I've been buying Doc Martens for decades, they're definitely the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. Traditionally, well made and long lasting. Three generations at work are wearing them, the earliest bought in the 80s! A buckle on my most… Read more
recently purchased (about 18 months ago - Made in Vietnam) DM sandals has just broken. The buckles are cheap, the synthetic sole is constantly 'shedding' and the leather upper is thin with a PU coating which makes the overall look cheap and unremarkable. Not a patch on the once sought after iconic product which was instantly recognisable and well made from quality leather and materials in a time when 'Made in England' was a hallmark. Sorry guys, economics over quality I'm sure is a balancing act but seldom wins out in the long run. Currently just one more in a sea of poor quality, unsustainable (ie short lasting) footwear though I remain hopeful that things will improve.
Follow-up · The leather is very thin and cardboardy, the finish is almost like a coated vinyl or fabric. The buckle is made from die cast aluminium (coated with a black finish), the soles are a cheap rubber compound. No hint of quality anywhere unfortunately except that they're exceedingly comfortable, I guess I ignored everything else. I bought the brand essentially. =/
This company has ZERO quality control. Their boots and shoes used to be good. Now they're comparable to any budget brand. This used to be a good company. That has changed. The quality of their boots has gone down hill so dar im hesitant to call them Doc Martens. Even worse, the prices are higher than ever. Do not buy this brand. They charge premium prices for a boot that will last no longer than Kmart boots. Do not buy Show details
To encapsulate what has happened: 19/06/2025: Purchase Dr. Martin Voss II sandals in Princes St. Edinburgh. 17/07/2025: Received Voss II Sandals from friend who purchased sandals on my behalf, and started to wear. 15/09/2025: Rolled Ankle and checked sandals. Martin’s Australia. No help and told to contact UK as this is where purchased.
19/11/2025: Visited Dr. Martin’s store in Lake Joondalup. W. Australia. Spoke to Area Manager who stated this was the worst defect he had seen and to contact Dr. Martin UK.
20/11/2025: Contacted Dr. Martins UK who believe in 4 Months that their Dr. Martin Voss II Sandals are wear and Tear!!!
Dr. Martin’s 1 years guarantee!!!!???
Previous Voss II sandals wore for 4 years!
This current pair became faulty in 2 months and due to continue to wear Dr. Martin’s UK have decided it is wear and tear. Shame on Dr. Martin’s for their sandals lasting 4 months in total and are no longer wearable?????? This is wear and tear??

Falling apart after less than five months – Bought these sandals because I loved how they looked, on sale so I thought why not spoil myself. Still very expensive even on sale being Dr Martens obviously, so wasn't expecting a pair of shoes that are falling apart to this rate after less than five months of wear. Contacted Dr Martens Facebook page who sent me through to the Australian contact,… Read more
who then apparently reviewed these photos and came to the conclusion that the damage is caused as "a result of using cleaning methods or products not specifically designed for shoe materials, which can accelerate wear and tear or cause damage." (Their direct qoute). I replied, truthfully, that I had not cleaned the shoes with anything at all.. they'd hardly so much as been worn yet. They stood by their decision and refused to offer any form of replacement, compensation or even so much as an apology. I've had $10 shoes last longer than this. I'm disgusted at both the lack of quality, especially for the price, and at the customer service. Will certainly not purchase again nor recommend.
Just the absolute worst – The worst quality shoes with even worse customer service. The shoes haven't been of any good quality for quite some time now & it seems the quality is just getting worse & worse. I've had a few pairs in the past 10 years. The first pair 10 years ago was the best pair but since then every shoe has been significantly worse. The first pair I had I… Read more
worn for 4 years, the most recent pair I bought I won't wear them because the quality is so bad & uncomfortable that I can't. The two pairs before that both the heels wore out within a couple of months and I had to go to cobbler to fix them both. The most recent pair I bought off their website is the worst quality one yet, I emailed them about it, told them the situation, sent photos, they gave me a return label so I sent them back but now this is where it gets good, they won't accept my return or refund me because I didnt send them in the official cardboard box they came in, even though I stated I threw the box away in the original email I sent, they proceeded to send me a return label & only after I posted it decided to tell me they won't refund me. The shoes themselves have never been worn, ever, the only problem is I didnt have the branded cardboard box but hey apparently they will send them back to me, so I can toss them & my money in the bin, so that great. I won't ever buy another pair again, I think I've given enough shoes a chance to come to a pretty good conclusion they are garbage. They are purely for aesthetics these days, they used to be good but not anymore. For anyone who wants good quality shoes which are still made in the UK & look just like docs buy them from Solovair, I'm pretty sure they were the manufacturers or dr martens when they were good.

Poor quality leather & no warranty. Don’t buy Dr Martins – 1461 smooth. Bought from Brisbane DFO. 6 months from purchase the leather upper cracked right through forming a hole and leather flaked despite being regularly dressed with recommended. Some months later returned to shop to be told no warranty on leather and sole! (only stitching!) Show details

Annie of DrMartens Onehunga store – I drove from Bay of Islands to Onehunga but got lost. Annie guided me around Onehunga, by phone, while manning a very busy store, through a myriad of car parks, through the mall until i found her and not once did she get flustered, frustrated or rude during this period and kept talking and guiding thru until I saw her bright smile at the door. … Read more · 1

love these shoes sooo much – although the break-in period is very long, it is worth it! I am on my feet all day at work and these shoes were uncomfortable for the first 3 weeks, then were extremely comfortable and supportive! !!!Make sure to ease yourself into them, do not wear them for long periods as soon as you buy them!!! DO NOT BUY THESE HORRIBLE BOOTS. I am a long-time customer of Dr. Martens boots, I have tried many styles and many different sizes of the same style and I can honestly say that every single pair has caused heel blisters and/or foot discomfort. choices out there without ruining your feet. It's like the whole company is a running joke, they won't even develop a comfortable boot or shoe after all these years! Do your feet a favour, NEVER BUY THESE BOOTS/SHOES!
Typical, decide the fraying laces on my boots are due for replacement, almost didn’t pay the $14 for genuine but decided might as well and grabbed a jar of balm as well, next day I get email and all on special. Show details
Dr martens leather is not soft – I bought a pair of 14 hole black 1914 boots for man. They look good but the leather is very stiff and not comfortable for walking. I own other lace military boots that are soft and easy walking.
The kind of leather used for the 1914 boot is inadequate, makes walking very uncomfortable

Terrible quality as i felt rubbing inside the right boot and found the lining already worn/lifting (feels like a hole or peeling in the leather /fur) near the right toe. Probably faulty from day one but only apparent after a couple of wears. So disappointed we wasted $ on these and bought an extra set of fur insoles too.

Will spam you with marketing emails – Annoying advertising spam emails after 1 purchase, they say you can unsubscribe but they keep coming after unsubscribing. I made one purchase and was instantly signed up when they got my email to send the receipt to - doesn't matter if you say you don't want marketing material. Look nice but poor build quality for the money – Overall a nice boot. Bought my first pair 1460 classics nappa. Internally where the tongue is sewn to the shoe upper has a flap hanging down that should have been trimmed. This leather excess gets rolled over when putting your foot in causing discomfort. promising to email me with info. Well, they haven’t. It’s like I’ve got to keep chasing them for answers.
They don’t respond with what’s going on, shipping shows it hasn’t even been picked up by the courier and when I asked about how to cancel my order if they can’t resolve my issue they closed the Live Chat on me rather than responding. They don’t even reply to emails. Considering I’d been mighty patient and polite while being given the runaround that’s not really helpful in resolving the problem.
They used to be good. I’ve been buying Docs for decades but now they just simply don’t care about customers. I’ve been loyal for 3 decades, not anymore. Time to go Solovair it seems.

Quality no longer compares with price – I've been wearing docs since I was a kid, and was always happy to - they were a bit pricey but they lasted YEARS and we're comfortable. Now? notorious for this, but I'm pretty much a veteran in these boots and know all the tricks, so break-in normally only takes a month with minimal injury. These? STILL not broken in, STILL cut open my feet, and I literally was nearly hospitalised due to sepsis because of them. So, over $300 and an uncomfortable shoe, that's left me with scarring, disfigured toe-nails and bruises/cuts me still. Even worse than this? Only four months in and the boots are FLAKING and SPLITTING. It used to take my boots years of pretty much daily wear to start this (one pair of mine is eight years old and only just started splitting/flaking). Absolutely disgusting quality for the price. DO NOT buy docs until they sort this, especially if you're a longtime wearer - you will be bitterly disappointed by products now. Personally, I'll be jumping over to other old-school boot brands now.

on the order was split over 2 lines, unit number on first, street address on 2nd, and the 2nd line was disregarded because it was 'non-essential information'...?! Firstly, why provide a 2nd line if it is going to be ignored, secondly, who is stupid enough to ignore the 2nd line when it's clearly the street address?!! And to add to this, Dr Martens CS were not able to organise redelivery, it took 2 days for them to advise this, the shoes have since been returned to the warehouse, but, my size is no longer available to order online. So I've missed out. I'm just flabbergasted that something so simple has been utterly messed up. To add to this, the CS team although clearly doing their best, are working with scripted responses so I have zero confidence that they actually care. For a business of this size and scale, I expected more - thanks for nothing Dr Martens AU.

that those are true to size, but it is not correct. Those shoes were at least 1 size too small. Another point is that those cost over 200 eur and the quality is Stradivarius or H&M level. Inside is not even the leather. You can feel the poor quality just by touching. My boyfriend was laughing out of this stuff. It is basically a scam. He couldn't believe that I payed so much for what it is. The worst is that I have to pay up to 40 eur for the return. To be more specific, they have not even provided a package to be able to return. As a result I used a trash bags to cover the box. It is such a disappointment. I have been shopping online for ages and I never had such a disappointment about the quality and support service at the same time. I would definitely advice you not to get into this scam company and look for other brands.
