Easy to use! Easy to empty out waste! – Great suction. Easy to empty. Would recommend getting a Dyson Forsure! Carpets come up great. I use it on carpet and hard floors. The turbine head makes it easy to vac. For smaller places like in between fridge window ledges the other attachments come in handy to. Show details
Wheels wore out after 3 years! – The cheap little front wheels wore down so that the $130 turbine head scratched my timber floors- after only 3 easy years of home usage. (Probably cost less than 10 cents to make...) Average suction. Fiddly plastic bits and lack of manoeuvrability. Expensive tools. I bought a Hoover stick vac and it's been brillian. I will definitely not be buying another Dyson! Show details
Short life – The suction is pretty good but doesn't pick up all pet fur from small dog. I found the dimension of the pipe is too large to get in small spaces i.e behind an aquarium on the tiles. The concertina pipe twists and cuts off the suction until you twist it back. My Dyson actually blew the motor yesterday after 5 years, so not happy with the short life… Read more
span. I have my own cleaning business, but don't use Dyson (for home only) and I finished my cleaning yesterday with a back pack cleaner that performed better than Dyson! I think my next vacuum will be the Miele pet vacuum. I have had a Miele before and it lasted for years.
Junk – I have had a Dyson for a few years, paid $800 for it so could not afford another brand till now. This machine has done more damage to the walls of our home in that time than you can believe, it has to many spikey bits to carry all the gadgets, the big flange on the bottom of the wand makes it impossible to get in tight spaces, this machine has a… Read more
mind of its own, never goes where it should when you pull on the hose, and tips over all the time. We are pensioners and saved along time to buy what we thought was the best what we got was junk.
Rubbish machine – I will never by another Dyson, they are gutless without a power head. Trying to get a fly out of a window ledge easier to use chop sticks just no power/cuts. The power head on tiled floor just loves to spread any sand rather than pick much up. It is good on some carpets than stops on a carpet mat. The really great thing is you can pull it around easy thats the only good thing.

DC23 turbine head – The vacuum itself is a good machine however I have also had problems with the turbine head. With the attachments that came with the machine, I had a large turbine head & a smaller turbine head, both of which have seized & I havent been able to use them for ages. Given the cost of the attachments I didnt buy another one either however I have… Read more
recently went to the Good Guys & HArvey Norman who are now only selling attachments to the newer models & these attachments dont fit the older models. I guess like Apple in an effort for you to fork out for a new machine :(
I also have a friend with the exact same model Dyson & she had the same issue. Appears to be a problem with the turbine head. Funny to read a reply to a previous comment from Dyson claiming this is unheard of.
Good machine, except for turbine head! – My complaint is about the turbine head which I have had to replaced once already. As my second head has recently packed up after lasting just over 2 years. I came to the conclusion that they must have an inbuilt fault in them. Having pulled the first one apart to see how they work, I opened the second one after it stopped working and found the… Read more
same fault - the fan had broken loose from the shaft hence not turning the brush any more.
It is really disappointing that for a quality machine like Dyson the one small 'working part' is so weak

disappointed – I upgraded from last years model (yellow colour, can't remember the model number). my original vaccum was fantastic. it was perfect for dog hair, we have two, and all sorts of debrie carted in by my kids. sadly, I cannot say the same for this one. I asked my retailer (which happened to be a manager) what the difference was between my old one and… Read more
this model. I was told 'a better filter'. so I purchased it.
my house is mainly floorboards which is the problem. the turbo head cuts up debrie and flicks it around the house, I don't have clean floor once I have finished!! I called my retailer and spoke to the other store manager and he then explained the turbo head and said it's only for carpet!! I asked if I could swap for a standard vaccum connection and he said I would have to purchase it. which I'm not prepared to do considering I paid $800 for the vac!!! :/
so save yourself a lot of money and go for a basic dyson - especially if you have floors boards....

Last chance – Purchased 2 DC23s after all of the hype. One for us and 1 for son. Been an unmitigated disaster since Day 1. Just refuses to pick up small pieces of fluff and strands of hair. Brushes finally stopped turning. vacuuming became a nightmare. Spent more than $1600. Had a Miele before and had no problems. Tried all of the 'fixes' online and via the… Read more

Expensive Mistake – Every time I get this monstrosity out of the cupboard am I filled with regret for being such a fool to listen to a sales person at the Good Guys and parting with nearly $1.000 DOLLARS! A little over 6 months ago I made this purchase due to the fact I have three family members who have dust allergies , a golden retriever with lots of hair loss… Read more
and three young boys who constantly drop bits and pcs on the floor! I also explained to the Good Guys representative that I was arthritic in my hands. So the rep introduced this vacuum cleaner. I had a quick trial run and was told it could keep beds dust free too...sold!!
Omg! It really did clean the carpets like no other vacuum had done but living in Australia there is more hard floor than carpet generally and its not very good I picking anything up that's anymore than a couple of mm's of the floor! BUT oh what a chore! NOISY, HEAVY AND CUMBERSOME! Can't use it to vacuum beds as its too heavy and its a definite don't even try it to cleaning the car! I used to use this nearly every day but I have now identified that this is the cause of a muscle strain across my chest which has caused me great anxiety..
For now I have purchased a small lightweight vax machine which does the in between vacuuming until I can convince my husband to part with more cash for a vacuum cleaner...he's really unhappy too!
It wont be a Dyson for sure. Great at cleaning carpet Heavy, Noisy, Cumbersome and Expensive

Expensive for what it is – I bought this vac 9 months ago in February 2013 to replace my old bagless Dyson which eventually stopped working after a long life. I also have several other brand vacs accumulated over the years. This Dyson is good at cleaning carpet with the power head, and it packs away neatly into a small bundle for storage. The supplied attachment for hard… Read more
surfaces is not so good at picking up dirt. This is really a vac for carpet.
This is the most pricey vac I have bought and I should be using it more. But when it comes time to vacuum, I tend to choose the other vacs over this one, because:
1) It's noisy. There is no adjustment to slow it down. It sounds like it's always straining. My other vacs sound quiet and effortless by comparison.
2) It's heavy and cumbersome to move around. I dread lugging it up the stairs, so it stays downstairs. I have 2 other vacs for upstairs.
3) Small capacity for dust requires frequent emptying. The large canister looks as if it could hold a lot of dust, but in reality there is another canister just inside. All the collected dust goes into the narrow space between the inner and outer walls of the canisters. It needs emptying very quickly, sometimes as often as once per room.
4) Re-exposure to dust when emptying. Each time I empty the canister I am exposed to plumes of dust. I often have to use my fingers to reach inside the canister to grab chunks of dust out, because the dust doesn't always just fall naturally out of the canister -- it's often lodged between those two walls.
I don't have allergies and am not particularly sensitive to dust, but with this vac my eyes go red and puffy and my throat feels dry soon after emptying it. I don't get this with any of my other vacs, and I didn't get this with my old Dyson either, probably because the old Dyson only required one emptying at the end and all the dirt came out in one lump.
I wouldn't choose to buy this vac again, even though it still works fine. It's not a bad vac. But a good vac needs to do more than removing dust from the floor .. it also has to keep that dust away from people and be easy to use. Cleans carpet well. Packs away neatly Noisy. Heavy. Small capacity requires frequent emptying with re-exposure to dust plumes

Turbine head very frustrating – After a couple years of use (with regular cleaning) my Dyson turbine head has stopped working. I've called the helpline, but after seeing similar posts here, I guess the turbine head is not "top of the line" as the lady on the other end told me. As I could not find the receipt and figured that the warranty on my unit is shot anyway, I decided to… Read more
take the turbine head apart. (Yes! I dissected the thing!) The turbine head sounded funny and I figured that something either got stuck in there or a piece might have broken off. Apparently, the fan inside got disengaged from the gear that turns the belt. I am not sure why this has happened but without the fan turning (which is the sole power for the brushes turning) the turbine head is rendered useless. I was unable to dissect it any further as the fan and the plastic case seems to come in one unit. So for a $130 piece of appliance that relies solely on this piece of plastic holding onto a piece of steel rod, this does seem like a total waste. Vacuum good. Turbine head very, very bad.
Great for asthmatics and allergy sufferers! – I bought this vacuum near three years ago and it hasn't missed a beat since! I suffer asthma as well as a dust mite allergy and since purchasing this vacuum my symptoms have decreased! When you do a standard vacuum of the house it's amazing to see what the dyson will pick up, it's gross really. The turbine head makes mince meat of dust mites… Read more
and any other icky stuff lurking in the depths of carpet. The mini turbine head is EXCELLENT! Definitely worth the money, it sucks up so much skin flakes in our mattress, dirt and other wonders within the car and also those hard to reach spots where the larger turbine head just can't reach.
I ended up bartering Harvey Norman down from $979 (or so) to $750 which included extended warranty and a toy vacuum cleaner for my daughter - this was a promotion at the time. Definitely worth shopping around and take the time to research if you are an allergy sufferer like myself.
I read heaps of articles and was willing to pay $1000 for my health. Miele, Kambrook, and other brands just didn't have the same allergy rating as Dyson or Electrolux. I'm glad I went with Dyson in the end because the electrolux just looked like it could break easily. Does everything it states. Reliable, easy to pack away, best vacuum I have had ever! The cyclonic drums are a little hard to clean, they get covered in dirt/skin/ick and just take a little time to wipe out with a damp cloth. I plan to do this every 6 months.
