Dulux Ceiling White NeverMiss

Very costly and bad experience – I painted half the ceilings of the house, which included the bedrooms, with this paint. They stank terrible but I didn't suspect the paint and thought it was the new wool carpet which had been installed within a day or so of the ceilings being painted with Dulux Never Miss pink ceiling paint. A rep from the carpet company said 'perhaps' it was the… Read more
carpet and agreed to replace it with inferior synthetic carpet but the foul stench stayed. I only figured the paint was the culprit when I put some on the plaster wall of my shed and found it smelled the same as the stench in my house. When I contacted Dulux they provided a can of spirit based Smoke, Odour and Stain Blocker and a different ceiling paint. The stain blocker is terrible to use and paint tray, roller and brushes practically impossible to clean. I ended up throwing them out and buying new ones. I only painted 2 rooms (master bedroom and WIR) with it as that seemed to exacerbate the smell. Thank goodness I didn't do the rest. After painting the ceiling again, the stench in the rooms not painted with the smoke, odour and stain blocker subsided over a period of much more than a year but it still presents in the 2 rooms that were painted with the smoke, odour and stain blocker under certain weather conditions which seems to be to do with humidity and heat and this is after 6 years! After Dulux' inability to fix the problem, they have decided that the stench is due to dead possums and rats in the ceiling. That is most definitely NOT the case. There has never been an issue with a smell in the rooms of the half of the house that were not painted! In the earlier years of this fiasco, many times we slept in the lounge room.

Using Never miss – We painted my sons place using never miss all 9 ceilings & there was no smell issues at all , it is a greatest product I have ever used , unless they have changed the formulae , went on brilliantly & never missed an area that’s the idea of it , I can understand some of the comments , we sanded the ceiling & wiped the ceiling down with a metho rag , the pink colour went as it dried in about 2 hours Show details
Beautiful paint - so quick to use – I have read the reviews, and quite honestly can't believe it. I painted my hallway ceiling and a small bedroom with this paint after cutting in with a brush it took me 20 minutes with a roller to do both rooms! and I got great coverage!!! Yes it has an odour for a couple of days - big deal it is paint - open a window and enjoy your free time, well… Read more · 1
worth the money and ease of seeing where you have been. Just make sure you have enough paint on your roller, I used an extendable roller - seriously the easiest ceiling I have ever painted. I am no strong man either, I am a 48 year old woman with somewhat laxed fitness levels.
Disappointed – I found this product was very easy to apply and loved the even consistency fantastic paint..but just painted my bedroom ceiling and I'm still waiting for it to dry white..it's now 6 hours later and it's still pink..but I do have a concrete ceiling. I will now buy another Dulux ceiling white to cover it up..as it's still pink. Show details · 1

Still pink after 24 hours – I have used this paint several times and had no problems. However this time , half the ceiling is fine but the other hale has patches of pink. Will not use this paint again as it took a while to paint it in the first place and will need to be repainted , hopefully to hide these patches .......a good idea that has gone wrong....Dulux need to look… Read more

Ozone shock treatment is the only fix – I painted my ceilings in June 2019 and can assure everyone on this site that nothing works to get rid of the putrid smell. And I sympathize with everyone about the smell... Only gets worse with time. Anyways I have addressed this problem by ozone shock treating the entire house... Twice as once wasn't enough. The shirk treatment involved hiring a… Read more
powerful commercial ozone generator and filling my unoccupied house with dangerous levels of ozone.. approximately 72 hours of running flat out. It did get rid of the paint smell but as ozone is an oxidiser it has damaged rubber seals around my windows which will now need replacing. However it's the much lesser of 2 evils. I recommend if you do this option, research ozone generators first are there are many considerations and precautions that must be strictly adhered to. And ozone can damage some things. This paint should be used in chemical warfare. Even a cat or dog crap after a few days will loose its smell. This product defies logic as it only gets worse. And despite what Dulux say, the only way something can get worse in smell is if it's multiplying... And the only thing that can do that is bacteria. And that's the only reason ozone helps because it kills living cells. I will best of luck to anybody who had to suffer this stench like I did... It ruled my life for months on end and made me despise the house I once loved.

Good paint – I have used this ceiling paint many times. It’s easy to apply. Yep as someone else pointed out, it’s paint so I will smell for a few days. I bought from Bunnings and I am disappointed they do seem to have it anymore. Show details · 1
Does the NeverMiss ceiling paint go completely white when dry? – We recently removed pendant lighting throughout the house and replaced with downlights. After plastering up the holes from the lighting, we used Dulux Ceiling White over the plastering but the result is lighter than the rest of the ceiling that now appears to have a slight pink hue through it. Is it possible that NeverMiss was used originally and does not revert back to the Ceiling White colour? Show details

Anybody out there know how to get rid of smell without burning house down?
Terrible smell – I repainted by bedroom using this paint in May last year and (after having someone else in this room until September) started noticing a horrible smell like cat urine. Rotten smell for weeks – Just like others have reported this paint has a foul smell once it has dried. Luckily I only painted one room.. with this product.
Within a few days a rotten gas like chemical odour started in the room. I had renovated the room, including new floors/plaster so I knew it wasn’t a dead animal or a gas leak. So I opened the room up all day and turned the ceiling fan on for a week but it made no difference. After 3 weeks the odour was unbearable and the room was unusable. I hooped online and googled all the paints I had used and found this site. Sure enough, same paint, same problems.. Never had this smell from a paint before, never had used this paint so it wasn’t hard to figure out..
I had new carpet arriving so I had to sort this out quick.. I followed the suggestion on here and used shellac precision stain and odour blocker, instantly the foul gas smell vanished. I then put on 2 coats of matt wash and wear paint, rather than another ceiling paint product, and the odour has not come back (5 days now).
There is no doubt there is something very wrong with this paint, whether it reacts a certain way or in certain circumstances who knows. What I do know is I wasted money buying it, I wasted my time using it and I wasted more money fixing it. All through the process dulux got my money and I got a lemon..

retching. The ceiling looked good after just one coat so I didn't do a second coat. I don't think I could have faced it, honestly. Anyway, a month later, there is still a lingering sickly-sweet smell in the bedroom. It seems worse on warm days. I have tried airing the room and burning some essential oils but I cannot get rid of it. I had used a similar product from another brand several years ago without any problems. I have mostly purchased Dulux products over the years and have been very happy with them. I would definitely stay away from this product in the future.

Worst paint EVER – First time using Dulux paint and all I'm painting is white walls. I have had to paint 3 times over and it's still not great. Don't use - It drys to white but turns back to pink in humidity – Dulux NeverMiss ceiling paint was easy to apply but we are not happy with it. pink again. This morning the paint was white and after using the shower it had turned dark pink again.
We had also painted the laundry and hallway cornices. After seeing the paint in the bathroom turning back to pink I tested a patch of the hallway cornices by filling a spray bottle with water and spraying along the cornice. The paint turned from white back to pink!!!
The laundry still smells of the paint.
We bought plain white water-based ceiling paint to paint over what we painted with the Dulux NeverMiss when it occurred to me that the paintbrush with the new paint would just be washing the Dulux paint off and the new paint would be tinged pink also!
We now have the task of washing off as much of the dye out of the Dulux painted cornices as possible and using several coats of primer before we can paint with the other paint. I am hoping in time that the paint smell from the laundry will go away.
It could've been worse: we could have merrily continued with painting the ceilings, thinking that in time all the paint would dry evenly and we would be able to gaze on our lovely white ceiilngs (but might they have turned pink on a humid day?...)
We have always used Dulux paint, but first time with NeverMiss. We won't continue this paint job with Dulux paint.

The rooms unfortunately still smells and I'm worried it might never clear fully. I painted a hallway, a toilet and the laundry with this stuff. On a hot day they all stink and it has been two months. Today went back to Bunnings. The half used 10 litres was still there. The guys opened it up out of curiosity. The smell was very strong, acrid and eye watering. So thanks Dulux. not find anything similar. My wife and I both rang Dulux at the time, and they tried to dismiss it as a normal paint smell despite telling them that I had painted a hundred or so rooms over 40 years and never had the same stench. Dulux provided some gratuitous advice about leaving windows open etc (as though we hadn't thought of that). We could not use the room.
After about 10 weeks, the smell had lessened but we still could not use the room. My wife said I had to repaint the whole room again and so off to Bunnings I went to buy new wall, ceiling and semi-gloss paint as we could not identify which paint was stinking so much. When discussing the issue with the Bunnings guy, he then told me that there had been a product recall about the end of Sep-2017 and they removed all Deluxe paint from their shelves. He said to ring Dulux which I did (20-Nov-2017).
Initially, I did not tell the lady that answered the phone that I knew about the recall and just went on to explain about the awful stench from the painting (as I had done initially). After some time of her appearing to be evasive, I then asked her to look up the Dulux internal database for "recall of ceiling paint in the last two months". Her tone then changed and she then started to ask me about batch numbers on the can (I had the can in front of me) and said she would have to go and check.
She quickly came back and said that my batch was affected (but not toxic) and that she would arrange for a can of 'shellack' and a new can of ceiling paint that I could pick up from Bunnings (no charge) that day (which I did). I applied the shellack over the ceiling and then two coats of top coat and one day later, it appears to be a normal paint smell but obviously early days.
Whilst the lady at Dulux was very polite and very helpful once I was specific about the ceiling paint recall, I had a feeling she was under instructions to be evasive and avoid mentioning the paint recall (evidently some issue re anti-fungal chemicals according to another post on this site). I am very disappointed at Dulux that there was no attempt to put information on their web-site about this issue.
I consider myself lucky that I only had one bedroom and that the paint guy at Bunnings advised me about the issue as I would have ended up re-painting the whole room and maybe would have still had the problem like some others have.
I imagine there would be hundreds of unsuspecting Dulux customers that had indeed painted all their ceilings in the whole house and they would have had to move out. I notice that in all the comments from Dulux
on this web-site, there is no admission that they had a major issue with their ceiling paint which may have been helpful to their customers that were wasting time airing the rooms or washing down the walls with vinegar etc. I also think that the resellers (e.g. Bunnings) should have put a notice up in their stores. I believe that would be the right thing to do for their customers.
Of course I now have three litres of a rancid ceiling paint that Dulux want me dispose of it whereas I believe I should at least be able to return it to a Dulux paint centre as the nearest "paintback.com.au" is about a three hour return trip (Wetherill Park).
To be fair to Dulux, apart from this really bad experience, I have had a good run with their products and almost exclusively have used them in the past.
