I will never use again. Only way to manage booking changes is to cancel and rebook. Daily prices had doubled by the time my booking needed to change, so to change my booking from 2 days to 1 day was going to cost more than the original 2 days. No flexibility. Unhelpful telephone service (waited over 20mins for call to be answered - then… Read more

insufficient English as a second language in the operator). Did not receive the car I booked, rather a smaller one. In the end had to pay 2 days rental fee for 1 day rental. Company who provided service (Hertz) would have been happy to reimburse 1 day but Economy Car Rentals did not permit.

Everything worked out and no surprises – It's always nice when "things just work"! And they did. Convenient to pick up the car in Cairns, quick and easy. We booked the "mystery car" and it was a very suitable one. Prices were as planned, no surprises. The only thing to note is that if you take out the additional insurance to cover the $5500 (AUD) excess and reduce it to nil, there is an… Read more

extra step in the process in the case of a claim. The car rental company would charge you the $5500 and you would then recover that from the insurer of the gap (they are different insurers). It could be more convenient to arrange insurance of the gap directly from the car rental co when you get there. I noticed that there are a lot of negative reviews, obviously bad experiences have been had by people, and normally I wouldn't bother writing a review, having had a good experience, but I thought, to be fair, I'd share mine this time!

Stole €1,403.59 from me – Rented a car with insurance from EconomyCarRentals in Dublin airport on April. Unprofessional & thieves – Car advertised as €426 including comprehensive insurance. Once booking confirmed, an email was sent, the amount charged was €562.23. Images attached as proof. When I tried to point this out to them, the reservation was cancelled with a €170 cancellation fee. Will NEVER use them. Do NOT USE them ever, no service, no professionalism and only lies when it comes to charges.

Very expensive SUV 4WD became very expensive FWD car – I've paid for SUV 4WD car and have got FWD car which was more then 40% more expensive than the same car in the other rentals companies. As a feedback I've got proposal of refund of 10% of the order value what us kind of stealing of money form the money which have been already stolen from me. I've been informed at the rental desk that I am not the only one who has been cheated by them this way. Stay away from these cheaters! Show details

I’m writing this with deep frustration and disappointment. I’m currently in a foreign country where I don’t speak the language, travelling with a young child — and the car we were given is in terrible condition. It has over 160,000km, every panel is… Read more

damaged, and it’s making alarming drivetrain or gearbox noises. I was genuinely afraid it might break down while we were hours away from the pickup location, with three weeks of rental still ahead.

What’s worse is that I’ve sent multiple emails — not one has been acknowledged. No response. No reassurance. Nothing. When you’re far from home, responsible for a child’s safety, and trying to do the right thing by alerting a company to a potential safety issue, being ignored is not just bad service — it’s deeply unsettling.

The message this sends is clear: once they’ve got your money, they’re no longer interested. No support. No accountability.

I would never recommend this company to anyone, especially families or travelers who need to feel safe and supported abroad.

Follow-up  · Questions were raised at pickup about the condition of the car, but we were given assurances regarding its reliability. After a long period of travel, the last thing we wanted was a confrontation. Unfortunately, once issues began appearing about a week into our trip, we were left feeling on edge in case something went wrong while driving. When… Read more

Ripped Off £660 for Wheel and Tyre Damage - Excess Cover Insurance Refused to Compensate! I had a terrible experience with EconomyCarRentals and the car rental company, Drivalin, that they arranged for me. period, so I raised a complaint immediately. However, I was instructed by the Drivalin staff to pay £660 for the supposed damage upfront and then claim it back through EconomyCarRentals.

To make matters worse, EconomyCarRentals has been completely unhelpful. They don’t provide a contact number for customer support, leaving me to rely on a website contact form to communicate my issues. One day after I paid the £660, EconomyCarRentals informed me that my booking included an excess for damages, which I assumed was protected, but apparently, damages to tyres and wheels are excluded from coverage.

The lack of transparency and support from both EconomyCarRentals and Drivalin is infuriating and feels like a conspiracy to rip off customers. I find their response utterly unsatisfactory and will be escalating this claim to the Financial Ombudsman Service. If I had seen a review like this before making my booking, I would have avoided EconomyCarRentals and Drivalin at all costs!

not have been there and would wipe off. They were overheard in their office, by two people, saying that as we had no excess, they would write off all the other (preexisting) damage on the vehicle to us. Later i got an email with photos showing many minor scratches to the vehicle that were there when we hired the car. When we hired the car the staff member noted these. Illegal, unethical and outrageous. Fortunate to have the two people overheard the conversation. Reporting them to the AFCA. Initial email to email address supplied by Everythingfleet bounced back. Still waiting on a response to an email to their head office.

We booked a Kia SUV petrol but got a Ford Everest diesel Got used to the car eventually.,it would have been better if we had a manual to work out how to operate it. The car used something called adblue and we kept getting messages that we had to top it up. We rang and were told to do it and they would reimburse which they did. Obviously it should have been filled before we hired it. Show details

From the moment I walked in the door I received the best service from Renay, and she even went further as to upgrade my car and also add an app to my phone to get around the city easier. On 06 December 2025, I arrived at the EconomyCarRentals supplier's (Mauriconnect) office and transacted on my credit card for both the MUR 8400.00 for outstanding rental period cost, and MUR 49000.00 deposit for excess to any possible damage etc. The transaction seemed to have gone through for the MUR 8400.00 (£141), yet it was not taken for the… Read more

MUR 49000.00. I was not aware of this until my return to the UK.

On the return date 13 December 2025, at the same office I gave the same credit card - as they stated this would be the refund back due to the car being returned in the same condition. On return, I noticed that this was used as a payment, and not a credit. So there is the first lie.

After six weeks, I am still awaiting payment of this deposit MUR 49000.00 (GBP £826). They even sent me a WhatsApp message a few days ago asking for my bank details to refund - this after numerous emails to the company (hence, Mauriconnect's client) I booked the car hire with. I sent Mauriconnect these details on the same day, yet I have still not received my refund.

It seems to me like they are doing anything to not pay back this significant amount of money they owe to me.

EconomyCarRentals have washed their hands with this clearly, in not wanting anything more to do with this unethical and illegal process.

Dreadful and stressful experience.

Absolutely disgusting. I hired what i thought would be a new Subaru Legacy for my family xmas holiday in Christchurch, and the car i was given was a 1996 Xtrail, battered and bruised, it smelt disgusting. I had to go down the road to Go Rentals who were fantastic. I then called customer service and the representative (overseas) basically told me to go get F/cked. The most underwhelming experience and will never use Economy Car Rental ever again. Show details

If I save one person, the heartache of being left without the vehicle they booked then there will be some justice. If I could give 0 stars, I would. July 2025 after flight from Australia, and after waiting an hour for the bus to take us there, get told our car is not available and that we can have an alternative vehicle which was not big enough for our luggage - we did try - for an additional £600.00. Absolutely totally unhelpful. In the end we caught bus back to airport and hired a car with Europe Car so we could start our holiday. After complaining to Economy Car Rentals, we have been told that as we refused the car offered, we do not get our deposit refunded - Drivalia omitted the fact they wanted to charge us more than our contract for a so-called similar vehicle and that the car did not meet our needs. Drivalia also lied about the alternative vehicle they offered and at no time offered a bigger vehicle. When I raised this with Economy Car Rentals, they did not respond. Have sent a number of emails to the company regarding refund of the deposit paid to them, to no avail. Just totally ignored the facts and do not reply. Appalling customer service. As we paid a deposit to Economy Car Rentals, which Drivalia claims they did not receive we expect a refund for services not delivered. I have no idea how Economy Car Rentals can keep the deposit of over $700 for a service that was not provided. My advice is while a cheaper car may look like a good deal, better to go with reputable companies so your travel arrangements aren’t messed up.

WARNING: Economy Car Rentals are outright scammers. I booked a car through them at Milan Airport for 10:00 a.m. and paid €250 in advance. At 11:00 a.m. — just ONE hour later — I called the rental company (“RentalPlus”) to explain, and was told my reservation had… Read more

been cancelled and the car had already been given to someone else. When I called Economy Car Rentals, they coldly replied that one minute after 10:00 the car is released — and still refused to refund my €250 deposit.

So there I was, stranded at the airport, forced to pay double for a last-minute car from another company. Days later, when I called again to ask for my money back, they refused once more.

This isn’t just bad service — it’s plain theft. They take your money and hide behind “policy.” Avoid this company at all costs. They are thieves.

I booked a car through Economy Car Rentals and paid AUD$26.72 upfront to secure the booking. Their website proudly claims “No surprises at the desk!” - yet that’s exactly what I got. When I arrived at the rental desk in Phuket, the agency refused to release the car because I had a Visa Debit card instead of a credit card for the deposit. My Visa… Read more

Debit card is accepted worldwide and has never been declined anywhere else. I even offered to pay the deposit in cash, but was refused.

Economy Car Rentals hides behind buried fine print that “credit card only” is required. This was not clearly or prominently disclosed at booking, making their “no surprises” claim blatantly false. The reality is simple: they took my $26.72, provided nothing in return, and then refused to refund me.

Their excuse? Terms and conditions. In practice, it’s a one-way policy designed to protect themselves while leaving the customer stranded and out of pocket. That is misleading, deceptive, and unfair conduct.

Even though the amount was small, the principle matters. Their business model is built on traps and technicalities. If they can mislead me, they’ll mislead others.

Warning: Do not trust Economy Car Rentals. Their slogan says “No surprises at the desk” — but the only surprise you’ll get is being left without a car and out of pocket.
