could get council sign off. Several months later, we’re still waiting for our back screen door to be installed! It’s been measured but zilch installation.
Update: finally got the screen door installed a couple of weeks ago and when finished, found the screen damaged. The installer said he’d come back to replace the screen but no sign of them even after contacting Dowell directly.
Follow-up · After another poor review, Dowell finally finished the back door. While we’re glad it’s now all over, the difficulty in trying to get them to engage with us was horrendous. My builder was delayed in getting the final certification which meant he couldn’t start his new job for a few weeks. He will never use Dowell again and I wouldn’t recommend them either as I am not convinced they have improved their communication with customers.
Extremely disappointed. Avoid Dowell Windows if you value reliability and quality. I’ve had a terrible experience with their service. First of all, they had multiple no-shows without any prior notice, wasting my time. 3 which is ample for our area, but the wind was pushing the sliding doors in so much it was breaking the seal around the sliding door and whistling. They said oh that is normal! Ended up with a dodgy fix that we need to re-fix now and then as the tape they used falls out. In a wind now, the door seals leak and we get cold air in the house. So much for paying extra for double glazing, what a waste of money. Now, fixing fly wire in the screens and all the top tension "springs" are broken, made of cheap plastic that just breaks. Went on their website, cannot buy parts. The anodizing on screen doors no longer matches the window/door frames and the frames don't match the colorbond due to fading. Not a good product. Stay away. Building again now, looking at the Trend windows and it seems a much better prospect.

Dowell sliding doors leak – 2 panel and three panel Dowell sliding doors leak allowing water into wall cavity. Thousands of dollars damage to walls and skirting boards. Dowell deny any knowledge of supplying doors to the property despite having sent technicians to assess. Sliding doors are unfit for purpose.

Dont use Dowell. Arrogant and poor quality – We had a double glazed window that cracked six months after it was installed. Manufacturing fault as you could see a burr inside the double window. Initially very poor customer service - just ignored emails and phone messages. Once they responded they said not their issue. Cost $ 800 to put new glass in and zero concern from Dowell. If you are considering Dowell - dont - go somewhere else.
Further contact has resulted in no response from Dowell. They really dont care about their products or their customers

Caught in the middle in the cold on a windy day – Bought a new home which has Dowell windows and a sliding door. In the first wind the Four Panel Urbanline sliding door with a Carey Twin Break Lock managed to flex so the lock jammed. be right now mate. Dowell then sent a repair man from Melbourne who placed white mastic to all the joins that you could see outside! He came twice. The second time, he stated to me that he couldn’t give me his opinion anymore cos he got in trouble from the boss. His opinion was that all the sliding doors should be replaced. I called the contractor who installed all the doors and windows. He said to me that all the sliding doors were the wrong doors and should never been installed in the first place. Don’t ever use Dowell Windows – Dowell Windows were hired by my builder WA Building Company to supply and install window frames, double glazed windows and insect screens to my build. I had no say in choosing Dowell. There are black plastic strips screwed into the top, bottom and sides of all sliding windows across five rooms of the house. windows are not right and should not have these plastic strips. One awning window doesn't even touch the sides of the frame when closed. The insect screens are not wide enough. I can stick my finger in the gap between the screens and window frames. I am not getting the double glazing noise reduction or heat/cool retention benefits from these windows. I thought I paid for windows with made to measure glass frames that fit directly inside the window frame, like in every other house in the world. I was shocked to see all the black plastic strips. I think this is a hack job to cover a mistake. I asked WA Building Company to replace all of the windows that have the black plastic strips with proper fitting windows. Their response was to provide a letter from Dom Moschilla of Dowell Windows Bassendean (WA) enclosing a compliance certificate for my build. Dom is standing by the quality and workmanship of the windows and insect screens.

first time and he said that “Its not my problem get in touch with Dowell” I rang Dowell and they told me that “it is the problem of the installer” so all my double glazed windows DO NOT close properly and I have to fix it myself so their guarantee is not worth the paper it is printed on. On top of that when I went to get a quote form them (directly form Dowell, they gave me the name of the same installer when i said I wouldn’t have him on my premises again and said that none of their windows closed or opened properly I got abused and thrown out of the shop! I would give them a - star rating however 1 star is the lowest I can go. have been an attempted break-in. Told him we have a camera and its definitely from kids' footballs. He brushed me off. So get an email with a quote to fix for $800 - whilst still in warranty. Tried to call and speak to someone which is incredibly difficult. Finally spoke with someone and was basically told they will not be covering this. Their product is not good quality (the crim safe where it has come free has about 2mm of coverage and i honestly don't think it would sustain an attempted break-in) and its matched by the poor service from head office in Birsbane. I would never use Dowell again.

Poor Customer Service & Rough Service Work – I have three panel stacking patio doors that have experienced water intrusion and as such damaged surrounding skirting and door architraves. they did was silicon some sections inside. Remedy didn’t work and I continued to experience water intrusion into the house. Dowell Service Technician finally came out in July this year to fix leaking doors. Almost 8 months to get some response. What he did was an absolute rough and unprofessional job – he drilled multiple holes and then attempted to chisel out an opening – gave up on the rest and then paint the aluminum door black where it was exposed – which wasn’t even done properly as you can see the aluminum. He even managed to ruin the strip of silicon when reinstalling my security doors. This was back in early July. I have since contacted the service department and reception of Dowell windows many times (on average two to three times a week) with phone calls and emails and no action has been undertaken to remedy this situation. Not impressed with their poor customer service – product or after care service. I would seriously consider purchasing their products when building as it is extremely difficult to get assistance or support once the product is installed and you as a consumer begin experiencing problems. Unreliable and extremely poor customer service. They ruined the look of my doors.

Customer service has been absolutely awful. The staff have had no empathy towards us, I have had to call several times to follow-up with when the window will be getting fixed after trades have left following "assessment" with nil follow-up and we have not received a single apology any time we have called, even when I have directly outlined this to management. The staff don't seem to understand that it is a huge inconvenience taking time off work numerous times for trades to come for 5-mins and leave without resolution, not rock-up or be unable to fix the problem. Company is also not able to book in a specific time and work on a "we will call you before we arrive" basis, with this time having been as short as 10-mins prior in the past.
Long story short, disappointed and frustrated are both understatements and we can't wait to not have to deal with this company again.
