issue is the thermal expansion of the unit creates cracking noise throughout use. Not at the start and end, but continually at various times. It seems to save costs Daikin reduced the quality and thickness of plastic and steel reinforcing quite significantly.
Aside from that, as others have said you can't use the external fresh air function on high, it's too noisy. The timer doesn't allow you to set the function cool/dry/heat/humidify. So if you had it on one setting during the day and a timer at night, and you forget to switch it to the function you want, then that won't work.
Things I do like are the electricity usage measure, the self-cleaning brushes, backlit display, and the fresh air (on low). The units are also more powerful than their specified wattage (e.g. the 2.5kw is about a 3.5kw, and the 5kw is about a 6kw). You can see this listed on the spec sheet maximum range, compared to other brands.
But the 2.5kw unit is too buggy to ever recommend.

Amazingly efficient, reliable, quiet – As of writing we've had the smallest FTXZ25N unit installed in our main living area (approx. 50 m2) for 3 years (since May 2015) to heat and cool. Fabulous machine – Agonised over this Daikin US7 2.5kW version for many months, but very pleased we went ahead with buying multiple units for different areas of the house. haven’t figured out how to run with just ventilation only with filtered air from outside (not cooling/heating). Less enthralled about the medium sized 3.5kw unit used in larger rooms (uses a lot more power). Supplied & installed by Eastwood Air and would generally recommend them.
Could not be better – I now have six of these units installed in my country Victoria home (Living areas x 2, bedrooms x 4). I replaced three older units and was so happy with them that I added three more. They have kept the place warm and cool now for 3 summers and winters without any problems. are just the best.
Power consumption is SO low, I can leave one on all night in the bedroom and it will only have used 1-2Kwh (each unit has a built in power meter so you can see what has been used).
The fact that the unit brings in fresh air prevents the room air becoming stale, and combined with the built in ioniser means the room air is always fresh.
I am now adding Wifi to all of them ($165 per unit), so I should then have central and remote control of the heating and cooling in the whole house.
Cool – I love our Daikin ac and we have two. One in a bedroom and one in the main living area. Only had ducted before the split system and the Daikin is so efficient and in 40 degree Adelaide heat we stay nice and cool. Quite quiet - can watch TV and have conversation easily. 7 star efficient – Its in a kitchen, dining lounge room 7x7m, replacement for raging 7.5kW. Although it's only 2.5kW, for quick response, it can overdrive itself to 7.5kW for 20minutes. With the 7.5kW, older and less efficient that we replaced, measuring day by day for full year, even though it was less efficient, it only used 10kWh for a full day, for a pair of seniors, mostly home all day, every day. Looks good – Great for our small room This unit heats and cools a large area without any issues, it make a noise but nothing to complain about. I like the powerful button the heats or cools things fast then when it gets to temperature the unit will slow down. The unit is very easy to use and came with a seven year warranty. Show details
Great air conditioner – We had our unit installed in Oct 2016 just before the Sydney summer heat wave and the unit has been wonderful! We were attracted to the 7 star energy rating and that hasn't disappointed us after reviewing the last two quarterly energy bills. Very quiet with great features.
