Daikin Cora

On the 16th of July I purchased a $3400 Daikin Cora 6kw to be installed. The refrigeration engineers did a very neat job installing it (very happy). HOWEVER when the power was switched on it instantly fried. The refrigeration engineers apologised and said they'd need to speak to Daikin. They phoned Daikin for a few days but Daikin never returned… Read more · 2
there call. So I phoned Daikin and got through after a long wait. I have now been given a job number and was told due to the fact of a long wait list, my unit may not be looked at until a long delay (until my job number comes up). A Daikin technician called and told me he has to order the parts. I have talked to the Daikin Technician and he's still waiting for parts. This is a brand new install in the middle of winter. This is one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made. Daikin products are junk and fry instantly one powered. Daikin service is terrible to deal with. There whole service process stinks. If I new what I know now, I would never have bought Daikin. Beware!!!! By a different brand. Look at the Daikin Product review Page, it says it all. Poor product, poor service.
Update, Daikin has fully repaired my unit with all new electronics. I feel I was way too harsh now and I apologise to Daikin. Daikan stood behind their warranty.
Whether this unit will work for you or not is dependent on whether your technician does the installation properly, so it's important to consult an experienced and reputable business. Daikin units are very well built hence why they are more expensive, they are essentially coined "the Toyotas of air conditioners." It cools and heats my apartment… Read more · 1
very efficiently. It uses R32 refrigerant. The outdoor condenser is very quiet and won't be loud if it is mounted properly. It might be mounted onto rubber shocks that allow for vibrations to be absorbed which is beneficial.
Terrible rubbish unit! Only 3 months old and so many issues, fan and fan blade replaced, rattling, vibrating on outside unit and ticking inside! It is also soooo loud and xieant cope well with frosty morning! Unit was pulled apart to many times until I said enough is enough! Unit being removed and refunding my $$ putting a different brand in. Cool, Quiet & Reliable – Context: - I installed the new 3.5kW for a large room (5x5m), which replaced an existing 2.5kW Aircon. The house is brick-vineer. I use the the room regularly as a classroom for my tutoring which often sits 10 students. The complain that it's too cold sometimes and personally, that's a win. So far, I have use it from Sep 23 to Jan 24… Read more · 1
(spring-summer period) and I find it very reliable, cool and quiet.
Pros: - Intuitive remote, nice and sleek design - Indoor unit is nicely designed with clean lines and not distracting
Cons: - It CAN get too cold if you sit directly under it for a length period, so If you have many people in the room, the people sitting closest to the unit will get cold and those further away have just enough. This means you'll need to adjust the temperature/turn it off&on to control the temperature to suit everyone in the room.
Overall: - Recommend this brand, model and size for large living rooms.
Tip: - Choose a reputable installer who deal with Daikin on a regular basis
Excellent, quiet unit – This unit is quiet and efficient. I have one in our lounge room and one in our large kitchen/dining room and cannot fault them. I set them on the timer so they automatically come on at 9am and turn off at 5pm each day - its super easy to set up. I like the sensor function that turns off the air conditioner if you are not in the room and turns it back on if you re enter. Show details · 1
Great – We have two Cora's in the house now, a 7kw in the lounge and 3.5 in the bedroom. These replaced older Daikin's and the difference is incredible. The power saving on our bill is probably a good 50% at least to what we were paying! We'd use the old ac's very sparingly and only when unbearably hot due to costs to run but now joke with each other… Read more
saying these one's are free, lol. We run them almost all the time now without worrying about the power bill. It's fantastic
They're both very quiet, old ones were making funny gushing air sounds and no one could work out exactly why so these are like a Godsend. Cool really quick too, great features on remote. Worth the cash outlay for sure
We've only recently found out there's an indoor, and outdoor 'quiet' mode. We thought just having the fan speed set to lowest setting was quiet.. Well with quoet mode on we think it's too quiet! So prefer the faintest bit of sound while sleeping and don't use it. That's how quiet these things can be
Both installers told us they have Cora's throughout in their own homes so thar should tell you something

watch TV undisturbed. It also wakes us during the night when the temperature drops, even though it’s in quiet mode. Indoor FTXM7IQVMA serial # E042770 Outdoor RXM7IQVMA serial # E042306 Purchased on 14/6/2019, Inv P038594 The indoor casing was replaced in early 2020, under warranty due to poor installation. We have had the unit serviced regularly, the air conditioning technicians cannot find the source / repair the noise and as the unit is now about of warranty I was referred to the Daikin Help Desk. When our home was built in 2019, we requested and paid extra to have the Daikin system installed, based on Daikin's reputation for quiet efficiency. Friends and Family who live in Tasmania, have had Daikin and Mitsubishi air conditioners / heat pumps for the past 16 & 17 years, no problems. So, we did not expect to have a noise issue with our Daikin air conditioner when we've only been using it for under six years! Daikin sells itself on quiet efficiency and that is why we decided to install a Daikin air conditioning unit in our newly built Tasmanian home instead of Mitsubishi. However, this is not the case with our Daikin unit, it is not living up to its reputation. Buyer beware of Daikin products, you will be disappointed.
Follow-up · Daikin management did eventually assist. The air conditioner was not replaced but was basically rebuilt over a few visits until finally the problem was pinpointed. Now the unit performs as expected, quietly and efficiently and has been doing so for the past three months. Thank you, when it’s running properly, it’s great!

Dies after 12 months – Died approx. 12 months after professional installation [previous unit, don't recall what brand, replaced under a recall]. Fixed under warranty. Another 12 months & it died again, no longer under warranty. Don't like the remote layout & the heat & cool icons are to similar in design. No display on the wall unit, nor any controls aside from on/off.

Over rated – Just purchased a new 5Kw Daikin Cora. This is my second Daikin and this one replaces an old Panasonic 5Kw reverse cycle A/C. The remote of the Daikin is at best sluggish. It’s surprisingly loud and has a much larger footprint yet somehow still doesn’t cover the area the old unit covered so some repainting was required. I’m underwhelmed by the performance for the price. Show details

Unit died 11 months out of warranty – Cooling was great. But they just don't last. Unit caused a short after 11 months out of warranty. The 3.5kw unit cost almost the same amount to just to repair so now I'm being forced to install a new unit. This is the second Daikin that has died on me only just months after warranty. Poor Design - Not Well Thought Out – I have two Daikin Cora split systems in my home. I am less than impressed. I don't like the way the air is sent to the ceiling in the theory that cold air sinks and will therefore eventually hit you (by which time, it has warmed up). I would rather have the cold air streamed out as it used to be. The air temperature does not seem to be… Read more
consistent, and tests with a thermometer confirm this. I wake in the night, and have to throw my doona off as it is so hot, despite the temperature being set at 21-22 degrees. I have never had this problem with either of my two previous air conditioners.
The remote control increases/decreases by a half a degree increments. This is just downright annoying. Does anyone really need a difference of a half a degree? It means going from 24 degrees to 22, requires 4 presses, rather than 2. Not a big deal until you are trying to change the temp in the middle of the night. Beep, beep, beep, beep. Also, the unit does not show the temperature, so if you have the remote pointing slightly off from the unit, you will think you have a certain temperature set, but will have no idea that you missed! There is no way to check.
The after sales customer service is not great either. As at Jan 2023, there is a five week wait for a service, and Perth has not even had any runs of hot temps as we normally would. Also, I tried to purchase the deodorising filters which should be replaced every three years. The filters cost $12 + GST. Postage costs a whopping $22! That is more than the filters and there is nothing to them. They measure 25cm x 4cm and weigh next to nothing. There is no way that Australia Post is going to charge $22 to send these. Someone is making a profit!!
Despite having filters, the unit gets very, very dusty. I have no idea where the dust is getting in, but clearly the filters do not do the job they're made for.
I wish I had done my homework before I bought.
My advice is to steer clear. There are better air cons out there.
Since writing this review, I have received a quote to clean the coils of ONE ONLY air conditioner - that would be the coils which the filters do not protect from dust - $394 (Feb 2023)!! (Note as at Dec 2023, the price has increased to $467.50 which means two cleans will not cost the entire amount to buy both and indoor and outdoor unit) Beware!! This will be an annual cost (which will no doubt increase annually) to have the coils cleaned because of the bad design! This company, which used to be both the best in design and customer service is now just about the price gouging! I will never buy another Daikin product and am seriously considering dumping the unit (which is still in warranty) and buying something which works and has better after sales service.
Update 04/02/2023 Following Daikin's message below, I emailed them as they requested. To date, I have not had a reply. I think this epitomises their customer service strategy.
Update 13/02/2023 I'm still waiting for Daikin to contact me. I won't be adding any further updates unless they contact me. If you see no further updates, you know what I am saying about their customer service is absolutely spot on. Either way, just note this was published Jan 26th. Daikin asked me to contact them on Jan 27th. It has now been almost three weeks and they have not replied to the email they requested from me. Buying a Daikin means no after sales care. Fingers crossed you buy one that never fails.
As at 7 December 2023, I am still awaiting a reply.

damage evident. A power surge was offered as a possible suggestion but I have my second smaller unit installed on the same day is still working fine. It certainly should have lasted longer and 9 months past its warranty. It isn't acceptable. It will cost $900 to repair by Daiken , All up almost $1100 after call out fees to diagnose , on a $1900 unit? That is just over 5 years in operation? I really don't think this meets a consumer guarantee for a product. I expected a lot more out of this brand in longevity. I had research various brands and specifically asked for Daiken as a brand to be installed given its reputation. I feel like I have made a huge mistake. Big dissapointed. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Annoying rattle – Have one in my bedroom that has developed a really annoying ticking noise. Hard to sleep but even worse with having it turned off in the Brisbane summer. Very Noisy – It seems like this particular Cora model makes loud clicking noise due to design flaws. Too noise in SL mode, sound level is 40dBA – We installed this split system in 2017. In the day one we had found the sound level in SL mode is louder than what Daikin mentioned in website. my past experience in my parents home. The statement is truth, but for what we installed in our home isn't true.
Now, the noise level of SL mode is coming to 40 dBA. When the temperature reached, the sound will stop. When the temperature lower than seting, the sound will start again.
I measured the sound level. Without the sound, the background level is 30dBA With the sound, I could get the 40dBA.
I can't accept it. I had written to Daikin again, and hope they could try to fix the problem.
As for my installer..... he has disappeared since he got all the payment.
Noisy design fault – The units heat and cool very well but I should have read the reviews about rattles. It is impossible to sleep with this unit on due to the magnetic rollers which fail. issue.
These were sold to me as a premium product but are far more noisy than the cheap units they replaced.
Edit: Daikin have contacted me to try and rectify the problem. Their repairer has diagnosed that a gromet and bearing need to be replaced (which is apparently different from the magnetic rollers which have been replaced several times). I will update this post once the repair is completed.
Edit 2: The unit has now been “repaired” by the Daikin service agent and still rattles. These units have now been looked at 4 times and are still unfit for purpose.

Very bad build qaulity – I'm an installer of air-conditioning and I used to only ever recommend Daikin due to their qaulity and installation method, but ever since they have bought out their new models they are just bad build quality and not installer friendly. Works well quiet efficient complex and simple settings – Used to cool when over 35degC Works well to warm. Not used much in 5 years as we have shade and a BreezAir evaporative cooler and Gas heating for winter.. Works well if we have been out on hot days and upon return to cool the kitchen and family room quickly then it goes into idle and works quietly with gentle breeze. We keep the unit outside covered from the weather. We check on leaves building up around it, and blow them away..
The worst - so noisy! – I had this unit installed in my bedroom. It makes clicking sound. They send person to check it - some kind of roller is replaced - it still clicks. Doesn’t heat well – We had two of these units fitted. They work very well in summer, cooling the house down quickly and quite cheaply. In winter though they don’t work well at all. Disappointed with Quality – Daikin has a reputation for quality, however I feel this is unwarranted. My 7.1kw Cora unit developed an annoying ticking sound almost immediately after being installed. still seems quite unbalanced (you can feel the unit vibrating when it is running), and as a result, the unit's cheap plastic housing still rattles intermittently. I feel this might be easy to overlook on a cheap unit, but not given Daikin positions itself as a premium product, and charges accordingly.
