Glad it's discontinued.
This is the worst vacuum cleaner I have ever used. So glad it's discontinued. Lime all Dysons it gets caught up on everything as it has big back wheels, no castors. It is badly designed and unbalanced so flips over a lot. Very hard to empty without dirt going everywhere. Terrible product.
Purchased in September 2014.
Not good when they discontinue
The product itself is good however the after service is terrible, when they Discontinue a model they discontinue all the parts and service on that product. You play all that money for a good machine and the plastic parts break and are not replaceable... We live in a disposable world ! throw it out and we will give you 25% of a new one..... they say. Well that is not acceptable. They should be able to provide small plastic parts to connect to their hoses. Throw out a perfectly good working machine for a part that would cost less than $1 to make. POOR SHOW on Dyson products. I acquired this machine as a gift this year so dont know when it was originally purchased, so put this years date in.
OK - able to rebuild with parts via ebay.
Now a work vacuum - using HEPA filter for vacuuming sawdust or plasterboard dust. Replaced motor once with parts from ebay. No good on pet hair on rugs. Easy to clean - hose out with pressure and dry in the sun. Told it won't work on high quality carpet I plan to buy after a new-build.
Lovvvvvvvvvve DYSON VACUUMS DCO5 – How did I ever get along without it?
MR Dyson, I just pray you have been sufficiently compensated to the tune of millions and millions for showing those who have been in the business for many decades before you HOW ITS DONE, (take a leaf Hoover Electrulux!), having churned out nothing but rubbish FOR SO LONG, forcing them to step up their game on your ingenuity. This goes also for the new kids in town showing ‘em how TO REALLY STEP UP..
In this day where the ptb encourage substandard everything you are standing up and saying buy once and buy right and never look back. I pray you ...
I've had my DysonDC05 for around 14 years & it's been fantastic. Just a few minor repairs - cord not retracting & motor repair about 9 years ago.
The main reason I love Dyson is the quality & bagless. A few years ago I bought the Dyson V6 Handstick Vacuum - cost around ($400-$500).
So disappointed with the Handstick - no suction & keeps cutting out even when fully charged. even though my DC05 is still working I've noticed weak suction. DC05 is now discontinued so can't get parts or filters.
After looking at all the negative / bad reviews about the latest Dyson models I decided to look at the a different range & even though it needs bags the reviews were 10/10 & very good quality.
Extremely happy with my Dyson
I have had my Dyson for 18 years. Had it serviced once only because the cord stopped retracting. Have not had any other issues. If & when this one dies I will be buying another Dyson. I would not even consider buying a different brand.
POOR ELECTRICAL SWITCH AND POWER BUTTON
Have owned this cleaner since 2005 and have numerous things break or stop working. The power cord won't retract. The yellow plastic push down for the switch broke, the handle would leak suction and you loose suction from the head and now the actual power switch has given up and dyson will not sell the switch unless you are a qualified electrician. The cleaner does not need to be completely disassembled to replace the switch!!!!
This is plug in plug out part!!!
Shame on you Dyson!!!!!
Will not sell parts that are VERY easily replaced.
Best vacuum I've ever had
I bought one of these 2nd hand 5 yrs ago and it still has powerful suction and runs great. I always forget how good it is until I use someone else's vacuum. Its been through a lot too, my husband decided to suck up prickles when we moved to a new house with more prickles than lawn and he filled a 50 litre bin twice with more dirt than anything and that was 2 yrs ago. I recently discovered that it's 14 yrs old. If that isn't value for money I don't know what is considering how many cheaper vacuums my mum and sister have gone through in the last few years I can't recommend dyson enough to them
Super reliable, you get your money's worth
I have nothing bad to say about this product
Excellent customer service
I too have just had incredible customer service from Dyson. We have a DC05 which has been working well but a clip on the vacuum broke so it did not close properly. It is 5 years old and out of warranty but a call to the very friendly customer care centre meant a new part was supplied at a very reasonable price by the next morning!!
Hihgly recommend this cleaner and company.
Could not recommend that company more
Our Dyson vacuum cleaner died the other week. Was the motor. Even though we bought 9 years ago, for $1,000. We rang them on the of chance they could fix it.
Sure enough, $280 later, with new motor, new cord, new filter, new head, door-to-door pickup and delivery, with a new turbo head and a bunch of other things thrown it.
It is now working far better than when we originally bought it. The new motor they put in is incredibly powerful.
Oh – and it now has a 2-year full replacement warranty covering everything.
Could not recommend that company more.
Would not buy another Dyson. Although mine is now nearly 9 years old I am now on my third new motor, third grey cable, and various cleaning heads plus telescopic wand replaced by dyson free of charge. The turbobrush is fantastic because I have persian cats and it really does a great job picking up pet hair, but is also does get clogged and then you have to take the head apart to clean out pet hair. Their sevice is very good but I would not expect to have had all these things go wrong. Had a Miele vacuum for 12 years and never had any problems.
Modern in design, bagless, and very easy to maneover.
Motor burn out. Grey cable to thin and gets twisted and consequently does not rewind.
for the amount of money I paid for it, i would expect the construction to be first class. the retractable cord is so cheap and nasty. it is worse than the cheap vacuum cleaners you can buy at kmart. can never switch the brushbar with my foot when cleaning different floor surfaces. always have to stop and pick it up to switch it by hand. it doesn't pick up all the deep dirt and hair in the carpet despite the strong suction. it also is incredibly noisy. sounds like an aeroplane flying around in my living room. i like the fact you can watch the di...rt accumulating in the barrel and you don't have to buy bags. I have had mine for 6 years and haven't had any mechanical problems to date but I prefer the miele I had before. not worth it for the price. bagless, easy to empty, light, no loss of suction cheap retractable cord, noisy, brushbar is tricky to switch over for hard or delicate floors using foot.
I've owned this cleaner for around 12 years and have had no problems with it until a month ago when the on/off switch broke (through I suspect, bad handling). The service was quick and cheap.
The cleaner works as well as the day I bought it. It is easy to use and clean, and having borrowed a friends Miele cleaner whilst it was being repaired, I would buy another without hesitation.
Light and easy to use, easy to clean, strong suction,
does not sit on stairs very well
For the price, its good. It will do a better clean than most of the vaccuums on the market. dont like the way maketing claims it picks up and retains ALL micro particles and dirt deep down. It does get seep dirt.... but not ALL of it and not nearly as deep as what the sales rep implies.
There is better on the market...
It picks up dust and dirt and keeps MOST of it in the canister
It doesnt actually retain ALL the micro particles, nor does it clean as deeply as it should for the price and the marketing claims, its made of plastic, it has also been shown to push dirt through the carpet and blown into other areas of the house
I get hayfever and wanted a good efficient vacuum at any price. The Dyson DC05 does well at sucking up dust, but then fails pathetically.
You have to tip, the dust out of the canister into a bag to empty it, and often to scoop or scrape the much out. If you have allergies this defeats the whole point of the thing, because it puts the dust back into the air near your face.
It has a sexy design, but not a design that shows much consideration for how the product will actually be used. I feel rather ripped off.
Despite the big fuss ab...out not losing suction through the bag, it does have poor sealing on the various joints and loses suction there. I'm going back to a bagged vacuum, where the dust is kept contained once it's sucked up, and you can then just throw out the bag. It makes so much more sense. good suction, light weight a bag would be much less messy; fussy design; poor sealing
Save your money, you can buy several good vacuum's for the price of this.
Over priced pommy (made in Malaysia) junk
I owned ( or did) a DC05 but luckily o not the power head model. I must say this is the LAST Dyson that I shall ever own.
Yes it is over 5 years old but i have had the following problems
1. Handle broke after 2 years (bought a new one)
2. Telescopic wand jammed. (replaced by Dyson)
3. Floor head broke (have glued it up)
4. Spring in retractable cord fell to bits. ...
My motor burnt out early on and this was fixed under warranty with very little hassle. Parts are really easy to come by even years later. I bought my DC05 in 2003 and it is still going strong. I have had to replace the handle but all i had to do was call Dyson and they posted me a new for $40. Before the Dyson I had 2 other cheap vaccuum cleaners which died after less than a year.
Long lasting plastics, convenience of use, service from Dyson, great suction
The long arm makes storage difficult
I bought this after getting conned by advertising. Looks great but that about it! Great for the first month, until the novelty wore off. It does not swivel so basically moves in a straight line banging into everything. The hose turns back on itself and then folds-looses suction. The telescopic wand collapses all the time as I believe it was designed by a tall man and I am 163cm woman so my hands sit right where the collapse button is (my 13 year old son - same height - has this problem too) its cumbersome, hard to store, awkward to use on stair...s, you have to change heads to get into the corner- other vacuums you just pull off the wand and the nozzle on the hose can be used to 'get into that little bit'. It looks serious but I think it was designed by someone who vacuums as a novelty not cleaning up after 3 boys and a dog. I wish the dog would take it into the garden and chew it to pieces but she hates it too!Do yourself a favour and don't be sucked in cos that will be the only suction you will get if you buy it.
This is a nice vacuum cleaner and is very well put together. It does a nice job cleaning and its great not having to change bags or filters. Overall I had two problems in about six years, the switch needed replacing as did the cable winder. The switch cost $5 and the winder $62. The vacuum cleaner is very easy to fix. I did the jobs myself. The rest of the parts are very strong such as the wheels and the hose. Overall it was a good buy but for the $850 it should have been.
Nicely made, appealing design, quiet, easy to manouver and sucks up a lot of dirt, mostly strong and durable with exceptions
Is a bit fragile in parts, very expensive to buy
Had the Dyson for five long years and would have replaced it sooner if not for the initial expense. As a cleaner it is average at best and no better than a vacuum half its retail price. The annoying label stuck to the side reads "No Loss of Suction" when it should just say "Little or No Suction". The filters constantly block and lower the limited suction it already has. Supplied "Turbo Brush" had little effect on carpets and constantly needed untangling from sucked up threads. Cord re tractor broke in first year, half the "on board" tools brok...e later. In use it will not stand on stairs and frequently tips over on its side. There are no bags to buy but emptying the dust cylinder can blast clouds of dust back into the house. I now have a Miele which costs $400 and is brilliant! No bags to buy Expensive. Build quality is poor for the price. Unstable when pulled around. Filters frequently need cleaning.
Questions & Answers
Was looking to buy a Telescopic Wand for my DC05 Vacuum Cleaner. It is 16 years old and after checking on
line I am disappointed I won't be able to obtain one. Is there any hope of finding one anywhere else. I had the motor replaced a few years ago and would love to be able to still use it.
Dyson Team ..Dyson
We do apologise for the disappointment. Dyson have been supporting the DC05 since it's launch in 1999, however we are no longer able to provide parts and servicing.
That being said, we do have an offer for our Dyson DC05 Owners. To find out more, please just email email@example.com with your details and the serial number of your machine and we will be in touch.
Hi I have a dyson dc05 motorhead SN 079-AU-529675. Still works well but my daughter threw the motorhead and other head parts by mistake. What are my options to replace? I'm thinking of
1. Is there other dyson model motorhead that will fit mine?
2. I read the product was recalled. Can I still return or exchane mine with one that has same power?
Just a follow up question I found DC 08 MOTORHEADS in Gumtree. Will they fit? I'm in NSW and seller is in Perth but I'm asking a friend to pick up and ship.
Dyson Team ..Dyson
We do apologise for any disappointment, however spare parts for the DC05 Motorhead are no longer available. While DC08 parts won't fit the DC05, we do have an offer for DC05 Motorhead owners.
We would kindly ask you to forward your details to firstname.lastname@example.org and our Dyson Experts will be in touch and happy to help.
Do you have Spare parts
