Nothing but trouble - Daikin are terrible – When its running the FTXS25GVMA works well, heating/cooling as required, developed some black mould 2 years in and learnt to clean that with a quarter teaspoon of clove oil to 1 litre of water mixture. I go through a control card every 12 - 18 months, each time after warranty ran out is $360 a pop (it seems the last control card lasted 5 years),… Read more

fan motor in the header unit started slowly dying after 5 years and here it is 11 years in and the compressor has died with a short to ground that turns off the earth leakage/RCD in the switch box. I was told Daikin is the best and clearly they are not, I have a Fujitsu already on the house 20 years old and works perfectly, serviced once for a blown fuse. I've had the Daikin serviced 9 times in 5 years, 10 if you count it removal for a new air conditioner to come that will NOT be another Daikin!

EDIT: I found my receipts and updated review accordingly

Good units, but one has developed a noisy compressor – As noted on this page, this particular model is discontinued. So, this review is more about the long term review of Daikin air conditioners. According to the sticker on the inside of my units, they were manufactured in December 2010. Both were installed in the children bedrooms. Unlike the Daikin …KVMA series (see other review), these units… Read more

have not had as many issues collecting dust on the coil and fan scroll. However, one of the two units developed a noisy external compressor within a few months of being installed. This was reported to the installer while still under warrantee, who was disinterested in investigating the matter. This particular unit now generates a loud rattling noise, proportional to how hard the compressor it is running. It is noisy enough to be clearly heard through a brick wall. That said, it still generates lots of cold air. Overall, these units are OK. They are certainly energy efficient and would be worth considering for installations with high usage.

Still running perfectly after 8 years – Cools and heats a large bedroom very effectively and efficiently. Have had zero issues with it over the entire time, and cannot fault it. Based in this hassle free experience, I turned to Daikin once more when I needed to install another unit recently in a different part of the house. I have to say that the decision to remain with Daikin for… Read more

the new purchase seems to be a good one too.

For a balanced view, the only negative that I can come up with for this unit is that as a bedroom unit, the little LED lights which indicate that the unit is operating is slightly too bright if the unit is installed directly above a bed and you like to sleep in absolute darkness. I "fixed" that issue by putting a piece of opaque electrical tape neatly over the LED lights.

Daikin is typically dearer than the competition, but when it just continues to work reliably for a long time, the higher price for better quality is long forgotten.

Very happy, after 7 years still runs like new – This unit is located in the bedroom and has performed flawlessly for 7 years now. Also have another much larger Daikin in the main living area, (also 7 years) which is just as good. Regular self service of the filters is easy to complete. Never had any problems. This unit is very quiet on night mode, which slows the indoor fan down to a gentle… Read more

cold draft. The only drawback of this particular unit is the side to side / left - right movement of the air flaps is manual only, it does auto up/down though. Never really considered this an issue due to its location in the bedroom, and I believe this had been updated in newer models anyway.

Works, but has flaws – This one provides both heating and cooling. It has a remote control with a basic set of features including a basic timer, fan speed control, temperature control, economical mode and motion sensor. It gets the job done, but it has some flaws. I believe the product is advertised as being quiet. It allows you to set the fan speed to "night mode".… Read more

Unfortunately, this doesn't help. (It might even make it worse.) This setting does slow the fan right down, but instead of hearing the typical white-noise sort of air conditioner sound, it makes intermittent hissing noises and all sorts of other disturbing noises. The plastic also makes cracking noises ranging from moderate to loud throughout the night. Even if you turn it off, if a unit in another room is on, this one still makes mild hissing noises and other disturbing noises. There is also an outdoor unit silent mode, which seems to be intended to stop the outdoor unit from making noise. Unfortunately, this has no effect; even when all units have this setting on, the outdoor unit still makes plenty of noise as usual. The lesson learned from this is that you should definitely not install this in a bedroom, despite the misleading marketing.

The product also features an automatic mode, which is intended to automatically control the room temperature to a certain temperature. I have found this to be not worth using; sometimes it will blow out hot air and other times it will blow out cold air. The room temperature fluctuates between hot and cold.

It also doesn't seem to be that good at maintaining a given temperature even when it is set to a cool-only mode or hot-only mode. The temperature still fluctuates.

Overall, the unit is functional, but it is not quiet and it is not too good at maintaining a given room temperature. Works, provides heating and cooling, fan-only mode, economical mode, customisable temperature, dehumidifying mode, reliable Not quiet at all despite advertising (not suitable for a bedroom), automatic mode is not very useful, not too good at maintaining a specified temperature
