balance about $6750.00, I argue and report them to AFCA, I then receive notification mid November they will pay another $1700 of cancelled air fares, they pay half the medical bills, Chubb will not pay food for the children or for the week and half the accommodation, this week - 4 months later I have again reported them to AFCA
The claim is still almost$4000.00 short, they are still stalling, I have spent over 50 hours on the phone and emails, they DO NOT CARE
CHUBB are a night mare - Do not use them, go else where, I have told AMEX to remove them from my card
Complain to AMEX Corporate Support – Standard Practice of declinal and making up reasons that can't be justified to deny claim. I have written to AMEX about this partnership, the values of the 2 companies don't align. The more people that complain to AMEX the greater chance upon renewal Chubb will lose the contract. Also going to AFCA. It is beyond ridiculous. Just remember when claiming also claim under Section 57 of the Insurance Contracts Act. Show details
Chubb should be Grubb – Chubb should be Grubb I wish there was less than 1 star! My wife broke her leg, so we were unable to travel! So a claim was submitted with Chubb it took about 5hrs for me to gather all the information they wanted for the claim, then I get a reply “you’ll hear from us in 10 business days!” Then in 10 days “we need more documentation” ie proof… Read more
from our GP that the broken leg wasn’t a pre existing condition! I made a complaint there reply “you’ll hear from us in 30 days!” It’s deliberate stalling from a multi billion dollar company that doesn’t want to pay out my $3000 claim but happy to take my premium!!
The usual delay and frustrate game that insurance companies play to avoid paying anything out – The usual insurance company tactics to absolutely avoid any chance of giving you what you were covered for. We had a train cancellation at the last minute in Amsterdam, there were no other trains available that day as it was so last minute, and we needed to get to our next city by the next day. Only option was to book a flight the next day, and it… Read more
was not cheap at all (the joys of last minute bookings!). So, we had to pay for that, as well as another night's accommodation in Amsterdam (also not cheap as it was peak season). DB (German train company) haven't exactly been helpful in providing any information as to why the train was cancelled and also not helpful in relation to compensation. Explaining all of this to Chubb and once you finally get a reply (it is taking two to three weeks each time to get a reply!), they simply ask for the same information that I've already explained is seemingly impossible to get (i.e. confirmation from DB as to why the train was cancelled and what offer of compensation they can provide). Chubb also repeatedly asks for copies of documents, such as travel itinerary and proof of booking on the AMEX card, which I've already provided in the original claim documentation. So, here we are again, with yet another insurance company, playing the delay and frustrate game in order to avoid having to actually pay anything out! Only saving grace is that I didn't pay extra for this insurance other than what's included in the card annual fee but I can guarantee that I will never recommend actually paying anything for this joke of an insurance offering.
Terrible !! Will never use them again – I was overseas, 6 hours before my flight Qantas cancelled and did not offer an alternative flight, reason given “staff issues”. I booked and paid for another flight to get home. Put a claim in to Chubb with a letter from Qantas giving the reason it was cancelled, 3 weeks later they request my bank statement showing I’d paid the flight as well as… Read more
the ticked, a further 2 weeks later they refuse the claim, reason given don’t cover staff issues, riots, mechanical breakdowns, cyclones etc etc but not staff issues.
Refusal to pay claim – Absolutely horrible experience. Impossible to speak to anyone dealing with claims. Responses regarding the claims make no sense and requesting irrelevant documents over and over. Clearly a strategy to make people give up and not have to pay them. DO NOT USE. Show details
Horrible experience – Completely worthless insurance, don't waste your money, get insurance from another company! Unreasonable attitude to credit – Our planned trip to Europe had to be cancelled because I fell and broke my arm on 3 July. We were specifically going to do a polar bear expedition in Norway that is only offered in summer. We booked our flights in January 2024 and because British Airways offered us flight credit to be taken by January 2025 Chubb refused our claim. What is the… Read more
point in having travel insurance if you are supposed to just accept any unreasonable offer of credit and travel just for the sake of using over $10000 worth of credit? My advice is to avoid them and British Airways.
Absolutely dreadful. Chubb do NOT want to pay the health costs when there is significant health risk – I am giving this insurer ONE star only because I can't give zero. I am not the traveller - my son is currently 'trapped' in Asia after presenting at the hospital as requested by AMEX to receive 'urgent treatment'. He was assured that his policy covered all medical bills but that he would need to pay first before they could be paid out. Currently… Read more
the bill is 1600 AUD and that is purely for diagnosis. he needs a CT Scan, and more tests before they can treat, and this will cost a further minimum of 3, 500. in the meantime there are NO assurances that Chubb will pay, as they are trying to 'wheedle out' and reading the fine print. considering he required 'urgent treatment' he's now been untreated for nearly 48 hours while this mess is resolved. he's also lost flights (and unfit to travel) and 'trapped in a foreign land' while Amex is trying to encourage him to establish (while in pain and unwell) to see if another credit card he has, has travel insurance he can claim on as part of expediting his medical treatment. I understand the wheels are in motion but as I say - long time for wheels to turn when "urgent treatment is needed" and the hospital won't treat until they are assured of payment. What a joke, what a nightmare. In the meantime I'm in Australia trying to find out exactly what the health ailment is- how severe it is. I understand its parasitic, and can enter the pulmonary region if it goes untreated. Now I see that some poor person on here has actually had someone die overseas and Chubb avoiding paying the costs there as well. They are diabolical. Just to be clear - I'm not the traveller. I'm simply the mother of an adult and not in the position to pay the health costs. My son is the claimant.

Sudden Death – Chubb Travel Insurance – With the sudden death of my brother-in-law in Europe in June 2024, our family is still seeking a resolution for the insurance claim activated through his American Express card (A Chubb insurance product). cremation instead of the more expensive option of repatriating his remains to Australia. The insurer refused to make an on-balance claims decision or offer local assistance, insisting on a toxicology report that would take weeks or even months to obtain. With over 40 years in the insurance industry, including 20 years in travel insurance I have never experienced such a lack of empathy. Potential Chubb insurance policyholders may want to consider our experience before proceeding.
As I write this update (on 13 Jan 2025) it’s been over 7- months and still no claim outcome. Chubb has applied strict process to all 3 complaints that have been made. This is to say they have taken as much time as possible. Often just within the regulated time permitted. One complaint has been progressed to the Australian Financial Complaints authority. I suspect a number of additional complaints will be necessary. Such as: Misleading information provided via the assistance company, World Travel Protection.
As I write this update (12 Mar 2027) it's now 9-months and the claim remains unresolved. The Australian Financial Complaints authority have taken the complaint indicating a progress timeline of 12 weeks. More time lost because Chubb clearly don't put policyholders first
worst travel insurance ever – my flight was delayed due to entire airport shutdown for severe snow storm which meant i missed my connecting bus. by time i got to my flight destination buses weren't running so chubb expected me to sleep out in the cold snow storm Show details
I can’t even contact them to ask a question on my claim – Travel insurance is absolutely useless if you can’t contact the company to ask questions or get help. Don’t use this company – My REX flight got canceled and they changed to 4hour earlier flight. I had to change my connecting flight before that REX flight to be able to get on that new flight. Be careful people, one way trip insurance doesn’t cover for additional travel and accomodation fee at all.

What’s the insurance for then.
Claims still PENDING – My dad had a mild stroke here in Australia and it is a new diagnosis as per the hospital and documentation. absolutely useless – Made a claim with them after the airline messed up our return plane tickets leaving us stranded, and we've been told that we are not covered for repatriation costs. And it took 2 months for them to respond. Why pay for insurance if you get no help when you are $8000 out of pocket? Don't bother with them.
