Not sure why Dulux still make this product. It’s impossible to get an even finish. Followed all instructions used the correct rollers everything but the finish is uneven, bubbly and crap no matter what I do! Money wasted! Avoid at all costs! Show details

I had used the Dulux renovation products for the cupboards and was happy with the results. The products used for the benchtops was extremely disappointing. I left a day between each coat, and 2 weeks after finishing before putting anything on the benches( I was away). Even with all care taken stains developed very quickly. Coffee was the worst and… Read more

it appeared to have penetrated the coating. I have used any chemicals on it. I contacted Dulux but they suggested I hadn't applied the product correctly. I followed the instructions, but believe the issue is failure of the top coat. It's a very expensive product and requires a lot of work and time to complete. I would strongly advise against using this product. I only wanted to change the colour - the benchtops were in perfect condition prior to use of this product - now I will have to either repaint or replace. Very disappointed

Kel-arty elec and painting – I recently did my first kitchen laundry bathroom cabinets and bench tops in the renovation range primer easy to apply. weather in consideration.. I was very nervous about clear coat as I’ve seen a lot of bad reviews. But I did it anyway. I mixed slowly with a paddle pop stick followed directions to the T. Rolled very lightly no pressure and kept a wet edge do not stop for anything or get distracted. Focus and keep the same consistency I found by doing 3 lines up down then back roll the same way very lightly. then move on , repeat … never go back or it will leave lines . It looks abit milky but it self levels and the milky colour goes away:) I think I held my breath as well lol . Worked a treat very happy . Told my client not to touch for 7 days ..

application method and cure times. Naturally after a couple of years of heavy wear and tear there are some chips in the coat but all in all very happy and would use again. If you apply it well, have realistic expectations and don't abuse it it's great a lot cheaper than a new benchtop.

Dulux Renovation – My Professional Painter used this product when it first hit the market. It was used on our bench tops using Gloss White. Two years later they are covered with scratches. This is a high usage area. Complained to Dulux and just told to go back to our painter. He was’nt the problem their product was…. They stated it is the “final sacrificial coating to help with wear and tear”. This product does not meet their own standards. Peter Bennett Show details

NOT waterpoof, NOT hardwearing, NOT easy to apply, NOT fit for purpose – We've spent hundreds of dollars on 6 tins of this, sugar soaps, NAP rollers...and the pre-requisite sanding / filler to make good the seams / joins.. we also took well over a week to follow exact technique, ensure adequate drying time and applying multiple layers.... Wife's a stickler for the instructions, so have been followed exactly. We painted… Read more

an old melamine covered worktop in the kitchen...

Keeping it simple here Primer - This goes on fairly well, no complaints here, except, it should be thicker to help with evening out blemishes Gloss paint. This is really too thin, it dries too quickly which gives zero time to be able to 're-roll' and correct any blemishes caused by imperfect rolling technique. safest way is to flood pour, roll on to spread out the paint then quickly 'finish roll'....if the paint gets too thin (as it does around the edges of the pour), it gets tacky and it's game over for your finish. Clearcoat...Waste of time, it dries even quicker than the paint and only serves to really highlight that you didn't use a robot arm to apply consistent even pressure and spacing for your rolling. Yes, it's that sensitive to technique. All in, we've used 2-3 coats for the primer, 2 coats for the Gloss paint 2-3 coats for the clearcoat finish Each layer gets tacky enough quickly enough to ensure you can't re-roll imperfections. But stays tacky enough for long enough to ensure any local bugs, or dust gets latched forever into the surface.

Final Finish. Looks great from a distance when not wearing glasses. In-use, the surface isn't waterproof. be sure to quickly wipe off any standing water or you get blemishes that last a day or two before drying. Don't go anywhere near the surface with kitchen utensils, pots or pans. it dents and marks quite efficiently.

Or, in other words, this product is completely unsuitable for purpose. if you want a stop-gap solution to look pretty before undertaking a major kitchen renovation, Use something else...this is horrendous value for money

A year on and still happy with the results – I used this paint on my bathroom tiles over a year ago and still am extremely happy with the results. Looks amazing, easy to clean, no scratches. I’m now looking to do my kitchen tiles backsplash - can’t believe the negative feedback - you have to be patient with this and follow the steps precisely. specs and black fleece in the final clear coat so was very unsure whether to proceed. Decided we would. Rang a dulux company in Bundaberg. They had not received any negative feedback. Rang Dulux advise/ help line / customer service. They said they were of aware of negative feedback relating to this issue. Said they test their product regularly during the manufacturing process. No problems there??? Inferred operated error. Decided to buy the product ie the final clear coat at Bunnings. Spoke to paint service person Bunnings cannon Hill Brisbane. They had not received any negative feedback. Should’ve had her open tin there and then. Didn’t. Went to use it. Opened the tin and because I was aware of negative feedback regarding this issue I paid particular attention to the clarity of the product for possible contamination. You guessed it black specs and black fleece type contaminant. Returned product to Bunnings. Happy to exchange it or refund. Opened another tin. Not convinced. Opened another tin which seemed okay. Brought it to job site. Started stirring. Some black specs and fleece type contamination. Contamination obvious on application over Lexicon quarter. Didn’t have time to take another tin back. Decided to strain through muslin cloth. This worked. Product went on well from this point. Time will tell if the Dulux hype about this product live up to their promises.

Very poor – Does not stand the test of time. We are VERY experienced painters. Followed instructions for this product to the letter. We KNOW that everything was done correctly. (so a full day). 3. Primer on second side of cabinet doors. (Also 8 hours drying time, again a full day). Ditto laminex benchtop. 4. First coat of colour (allow 8 hours... you get the drift). 5. Second coat of colour (yep, as before). 6. Final clearcoat on cabinet door fronts and benchtop. Tell client not to use benchtop for a week, to allow everything to harden. So two weeks of not being able to use your kitchen. After 18 months client contacted us saying the product on the benchtop was peeling off and chipping. We also noticed, after going back to look, that the colour had darkened markedly. We retouched the peeling and chipping parts and rang Dulux to let them know about the product problem. They actually told me that this product is not intended to be permanent!!! They said it is just an interim solution until you decide to replace your benchtop. (Yes, I couldn't believe it either.) It certainly doesn't say that on the product packaging. Will never use this again!

Very frustrated it didn't live up to expectations – As a reasonably experienced home renovator looking to do up some tired laminex benchtops in an ensuite bathroom, I read the instructions very carefully and believe that I could not have been more scrupulous in following them to the letter. between them, I started carefully wiping down the surface for the final clear coat and bits of the paint just came away from the laminex underneath. Not sure what I will do next, but after paying around $300 for the paint and spending many hours in preparation for what should have been a straightforward job I'm very frustrated and angry.

Nightmare to work with, if you want a good job – Not happy with this product. I used this thinking it was the best option, but now not happy with the outcome. unfortunately the paint was soft and was easy to cut through.. (Maybe I should have waited a month?) After a week of 30deg plus days, should have been ok. I suspect it's the nature of this water based paint. Difficult to path up and fix problem. Ended up buying more paint and playing with different techniques... It doesn't float off well so you must apply very fast and the other most annoying thing is the clear coat isn't clear, it's a clear milky colour, which means the final coat becomes lighter and not a slightly darker richer colour which I would expect. In the end it looked ok after a ridicules amount of work but If you want a good finish buy something else

Streaky finish on Laminate benchtop – Followed all steps and used all recommended products as per Dulux and Bunnings for painting my Laminate benchtop. Even went an extra step and removed my sink. microfiber 4mm nap 100mm roller and once each section was coated used a 'lay off' technique. Despite this every roll mark was evident.

Spoke to Bunnings, Dulux online and a Dulux local shop. Given no solutions, informed it was likely my application.

Lightly sanded the clear/top coat to try different techniques using a 4mm nap 160mm roller instead. Best finish I was able to achieve was using the larger roller (160mm) but working VERY quickly with long strokes running the entire length of the bench and not using the 'lay off' technique.

After various attempts I was unable to achieve a consistent finish and opted to start again and try another product. Thanks to Bunnings at Burleigh who provided a full refund of the paint.

Overall difficult product to get a smooth finish on a benchtop and left me without a kitchen for weeks! Disappointed that this product is marketed as DIY - would have to be a professional painter to achieve a finish that you could be satisfied with. Not worth the time, money or effort.

Skeptical like many others, but so far so good – I bought the product for my kitchen benchtops and splashback before reading all the online reviews, so I feared the worst. So no scratches or chips so far but I accept that a painted… Read more ·  1

finish will likely never be quite as tough as glazed tiles or body coloured laminate.

I was also very careful in preparation and application. I sugar soaped twice (but no sanding), used two coats of primer (mainly because I had so much in that one litre tin!), 4-5 coats of white splashback colour over beige tiles (it needed it to not show through the colour underneath), 2 coats of benchtop blue colour and 3 coats of satin clear over everything, all coats at least 8 hours drying time. I did find part of the benchtop just wouldn't dry with an even satin finish despite the rest being okay and the colour coat being okay. I used new roller covers and eventually put down 10 coats of satin clear before it would even out! Very strange.

My greatest issue was that the one litre tins are far too much for a typical kitchen's needs and because a hardener is added giving it a 3-10 day shelf life afterwards, it cant be stored for other purposes (or touch ups I assume). So I ended up painting two doors and a number of window frames with the remainder just to use it up (it worked well). Half litre tins please!

The bench finish also seems to have the strange characteristic of showing up water marks from spills straight away which can not be wiped off even if gotten to quickly, but which then disappear overnight.

Absolutely do not use these products – This product came highly recommended by Bunnings staff. My fiancé and I are mechanics so are pretty handy with this stuff, however after the weeks we’ve had without a bathroom trying to get this stuff to do what it’s supposed too, all I can say is DO NOT waste your time, money and sanity on this rubbish. two coats of primer, and 6 coats of white satin plus clear coat, with 24hrs drying time between each and theee days between final white coat and the clear, it’s only just covered the pale blue in the tile underneath. It took 6 coats to only just cover it and it still shows through in bright light. It chips and scratches with the slightest bump and I’m dreading cleaning it. The application is crap, the finish is crap, streaky and patchy and the finished product is beyond disappointing.

It took weeks of work and being without a bathroom for nothing not to mention the cost of the paint plus rollers, brushes, sandpaper, drop sheets etc. It makes me feel physically sick to think that very soon I’m going to have to take it all off or re-tile because it’s already chipping and scratching. Absolute rubbish. Followed the prep instructions to the letter.

good, i couldn’t rate it any lower for longevity. After spending a whole weekend painting these benchtops and waiting a week to actually use them in my kitchen, i am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. I wouldn’t waste my money on the dulux benchtop renovate paint range.

What’s worse is we have to now plan on how we are going to remove and fix this.

Facts: - we have laminate benchtops - we sugar soaped the benchtops and rinsed them with hot water and let it dry - we applied one coat of the dulux renovate range primer - we applied two coats of the top coat colour - we applied one coat of the satin clear coat - we waited at least 8hours between all coats and layers (weather was 25 degrees) - we waited one week prior to using any of the benchtops.

This is a real shame because we had really good results from the dulux renovate cabinet paint.

when we started using the benchtop the real trouble started. Even with two applications of both the top coat and clear coat the marks and stains began almost with the first use and continued to get worse. Even placing plates on it left stratches and marks. Anything with minor minor heat left a stain.

Overall, really dissatisfied and disappointed. Definitely would not and will not recommend, will actually actively not recommend it to anyone. Would have been much better off putting the few hundred dollars towards getting engineed stone benchtops.
