 AI reviews summary

Express Garage Doors generally receives positive feedback for its speed and emergency response capabilities, though it is currently facing significant criticism regarding pricing transparency and sales tactics. While many customers praise the technicians for their efficiency and professionalism, a distinct segment of users reports extreme price gouging and high-pressure upselling.

Pros
Rapid Response Time: Technicians frequently arrive within hours of a call, providing reliable same-day and after-hours emergency services, including on weekends.
Professional Technicians: Many staff members, specifically names like Oliver, Don, and Danny, are highlighted for being courteous, knowledgeable, and thorough in their explanations.
Efficient Workmanship: Standard repairs and motor replacements are often completed in under an hour, with many customers reporting that their doors operate more quietly and smoothly post-service.
Stock Availability: Technicians often carry necessary replacement parts, such as motors and cables, in their vans, allowing for immediate on-the-spot repairs.
Cons
Inconsistent Pricing and Gouging: There are recurring reports of exorbitant charges for minor tasks, with some customers paying over $400 for 15 minutes of lubrication or being charged significantly higher than initial phone quotes.
Predatory Sales Tactics: Multiple reviewers allege that technicians use "bait-and-switch" methods, claiming perfectly functional motors are "dangerous" or "failing" to pressure customers into expensive replacements.
Poor After-Sales Support: Customers who experienced issues shortly after a repair frequently report being ghosted by the call centre or told their work is out of a very short warranty period.
Review Solicitation Pressure: Some users noted being pressured to leave a 5-star Google review on the spot before they had time to properly assess the quality of the work.
Verdict

Express Garage Doors is a viable option for homeowners needing urgent, same-day repairs, provided they are comfortable with premium pricing. However, consumers should exercise caution by requesting a firm written quote before work begins and remain wary of high-pressure suggestions for total system replacements.

Great experience from the first call to the repair. Had Al the technician over to replace a new motor opener to our old garage door. Service was great and Al was very helpful. Explained the process and our options, also the price was reasonable. Would highly recommend!

Installer was prompt and explained the options available. He did advise the old remotes would work with the new motor but then after installing the motor couldn’t pair the old remotes and the new motor. This means we need two remotes, gate and garage door, not the best result. Also put unused metal brackets in the recycling bin and forgot to take… Read more

away the old rail and motor. Overall I believe we paid a premium price, for convenience but did not receive a premium result.

Appointment was for 11am, however the tech arrived at 1:15pm…besides that, he got the door going fairly quick. The dent in the door is still fairly profound after works completed.

Charged over $2000 for a max $1000 job replacing 2 springs and servicing. Springs were charged at $550 per but materials are nowhere near that price. Lubricated with WD40, which is a degreaser NOT a lubricant and not recommended by most garage door repair professionals. Technician had to come back 5 mins later as door wouldn't go all the way down.… Read more

Never quoted anything or told us terms & conditions until presented with invoice. Charged us ridiculous fee for weekend attendance plus service & installation. Massively overpriced and take advantage of people who are desperate and don't know better. My dad contacted them about their conduct, they refused any responsibility, have now reported them for their dodgy practices. Stay away.

‘Tom the chosen’ Had a great experience with Express Garage Doors. Tom worked quickly and efficiently, despite the heat, changing the motor, springs, wires and giving it a full service. He was upfront about pricing. Happy to have a functioning door again

After paying $850 for the first visit the door was broken again after 3 days. The same service man came and wanted to replace the motor instead of fixing the bent rails that were jamming the wheels. That was the second visit. I requested another serviceman who was great until he spoke to the previous guy and he wanted to charge even more to fix… Read more

the mistakes of the first service man. That was the third visit in less than two weeks. The photo shows what my roller door looked like after three visits. I called Grove Roller Doors and the were there the next morning, fixed all of the mistakes made by Express Garage Doors and it only cost $220. A vastly different response and prices. I'll never be recommending Express Garage Doors to anyone.

Great service, super friendly and quick. Wasn’t over priced and did a great job.

Follow-up  · Got door fixed…. 2 weeks later the door springs collapsed again. Tried giving them multiple calls to rebook but never got back to me. Was within the 3 month warranty but as they didn’t replace anything (only put the door back on its channel and tightened springs). I was not covered, not the best customer service at all unfortunately…

My initial experience with Express Garage Doors was very positive. I submitted an online enquiry on Friday afternoon and received a phone call shortly afterwards. I was offered a service appointment for Sunday between 11:00am and 1:00pm, which I accepted. I also received a follow-up call on Saturday afternoon confirming the booking. … Read more

Unfortunately, things went downhill from there.

The Sunday appointment window came and went with no technician arriving and no communication from the company. At approximately 3:30pm, I received a call from the technician advising he could be there in around 90 minutes.

The technician arrived at 4:45pm and inspected the door. He identified two broken hinges in the panel lift door but advised he did not carry the required replacement hinges and that repairing them properly would be complex. Instead, he suggested fitting external hinges as a workaround. While he acknowledged it was not an ideal solution, he believed it would get the door operational. I agreed and he proceeded with the installation.

On the very first test cycle, the door jammed. The internal hinges failed completely, one of the newly installed external hinges broke, and the second was pulled away from the metal frame.

The technician then removed the external hinges he had installed, advised me to contact the door manufacturer, and left.

With the help of my son, I was eventually able to manually force the door back into a closed and secure position. After doing some research myself, I located and ordered the correct replacement parts online for approximately $15 each.

While I appreciate that not every repair can be completed immediately, I was extremely disappointed with the outcome. The attempted repair left the door in a worse condition than when the technician arrived. If a technician does not have the correct parts or cannot confidently complete a repair, it would be better not to proceed rather than risk causing further damage.

Based on this experience, I believe additional technical training and better judgement regarding temporary repair solutions would benefit the company.

Whilst I have no way of knowing whether my garage door opener motor had actually failed or not, it was malfunctioning and had been in operation for over 10 years. The company were responsive and sent someone within 24 hours. Technician, Nick, "diagnosed" the problem, explained the issue to me in some detail and said he could replace the motor… Read more

within an hour as he had one in the van. I said he could come back next day because it was late and pouring rain, but he was quite insistent. He quoted a price that seemed quite high but, unable to secure any other company that day, I decided to go ahead. I did a quick search while he commenced and yes, the price was a little high and yes, the issues I was having could have been a worn out motor or, could also have been a worn out but replacable part. The end result is that I now have a new motor and door that operates more smoothly and quietly than it ever has and the job was finished in the stated hour. Nick demonstrated the operation, the remote controls and how to register for the 7 year warranty, apparently one of the longest manufacturers warranties available. Nick was thorough, professional, knowledgeable and friendly.

I cold-called Express Garage after seeing advert on Facebook. My garge motor needed replacement and I had some furniture in the way of operational equipment. Techie Don H, turned up on time in the late evening. I was pleasantly surprised by his good manners and wondered if he could help me. He looked at the old motor and said he could do it… Read more

immediately but I asked for three days later as I wanted a quote and bank details etc (legit enquiries). He came 3 days later as arranged and fixed motor replacement within 45 mins in the dark ! Because it had teething problems sliding up and down on the last stretch, he came back next day afternoon and managed to fix it - job well done and satisfactorily completed so efficiently. Bonus - he actually obligingly helped this fumbling old man move some furniture out of the way and then moved it back again. Where did all this superman strength come from I wondered. Anyway it was a pleasant experience compared to the previous replacement more than 10 yrs ago on a 35 year old sliding double sized garage door. That tech had 4 helpers and was so rude to his helpers compared to Don H who operated by himself. Thank you so much Don and GExpress. Expenses well spent !

Our garage won’t open that time and I was looking in the internet who to call and I was grateful the I saw the express garage door company. They are easy to contact and straight forward about the fee. Communication was great as well and they are on time to come in our house. I am up north as a long distance truck driver. My wife told me our garage door was not working. A quick look on google led me to Express Garage Doors who sent an awesome technician out within the hour, mind you this was 7pm or so. Our door was fixed professionally so I could drive again safely knowing my wife and our belongings were safe. Thankyou so much!

Was the worst experience in having garage springs adjusted for sectional doors. Not only did the technician not know what he was doing but also charged me an extra $100 for his incompetence. "The technician did not try to find out why the garage door was making noise. He just recommended a service without checking the problem. It took him only 10 minutes to oil the door, and he charged $150 for that. The noise is still there — nothing

Way over priced. Not even half an hour service call. Worked out at over 1000 an hour. Quoted 150 for a broken bracket that cost me 10 $ else where and 5 minutes to install.
