Great early poor long term – We were happy with this product initally but it has failed the test of time. Just out of warranty we had issues with the head and the control. Decided on purchasing a replacement and similar problems have occurred. This morning I tried to extend the shaft above the head and it has completely pulled out bringing a fine spring with it and can only… Read more
reattach with gaffer tape. The motor performs well but the attachments are of very poor quality. Avoid this product if you want longevity from your vacuum cleaner.
Not satisfied – Heavy. Filter system not good. Dust every where after vacuuming. Used on carpet mainly. Does not tip over but heavy to pull around. Difficult to clean main filter and the seals (which are small) do not hold the dust in the machine. Show details
crappy and expensive – I have no carpet and a studio style room yet this vacant manage this small space. Nothing but trouble. I've been using a friend's vacuum cleaner now for a couple of years as the Electrolux has been nothing but trouble. Now it is stuck in the filter cleaning mode and I can't turn it off. I did regularly clean the filters but the cheap $30 vac I got… Read more
from Bunnings has out lasted this ridiculously expensive machine. The cheap vac was used to clean the shed and building waste and I saved my 'good' vacuum for the house (tiled). I expected the cheap to die yet it out performed the Electrolux every time. I've always bought Electrolux as did my mother but no more (47years). What a heap of expensive JUNK,

Great machine – Great machine works perfectly only need to clean the cyclone and filter regularly. Once you do that it works like a dream. No issues to many people complaining about this product because they don't clean them every so often. It's important to do this. Take care of the vacuum and it will last forever.
Fantastic but heavy vacuum cleaner – I originally chose this vacuum cleaner because it came with a motorised brush bar which helps to lift out the stubborn dirt and hair out of my medium pile carpets. I normally use it to vacuum medium pile carpets, skirting boards, ceilings, vents, mattresses, under beds, and stairs. It has allowed me to clean each and every surface I have wanted to… Read more
clean (from the floor to the ceiling). Also, it is a truly powerful, power-variable, and quiet machine (no high pitched squealing like Dysons, but it instead gives off a nice hum) but is a little too heavy to tug around corners, and have sit on the stairs (which it isn't very stable on, so it has taken numerous tumbles). I did not have to purchase any additional accessories as it came with all the ones I will ever use: motorised floor tool, hard floor tool, crevice tool, and upholstery tool. I have never had to contact electrolux but have followed online tutorials (such as those on youtube) on how to clean the filters effectively after each use. The only kind of 'servicing' I have had to do purchase a new set of filters, and give the filters a clean by turning the filters within the machine and brushing the dirt off them. After reading the other reviews about this machine, I thought I was very lucky to still have mine function after all these years without any issues. Perhaps the reason for this was because I regularly (after each house vacuum session) clean out the filters, empty the cyclonic dust canister, check for clogs and check out the rear hepa and foam filters. The fact is that every bag less vacuum uses filters (yes, even the newly released Dyson 'filterless' cinetic vacuum cleaners). These filters are the lungs of the vacuum, and without cleaning them, excessive dirt will build up and choke the vacuum cleaner (like smoking in humans). Overtime this will result in premature motor damage and/or other damages to the machine. Without going excessive detail on cleaning the filters, I clean them by: tapping out the rear hepa filter and ensuring that I can light pass through it, turning the right hand hand side filter with the machine plugged in to remove as much dust that I can (note that you may have to allow the machine to clean the filter up to 10 times to get it as clean as possible) then I take both filters out and tap them outside and brush them clean with a paint brush. Also, I tend to swap to the next (left) filter for the next vacuum session (the machine only uses the right sided one). Finally, I have never had any issues with the powerhead over the years unlike others. This may also be because clean this powerhead after each use by taking the brush out and removing any wrapped around hairs. Overall, it has been a reliable machine, but it loses one star because it is too heavy to tug around on medium pile carpet.
Can't live with out and it. farmyard friendly – We have carpet in 3/4 of our farmhouse. Sand and dirt, dog hair and it does a great job. yes the twin clean filter does not clean it's self. My husband cleans the filters and the vacuum with a compressor now and again and keeps going like new. the heads are now broken and the wheels worn flat and cord doesn't retract all the way but that's expected I use it everyday and it is 5 years old. I'd buy another when needed

Good vacuum while it lasts – I'd like to thank the numerous other reviewers here who helped me track down the reason why my 8280 is not working properly - specifically, the poor quality connectors in the handle/remote control that break over time. This is a great vacuum but seems beset with some quality issues. I've had 5 good years with it and it's been fine, although I've… Read more
been very fussy with cleaning the filters. It's quiet, it cleans very well, and the remote control on the handle is very convenient, although with hindsight it might not be the best location given the abuse the handle cops in its lifetime - being dropped on the floor, etc.
Recently, the power started cutting on and off while vacuuming, very annoying! After coming onto PR and reading the numerous other reviews I worked out the poor quality of the connectors in the handle were to blame. The replacement handle is an eye-watering $190+, but I called Electrolux and [name removed] was very helpful and efficient in finding a suitable resolution for me - thanks [name removed]! I now have a new handle which I will treat with kid gloves in the hope of getting another 5 years out of the vac. When you pay $700 for something you sure want to get a few years out of it.
Thanks to all the contributors on here. If you own one of these vacuums, my advice is to clean the filters religiously and don't drop the handle or bash it around unnecessarily.
underperfoming, brittle vacuum cleaner – cyclonic, twin cleaner filters, light blue in colour. l find this machine does not live up to the sales hype when l purchased it. At $899.00 i expected a good cleaner instead the filters get clogged too quickly and the handle has just broken making it impossible to use. The filters only clean one side and they don't do if properly anyway!!!!
Poor quality for the price – Bought this vacuum cleaner expecting it would last. It's only been a few years, and we haven't spent a lot of time going nuts using it - we're far from being clean freaks! Overall it has been a good product that we have been happy with performance-wise and feature-wise, but ultimately it has been fatally let down by a few tiny sub-standard… Read more
parts...
The electrical contacts that join the various pieces together have broken off - in multiple places now. Clearly the contacts (which are simply little strips of metal bent back on themselves to make them a little springy) just aren't strong/thick enough to last.
The first time one of these contacts broke - happened only after a year or so of use - this one I managed to work-around by bending what was left of the electrical contact into a new shape; so we were able to keep going for another year or so. That was on the main handle part that you hold at the end of the hose. Now both the electrical contacts have broken off at the other junction - at the bottom of the telescopic wand. No way to bodgy those up for a fix, they broke off too deep to do anything with the bits that are left behind.
Of course, you can't do anything yourself to replace these little tiny bits; even though they'd only cost a few cents each [in theory]. Instead, a new hose/handle costs at least $160 and a new telescopic wand costs at least $80...!
Not impressed that I now have to embark on replacing this vacuum cleaner after such a (relatively) short time and for such an easily avoidable reason (ie. they could've just spent a couple more cents on better quality contacts]. Big disappointment!

Problem after problem and after problem – Horrible piece of expensive vacuum cleaner cost me more than $699 to buy this and last me one year! I am so disappointed. Bought it from Harvey Norman 3 years ago and loved it for 6months. I moved and packed it away and have been sitting in store room for the last 3 years. Today, I opened the storage and tried to use it. The motor burns! That's… Read more
horrible!! I went to the shop, they said they cannot help me at all! I need to pay another $400 to fit this piece of rubbish! Not impressed! I only used it less than 6months in total! Waste of my money. Will NEVER buy anything from this company!
Disappointed in lifespan - plastic just crumbles??? – At the beginning, there was a lot to like about this machine - bagless, HEPA filter, strong suction and the Electrolux name - which used to mean something We use it for polished floors and rugs, and we were impressed at the efficient cleaning and strong suction Since then, the filters have done their little dance, as others have found, where… Read more
the cleaning light comes on, and even after rotating the filter, taking out the filter and dusting it, changing the filter around, the light remains on, no cleaning is possible. The solution appears to let the machine have a good lie down - switch off and disconnect, leave for a few hours (day, even) and then hope it springs back into life
Now to the real tragedy - the column and hose fittings, as well as the cleaning head (non-turbo) are just crumbling away! Either a chunk will fall off somewhere, or a join will split, and the once grey colour is now brownish. And, 'no' it hasn't been kept in sunlight.
I wonder what happened to the Electrolux brand quality?
piece of rubbish – this has been an absolute waste of money I purchased it from Myer they were good gave me a reasonable discount still cost me $399 it has consistently had problems the hard soft floor tool with the hose in it always sucks itself flat the machine although has had the filter maintenance provided always cuts out on overload and then you need to take… Read more

Disappointed and frustrated! – I also thought that by purchasing a more expensive vacuum cleaner, it would serve me well. I had a high opinion of Electrolux as my former barrel model had given outstanding service and was the main reason I again purchased Electrolux. Six years on and now, the power keeps going on and off. For no reason and with no pattern as to how long it… Read more
runs before it cuts out, I have reached the end of my patience. It is extremely frustrating and VERY disappointing. I have now decided that I have no choice but to replace it, and it won't be with another Electrolux!

Had better luck than most people it seems – This vacuum cleaner has been good for the past couple years, good points would be the suction, handle controls and how the handle and hoses click on and off easily, but it seems the power head has eventually gone on mine as well, being out of warranty, I've rang around and they fall just short of $200 for a replacement head, seems a bit expensive
I brought a lemon!!!!!!!!!! – This vacuume was not cheap at over $600 dollars. It has been a real nightmare!!!!!! Seem to go back and forward to the workshop. The head is faulty again! (Lost count how many times this item has been replace.) It seem I got a lemon from electrolux. Not happy at all.

Great while it worked – We bought the cyclonic twin clean in 2009 and we're really happy with its performance. The long cord made vacuuming easy. The suction remained strong and I liked that you could easily clean the entire machine, filters and all, which we did regularly. We paid around $700 for it and am very disappointed with its life span. When spending that… Read more
amount on an appliance we would expect to see at least 10 years, as you would expect from other appliances such as washer, dreyer and so on.
We have had the same problem as most others by the sounds of it, the filter light cuts in and out and we are unable to start the vacuum.
We went with electrolux as we had family members the have had their electrolux for 15-20 years. Maybe they are using cheaper less reliable parts these days. Might try Dyson out next.

Reliability doesn't match the price – I needed a new vacuum and tired of spending $100-$150 for others that didn't last or do a great job, so I decided to to spend up and purchase the Z8280. I have a short haired dog who's hair penetrates deep into the carpet so the salesmans great sales job of the power heads ability grabbed me. So instead of a Dyson I went with this product. first use I soon found that it did a good job in sucking up the dust etc, it would only suck about 40-50% of the dogs hair, instead I had to use the thin nossil on my knees, and have to do so and or sweep the carpet with a hard brush to pull the hairs the surface. About a year in I started to see the light on the power head go off and on, About 2.5/3 years it didn't work, I found that the copper pins had broken. That was the small problem, the biggest problem is the twin clean, it has never worked, and each time I've tried to use it the machine just goes on and on and on. Today it's doing the same, it won't start other then to be in that mode, finally after so long I have given up.

Another Lemon from Electrolux – As I had a previous electrolux barrel vacuum that was indestructable and still going strong after 20 years I had come to associate electrolux with quality products .That is , till I bought the Electrolux Z8220 Twin clean, it worked well for 6 months then I noticed the self cleaning didn't work any longer so I had to remove the filters and use the… Read more
barrel cleaner to get them clean .Just out of warranty the circuit board failed and after talking to a licesed repairer he told me the circuit boards were faulty and even if I replaced it would fail again . In keeping with the trend – I'm here to share the same grief about this product. We are always willing to spend more if it means we get a superior product. However, this isn't the case here. Two repairs, one replaced head and now a replacement hose-seems like a design fault to me, on the cards. Would've thought that we'd get longer out of this high priced vacuum.

Not worth the price – I purchased the twin clean cyclonic with turbo head over the Dyson, just under 5 years ago and wish I didn't. I bought the Electrolux as I trusted the brand for being long lasting quality products ( my family had used them for decades). Sadly after some issues, I took the unit to an authorised repairer and was quoted over $400 for repair. The unit… Read more
itself was $600 brand new. I had the same issues I read repeatedly here, the power head stopped working and the unit would also switch itself off and lights would flash despite throrough cleaning of filters. A great vacuum cleaner while it worked but not worth the investment versus repair costs. Never again Electrolux.

Excellent features pity about the exceedingly poor reliability – This vacuum cleaner works well ... when it goes - the filters do an excellent job and stop dust re-entering the home - but at $600 this machine should be more reliable - The quality of electrical connectors is poor and the handle design flawed - the electrical connectors in the handle are made of thin - low quality copper springs which are prone… Read more
to failure due to any flex in the telescopic handle and insertions eventually breaking the spring and stopping electricity to the power head - This is not a cheap replacement or fix as it's a whole new hose and handle piece at an eye watering $160. I've also replaced the power head once ($155) all within 5 years. I'm now up for another hose and handle assembly (yes another $160 !!!) as the same copper spring has again broken in the same place due to the inherently poor design which will no doubt be a problem again should I replace this handle assembly again. My question of Electrolux is have you ever done a reliability test on the products so that you know how they will perform over a reasonable period of time (say 5 years) of normal wear and tear without failing. The comments on this forum suggest (and some people are screaming in frustration) that you need to review your designs for RELIABILITY, surely one of the key features of any top end brand.

Never again – Purchased the twinclean for $700 four years ago. Used it for three years and a plastic part in the floor tool broke. Purchased the hose, rod & floor tool from the vacuumspot website and paid $191 for it. Shortly after it stopped working, filters were regularly cleaned, it just wouldn't turn on. Took it for repairs and it needed a new motor which… Read more
cost me $145. One of the plastic floor tool components broke again after one and a bit years, and again it just stopped working, it only turns on for a little while and goes off again. I asked vacuumspot to replace the floor tool free of charge but they replied that electrolux declined. I am going to report this piece of rubbish to the Consumer Protection as surely life expectancy for a $700 vacuum cleaner is longer than three years. And needles to say not going to buy anything from electrolux or associated companies ever again.

Never had a problem – Have had my Z8280for more than 4 years and it still works perfectly and is as efficient as when I bought it. the filters and the power head needs dismantling and thoroughly cleaning fairly frequently. When the motor keeps cutting out and the cleaning light blinks it means CLEAN ME!!! If you do that then your Twin Clean should give you many years good service.

Not a good buy! – We haven't received value for money. Bought Vacuum in 2008. Power head needed repairing 2012 and now, 2014 the vacuum turns itself off intermittently as well as the power head not working properly again. Repair man cleaned lint out off the handle but still it turns itself off. Given up on using the power head. Had good suction for pet hair (nb past tense) Too many problems for its price.

How to fix the head when it stops spinning – I bought a replacement turbo head for the Z8280 and it lasted 14 months ( the original lasted 26 months,) so just outside of both warranties, so I thought I would take a look at them both. I found that by taking 4 screws out you can get to the low voltage DC motor, this has two brushes which I took out and cleaned and hey presto they are both up and running again. Good Vacuum
Dying...again! – Bought this Twinclean about eight years ago. Not cheap but highly recommended by Choice and the store we bought it from. Four years is not long enough for the life of a cleaner – This model was good to start with though I am very dissapointed with its performance now. For some time now the suction hasnt been good. Now two small eletrical connectors have snapped in the hose handle and the telescopic tube, which are not replacable. So now I need to buy new handle and tube the cost of which is ridiclous. I have always had electrolux (37) years and will not get another.
Not the same product that you bought years ago. Just rubbish now.
hopeless very dissapointed – for first 12 months great after that terrible filters cleaned regularly even washed...no joy ,so much for a trusted name/brand. The plastic cone filter in the dustbarrell seems to where the blockage always is once its covered in dust (after a few mins) it loses all suction . so much for making housework easier:-( :-( was good at the start loses suction in minutes
A total waste of money. I will never buy Electrolux products ever again, they are just rubbish & not what they used to be like.
Worst Electrolux Ever – Vaccum is brilliant when new, but very quickly dies & is very costly to repair. i have owned 2 other electrolux machines & can not fault..
