Good value and expert service
When looking for windows we ended up being quite confused by the glass and other requirements of our build. Thankfully we found that Dowell could help us to understand the requirements and managed to specify windows that complied with the bushfire and noise restrictions that we had for our new house.
We have now moved in to our new house and we could not be happier. The windows look great and we find that we cannot hear the traffic from the nearby main road.
Thanks for your expertise and great windows. We especially love our big stacking door leading to our entertaining area!
If your builder uses these, run!
Long time in coming this review......re-doing flywire screen and finding broken top tensioners has pushed me.
Double glazed windows and doors went in during framing, immediately a loud whistling noise. Complained several times to builder until he complained load enough to Dowell the sent a team from Melbourne and had a look. Rated wind category 3 which is ample for our area, but the wind was pushing the sliding doors in so much it was breaking the seal around the sliding door and whistling. They said oh that is normal! Ended up with a dodgy f...ix that we need to re-fix now and then as the tape they used falls out. In a wind now, the door seals leak and we get cold air in the house. So much for paying extra for double glazing, what a waste of money. Now, fixing fly wire in the screens and all the top tension "springs" are broken, made of cheap plastic that just breaks. Went on their website, cannot buy parts. The anodizing on screen doors no longer matches the window/door frames and the frames don't match the colorbond due to fading. Not a good product. Stay away. Building again now, looking at the Trend windows and it seems a much better prospect.
Worst product and ever worst customer service ever
3 years ago built with HGWA. They used Dowell windows as their preferred product. Since our build, Dowell have attended 8-10 times to repair multiple leaking windows. All the fixed panels of the Awning windows are held together with double side tape. This fails every couple of months thus the recalls. Worst ones are the ocean facing windows, the Technician said to was the Sand & Salt as the contributing cause. Since 5th October I have called HGWA for Dowell to attend. Dowell cancelled two time causing us to have more time off work to be home if they attend..
We have recently moved into our new home, and our builder fitted Dowell, doors and windows, and we are extremely happy with the quality.
We built in a very high wind area, and the sliding door, was affected with a loud whistling noise when we had high winds, so we contacted Dowell in Canberra to see if they were able to advise on how we could minimise the noise.
The staff and Manager were very helpful and advised that they would arrange a service call to assist with our concern. Their service man, Paul, was outstanding, he ensured that the is...sue of concern was addressed. Paul also checked all of our other windows and doors to also ensure that there was no issues with them as well. Thank you Dowell, for providing such outstanding service and follow-up support. Such poor customer service
Our house was built in 2015 and our builder ordered the windows through Dowell. 3-4 months ago a ‘heat crack’ appeared in one of the windows. Our builder attempted to contact Dowell, and a representative came to quickly say it wasn’t warranty, but measured to fit new glass, which we were willing to pay for.
After multiple calls to follow this up (not only by the builder, but us as well), back and forth over the past few months, speaking to staff who want to pass the buck and not getting an answer until getting crabby on the phone, we have deci...
What a joke!buyer beware.
I've done an extension at my house and the first stage Windows I had to send three or four Windows back and was delayed on the build .the second stage of Windows have been delivered and after the builder spent 3 or 4 hrs going through the measurements the Windows are wrong height and a different colour! I thought Dowell and the builder had it sorted so I signed the quote and now I have to remove bricks to get them to fit and deal with a house with paperbark and promise colour Windows! Never again will I use Dowell.even though you have in depth conversations and spend time with the reps etc check everything twice guys don't make the same mistake I did
Thank you for the service. guys have attended and fixed all the problems. Also want to call out that during the visit guys have also identified another problem with installation and have fixed it. Greatly appreciated attention and willingness to go beyond and help customer. Your people are great representation of your company.

Great customer service, answered every question and we are very happy with the windows!
Thank you to Tim and the team at Dowell. Great customer service, answered every question and we are very happy with the windows. Our Dowell windows are 14 years old and we haven't had issues with them. We needed a new window for a Reno and Tim and the team were more than happy to help out with sizes, widths, reveals etc.
Do not meet their own specifications
We built a new house and Dowell was used throughout, all double glazed. From the day they were installed we had problems with the sliding glass doors. Whenever the wind blew, the doors whistled. We had support staff out, sales staff out and finally their "engineers". The windows were rated for class 3 wind zone, so over 80km/hr but these windows whistled and leaked air at 30km/hr! They did not even meet their own design specifications for wind rating. Fly screens on windows and doors are not UV resistant and have fallen apart after less than three years. Terrible product. Do not use!
Stressed. Will never use again or reccomend.
Dowell were the company to install windows for my built home. We did not have contact with this company until after moving in and needed things to be repaired or replaced. There were 4 jobs which needed doing and someone was sent out promptly to fix one of them. We asked about the other things and he didn’t eve know about them. He took photos of the other issues and said he would get them to the right people. Also told us that they did not do fly screens, which is correct in that Dowell windows don’t make them, was incorrect in that Dowell wind...ows organises them. Not sure how you cannot know what your company does…A few weeks go by and I ring the company. They have forgotten about the work again, and consistently every week for the next 3 months (my building company was in contact too). At one point I was called by Dowell and given an apology for the appalling service where they ‘dropped the ball’. No fixes given and no change in company actions (nothing). Every time I called I ended up speaking to the same person, who each time asked me to give all details of the job and assured they would be in contact, which they never were. It wasn’t until 4 months later that I snapped that my jobs got done. Very stressful, would never recommend.
Dowell Window are really bad
I had to wait from may 2018 for my fly screens till September 2018 and when they delivered to install they were short of some sliding doors and im still waiting for the rest of them after 2 months. By the way this is not PRW fault, it is definitely Dowell Windows Fault.

Amazing customer service and quality product and a very competitive price
My experience with Dowell was amazing. I was working on a special project for a lady who had been through a very difficult time. It was a surprise bathroom renovation whilst my client and her kids were overseas with extremely tight deadlines. Dowell were able to fastrack the order to help with this special project. This was just icing on the cake as before they had agreed to push this job through as quick as possible, I had already chosen to go with Dowell due to their friendly customer service over the phone, very competitive pricing and an e...xcellent experience in person at the showroom. The fact they delivered way sooner than expected was amazing. I was able to get the job done in time for a completely overwhelmed and grateful client. I would not hesitate to use Dowell any time in the future. These experiences are rare in my experience. Thank you to all the team at Dowell.
Great product for the price
I just had my Dowell double glazed sliding door installed , I am very happy with the price and quality of this door. For a middle of the range product it is fantastic. And staff were very helpful, I was a bit worried with some reviews but even builders who installed it were impressed.
Happy with products and after sales service
House lot of windows delivered and installed by builder, really happy with quality and appearance, installer came afterwards to fit screens and he went around and checked all windows and doors were operating ok, happy with overall experience with company

Windows don't close properly - undoing all the benefit of double glazing!
I had Dowell timber awning windows installed throughout our new townhouse. I didn't select the windows - they were detailed in the Energy Rating report prepared and the DOW-005 window was the one listed.
The timber surrounds look nice and came up well with paint. However, the windows do not properly lock or seal when closing them with the window winder. You can tighten the winder as far as possible, but you can still feel a draught coming through. We have since had plantation shutters installed and you can feel a big temperature differen...ce in the space between the glass and the shutter. In addition, whenever there is a car passing by or a wind blowing, the noise squeezing through this gap is very loud. We raised this with Dowell when the house was completed and they attended to inspect. I was given a line that because an acoustic report was not requested as part of the build, they weren't responsible for noise coming through and that as the windows had a rubber seal installed, that it met all requirements. Basically - they told me to get lost. As I live on a busy street, noise was a large concern - so much so that I had retrofit glazing installed, the window winders removed and the open-able windows permanently fixed with caulk. The installer told me that he had to use more caulking on these windows than he's ever experienced. The difference - even when the windows had just been caulked was enormous. The benefit of the having the extra glazing installed is incredible. Reality is - these windows do not prevent draughts and therefore heat in summer and cold in winter just enters the house. They require a very heavy duty and custom built seal to do the job you think they're going to do. My advice is stay away from this type of window.

Questions & Answers
I can see daylight through the corner joint of the dowell windows, doesn't seem good heating and cooling efficiency? Is this what it is supposed to look like?
I found that Dowell was excellent to deal with, so I suggest that you also contact them for their advice. My problem was easily fixed with new seals being installed, as we live in a very high wind area.
Hi Brendan B,
We are sorry to hear the issues you are having surrounding the corner joint of your Dowell Windows. I need to see actual photos of these windows to assist further.
May I ask you to please send me some photos of these area's along with your contact details, including site address and I will then make contact with you directly.
Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks for reviews. They supply Hotondo. Based on above we won’t ring using Dowell windows in our new home. They sound like really bottom of the market rubbish
