Don’t be fooled by the staff’s initial friendliness and helpfulness- it is a front to get you to buy. They have ZERO desire to help you and make things right. In fact they do not tell the truth and blame the customer for damage to the Demir Leather products even though it is obvious that some of the products are second hand and others have been damaged during transportation.

And just recently I’ve noticed that the leather is bubbling on the swivel chairs. Because I live on my own these chairs are hardly used. - see pictures.

I took Demir to NCAT because I could not get them to resolve the problems with the furniture I purchased from them. There were issues with ALL of the things I purchased. I believe several items were actually supplied to me second hand.

But they blamed me for all the problems with the furniture. There were so many issues and the thought of what I went through makes me feel sick and very disillusioned.

And NCAT was no more helpful and believed the stories presented by Demir rather than my story which has now been validated by TWO LEATHER EXPERTS.

NCAT ruled that some of the items be refunded and some to be repaired, but the sofa was excluded from that and I was left with a damaged, uncomfortable, wrinkled sofa. And look at it - would you like to live with that messy damaged leather sofa

So then I was advised to claim insurance, but their assessor maintained that the damage was done during transportation. And that is what I maintained to NCAT but I’ve been advised that their decision is final and now there is nothing I can do.

I’ve written to the ombudsman but have not heard back - so everyday I have to live with this damaged uncomfortable sofa and swivel chairs.

I suspect some of the products supplied were second hand. The rest of the products were terribly made and were of very poor quality. The lack of padding makes the seats very hard and uncomfortable to sit on.

1) Leather is damaged by cuts, dents and lumps and bumps - after many months Demir came and fixed the cut but it now is scarred. Demir blamed me for the excessive wrinkles and bumps on the right arm. They said putting a soft rug on the arm caused it to gather moisture - what rubbish!!! But NCAT believed them and I got no compensation. Two leather experts have since told me that the damage to the arm was most likely caused during transportation. Tried to claim insurance recently but it has been rejected because of the leather expert report.

2) The leather wrinkles badly when you sit on it - a leather expert agreed the wrinkling was excessive - the Demir manager told me to smooth it out each night - that makes no difference

3) The leather had writing on it - after several months Demir erased it. Demir told me this was normal but I suspect it was labeled as being damaged.

4) The dining table glass and base were scratched and dented and to me seemed to be second hand - Demir replaced the table after many months of me complaining but the replacement table was also damaged- the manager admitted to me that the replacement table had come from his own house and I should be grateful- he admitted it was second hand. NCAT ordered them to refund the table but not the chairs I bought from Demir to match. So I was left with dining chairs and no table to match.

5) The bases of the swivel chairs were different and both were scratched and dented and to me looked second hand. The circumference of one was about 20 cm the other about 30 cm - refer to pictures. NCAT ordered the bases to be replaced but initially they brought very short poles too low for anyone to use. Then they took the 2 chairs back to the factory- when the chairs arrived back one had a slash mark caused by a Stanley knife according to the leather experts.

6) The sofa is very uncomfortable to sit on and a leather expert says it has not got sufficient padding and that is why it’s wrinkling so badly and uncomfortable- the pictures of the sofa I took in the shop does not indicate any wrinkles

Do not trust them - they do not stand by their promises or products and they have no reference to warranty that I can find on the Demir website

I had to take them to NCAT and only then I got a partial resolution. I then tried to get insurance but that has been rejected so I’m left with an expensive product of no value.

This information provided within this report is only a professional opinion and recommendation. Request Inspection of damage to lounge. Information Report requested by IVAA to inspect reported damge to the lounge of customer, Mary Eastman. Site inspection carreid out Friday the 24th of January. Mary raised concerns with areas believed to be damaged at the time of delivery resulting in indentations and raised sections on the side of the lounge. Another concern raised was the rippling effect to leather on the cushion sections. Mary noted this occured after the first use and not rerturning to a smooth crease free surface as expected. Observation and assessment. Issue 1- Small raised circles on left side of lounge. This appears to be caused by an external physical force on the surrounding areas. The leather surface has come into contact with a hard object behind the leather resulting in the leather stretching around the circular object and causing a raised small circle when returning back to the natural positon. Refer to photo 1. Issue 2- Randomised indent pattern on side of armrest. The armerest indent has been caused by an external physical force. The leather hasn't been damaged, but I believe the supporting foam has been crushed or permanently indented behind the leather surface. This is now not properly supporting the surface and causing the leather to rest back into the damaged foam gap underneath. Refer photo 2. Issue 3- Ripples in the leather surface located on the seat cushions. Excessive creasing and puddling effect on the surface is a standard sign of everyday use of a leather product. This effect can be exacerbated if a softer foam construction is used, inner spring supports are not used, or ill fitment of the leather cover. This is not a sign of poor construction, merely a comfort preference by the manufacturer for the end customer. The level of rippling for a almost new lounge does apears to be higher than usual. Refer to photo 3. Repair and recommendation. Issue 1 - Repair, Fill and recolour to conceal cut/tear. This can be carried out by Devine Leathercare Issue 2 - No repair method available to rectify issue. Issue 3 - No repair method available to repair issue. Notes. Mary noted previous assessment responses to her issue and all points did not allign to my findings. A simple lack of care during the trasnportation for the lounge appears to be the issue.

This whole episode has caused me enormous stress but I’m not giving up - Demir MUST be accountable.

Next stop is the ombudsman which I’m struggling to do - three years on and I’m still upset about my purchase from Demir Leather. The worst purchase I’ve ever made in my life - it is a BAD decision to buy from Demir.

Demir has been the worst experience I’ve ever had. As the sofa and chairs get older they are getting shabbier and shabbier and more uncomfortable. I compared mine to a similar leather sofa my friend purchased long before mine and the difference is like chalk and cheese- hers still looks fabulous and is very comfortable- mine looks aged and very shabby and so uncomfortable.

I’ve recently had a second leather expert sent by my insurance company who also disagreed with NCAT and Demir -refer to the 3 images taken by the expert with the problems circled on red.

I’ll post more as I get the information.

I found my Demir Leather products to be of very poor quality and the leather wrinkles and ages very badly. In fact I am sure that several items supplied to me were second hand. BEWARE - do not be charmed by their pretence of caring about you and your purchases. Once they have your money they will not care!!

They do not have a warranty statement on their website

Don’t buy from Demir they take no responsibility- most of the furniture I purchased was damaged in some way. The bases of the swivel chair were scratched and damaged and obviously second hand AND they were different sizes- NCAT ordered them to be changed but when they returned one was cut.

Refer to the photo to see what your Demir lounge will look like after sitting on it a few times. Compare it to the one from the show room.

Even Demir’s own brand cushions were delivered with dents

I took my complaint to ACCC and NCAT but really did not get the outcome I expected- Demir blamed me for the damage- Really!! And NCAT believed their story over mine as far as the sofa goes

entered the store, I knew we were at leather heaven coz I can smell and saw many beautiful sofas.

The owner was very friendly and so is the lady accounts manager. The owner showed and informed us the different types of leather. He also gave suggestions, colour etc. Our sofa was tailored made, we were told that we will have to wait for 4 months but we got the sofa earlier than 4 months.

I guess the main reason that we end up buying from Demir was the customer service and of course the impeccable quality of their sofa.

So, if you are planning to buy a leather sofa, Demir leather is highly recommended.

went into the showroom the following weekend, accompanied by my friend. It turns out the wrong lounge model number was entered on the order/invoice, it was inferred that it was my fault for not checking the number, I was abused and intimidated by the store manager. At no time would Demir accept that they made a mistake. The store manager even tore up my invoice/receipt and threw it on the floor. They accused me of just changing my mind, in other words they were calling me a liar. They refused to collect the lounge from my house in fact I was told they would not be collecting a "used" lounge. To cut a long story short, in the end I had to take the matter to Consumer Affairs and then to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Fortunately, I was awarded a full refund, it was found that Demir had breached Consumer Law, by this time it was 10 months since I first ordered the lounge. It was a very long and stressful experience, which involved 2 appearances at the Tribunal, a lot work to get all the evidence together as well as statutory declarations, going to the Tribunal is very difficult and costly. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Faulty product. Terrible follow up and customer service.

Bought an expensive leather suite from Demir Leather in Chatswood. All smiles and keen until the deal was done. The salesman said the furniture was guaranteed for life (whose? Not sure!). However, the delivery was delayed to after Christmas although promised before Christmas and now it has been over a year when we have tried to get them to fix the swivel chair which was faulty. They took it away 3 months after initial complaint, returned 2 months later, still not fixed. I have since called several times but no one seems to return calls and if they answer they say they have to call back and no one calls back. This has been going on for a year! Still waiting for chair to be fixed!

Two years waiting, would not provide a refund - 100% refund awarded by NSW Civil & Administrative Tribunal in March 2022 – After 2 years or damaged sofas being delivered and waiting for replacement, the wrong sofa was delivered and chairs delivered were not as ordered. a very poor level for a company that has been operational for many years, they even use hotmail.com as their email address. There are no surnames on any of their communication, even their "personalised" business cards only state their first name. Demir Leather do not itemise anything on an invoice which further confounds issues. Demir Leather failed to respond to emails. Demir Leather failed to answer questions about delayed delivery.

Disappointed with Service – Bought an entertainment unit in March 2021- delivery people took the unit out of the box on the road and brought it up the stairs without securing the door or it's drawers.
