This is the best vac we have ever had. It is our third Dyson model and we wouldn't consider any other manufacturer – We use the DC50 for all our floors which are tiles and carpets. It is very easily to clean and empty, even the filters are easy to take out, clean & put them back in. Show details
My old Dyson DC8 was far superior – My husband purchased the DC50 for me after my old faithful DC8 died. At first I thought that I was being a bit over critical because I was used to my old DC8 so I persisted using it. Unfortunately, 3 years later and I still get frustrated with the DC50- hair gets caught in numerous places, blocking the tubing and stopping it from sucking properly.… Read more
It seems to have problems picking up any particles larger than everyday dust and it’s hopeless on my hard floors.
Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend the DC50.

Great Suction – I bought a Dyson Multi Floor when on sale at BigW of all places. I haven't had much luck with vacuum cleaners in the past, probably because I either bought cheap, or was sucked in by a sales person into buying something I didn't want, usually for too much money, only to get it home to find that it was no different to the last disaster. This one,… Read more
however, is brilliant. I've had it for 5 months now and it is still working fantastically. Having recently moved into a brand new house and wanting to protect the carpets as much as possible and also having 2 teenage girls with extremely long hair and it gets everywhere and into everything. The turbo head on the Dyson makes sure I get every piece of hair off the floor and the attachments get into everything else.
The only down side of this cleaner is that it's a little on the heavy side, but this is a small issue when compared to how good it is. I've heard that Dyson make the best and if tis unit is any indication, I have no reason to doubt that. It's worth paying a little more to protect your investment you made in your house and floor coverings
worst vacuum ever – i am a 13 year old boy, living in a double story house with 5 other people. I am often the one with job of vacuuming. two weeks ago we bought the dyson ball vacuum hoping it would be an upgrade. the box came delivered to us with like 12 parts to it. it took me an my sister at least 3/4 of an hour to put it together. the instructions were not clear… Read more
at all. the suction of the vacuum was ok but not great, you usually are having to go over a few time before cleaning. the vacuum is quite heavy, its like the dyson decided one day "lets put everything for the vacuum in 4x1x1 foot compartment and sounds like the start of a car engine and it is nearly impossible to manoeuvre I usually have to go back twist and then forward. our floors are mostly white tiles and carpet upstairs and the area I vacuum ios quite large. it also lets out this weird metal burning smell and the compartment space is really small. eg. my parents had a Christmas party two days ago after it finished I had to vacuum and had to empty it twice. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS VACUUM!!!!!!!!!!!!

The benchmark by which all others are judged – We bought a new vacuum cleaner 4 months ago. The old one was breaking this, $35. Then that, $50. bits here and there while the main unit seemed OK. But, time to get a new one. So went to a vacuum 'shop' and got sold a Hoover bagless vibrating power head electronic something or other. What a mitsake! (yes, just like that was) Bloody disaster. 3… Read more · 3
filters would clog up at least twice trying to vax this little dogbox. Of course as they clog, suction dies. Anyway, struggled with it for 4 months before throwing a hissy-fit, packing it up and returning it as 'not fit for purpose as advertised or sold'. Got our $399 back.
Took that money, researched around the net, asking others what they have and use etc etc. Hmm even in independent reviews (ie, NOT by the manufacturer) they keep sayin 'compared to a Dyson', 'not as good as a Dyson but then only half the price of a Dyson' and so on.
I see the pattern. Dyson is the benchmark by which others are measured. So I think to myself, Paul, if Dyson is the hallmark then Dyson it is. Oh the price of a Dyson woohoo!! Certainly not cheap.
But then people who actually HAVE one swear by it, and some of them are going on 10 years and still good. Bite the bloody bullet and shell up for a Dyson.
As it turned out with some finely honed negotiating skills and the willingness to haggle till it hurts, I ended up buying a Dyson DC50 (upright bagless) for $447. Yes folks, 50 clams more than that Hoover. It was RRP of $597, and The Good Guys had them marked down to $497. Cool methinks, that'll do. I get to the counter to pay and asked if that can be bettered for cash. yesiree! another $50 clams in my pocket! Happy as.
Well, not to be outdone on the vacuum happiness stakes after I assembled it (clever engineering I have to admit ALREADY to get an upright into that box. I really DO admire the mechanical engineers who work such things out) I work out the how all the bits go, how to remove the extendable hose and so on.
Then switch it on. Hooey! OK first vac on the entryway carpet and about 2 square metres of car-pet in the lounge. Well make like a German Friendly Airline!! It sucked up about half a container of 'stuff'. Awesome.
But not only it picked up that 'stuff' that the last one ignored and spread around, some of it was so fine it was like talcum powder and IT DIDN'T let it out!
Well folks. It works as advertised.

5 years of hard work – My home has large areas of both ceramic & carpet. It has worked extremely well & when it needs replacement Dyson is the brand I will go for.I admire good design & Dyson has it in heaps.I like other people have a shedding dog & in every way it has exceeded my expectations. At times I have given this vacuum cleaner work beyond its design capacity &… Read more
when Isulffered loss of suction I must admit it is a little difficult to clean out blockages particularly in motor head tube.To Phil in his review I would suggest that he cleans all his filters including the one situated on the side of the ball.
Awesome! – I hated vacuuming till I got the Dyson! I can't say anything more than it amazing! It cost $$ but it's so worth it! I've had mine for 7 years with a shedding dog in the house half carpet half tiled. Vaccumunf is not the chore it used to be! It's easy to clean, no bags or complicated filters required. Good Vacuum Cleaner – We bought this vacuum cleaner almost 2 and half years ago and never looked back. I was looking for some bag-less options in vaccuum as well as the functionality of using it in bathroom, on carpet and our wooden timber flooring. Bought this one and extremely happy with its performance. Does the job well and gets all the dust and other stuff from… Read more
the floor.
Easy to clean and does not take much time.
It is light to use and easy to maneuver. It can be a bit clumpsy in the beginning till you get used to it, which shouldn't take more than a week or so.
Does not take much space and can be stacked in a corner which is great.
Happy with the product so far and would definitely go for dyson, if I had to buy another one.
Negative reviews
Disappointed – Works well on carpet and quite amazed at how much it picked up on first use, however on our timber and hard surface floors find it extremely frustrating with or without the brush working as seems very little suction and have to lift it onto a grain of rice before it will pick it up ! Worst Vacuum EVER! – I've had nothing but trouble with this vacuum since a few weeks in .... It stopped sucking initially ... Had to go back in for repair ... To be told that I had sucked up water and it was clogged ... YEAH I DON'T THINK SO!!! It is noisy ... sounds like it is going to implode ... there is next to no suction on the extendable arm when you are… Read more
using it with simple attachments... I had to buy the mini power head to get more suction out of it.. which was an extra $100 ... even pulling it apart and blowing it all clear with a compressor did nothing ... Disappointing and devastating!!
I would NOT RECOMMEND a dyson having had this experience to ANY of my family or friends ... It is under 3 years old and more issues again - Having to Upgrade to a different brand unfortunately to escape the issues. As a single mum to a special needs child who had to save her rear off for a whole year to be able to afford the $700+ price tag it saddens me to think someone would ever be in the same position i've been in :( and be left soo disappointed.
Terrible suction and waste of money – I honestly do not recommend this vaccumm at all, the suction is really worst , have to roll it a few times and it even scratches the floor. We have timber floor , which I believe is the easiest to vacuum but definitely not with this machine. The hose doesn't work at all, I bought it from masters like few months ago. I wish I could return this… Read more
useless vacuum but they are not taking any returns. Arghhg. From next time rather than spending $$$ on branded one I would stick to one from Kmart. It won't hurt much if that stops working in few months but at least that'd do better job than this. I am now back to the old one from VAX which is over 5 yrs old and still does a better job than this one

Best vac I’ve ever had! – Had my Dyson for a few years now and it works just as awesome as the day I bought it! I’ll always buy a Dyson over any brand when looking for vacs.. so easy to clean and maintain and always makes the carpets look like new.. even with 4 kids running through the house! Show details

Great sucker – Awesome machine. Very powerful and sucks up everything, even cat fur embedded in carpet. Very easy to use and love the different functions and attachments. Light to carry and move around and the dust disposal function is really cool and easy to do. Kids even love using it which is a big plus. Show details
Really good but bigger would be better – This vacuum is perfect but I have a big house so a bigger version of this Dyson would have been better. Recently my husband spilled red wine on the carpet, and he tried to clean the carpet by using salt and soda water, then he vacuumed it all up. Not a great idea. All the salt and liquid mixed together and solidified in the vacuum. The roller… Read more
struggled to spin so I had to replace the roller but now it works like a dream. Don't do what he did. i would still recommend this vacuum to anyone. Best one I've ever owned. I use it on both tiles and carpets. One thing I don't like is the hose attachment. It's a bit fiddly to use but does the job.
Very weak. Don't waste your money – When we first bought this vacuum, we spent a lot of time and consideration into buying this as it was really expensive. The motorhead does an okay job but the hose with the flathead tool doesn't absolutely nothing. There is literally no suction and for a brand that boasts how great their suction is, it is really a disappointment. The canister is… Read more
so tiny and clogs up so much that you even have to use your hands to get rid of the dirt. For a person who is sensitive to allergies like me, this is the opposite of what we want. Never a bag less like this never again. If you still want a Dyson, don't get one unless it's on sale for at least 40% of RRP. The materials seem cheap like some children's toy making these units very fragile like mine.
Failed miserably from the over priced and over advertised brand name Dyson – Review the Problems with DC50 machine and Dyson Customers Services: I was a loyal Dyson vacuum cleaner user. Had a Dyson DC5 for over 10 years, perfectly happy with it BUT it became too heavy as I aged (over 65). Gave it to my friend and she is still using it with no problems. Brought a DC50 multifloor 32 months ago. Domestic use in a 2 bedroom… Read more
villa. Problems with the machine - The hose is too short, kept splitting every 6 months or less. Dyson replaced the hose each time as it was under warranty. Hose so short that I have to lift the whole machine to vacuum my 9 foot high ceiling. The motor brew, Dyson charged me $165 for repairs. Then the machine got lost from Taran Point to Ryde, a mere 35 km distance. Problems with Customer Services: There was no definitive action plan from Dyson during the 14 days that it got lost. Eventually, I received a phone call from Dyson today to confirm it was lost and Dyson would replace my machine. In addition, I also contacted NSW Fair Trading to clarify the Consumer Guarantee Laws. Dyson was advised of the Contact. Summary of Problems encountered as a consumer: 1. Under Australian Consumer Laws, the machine cost $600, it was just 8 months out of warranty. BUT the motor is the heart of the machine, the repair cost SHOULD be waived, under Aus Consumer Guarantee Laws. Dyson refused to acknowledge the stated Consumer Laws. 2. There is no General Manager for Dyson in Sydney, tried to get beyond the "helpline"/ customer care services was like getting blood out of the stone. There is no other listing to contact Dyson. 3. Let's hope the replacement machine will arrive as promised."NOT HAPPY, Jan..."
Update 4-11-16: The replacement machine arrived safe and sound. Thank you Dyson and Star Trek Courier Service. BUT - Dyson ignored the inquiry from NSW Fair Trading and never responded to the email sent by Fair Trading. Out of desperation, I followed the option suggested by Fair Trading and submitted an Application to NSW Civil & Admin Tribunal (NCAT) to claim back the repair cost of $165 - based on the principles of Consumer Guarantee Laws. Then, a phone call came from Dyson, acknowledged my NCAT Application and offered to refund the $165. The whole incidence really really seriously tarnish Dyson Brand reputation.
Not that great – Won't pick up rice grains or anything bigger than furr or dust. Terrible. Always have to lift the head over the piece for it to sucked up. Pretty disappointing. Yes it has good suction but it's terrible at small pieces. Debated for ages on which one to get aND was told this would be perfect for our smaller house with 50 50 carpet and boards. Show details

Astonishingly unsuitable for domestic cleaning – This must be the most frustrating vacuum cleaner I've ever used. It's design for accessing difficult and dusty places is very very badly thought out. It's impossible to vacuum the tops of architraves without lifting the entire vacuum clearner off the ground. Even then the brush won't reach. The design for detaching and reattaching the flexible hose is totally un-intuitive.
Disappointed and annoyed – Very disappointed with the Dyson33. Now discontinued but not advised of this when I purchased it .. Useless for high pile or shag carpet as it won't push forward. The front of the vac head just pushes under!!! Also will not go from hard floor to carpet. I have to lock it upright and lift it onto carpet. Very heavy machine for a small household and… Read more
difficult to manoeuvre. I have used other Dyson vacs and was very impressed with them that's why I purchased this one..
Apologies for placing this review in the dc50 reviews. I have the do33 which I am not happy with.
Best vaccum ever, easy to store away beside washing machine.. my rugs look brand new after running – 2 BDRM unit tiled and carpet floors. The suction on this baby is the best.. It's easy to use, very light.. Has 2 separate filters. The advanced technology head has its own separate motor, makes vacuuming so much easier.. Love the extension hose tucked in the handle, this allows easy access to ceiling and corners. Makes decobwebbing an easy task.
Dyson DC50 – Recently purchased my first Dyson upright vacuum, can't believe I waited so long. The best vacuum I've ever used, lives up to all the hype about Dyson's. The performance and suction is excellent. It's so manoeuvrable, so much easier on your back as it is lightweight. Is equally great on any surface, the ease of which it adjusts to different surfaces is amazing.

Dyson DC50 Just out of warranty – 3 months over 2 year warranty & this vacuum needs urgent care. Appears hose that is used for wand isn't working. Very disappointed as this is my 3rd Dyson, first upright, others were barrel vacuum cleaners. Never had issues with them, I bought Dyson DC 50 because it was shown to me to pick up animal hair. Having two ragdoll cats, this upright worked really well until issues the past few weeks..

Pleased with purchase – We have all Timber floors we use to only sweep however that doesn't get the fine dust, so I bit the bullet and got the Dyson. I was a worried about the price however had already tried a couple of cheaper vacuums from Big W which just kept overheating. I almost got the Bissell which is half the price, but it was just way to heavy. The Dyson was… Read more · 1
easy to assemble and has a very neat holder for the tools, the hose is a bit stiff, it does a really good job on the floors and got most of the kitty litter on one pass, picked up pet and people hair easily did a great job on my sheep skin rug, and easily vacuumed edges and corners. I just hold it up against the edge so the brush can do its thing. Only thing I don't like is the accessory brush for doing edges and window gutters it is too soft this with the stiff hose made it hard to vacuum the window edges/gutters/tracks.
Excellent vacuum – We have struggled with a cheap Dyson alternative for years, and finally made the upgrade! Very happy. No excuses now for not vacuuming now. Very easy to assemble, quick delivery from the online store. Works well on wooden floors and extremely well on carpet! The amount of dust picked up compared to our previous vacuum was unbelievable! Nothing but trouble – I bought a Dyson on reputation. I have been so disappointed. My Dyson has been in for repairs under warranty and needed two new power heads. It now has another broken part. The vacuum is just 2 years old. It does not pick up everything on the hard floors either. Very Disappointed
not sure if it was worth the money – At 1st i thought it was great then a part broke so had it fixed through warranty, ever since then stuff gets stuck in the pipe no matter how small... the suction is great but i have to get long tweezers and fully pull the pip apart in the middle to get dust out... Im actually better off using my $80 vacuum from kmart as this doesnt happen but… Read more
obviously the suction is no where near as good as the dyson! I have 4 rooms with carpet and the rest in tiles and i usually sweep the tiles 1st... Not too happy and even when i rang and complained about stuff getting caught after the 1st fix i was told that nothing was wrong with it, now its out of warranty and it sucks!
Best vacuum I have used – This vacuum has amazing suction! The amount of dust it collects from carpet and rugs surprises me everytime. see every speck that's falls on the floor and it hasn't lost suction from so much use, I vacuum the carpets twice a week and I'm always amazed at how much dust it picks up, just shows how dirty carpets can get, the only bad thing is the chord, you have to wrap it up and put in over the vacuum. The vacuum itself can be a little hard to push on the carpet and rug but after you get used to it it's no drama, just means it's really getting into the carpet fibers :).
Wont pick up bird seed – I have the Dyson DC 50 ball Multi-Floor. I have birds and the seed gets on the floor. The Dyson just pushes it around. I have to pick it up and set it on the seed. I try sweeping the seed first but cannot get it all. The Dyson head seems to close to the floor to go over it. It picks up dust and dog hair and dirt great. it is fantastic on carpet and tile for that. Wont pick up small bird seed. Show reply
Won't suck on carpets – I recently bought a dyson, I was super excited because I have wanted one for years!! However I am sad that it doesn't vacuum well on my carpets as my home is 50% carpet! I did my research to see which vacuum would be the best... But I feel I was sadly misinformed about the dyson multi floor :(

Not worth the money – I had always wanted a dyson after hearing great things from many but found it difficult to justify the price, I have always had cheapies and just changed them up every couple of years. was expecting wonderful things after reading great reviews, and paying five times the amount I usually would for a vacuum cleaner, I was SO disappointed!
It just doesn't pick up most of the dirt, leaving bits of rice and crumbs even after I've gone over a spot 2 or 3 times, I think this is due to the shape of the head rather than suction, because the suction is very powerful. I find it is worse on tiled surfaces than carpet. Its also difficult to get into corners, the wand/ hose thing is very cumbersome and again is shaped in such a way that it will not pick up bits in hard to reach areas.
I have had to take it apart and clean it multiple times in the four months i've had it as it starts to smell.
For the price you pay for this vacuum cleaner it is nowhere near good enough!

Good Product with minor issues – I upgraded from a Dyson Barrel Vacuum to a Upright Dyson DC 50. Great product with few minor annoying areas. substance making it hard to pull out. Bin emptying does not get all the dust and particles out as hair and stuff seems to get stuck up high where you need to insert a sharp long object to get it out. Besides these few annoying issues the product seems to be good.
Good supplement to the big heavy vacuum for quick mid week cleans – I brought the DC50 to do quick during the week cleanups of the lounge, kitchen, dining and hallways (high traffic areas). It is a fairly large space, too much for one of the portables but I don't want to get out my big Dyson animal upright everyday as it weighs a tonne so only use it for the big weekly clean. I have one dog and two cats and it… Read more
is great on hair, but it does sometimes take more than one pass to pick up stray bits of kitty litter and small bits of catalogues or mail (paper, cardboard) that the cats have chewed up. (Whereas the larger upright, just sucks these straight up)
It is so light, which is why I brought it, easy to store with the handle being collapsible and makes me much more inclined to do a quick clean up nearly everyday. I have short pile carpet and tiles and it works well on both. Leaves pleasing just cleaned brush marks on the area rug.
As I only do quick cleanups not the whole house, I have no problem with the small bin, but would not recommend to vacuum the whole house with it as you would always be emptying.
I also have no problem with the short hose length as I only use it with the animal turbine tool to get hair off the couches so don't need it to reach far, but again if you were using it for your whole house it would be difficult to do all your skirting and reach the ceiling cornices with the short hose, would not recommend for that.
Overall, for what I plan to use it for the DC50 multifloor does what I need. A great supplement to my bigger vacuum.
