Please be careful with this company, I ordered a pair of ugg boots that was promoted as being genuine sheepskin, the lining is synthetic, I was then charged through my credit card $129 for a membership that I did not agree to knowingly . Bad experience overall and such a pain disputing it. Will be contacting consumer affairs regarding this issue.

Received my Dyson Cyclone vacuum as ordered. All in perfect working order. Had to buy a stand for 100 dollars as it only comes with a wall stand that I cannot use as I rent . Happy with purchase. Show details

Only to find out after 14 days that they have deducted $129 from your account for the yearly membership that you inadvertently purchased just by buying something from their website. “ Controversy. Consumers groups and watchdogs have criticised the program for using pre-ticked opt in boxes during on line checkouts that inadvertently enrol customers into the trial” I suggest pay a little more but from an honest and reputable company.

recover the money, my bank said they do this stuff all the time and its not right, cancelled my cards, and ask them to recover the money, because Dick Smith basically said we have your money to bad.

Watch out for Dick Smith "SHIFTY" they automatically sign you up for a $129.00 membership fee without telling you. Ithought I was buying a phone wallet delivered for $23.96

expected to leave the warehouse until months later. I needed the product then. I considered the way the product had been advertised and its availability misleading, so I cancelled the order and Dick Smith refunded it. I wanted nothing further to do with the transaction.

I did NOT sign up for FIRST. I did NOT agree to an annual subscription. I did NOT authorise recurring payments.

Despite this, $129 was taken from my account on 23 August 2025 and another $129 was taken on 23 August 2026. That is $258 taken from my bank account without my consent.

I consider these unauthorised transactions to be fraudulent activity and I have demanded the entire $258 be returned.

When I investigated what had happened, I discovered something even more concerning.

In 2024, the New Zealand Commerce Commission publicly warned Kogan Australia Pty Ltd, trading as Dick Smith, after investigating its FIRST subscription practices. Dick Smith had been using pre-selected fields that could result in consumers acquiring FIRST subscriptions they had not intended to acquire. Following regulatory intervention, Dick Smith reportedly stopped using those pre-selected fields and changed its process so consumers would have to actively sign up for FIRST.

Yet consumers are STILL reporting unexpected FIRST membership charges.

I have collected numerous recent consumer complaints covering the period since my own transaction. Again and again, consumers report FIRST membership charges they say they never knowingly signed up for, consented to or authorised. Many report the same $129 charge.

I am one of those consumers.

I never knowingly signed up for this paid membership. I never authorised these recurring charges. Dick Smith/Kogan took $258 from my bank account without my consent.

There are also numerous consumer complaints about misleading product availability, cancelled orders, products subsequently being unavailable and difficulties obtaining refunds. My own FIRST membership arose around an order that I cancelled after discovering the product availability and dispatch timeframe were not what I had expected when ordering.

BEWARE. If you have ever purchased through Dick Smith or Kogan, check your bank statements and PayPal account. Check whether FIRST has been attached to your account and whether membership fees have been taken without you realising it.

I want my $258 returned immediately.
