Ours has already had repairs some years ago. We went to use it as normal last night and as soon as we tried to turn on either of the two front (induction) plates it trips the meter box breaker and a big flash can be seen between the two hot plates. The back two plates work well.

Any clues as to the cost of this? Is it worth even a call out fee to be told "chuck it out"

I would not try to repair it as the cost of a new one would most likely cheaper than the repairing cost.

Hi Dicko, I cannot recall the cost of repair but I know it wasn't feasible compared to a new one. I purchased one from Ikea for $599, all induction plates, two which can be "joined" to take extra large pans and with 5 year warranty standard. Had it since the old one packed it in and so far it has been great.

IKEA sell Electrolux induction hobs. BEWARE! My Smaklig induction hob died after a few short months. The Electrolux technician deemed that the hob was not installed properly; Warranty void! The professional kitchen installer has since shown me that the install was, in fact, superior to the specs as shown in the IKEA manual. Having to go to tribunal now because IKEA are sticking to the story of the technician's 15 minute visit.

After 3 years , our electrolux induction hop has stopped working, we received an E3 error message. Service tech says 2 power boards blown, it will be $1000 to repair. He insists that the lack of a 5 mm ventilation gap under the stone at the front is the cause (although this was the case only for the first 18 months, then we put it in). Have all of you installed a ventilation gap.?

Electrolux replaced and installed a new unit at a substantial discount.

I dropped the front of the top draw by the recommended 5mm to acheive the recomended gap.

Do you really think a small gap will make a difference.?

I installed ours with a gap underneath 50mm and a ventilation gap under the top of around 25mm... blew up just last week and is only 2yrs 3 months old (3 months out of warranty). Electrolux wants us to pay a non refundable $145 call out fee just to see what's wrong... tempted to cancel the call out and never buy Electrolux again!
