Dunlop AT5 Exceeds expectations in all aspects and safety – Another great tyre from Dunlop on my Mitsubishi Challenger. I travelled around Australia 3 times and did over100,000 km plus and still roadworthy but My AT3 tyres were due to be replaced. AT3 but then the problems began as my Tyres were AT3 265/70 R15 112 and no longer around but after much research and seeing my local Goodyear Store found the… Read more
AT5 which had the same specifications as my AT3. Jumped on the AT5 and the tread was the only difference. Grandtrek AT5 offers a 50% improvement in mileage, 25% more effective braking performance, and a quieter ride (an eight percent noise reduction against its AT3 predecessor. Ok they cost a lot more than other brands but Dunlop do a lot of research on their product and are ahead other brands that I reviewed. I suggest you do reviews before buying any tyre. The cheapies had in some cases shocking reviews. Premium brands invest time and effort into creating the latest tyres. They hire the best chemists, technicians, engineers, and designers to produce tyres that are then tested to destruction by drivers in every type of condition. I highly recommend these tyres even though they are not the cheapest. You get what you pay for. If looking at tyres as I said read the reviews before purchase. This is one site I used but also reviewed them on other sites. https://www.tyrereview.com.au/dunlop-grandtrek-at5-reviews
a great choice – 1.the tyres have performed very well to the different weather conditions, maintaining good grip on wet and dry hot roads. traction on dirt roads was excellent. 2, the performance of the vehicle was to vehicle manufacture's spec. 3. the tyres are durable and i envisage good wear life on the tread
it's a very reliable brand of tyre – I found these tyres were very smooth to drive with very strong in the wet weather and very tough when needing to stop fast. if you want good tyres then I would get these. Show details
Very noisy tyre – Have had no problem with tyre performance in wet or dry but the noise they create on bitumen is terrible. Not sure on tyre life as have had them on LC 100 for only 40000 but want them to wear out quickly so I can get a quieter tyre Show details
Overall not happy – Soft wall. when reducing pressure in sand, the wall started peeling. Very poor wear with tread pattern getting high spots. Extremely noisy on bitumen. Poor performance overall. Only positive is the mileage, would have changed them earlier but limited by finances Show details
Toyota Rav4 with AT3's – I live on hard sharp gravel roads, with lots of opportunity for tyres and sidewalls to be pierced. I live 60km from any town and mostly drive alone on isolated roads, so tyre choice is important for my safety. The AT3's are the only tires that have lasted well and not failed me. They are a bit noisy on bitumen, but I'm OK with that. I feel safe with them on my wheels. Show details
Long run – The last two sets of tyres on my 80 series have been these. They survived 95,000 km and 110,000 km each.I do mainly highway work. and short distances on gravel. I have had no problems with traction, wet or dry. They are obviously very hard wearing and I am putting on a new set, the same, next week. Show details · 1
Bad std tyres which came with my FJ Cruiser – These lasted about 100K. This was the only thing I was impressed with. Otherwise they are pretty bad when you don't need to travel in a straight line. Going around roundabouts in the wet was practically an out of body experience as I struggled to stop them from aquaplaning. Scary! There is absolutely no way I would buy these tires myself and… Read more
Toyota should not have made them standard on any model. Off road they were better than expected given the tread pattern but this is not saying much.
Big capacity – Most of my past tyres have always worn quickly on a inner edge so a better quality rubber was sought for. After 3 years with this brand my frustrating search ended. Also after sales services of pumping & checking tyres was great as it doesn't exist at service stations anymore..Better rubber is best. Handcock grandtreck at3 rubbish – Purchased 5 from jax tyres Wollongong in Dec 16 2 weeks wall failure on 1 tyre 8 weeks later reply from hancock won't give warranty 2 weeks later another wall failure. Soft walls after being told by jax a top performer for an all terrain tyre. RUBBISH and LOST MY BUSINESS. Show details
so far, so good – - good traction on wet road(27psi). - dry roads, no problem(35psi). - loose sand and a half rim of mud is okey(20psi). got stuck on mud but even my firend's maxxis trepador got stuck too. hehehe - river crossing is a challenge but i still made it(20psi). - sidewall just cleans itself??????? - I'm not sure about the thread life though 'cuz… Read more
this is my 1st set dunlop AT3's(finger's crossed)
- lesser road noise than michelin LTX A/T.
- always adjust your tire pressure in different terrain condition.
What do the new Hilux 17 in take – I have a new Hilux and the Grandtrek 2 are terrible tyres. In the wet they have the traction contraol going off all the time what ever the speed In the dry they are not bad bot noisy. Sounds like the AT3 are no better
This is very correct however do not think Grandtrek 3 is better as the number is higher. Coopers… Read more
Slippery in the wet – I bought a pair of AT3 for the front of my X-Trail. Driving the Kuranda and Gillies ranges immediately became a scary exercise. Wet/Damp road traction is pathetic, so the vehicle developed major under-steer characteristics on wet or damp roads, which are common on those 2 ranges. Round-abouts became an exciting challenge, keeping it on trajectory… Read more
in the wet, almost impossible. They developed a weird vibration within about a week of fitting (not balance related), which eased and eventually disappeared once about half worn, but then they became much more noisy.
I scrapped them on April 30, 2014 and so happy and relieved they are gone. Never again will I buy Dunlop AT3. Never! Piece of garbage! Dunlop should be ashamed of themselves for not only releasing the tyre in the first place, but for keeping it on the market. In my opinion, it is a dangerous tyre and should be withdrawn from sale.
Slippery When Wet signs take on a whole new meaning. Deadly when wet would be a better description

Know better, choose better.
Junk – Drive on wet road, feel like skating. Drive on dry road, feel like crushing. no traction, noise, this piece of junk should be recalled by DUNLOP. people may get serious injury when they just pass a roundabout in rain or try to stop car near traffic... consider your own safety, please don't buy this junk. looks good terrible on both dry and wet condition road, terrible on high way, noise, no traction on any kind of road
Noisy!! – Like many others, I thought I had done a bearing somewhere. At about 20,000km the noise at about 80-90 kph is awful. grip offroad is rubbish too. I went to my local tyre store and they tried to sell me another set.....my reply to them was they would have to pay me! Worst tire I have ever owned.
Rubbish – As per another review. Extreme noise cause by these tyres on two different 4wd's (Mazda bravo and Toyota prado) made me take the vehicles to mechanic thinking that there was a severe mechanical issue with my car. Each time I was told that it was he tyres despite realignment and safety check. Had one blow out on my prado and the two that are… Read more
left after 15000 have separating tread.
Thanks for wasting my money
Noisy, tread separates easily, waste of money
Noise – Noiseist tyres i have ever owned. Fitted to a RAV4 2004 3 door. Will not get these again. Have noticed other people with the same complaint. Took the car to a mechanic thinking it had done a wheel bearing, Was told that this is a common problem with these tyres. Slippery on gravel.
Noise when they start to wear – poor replacement for AT2, very noise when not even half worn, edges high and lows on edge of tread, sounds like you have a diff or wheel bearing gone, noise from around 80klm, Beaurepairs claim not warranty, the tyres have not been rebalanced, wheel alignment and rotated every 10,000 klm,Beaurepairs cop out, Beaurepairs answer sell you another set… Read more
at a good price, same price that I paid before, can't wait until they are worn out, wont be putting Dunlop's on again. look good noisy when near 1/2 worn
Similiar story, but I didn't go back to Beaurrepairs. I've done 44000kms on mine and been really… Read more (+3 replies)
Poor replacement for AT2 – I've been running my Surf on AT2's until I couldn't get a replacement for a bad puncture and was sold a pair of AT3's. I would only recoment these to 4WD's that will never see off sealed road work. They are rated as a 80/20 tyre but are scary on gravel as they slide everywhere. They dig in sand and will not float. Mud - forget it. On the road… Read more
however they are quiet and comfortable.
Sorry Dunlop but the AT3 is not and advancement on the AT2. Quiet and stable on tar sealed roads very poor on gravel roads, deep gravel
Very Poor wear on the Dunlop AT3 made in Thailand – It is my short experience with the Thai made Dunlop AT3 Grandtrek that they wear terribly. I just did the round Oz trip with a caravan and the two new purchased Dunlop Grandtrek's (fitted to the front) only made it just under 19000k's and in actual fact they were virtually bald (and illegal) at least a 1000k before. The Japanese made Grandtreks… Read more
(fitted to the back and loaded more than the front because of the caravan) had at least 50,000 on them before the trip and still had legal tread on them when I changed them (at about 70K) so as to match the replacement for the junked Thai Grand Treks on the front.
Bottom line, the Thai Grand Treks are rubbish with regard to wear, remembering that they are expensive. Seemed to hold the road OK, Terrible wear.
Great tyres – Great tyres, handle great on wet roads, quiet at high speeds. As for offroad traction cant really comment as they were used exclusively onroad. Would these tyres again. Got a bargain at $210 a tyre for 30x9.5R15 cant go wrong. Look meaty, Quiet at speed, Great steering, Great wet road handling nothing really
Good – Fitted to 100 series Landcruiser. Good value for money for conditions I encounter. Particularly good on wet roads. Coarse chips roads in NZ eat tyres. These lasting about as well as others. Quiet, good roadholding, no aquaplaning, OK in snow and sand. Good steering response and braking. Treadlife could be better but about average. Coarse chips roads in NZ eat tyres.
