Ergobaby Original Sport

Fantastic, easy to use! – This is an exceptional baby carrier, so easy to get on and off on your own. I really loved the feeling of having my babies so close and it was easy to breastfeed while wearing it. The only criticism is that it can be too hot and sticky in Queensland's weather. Show reply
Loved our Ergobaby Carrier – I purchased the Ergobaby Sport back in 2011 for my SIL when my niece was born. When I had my son in 2014 I borrowed the Ergobaby. My son and I loved it! I primarily used this instead of a pram when my son was in his first year. It made getting out and about alot easier as he loved being carried. It was especially fantastic when doing grocery's… Read more · 1
when you can't push a trolley and a pram at the same time! I used the ergobaby up until my son was nearly 2 then purchased a onbu carrier.
The ergobaby is very easy to get on by yourself (I mainly front carried in this) and used to wear him for hours at a time and never got uncomfortable.
I have now given the Ergobaby back to my SIL who has just had another bub, so now onto the 3rd bub and still going strong.
hurt baby's hips – I used this carrier with my first baby, and it went well, however I am ringing with bub #2 that it is hurting her hips. She is currently 6.5kg and 4 months. I am finding that I need to use the baby bjorn instead until she gets a bit bigger. A bit disappointing having to invest in 2 separate carriers.
Like it, but consider the durability and lack of pocket – After starting out with a Baba Sling, my newborn quickly stacked it on and at around 3 months old I needed a new carrier. My back was killing me as all the weight bearing for the sling was in my shoulders. So after asking around, many friends and family recommended the Ergo baby carrier with the advice of 'Go for the lightweight model so that bubs… Read more
doesn't get too hot!' So when I hit the shops, I went looking for the lightweight version. Unfortunately for me I went completely on the knowledge of the sales staff when they advised that the Sports was the only lightweight carrier (it isn't!) in the range. I'm kicking myself as now as the store assistants extent of knowledge on the Ergo baby carriers revolved around reading the side of the box (derr I can manage that myself!).
I managed with with infant insert with my small bub, which was cumbersome. As you need to lie your baby flat to safely place them into the insert. My baby felt quite secure once in there, but it was such a task to get them in there especially when you are transferring them from the car. When the additional padding of the infant insert was not longer required I used a rolled up towel under his backside to boost him higher in the carrier until her grew large enough to fit without it. I've happily used this carrier over the last 3 months as my son is now 6 months old. The weight bearing and comfort are all there for me. So why am I so disappointed?
The fabric quality is a complete let down. It attracts every tiny piece of dust and fluff to it and looks shabby within minutes of being out of the box. The waistband has pilling on the inside and the band itself has a small roll (i.e. Is no longer firm) in the foam, resulting in it looking out of shape. It's only been in use for 3 months!! I'd hardly call myself a heavy user either. I feel cheated not having a pocket too, that would be so handy. I sincerely doubt that it will see me through to a second child too, if it's showing such signs of wear at 3 months old. If I had my time over again I'd go for the more sturdy canvas models. The sports doesn't justify it's price tag and is very much inferior to the other carriers in the range. Breathable slit on babies back to avoid over heating. The fabric quality doesn't stand up to it and there is no pocket for bits and pieces.
Comfy and cozy – This carrier was the best suited for myself and our little one our bub seemed most comfortable in the ergo carrier and it was the easiest for myself to put on when it's only me Now that bub is bigger i wish it had a world view at the front but apart from that I preferred it over stoke and baby Bjorne Comfy easy to use Bubs looked most comfortable Very long straps Show reply
Love this carrier! – Bought this carrier with the infant insert when bub was 6 weeks old. Whilst I didn't love the insert (wasn't always sure she was positioned right) she loved it immediately and was the only way I could get her to sleep sometimes. It did not place any strain on my back & I'm only little & she is a big bub so I was very happy with this fact. … Read more · 1
Honestly, using this I didn't need the pram for the first 6 months especially because we live inner city so you don't have to worry about stairs or escalators like you do with a pram. Now at 12 month old we still comfortably use it. Just about everything! It is expensive & wasn't confident with the infant insert.
Love it! Can't live without it! – We had a baby bjorn original. I would wear our baby everyday while she naps & I get house work done. The baby bjorn was really hurting my neck, shoulders & back & I had to stop using it. I rely on a baby carrier or I would get nothing done around the house. I researched on the Internet different carriers. We needed something that would fit both my… Read more · 1
partner & myself & decided on the ergo baby sport. I'm so happy we did! We love it! It's so comfortable & my daughter seems to be a lot more comfortable also. She's asleep within minutes of putting her in & I'm free to do what I need to. We started using when she was 4 mths now she's nearly 7 mths & we're both just as comfortable with it. Could not live without it! So comfortable for mum, dad & bub!
Disappointed as heard so many good things about it – Purchased the Ergo from Toys R Us and regret buying it as the carrier is uncomfortable. I was told later that I should have purchased the original but no one at the store could offer any advise nor does the packaging specify that the Sport is suited for larger people. In addition, the infant insert is horrid, my baby screamed each time she was… Read more
put in it and only tolerated the carrier without the insert. Waste of money, now buying a Beco Butterfly, as baby loves back carry, and prefer something more secure when back carrying. Nothing Everything
Love it! – After reading these reviews and with my pre-existing back and neck problems I did sooo much research about not only my issues but the issues that other carriers can cause your baby. I have seen heaps of Baby Bjorns around and am always horrified at these little babies that are not able to look into their mother's eyes and have their little legs… Read more
dangling everywhere (can't be good!!!) The Ergo is excellent for this as the baby snuggles nice and tight into your chest and belly with their legs positioned very comfortably (not dangling). I also have the new born insert but since my Son was on the bigger side I used it without the pillow part and had no issues. My Husband uses it now mostly as he loves carrying our son and we take it everywhere. I find it hilarious when we go to a show or shopping that there are always parents walking with prams but the kids are never in them as they always want to be held. Our son always falls asleep when he is being carried and he loves it - he has never complained once. It can be a little fiddly to get one by yourself but after a couple of practises you get it down pat. I love this and I have never looked back!!!! Great Colour Range and ergonomic design is brilliant for shoulder and neck issues Can be a little fiddly to put on but they can be overcome
Keeps baby close – I live in Darwin so I bought this carrier as I thought it would be cooler in tropical climates. This absolutely proved to be true - I can't imagine there would be a cooler carrier out there. I used it to walk around Kakadu in summer when my baby was around 4 months, and it was fine. Except for where your bellies touch you don't feel the heat at… Read more
all. The newborn insert was too fiddly and hot though, so I waited until he didn't need it.
My baby is 1 now, around 9.5kg, and I still choose the Ergo most times over a pram. I love having him near me, and he loves being carried. When he was smaller he would sleep in it. I'm a total weakling, I can't even carry a large shopping bag, but the Ergo distributes the weight over your hips and shoulders so you barely notice it, unless of course you carry for long periods of time which isn't recommended anyway. I haven't tried other carriers, but with performance like this why would you? Cool, lightweight, adjustable, comfy, washable, inexpensive Newborn insert.
A household essential!! – The most wonderful carrier from newborn (with a purchased insert or rolled towel) til whenever you personally can't carry them anymore. It is so much easier to explore places and venues you can't with a pram. My husband loves using it too which is even more of a bonus. I get quiet time while they go for a wander in the yard. The ease of use. Durability. Holds value if you wish to resell
Good choice for bad backs – I have a lower back injury, and bought this carrier based on reviews that it didn't strain your back. I've found it very useful in the early days (i'd never noticed how many shops aren't pram friendly!), plus walking the dogs was much easier when I had free hands. My bub is now 15mo & it strains my back when she's in the carrier on my front,… Read more
however I really struggle to get her in so the carrier can be on my back. I'd never attempt it without having some help! It's also a bit fiddley if you want to take them in and out . Bub also gets frustrated not being able to see anything front-facing & wants out after 5 mins. Therefore I rarely use it anymore.... Doesn't strain my bad back, bub is supported & comfy really fiddley - not the quick, easy solution i was expecting it to be.

Good – This carrier is a great option but I would recommend getting it from birth if you are wanting to use this carrier as your baby will be likely to favour the first carrier that they get used to. This carrier is so easy on your back. I don’t believe there is another carrier (other than the Ergo standard of course) on the market that holds the baby’s… Read more
weight on the hips like this one does, so it is the only option for those with bad backs.
The longer straps and hip circumference are great for my feminine, childbearing hips. There is no colour choice for the Sport like there is for the Ergo standard.
The sport also does not have the small pocket that the standard has that is great when you only need to be travelling with a few things.
Your baby can not face forward and view the world which is my baby's favourite position in his Baby Bjorn, and in the ergo he is always straining to look forward and then he just ends up sucking on the arm straps when they get in his way.
After using the Bjorn until, my back could not handle it anymore, my baby at 6 months old is not adjusting to the Ergo all that well. He prefers his pram to the Ergo which is hard on me because I believe in carrying him over pushing him and the ergo is so easy on my back.
The connecting cords for the straps that come under the arm rub under my arm. The connection clip that holds the arm straps together should have been made lower to avoid this.

Every parent should have an Ergo carrier – I love my Ergo. I bought it when my first child was about 8 months old and wished I had bought it earlier. It was so easy to carry him everywhere in the Ergo. With my second child I tried to use it with the newborn insert, which was ok but I found a simple pouch easier with a newborn. However, we have used our stroller maybe twice with the second… Read more
child, she gets carried everywhere.
The Sport carrier is supposed to be cooler in summer or during activity (hiking etc) than the original Ergo carriers, however when you have a baby strapped to you, you're going to get hot on a hot day, there's really no easy solution to that.
My husband carries our baby all the time. That's a great feature of the Sport design is that it's completely gender neutral so no excuses for men not to share the load.
The best thing about Ergo carriers are the weight distribution takes the pressure off your shoulders and back and puts it on your hips, so you can carry your baby or toddler for hours.
I'm a size 8 and I did find that I was really too small to tighten the straps sufficiently to carry a tiny newborn. A friend once borrowed my Ergo and she is very tall and larger in size than I am, and her baby was huge, she just couldn't get the Ergo to sit comfortably at all. I believe larger people can buy extension straps, but for petite people there's nothing you can do but wait until your child fills it out. easy to use, comfortable, attractive, value for money a bit big for small people
Great asset for parents! – I used the ergo quite often when my daughter was a newborn – sometimes at the shops, sometimes at home when I wanted to get things done but she wanted to be held, and sometimes when she really needed to sleep but just wouldn’t go down on her own! I also found it helpful as we had major breastfeeding difficulties, so carrying her around gave us… Read more
good close physical bonding time in those early weeks. It was ‘masculine’ enough for my husband to use too! He is 6 ft and I am just over 5 ft, and it fit both of us.
When she was a newborn I used the Infant Heart 2 Heart Insert. She was a small baby so we really needed this. When she was a couple of months old I stopped using the whole insert but just used the bottom of the insert for her to sit on inside the carrier, as she was strong enough to hold her head up but not tall enough to have her head out the top of the carrier. Once we stopped needing the insert, it became a lot more convenient to put on! As an older baby I’ve put her on my back as well as on my hip. You can find instruction videos for these different carrying positions on YouTube.
The fabric is breathable and washable – I’ve put it in the washing machine a couple of times. Comfortable, suits newborn to toddler, multiple carry positions, made in sweatshop-free factories Can be fiddly to put on, can get hot in summer
My lifesaver...baby girl absolutely loves it – I purchased the Ergo when pregnant, after seeing reviews here and online elsewhere. Every morning my baby girl likes her "ergo" time which gives me peace of mind to have breakfast and other things handsfree. Really easy to assemble, perfect for when the pram is a pain, like if its raining and I just have to duck in somewhere - last week I visited… Read more
some friends with the ergo and a brolly. I also have the newborn insert and am looking forward to long use of the ergo for travel in a year, and at a music festival later this year. doesnt carry weight on my shoulders, easy to put on, soft fabric,
Best baby carrier I've ever had! – We bought this to replace our 'crotch dangler' type carrier and have been very impressed! It's super comfortable for parent & baby. Though can be a bit of a pain to get an older child in it on your back, it is comfortable when you do. Also have the infant insert so can use from birth! Great, comfortable Bit expensive, can be irritating to get on
Not for everyone – I used a Babybjorn up to 7 months, then swapped to the ERGObaby based on so many positive reviews. As a previous reviewer stated, very expensive mistake for us. I found it more difficult to use than the babybjorn and my baby just can't seem to get comfortable in it. I've followed the instructions exactly and tried all of the positions, but no… Read more

Since my son was born I have used it a number of times and it is so comfortable to use. We take it out grocery shopping and when we go to places where the stroller would be too bulky to use (such as festivals) It took me a while to figure out the best way to position him using the infant insert but I think I have the hang of it now (plus I think it helps that his head control is getting better too). My son is now 2 months old and seems to be comfortable in it too - he usually falls asleep within a few minutes.
I bought the sport version of the Ergo because I was having a summer baby and it is supposed to be more breathable than the original, however on really hot days I find that it gets both baby and me too hot to be able to use. Being from Victoria this doesn't cause much of an issue though. Very very comfortable to use. Great to use in places where a stroller can't or would be too bulky. Too hot to use on really hot days. Baby can't face outwards (not an issue for us though)
Bad – For me, this was an expensive mistake. I had heard so many good things about the ergo baby carrier, and my daughter loves to be carried - but not in this carrier. The sport in definately larger in size, to fit around a post baby bump (or for your partner) and the material feels nice. Very light and simple to use on the front. The material is… Read more
soft and the sport is a more versitile size (to assist until you lose a little baby weight...) Unfortunately, my baby was used to the baby bjorn and simply did not want to be in the ergo. She hated being on my back down so low (loves being in my hiking back pack - up high, so she can see more) and I struggled to get her on there.

Useful for newborns right through to small toddlers – Looking for a baby carrier which was suitable for a small toddler for short bush walks whilst on holidays interstate, the ERGObaby Sport fitted our needs. practical for outdoor use. Its cotton construction meant it would breathe in the tropics. Suitable for front-of-body use with newborns (with insert) through to carry-on-your-back with toddlers. I wished I had bought this much earlier as I didn't have a lot of success with the Baby Bjorn carrier and think this would have been better for me. It is the larger sized version, which is fine if you're a bigger frame, but as a skinny person, I have to adjust it to almost its smallest position to fit me.
Baby loves it! – Bought it before baby was born, thinking we'd use this and a stroller and bypass a pram. Took a bit to get used to loading the baby (with newborn insert) into the carrier and fastening it, but now seems pretty easy. Distributes weight over hips rather than on shoulders, so comfortable to wear for both me and my partner. Most important, our baby is… Read more
happy in it, and will sleep for a couple of hours in this while out, whereas wakes up usually after 30 minutes sleep in the stroller. Also useful when he wouldn't settle in the cot in the early days. Have taken him bushwalking in it, and comfortable to wear this on front and daypack on back, with weight balanced. Comfortable. Baby likes it. Very hot and sweaty for both of us on a hot day (probably true of any carrier)

in love with my ergo – Love love love the ergo. The hip straps make sure weight is well-distributed, so no shoulder or back pain, as I had experienced with other carriers. The ergo is also super adaptable, from newborn in front, to toddler on hip and my preschooler on my back; the ergo has been working for us for years. I would recommend this product (and do!) to any parent. adaptable, comfortable, practical, easy to use
Excellent – If there was only one product I was allowed to buy for baby, this would be it. Nothing else will soothe my little one like the Ergobaby does - pram and car seat make him cry as if his leg is being amputated. I can put him in the Ergobaby and carry him around for hours on end, and he just falls straight to sleep. I always bring it even if we're… Read more
using the pram. Invariably we end up using the Ergobaby at some time in the journey when he gets upset.
The sport version is a cotton fabric which is nice and cool for summer. It has an elasticated head support which we always use to keep the head from lolling back.
We bought the infant insert but only use the bum pad which raises baby up about 12 cm higher and is very comfortable. The head support was a bit too bouncy for newborn so I had to hold one hand against the back of his head, but this wasn't a problem. Stuffing a nappy behind his head was also helpful, and a good place to keep a spare nappy ;-)
I had a C-section but could use this for short periods of time from about 3 weeks. I love the Ergobaby, and can't recommend it highly enough! Comfortable to use, doesn't strain the back (all the weight is in the hips), both my husband and I can use it, easily adjustable, cotton is good for hot weather, useable from newborn (with additional insert). Cheaper than top-of-the-range Baby Bjorn, more versatile (can be worn on the back), and will last much longer as it takes a greater weight Optional infant insert was waaaaaay too hot for summer! Head support could be less elasticated so young infants heads are better supported
Look no further - this is the best carrier – Easy to use and with the infant insert, our newborn was very comfortable. Weight is carried on the hips not shoulders, which allows to carrying baby for long periods without tiring. Comfortable for baby and me, very easy to use Baby can only face inwards; the infant insert is very warm in summer - neither is a major problem on the whole
Excellent – I love my ergo sport, it traded in 3 other carrier for it and only now have the ergo and a sleepy wrap. It has reduced my neck pain from other carriers and I can wear it for much much longer. Very much worth the money! Can carry baby on hip, back or front facing in. It carries the wait from the hips, not the neck. Its super comfortable and soft… Read more
for baby and wearer. Has a newborn insert so you can carry straight away. Its fits a bigger person, unlike the other ergo types which need an extra strap. It carries up to 18kg! It also claims to be better for baby's hips, which is important if you have a baby who has hip concerns. I find it a bit difficult to put my son in it on my back, but other then that none!
Excellent – Love it. Absolute life saver. We travel interstate often, so we've been able to get away with not taking a pram a few times. It was great when he was little for him to snooze it. Also great for shopping as you dont have to push around a pram. My only regret is not getting it sooner and wasting money on other carriers - though I can say from… Read more
everything else I tried this is the best thing I've ever used for him. LOVE IT. I had a bjorn synergy, which my baby boy 'outgrew' around 5 months old as he was 8 kilos and it was too hard to carry him, but he loved being carried so much. I went through a variety of wraps and slings until I found the ergo and I love it to pieces. He'd 19 months and 14 kilos and I carry him on my front for maybe an hour or so, otherwise I could carry him on my back all day, its as comfortable as a regular back pack. It only comes in black. Also I like the hoody on the original ergo better, as I find the hood is way to small for my boy, so when he falls asleep on my back I cant really get the hood over his head so his head bobbles around. THAT said, his head circumference is literally off the chart (growth charts in health record that is) so, maybe its not a comment issue. Also, sometimes it would be nice to have him forward facing like the bjorn.
Excellent – This is a wonderful baby carrier. I bought it because I find the Baby Bjorn so uncomfortable, but have had no back/shoulder pain at all with the Ergo. Somehow it feels as if almost all of baby's weight is on my hips, with hardly any weight pulling down on my shoulders. If I didn't have trouble with my knees I would carry my baby in the Ergo all… Read more
the time and not use the pram at all! I hope we can master the back carry position as this will make the carrier really useful for hiking.
It did take our baby some time to get used to the Ergo after being in the Baby Bjorn, but now she's quite happy in either carrier. She can turn her head to see things so its not really a problem that she can't face outwards in the Ergo. Comfortable and ergonomically correct for baby. Most of the weight goes onto your hips rather than your shoulders, so its very easy on the back and shoulders (unlike most other carriers). 3 different carrying positions (front, back and hip). Lightweight, easy to wash and dry. Cool for summer. Only available in black. One of the clips from the hood fell off at some point and we never found it again. Baby can't face outward. Difficult to get baby into the carrier in the back carry position (we haven't mastered it yet!).
Excellent – I can't fault this carrier yet. I would have liked the option to carry my baby facing away from my body but I have heard this isn't the best for their development. I love how the carrier can be used from the time that they're a newborn up until 18kgs with the option of front, side or back carrying. It comes in a small carrycase which makes it easy… Read more
to just pop in the car or nappy bag. The material seems to breathe easy and I find that I don't get very sweaty or hot at all. Very versatile (can use for my newborn as well as my 2.5 year old). The material is very soft against my baby's skin, if it gets a dirty mark on it I just use a baby wipe to give it a quick clean but I know it's also machine washable. It is a little hard to do up the clip across the back. I haven't had the carrier very long though, so I am guessing I will learn how to use it more efficiently.
Good – This is easily the best investment I have made in baby gear to date. I decided to purchase it after being sick of the tantrums my son had after more than half an hour in the stroller and also because it was too… Read more
scary trying to put the stroller on the train by myself - I didn't even want to attempt the bus! My 4 month old son LOVES the Ergo Baby Sports - probably due to being close to me and being up higher to see the world. I prefer it because it feels safer and even though I live in hot Queensland, I haven't been finding it too hot for both of us to wear. 'How do you protect baby from the elements?' I hear you ask. Well, I bought a large golf umbrella which keeps us both undercover and protected from the sun and the rain. All in all I think this product really does live up to the hype, and I am delighted with the freedom it seems to have given us. I would recommend this product to anyone. Beautiful soft, breatheable fabric. Comfortable shoulder pads and even, ergonomic distribution of weight. The elasticised safety features on the buckles. The fact that is better for baby's spine and hips than the Baby Bjorn style carriers (apparently). Three different child positions. Last but not least the life span of the product - can be used from newborn (with insert available at extra cost) up to 3 years. Others would disagree but I find this carrier very easy to put on. Unfortunately there is no pocket on this model to put things like keys/mobile etc - the only reason I am not giving this 5 stars. Dust/fluff clings to fabric, but I don't have a big problem with this. Probably not quite as stylish as some of the other carriers on the market, but the functionality and comfort wins out over this as far as I am concerned.
Excellent – Would highly recommend it to anyone, tall or short. Great on long walks. Easy to put on and off. Bub loves it. Love everything about this.
