Cox Stockman Series 3 Ride On Mowers Questions & Answers
VerifiedHi , I have a concern with a Cox Stockman 4500 Hydra, I used the mower then desided to give it a rince and clean the deck , it started an I put it away, then ext day I went to start it and on the first key on position got the system live click then depressed the Brake and went to start it but just got a click from the starter motor. I have tested the starter motor and it spins up with direct 12V and on the bench it will even crank the motor with direct 12v. I have replace the starter solenoid and ignition switch and checked the 15A fuse (it's ok), cleaned connectors and checked earth connections, the seat safety switch was removed 10 years ago so thats not an issue, was thinking maybe Brake plunger switch, but have not located it yet. The battery is brand new and fully charged. Has anyone had similar issues or would be able to point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance Colin Gatton QLD Aust.
How do I replace a snapped cutting disc shaft which is broken at the base?
Please can anyone tell me what I need to undo to take tension off belt to get new one on. 4 hours today ended in tears! I don't know names.of parts, so good description of what I need to loosen would be great. Thanks Katrina
does the belt tension pulley move up and down on the shaft ??
how do I replace the brake liner on my series 3 ?
Hi can anyone help me with a starting problem. The motor starts but it will not engage and run. I had the same problem last year and been told I had to put a special tube with fluid in the petrol in order for the petrol to not get stale over winter. Last year I had to order a new part of $ 250 which we had to put in the ride on mower and the machine was working fine there after. I did put that special fluid in the petrol this winter so the petrol would not go stale but still does not work. Can anyone give me advise please.
what is the procedure for changing the main drive belt between the motor and the clutch cone pulley. have already loosened the engine mount bolts to take tension off the belt, but the problem I have is getting it off the rear cone pulley.
When I turn key on it makes a loud tick tick noise and doesn't start
The cutting deck height on my Stockman3 is set too low. Even with the height lever fully up I get a manicured lawn cut. This makes it impossible in long grass! How do I adjust the minimum height, and thereby increase the maximum cutting height?
Phil. You will have to look underneath from the right hand side at the rear of the cutter deck. It sounds like the rear supporting rod has become detached from the frame of the cutter deck allowing the cutter deck to drop right down. The Rod is adjustable and has a right angled bend. That bend slots into a hole in the upper part of the cutter deck and holds it up. It is usually secured with a feeble little split pin. I replaced it with a decent split pin when this happened to me. It will be immediately apparent when you take a look. Let us all know how you go. Cheers. Dean.
Thanks Dean, I’ll check it. However, the deck height has been this low since new. Regards, Phil
Hi Stockmam Ser. III Replaced drive belt .Now the mower surges ,stutters going forward, backwards is smooth. Any suggestions please .Main axle, bearings , and drive chain replaced .Any suggestions what to look for ? Thks
The main drive belt must be adjusted by undoing the motor mounting bolts and use a pry bar to ensure that adequate tension is applied by moving the motor either forwards or back. Also ensure the drive chain idler pulleys have a spring tension fitted to them. One spring tensions both idlers. Also if the mower has some hard or extended hours use, like is it an old mower, then check the drive shaft bearings as they can bind up due to a worn/mis-shaped ball bearing. This also applies to the blade cutter disc bearings as well. Even though I am a mechanic I take mine to my Cox Dealer to have these bearings fitted because it is not expensive and they have the parts. Cheers.
Thks Dean , I'll check that out
How to tighten/adjust cutter bar/blade drive belt. New has been fitted, still slips
The belt is adjusted by loosening the bolts that mount the motor and sliding it forward until the correct tension is found. You need some sockets and other spanners and a pry tool. Plus it would be a very good idea to read the manual and if you don't have one then download it. If all else fails your local Cox distributor can help you out.
I have a Cox New Era 17hp mower with 500 hours on the clock. Yesterday while cutting the rear axle snapped in half right at the side of the big cog which the chain runs around. I thought a part like that would be impossible to break. It was only cutting short grass with no load. Anybody else experience this .Right at the start of Spring and all.
I have a Cox 1332 Ride On & have owned it for over 10 years with relatively few problems . The latest issue with it is the small arm that is operated by the Height adjuster lever ,which raises the cutter deck at the rear has broken away from the shaft , (which the height adjuster lever activates) . It needs rewelding . To do this is it possible to remove this shaft , or does it require cutter deck & motor/ fuel tank removal so that it can be welded on the body itself
Hi Jim. That shaft is welded into the chassis, and yes the deck and engine will have to come off to get access, and the fuel tank will have to come out (for fire safety reasons). Thanks
My steering has got very hard what should I be looking to fix ?
A quick fix is to remove the grease nipples on the front king pins and let some WD49 soak down to the king pins. You will need to do this at least 3 times and spray WD40 on the steering chain and into the steering rod sleeves as they get very dry and bind. Replace the grease nipples. Observation is the best bet. Also use WD40 on the chain and tensioners every time you use it. Stuff needs lubrication and protection from grass containing moisture.
Tried it worked wonders, thanks Dean P saved me a lot of stuffing around ,
I am changing the rear tyres on my mower and the tyres seem to be stuck is there any reason why
Tyres or RIM stuck ?? I had to use a large HAMMER &. A 3x2 to loosen & remove rim/then remove tyre …. Cheers Ray
The plastic steering box isn’t connecting to the shaft coming out the bottom, how do I tighten it. The steering isn’t turning. The steering wheel & box are.
W hat are the sleeves
