I really wanted to like this BBQ beacuase it looks modern and stylish, but it’s been a major letdown. The heat distribution is terrible, it cooks unevenly, with some areas way too hot while others barely heat up.You end up constantly shifting food around just to try and get things cooked properly, which takes the joy out of barbecuing. For the… Read more

price, I expected much better design and performance.

Definitely not what I’d recommend if you’re after reliable, even cooking. Disappointing experience overall.

Fireball Everdure 1 Boxing Day – We have an Everdure 1. Constant problems of tripping on ignition and on Boxing Day a fireball shot 2 metres out of the top of the bbq as it was igniting. NO idea how this could even be possible. Could have killed someone if they were standing over it. Hands-down the worst BBQ I have ever owned and the after-sales support is worse than non-existent. The grills don't fit the frame properly and there are a lot of cold spots on the grills. After 2 years, the centre grill has started to rust. After a lengthy search, I finally contacted the distributor and went to some obscure website to upload… Read more

images, only to be contacted to say that firstly, it's my fault that the coating has come off - it must be how I am cleaning the BBQ. Secondly, the 5 year warranty only covers the frame and none of the parts.

The distributor in Australia was arrogant, rude and unhelpful.

Buy literally anything else.

Worst BBQ that I have ever owned – This is without doubt the worst BBQ that I have ever owned, and I've had a few. The cover, that I bought from Everdure with the BBQ, has corroded to such an extent that the plastic lining has fused to the orange lid, and caused the paint to peel. Also, the plastic surround to the grill itself has started to bubble and deteriorate in places.… Read more

'Customer care' are not interested, despite the fact that the BBQ is three years old and supposedly has a 5 year warranty. Don't waste your money.

Trendy, versatile cooking appliance – My first impressions of my new Heston Blumenthal Furnace was the rather large size of the carton and once opened the almost fluorescent Orange Lid or cover. It sure stands out and makes a statement. hardware stores. I know it comes in other more subtle and for some, tasteful colours but I like orange. It makes a statement, draws attention and fits the reputation of its namesake Heston Blumenthal, another colourful personality. I knew I was in for a different experience. From my basic knowledge this is a version 2 model of the first version released some years back and although also stylish and similar in looks, the original did suffer from some quality control issues. Right from the get go this is a beast, has no quality issues regarding durability and ability whilst I used it and does an excellent job. As an Ambassador I welcomed the opportunity to test this item.

There is a requirement to put this item together and although the instruction book is helpful, I found it a little small in size for my liking. I like to put the instructions in 1 spot and just turn the page but the booklet was small which meant it had to be carried around. The pictures were in my opinion too small. First off, I split the box at each corner and let the sides fall to the floor and used the flattened-out box as the base for my work area. This was located in my living room as it was a very average day outside. Strangely this BBQ had to be partly de constructed to be fully constructed. My advice, especially for the men, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS and do it in order without shortcuts or bypasses. Take no deviations, arm you self with the right tools and allow about an hour at a fairly slow pace. That included a drink break. Most of it could be done by 1 person with only lifting required by 2 adults. The top part is heavy due to the cooking plates but the frame/stand is light and when completed although it has a big footprint it is very well balanced and easy to move around. It has two swivel wheels on one end to help with this. I was not able to use the Gas Bottle Bag as it strangely did not fit my 9kg bottle. I don’t think the bag is of much benefit for anything other than cosmetic reasons. I found that the screws have very fine threads so make sure time is taken so as not to cross thread. I used manual tools not power screwdrivers. I noticed the underside of the plastic fittings incorporated into the stand at each corner did pop out and had to be tapped in but once upright these fittings are out of sight. Please note that this item also has the new Australian Standard Gas Fitting and is not compatible with the old bottles. Having said that the new connections are backward compatible for older equipment. Finally, I noticed that the lid was on top of the packing carton and there was a slight blemish on my orange top where it had possibly rubbed. Not a big issue and I really had to look hard to first see it but when you are paying over $1000 for a top-notch appliance that may be annoying to some. This item I feel needs to be undercover as I think the plastic frame, brushed aluminum on the legs and flat finish on the deck would probably fade quickly and would look second hand. At a minimum it should have a cover when not in use to protect that bright orange lid and plastic stand. This appliance also stands at what I would consider the perfect height. I have a dreadful back but this BBQ forces me to stand upright and not have to lean down. I am 182cm in height and for me the cooking height is ideal. I also like the idea of the bottom storage tray but miss a closed in storage area but that would detract from its fashionable appearance.

This appliance comes with 1 flat plate and 2 grill plates and has a very large cooking area easily suitable for large functions. The lid feels a little low but it covered chickens, roasts, and cakes with ease and I had the items on a raised surface to eliminate burning. The lid was self-supporting so did not slam down or fall backwards which I really liked as it feels heavy and is good quality. Under each plate there is a separate looped burner and under that an oil catching tray. On the right side there are stylish control knobs and a drop down side on the left. The drop down side is too small and can barely hold a normal dinner plate in width. Ok for BBQ tools and a drink only. I was a just a little worried about the gas lines and ignition lines exposed under the control knobs as they were the perfect height for little hands to grab hold of. I did notice that they did not get too hot but they are easy to access.

This BBQ heats up very fast and according to the temperature gauge it reached maximum temperature in about 10 minutes with the lid down. It shows 350 degrees Celsius! That was impressive and yep it puts out a LOT of heat. My Son is a Chef and he says the plates get as hot as anything he cooks on in a commercial kitchen. In fact, I rarely used all 3 plates as it got too hot at times and even 1 plate got up to 220 Degrees inside with the lid down so I found it may not be perfect for slow cooking unless the lid is propped open a little. Once the lid is up the heat drops away very fast but it regains the heat just as fast. It took me a while to adjust my settings to find the ideal heat level but as you will see from my pictures it cooked everything just perfect. It even had great score marks on my steak which it cooked to perfection. I cook medium rare mostly and the job was done in minutes and looked great. It cooked a leg of lamb to absolute perfection and at the same time on the other plate it cooked roast potatoes in a foil tray on a small trivet. I could not fault that meal and it was all down to the cooking temperatures. Things like sausages, mince, burgers were perfect and I only used 1 flat plate and 1 grill plate and left the other grill plate as a warming area albeit with the direct heat being off due to radiant heat from the rest of the BBQ. I saw this as a cost saver as well. We even cooked a Malaysian curry with rice on the grill in a frying pan and it turned out great. I think one of the grill plates could be substituted with a purpose made cooking trivet or even have it as an optional extra as I can see myself doing other similar dishes in a fry pan or saucepan. I have also cooked a cake or two, and egg and bacon pie in it but this can be tricky with heat control but it came out fine. I know its primary function is to not bake cakes and puddings but it is so versatile it can be achieved. My next project will be to attempt souffles. My only issue is for doing this type of cooking you need a viewing window similar to ovens as lifting the lid even for seconds result in a dramatic loss of heat. I have also cooked items like fried eggs direct onto the hotplate and they came out fine. Despite avoiding using metal items on the hotplates though I have noticed that its unavoidable to cause scratching and I think these plate surfaces will end up like every other BBQ. I will keep them seasoned and they will be fine. The hot plate material is of a high quality and I believe will stand the test of time. I have gone through the process of cleaning and found the cross-cut style of the grill plates a little annoying but when cooking it makes little difference to me. Something I could easily work around. The oil catch tray is easily accessible. I did find that the hot plates are not as hot at the rear of the appliance as they are at the front and so some unevenness is noticeable when cooking but I have used this to my advantage and pushed some items to the back to prevent overcooking.

If, like me, you choose to use a cake rack(trivet) to raise the food this works with excellent effect. But it does raise the overall level closer to the lid. Using this to cook my roast lamb and potatoes was perfect as it was when cooking a cake to prevent burning the bottom. As this BBQ is slightly different in design and cooking styles especially due to the high temperatures and its ability to be more versatile in using different cooking styles, I think it needs to come with a recipe book along with cooking tips regarding the control of heat settings. The owner of this BBQ with a cost well north of $1000 deserves some help and suggestions and would be only a small extra cost to the bottom line. Perhaps a Heston Blumenthal oriented book would be advantageous. Using the internet is not always suitable when cooking outside over a hot BBQ. Some people just prefer a book for reference. I also think it should come standard with a cover and as an optional extra on purchase it should come with a cooking trivet as a substitute for the far-right grill plate. Should this happen, it could be a complete substitute for a kitchen range and oven. I also own a Weber Q and like them this BBQ needs practice to perfect specialised cooking but for everyday snags, mince patties etc. It’s a no brainer for cooking as long as you keep the heat at an acceptable level. Again, a window in the cover would be advantageous unfortunately that would come at the cost of appearance. This is not a small BBQ and I think, although it has very high-quality wheels for moving its best left in one area. I would be happy to forego the gas bottle cover. Ergonomically everything is user friendly and in the correct place. The control knobs do take up a lot of space on the right, they don’t get hot at all, the bottom tray is great for temporary lightweight storage and the lid handle is large, easy to grip especially for arthritic hands and always stays cool to touch. The Appliance has been fitted with quality user friendly fittings. This appliance looks great, and does an excellent job and with some minor tweaks would be ideal for trying to cook what normally is achieved in a home kitchen. Like a Weber it takes practice but it does it better. It definitely gets much hotter is more versatile, and despite the price, I think it will last many years if it’s under cover and kept clean and maintained. It’s the perfect BBQ for small family use and also for very large gatherings. I tried hard to create a failure when cooking but it was too easy to get it right every time. My last effort was a pork roast which was a great success and produced perfect crackling. This BBQ is certainly a keeper and if you are able to afford the extra cost compared to cheaper products, I would highly recommend it. It just does it better. It feels like it will last many years and with care should retain its unique appearance. I have posted a number of photos of my cooking results and I am just your average home cooker so this BBQ certainly makes my cooking efforts look far better than what I normally produce. The fact that it works under such great temperature variations makes it a very versatile performer. I highly recommend this product.

Blistering heat in a good looking package – I quite like this barbecue. I have a fair few Heston branded products already, baking scales, digital thermometers etc. All have been good quality so I was keen to give this unit a go. An admission up front – our house doesn’t eat much meat. My house is mostly vegetarian and I’m the only one who cooks – by sheer accident my diet, and my… Read more

children’s, are not very heavy on the meat side of things. But we still grill and barbecue a fair bit – salmon, veggies, pizzas and your usual breakfast fair. The upfront and blatant feature on this machine is the heat. This thing cranks out blistering heat and reaches temps in no time at all. And this suits us really well – we want the BBQ to char our veggies and give them flavour and crust and this certainly did the trick.

Besides the Furnace I have a standard four-burner jumbuck grill. I used to have a Weber Baby-Q and I admit now how much I missed the gas-ring configuration of the Weber and how much I love the improvement on that design in the Furnace. The three ring set-up gives more consistency across the plates than my straight line four burner. There’s still hot and less-hot spots which you kind of need if you’re doing steaks (which is a rare treat for me) but way less moving things around. Heat control is granular and when I shut the lid it was easy to keep it within a temp range and no need to surf the temp curve once it was preheated. It does include a flat-plate in the setup, despite what some reviews said on other sites, but you will need to buy a cover for it.

Another thing I really like – it unhooks from the trolley so you can pop in the back of the truck or 4WD, or prop it up on a table for cooking. Something I absolutely LOVED about the baby-Q done even better in this form factor with the leg setup. It’s not portable by any stretch but the times I want to take it off the trolley it’s a really handy feature.

The unit looks great. Exterior is easy to keep clean but not easy to clean under the grates. And because it can run so hot things like seasonings and marinades don’t really drain down to the catch but instead carbonises on the interior shell soon after falling. I’m also worried about the finish in general, it took a few dings and scratches in the set-up – I probably wouldn’t care so much except it just is a good looking thing to start with. It is lacking in side space for propping things while cooking and it’s somewhat awkward using the fold-down side as the handle to lift and manoeuvre around on wheels.

The highlights have been - Jerk Eggplant – heavily seasoned eggplant quarters grilled/baked over moderately high heat for half an hour. The grill contact, smoke and convection-ish heat circulation just stomps on a conventional oven for this. They came out with almost a bit of a bark on them with the jerk seasoning. First time I did it I absolutely incinerated them before toning the heat back to more reasonable level. Instant read remote thermometers are your friends. - Pizza. I use a pizza steel and a cast iron pan for pizza, both worked well. I much prefer the Furnace over our indoor pizza oven. Being able to hit that 300+ degree temps in particular lets you turn out nice pizzas on the steel in 6-8 minutes. The whole convection effect works great too, dough is springy and chewy and the outside and base crisped nicely. - Grilled Chinese long beans. Look on youtube for the recipe. Just do it. They were charred and tender in an absolute flash. I think I put a photo of the end result on here. - Steak – I snuck a porterhouse on it at one stage. I’d cooked it in the sous-vide and just used the Furnace to put a crust on it. It absolutely did that – better and cleaner than using the cast iron pan on stovetop.

Before I mostly went vegetarian I was big on meat and steaks from the barbecue. Steaks are gonna be excellent on this - the only thing I’d be concerned about is low-and slow stuff. I wasn’t really able to get to stay at a reasonably low temp so that might be a consideration. I could get it to hover 140 degrees with a single burner going. I don’t think that’s a huge trade off – if low and slow is what you’re after there’s other parts of this range that can do that. Or just do the hybrid oven/grill methods so the oven can handle the long controlled temp parts of the equation and the heat-monster can deliver the bark and sear.

Overall quite happy with the unit. You compromise on some optional stuff in other gas barbecues (no side burner, limited trivet space) but make up for in ridiculous heat, granular control and really good looks to be frank.

This is, without a doubt, the worst BBQ I have ever owned – I have had the Furnace for about 4 years now, purchasing it not long before COVID hit, I purchased based on a demo I had seen at my local HN and that I liked the design of it. So yes, while it looks good, it's cooking performance is atrocious, despite being a resonable size, it's really only half that as the other parts don't get hot enough to… Read more

cook on, so plan on using on the back half of the middle grill and the middle inner sides of the outer grills.

If you want to cook one steak, and you get it right in the good spot, it does a fantastic job... although if that steak is too large, you'll find one half burning while the other is barely seared, and forget the front half of the BBQ - you can end up with raw food if you try to cook here.

Other than cooking in small batches, any other cooking experience will just leave you frustrated as you keep constantly rearranging food into the hot spots so that everything is cooked.

And cleaning? Thanks to the curved lower half and burner design, cleaning is near impossible, not to mention on the upper surfaces, the writing is wearing off and the enamel in the hood has bubbled.

Let's not forget grill plates that barely sit in place and will often fall in if you try to scrape them the wrong way, and that there is no lip around the edge so things like sausages can roll right off the edge, meaning even if it heated all the way to the edges, you couldn't cook the edges anyway.

It's been on a covered deck it's whole life, so it at least hasn't weathered.

We have a large undercover area and used to use our last BBQ (A cheap Bunnings model) all the time, and despite it's short comings, at least we could use it for entertaining, whereas now, I tend to avoid BBQ'ing and just cook everything in the kitchen.

All in all, if I was in a position to replace this BBQ right now it would be out the door, but unfortunately, for now, I am stuck with this. If I could get a refund on this, I would take it and run.

Absolutely High Quality Design – The Furnace replaced our 12 year old BBQ and the difference (even when our old BBQ was new) is like chalk and cheese! We love it. Construction of the Furnace was a breeze - the high quality design and materials is apparent. It probably could have been built without the instructions. The instructions themselves were fairly good, and everything… Read more

slotted together perfectly. The high quality of all materials and the very good design meant that you just couldn't get it wrong. ** My husband wants to stress here - it is one of the highest quality designs he has seen. Excellent components.

Asthetically, it's a great looking design - we received the cream colour and it blends in on our patio beautifully. It is fairly compact but still provides a lot of grill space. We are impressed at how much we can fit on those plates!

It is easy to move around - sturdy design of the legs and decent quality castors mean I can move it myself if I need to. It is not so heavy as to be unweildy.

We've cooked a range of meals since receiving it, from sausages to chops, roasts to pancakes. We just love the speed at which it heats up (5 mins), and that the lid holds the heat impressively well.

We actually cooked our sunday roast (chicken and veggies) in there on a hot day, and had the disaster of my gas running out halfway through! It wasn't a drama though - it only took 5-10 mins to get the 'oven' back to heat, and dinner was barely late! When opening and closing the lid to check, we did loose the contained heat fast, but it's so well sealed it reheats quickly. The heat gauge seems very accurate. The flavour of the BBQ chook had our kids requesting that we cook it that way more often, and we probably will - it was so easy.

Pancakes turned out perfectly on the hotplate (but having two hotplates would have sped up the process - cooking for a family of five means triple batches of batter!) We did find there was a specific hot spot (middle, left on the hotplate) that cooked much faster than anywhere else, but once we had that figured out it was a breeze.

Simple meals are easy & quick - sausages or chops cook perfectly. Marinated chicken drumsticks or thighs came out perfectly. Asparagus and broccolini, pre-prepared in some olive oil and herbamere seasoning was delicious.

It's no different to any other BBQ in that you must learn where the hot and cold spots are, and learn how to work with them. We we're initially a little perplexed, as our old BBQ allowed us to see the flame size and we adjusted it accordingly. The Furnace doesn't appear to visibly change the flame from high to low - though the temperature definitely changes!

PROS: - Excellent design and quality - easy to construct. - Aesthetically appealing. - Functional and well thought out design. - Everything we've cooked on it thus far has been cooked perfectly. - Excellent for roasting. - Grills and plates are excellent quality and clean easily. - Fittings etc are all very high quality - it's definitely not going to rust out like a cheaper BBQ tends to do.

CONS: - Heat distribution means it doesn't cook perfectly evenly - however this is a particular gripe we have about ALL BBQs - we have yet to discover the mythical beast that can cook evenly on all plates, but alas the Furnace is not it. (In saying that, the Furnace is as good as we've found in this respect) - I'd love to see a combination of plates provided (or available) - having two hotplates and two grill plates would give the user a lot more flexibility. - I'd love to see more space either side to fit platters etc, but that is clearly a design trade off for grill space & compactness.

Finally, perfect grilling! – A superbly designed BBQ with a few minor criticisms or shortcomings, but overall a great experience, with great results! A very welcome addition to our cooking arsenal. With the proliferation of Sous Vide (constant temperature water bath under vacuum) cookers into everyday life for the masses, the days of cooking meat until it is a thoroughly… Read more

cooked through, brown and tough to chew meal, are a thing of the past. But while Sous Vide will allow you to cook any steak to a perfect level of "doneness", the result can be very bland on its own as is, so the art of grilling and caramelisation have taken on even more importance to impart that very necessary grilled flavour and texture to perfect the steak.

The issue with Sous Vide then is in order to not dry the steak out further, you need to very quickly hit each side with a grill at the highest temperature possible to caramelise and sear the outside, sealing in the flavours.

This is especially important when doing an extremely lean meat like kangaroo, which is a popular meat here in OZ due to the leanness and pure protein, but in my opinion is also the easiest meat to ruin by cooking it wrong. The difference between a perfect kangaroo steak and a very tough one can be down to mere seconds. Generally these sorts of high and sustained temps are unobtainable with most electric BBQ's or hotplates, as they'll simply idle/cycle at a set temp which is usually not high enough to very quickly sear the outside without prolonged exposure drying the steak out, or in the case of kangaroo, making it like leather. Gas BBQ's generally allow you to reach higher temperatures but inefficiencies in the jet and hotplate design can mean the grilling temperatures can be less than optimal, so it can still take some time to properly caramelise the outside of the meat, adversely affecting the end quality and texture.

So I was very excited to hear about the new Everdure Furnace range, designed in conjunction with the famous cook Hestor Blumenthal, and at it's core is created specifically to help with reaching high temperatures fast to assist with quickly searing steaks, as well as being a general purpose BBQ.

First impressions: The carton the Everdure Furnace arrives in is huge, and it has a staggering amount of polystyrene foam to protect it. Luckily we have a recycling drop off station not too far, otherwise I'd probably use it to build a small shed with.

The instruction manual while reasonably full of detail, has somewhat poorly rendered exploded drawings I suspect will make assembly a bit of a pain for some. I've had experience assembling many things over the years, so looking at the orientation of parts in the drawing, and noting the number of the different sized fixings was enough to get it together without too much fuss or time required. I can easily imagine however that many people would quite rightly struggle to assemble it just going by the manual. I felt the assembly diagrams should have been blown out larger and clearer if you were to rely on using the pictures as a reference. Step 10 for attaching the LHS table and fittings is a good case in point.

Assembly went pretty quickly, the parts all fitted fine, which can be a surprise sometimes, usually you need to "finesse" some bolts or parts when assembling things, but not with this BBQ. The parts are all very nicely made, and of obvious good quality. The wheels especially are also good quality poly-urethane type swivel castors, not el-cheapo plastic wheels on a rod as with most BBQ's, which was a nice surprise.

The left hand side table is a brilliant idea, instead of simply making the entire trolley longer to provide shelf space at each end, the left side is spring pivoted, and can be very easily dropped out of the way, or slid into place in a few seconds. Very handy indeed, although we felt it would really benefit from being wider still as it's quite small.

The trolley is very nicely made, with a collection tray under the range, and gentle curves on the frame around the range area, so there are no sharp corners to collect waste, or oil and food build up, which would thus make it harder to keep clean. It also sports a generously large lower shelf, although to be honest we've usually found these shelves to be fairly useless in actual use, as they're so low down to be useful for anything of consequence, and you tend to have the utensils in use within hand reach on top anyway.

The top is a very substantial aluminium lid, and the thermometer with it's stainless steel bezel is a very nice touch. As is the bag designed for the gas cylinder, which while hardly necessary, is still very aesthetically pleasing to effectively cover up the gas cylinder.

The jets are of notably good construction, and the use of stainless steel flexible hosing for the gas lines (which in normal use would never be seen) is particularly nice and an indication of the overall quality of build they obviously went for with this BBQ.

The cast iron plates are quite heavy as they should be, and drop into place nicely with no visible movement or wobble in use.

The stainless steel knobs while very good quality, are also a really nice and very practical design, allowing a fine degree of control and easy piezo startup. They are the best design, and most useful knobs I've encountered on a BBQ to date. A nice feature is the connecting tube that will light any adjacent range if the flame blows out.

In general the BBQ is a very stylish, and somewhat imposing unit, with it's bulky looking appearance and sweeping curves. The colour schemes are also very nice and a little retro looking which I love.

In use:

The BBQ as described does heat up amazingly fast, and sears meat beautifully. The touted feature of the design of the plates to reduce flare up really does work extremely well, surprisingly well in fact. While brushing oils and marinades on food while cooking, we experienced the briefest bursts of flareup on only a few occasions. So the plate design does work very well, and in fact the extra mass would help maintain heat levels.

The searing results are really, really, good, we were able to sear the meats to a level that we liked while still leaving the steaks tender and juicy, effectively medium-rare. It did take a little longer than we expected to reach this level, but it's still by far the best result of any BBQ we've used prior. Although this is one of the main selling points so it very well should be able to do that well!

We also do a lot of vegies on the BBQ, and the combination of the grill and flat plates and fine temperature control allowed us to grill the vegies really nicely, and then maintain them on a low setting to cook a little further without over-cooking them, so the entire meal could be ready to serve together. Mushrooms of course were especially nice to grill, and then cook a little further in a butter and pepper sauce.

We found the overall cooking experience exceedingly good with this BBQ, and very surprisingly the outside frame remained at a low enough temperature to handle despite all three ranges on at their highest setting. The lid also allows greater experimentation and cooking options. We've now done salmon several times on the BBQ, and we found that cooking the salmon initially in a marinade wrapped in a sheet of foil, with the lid closed, and then lightly grilling it produced a perfectly cooked salmon that was succulent and juicy, and full of flavour with that exceptional grilled taste. Possibly the best salmon we've ever had and so trivial to make, doing veggies in a similar way also resulted in levels of deliciousness everyone loved.

Similarly steaks done on the grills are just superb, whether from scratch, or via the Sous Vide method, which is our general preference as it gives a very consistent result. Even the marinated t-bone steaks came out amazingly tender and juicy, everyone was more than pleased with the results.

The cooking plates we felt are a good size and will be more than adequate for most, we cooked a wide variety of veggies and steaks for 4-6 people with extras, and did it with ease. The controllability of the flames was superb, we didn't risk burning anything, and at no time did we have to "shuffle" food around because of cooking space issues. And as seen by the pics, some of the zucchinis and other vegies were quite large, but cooking space was never an issue. In fact, some of the steaks pictured were huge at around 450grams each, but there was still plenty of space to cook with all the vegies and mushrooms at the same time.

Comments and Criticisms:

As mentioned prior the left hand side table design is brilliant but would benefit from being a little wider. The knobs on the right hand side while beautiful quality and very nice aesthetically, could be re-arranged to create a bit extra space on the right hand side which would have been useful. But we get the effect the designers were wanting to achieve so this is a very minor criticism.

A larger criticism however of a feature that wasn't immediately apparent until we went to cleanup after use, was the pattern on the grill plates. Although a really great look, the chevron pattern really made cleanup much more of a pain than it should have been. It would have been far more practical to simply have the grills with a 45 degree pattern from side to side, not put two patterns at a 90 degree angle to each other to collect waste at the intersection and make cleaning difficult. The coating on the plates claim to make cleaning easier, and they certainly do, and while only time will tell how they hold up to long term use, we found it didn't take too much effort to clean them.

We also felt if the large bottom shelf was removable, this would greatly assist with cleaning the BBQ.

One slight negative for me is the manoeuvrability of the BBQ. The unit has very solid and obviously good quality swivel wheels at the right hand side that I'm sure would last many years without issue. The problem for me though is that to move the BBQ you need to grip and lift it from the left hand side, but as the left hand side tray is spring hinged and does not really lend itself to being lifted from this end, you then need to grip the edge of the BBQ from the left to move it around, which is a bit awkward to say the least.

If your BBQ lives in a a permanently fixed position this issue will never affect you, but if like me the BBQ stays under cover and is moved into an open area when in use, you'll find it's a bit awkward and cumbersome to move around easily. Swivel or even fixed wheels as an option for the left hand side would be far more useful, while not compromising the usability as they can be locked in position anyway. I'll be looking to try and buy another set of the wheel assembly to convert my BBQ to all wheels for this purpose.

As a consequence, I can see a lot of people struggling a bit to move the BBQ into position without just dragging it, as lifting it is a bit awkward. Having said that though, it's still far more manoeuvrable than other BBQ's we've had over the years.

Final Thoughts:

The minor criticisms above aside, we have to say we are absolutely loving using this BBQ, the design is exceptional, the size of the plates is really great, the temperature range and fast heat-up is superb, and so far the enamelled top hasn't discoloured in any way, and the handle seems to be holding up extremely well. Not sure it's exceptional enough to be worth the $1400 price tag, but the performance is exceptional, and for those who find a good BBQ is a way of life, I think it would be no-brainer to get one of these!

1 yr old and very happy with my 2 Burner Everdure – Purchased my 2 Burner in Dec 2020 from Harvey Norman online. We opted for the 2 burner as we dont often do big bbq grills tending to do a couple of steaks at a time or some tenderloins. However we did do quite a large family sized ham this year at Xmas and it was cooked through perefectly. We did go out and buy the Everdure cover for the bbq and… Read more ·  1

we also use a hot plate liner everytime. We find its easy to clean everything down after use. I can honestly say we have not had any issues with paint coming off or rusty plates and we live in Qld with humid weather. Highly recommend the Everdure 2 Burner.

So far, so good – Just took delivery of the 2 burner force. It took me a bit to assemble it but all you need is a phillips screwdriver so it's very doable. Everything looks very high quality. Fit and finish is wonderful. Easy to light and easy to turn off the gas at the cylinder. We tried it last night for the first time..cooked lambchops. They turned out… Read more

perfectly. And I mean perfectly. I love the cast iron grates as they heat evenly and really sear the meat.

Worst BBQ ever – We recently purchased the Everdure by Heston 3 burner BBQ on recommendation from Hervey Norman, this is the absolute worst BBQ I have ever used, the hot plates do not locate on any tabs and will fall into the base if you move the BBQ, there are large gaps between the plates that allow what you are cooking to fall off into the base and the temperature modulation is either roasting hot or off, I would not recommend this product to anyone. Show details

Worst BBQ I've Every Had – I've had the BBQ for about 3 years. I've had problems from the beginning including a faulty thermometer and ignitor problems. The BBQ ages very poorly....faded plastic shelves, discoloured hood cover, horrible rust from the drip tray, ignitors that take forever to light the burners. The grills don't sit properly. The grills are rusting apart… Read more

to the point where I have to warn people about the possibility of metal shards in their food....unbelievable. The solid bits on the grills that are supposed to stop flare ups (they don't) collect grease that is very difficult to get off. Unfortunately, new food you put on the grill picks the grease up and you get this black, greasy mess on everything. This BBQ was an unfortunate mistake.

Lengthily exhausting process, juts but a Webber and stay away from Everdure Heston. Waste of money and time. Such a shame. Worst BBQ ever bought – The design of the tabs under the plates do not help keep them stable. Plates fall on to the elements all the time, when cooking and when moving. Very frustrating. photos taken are of some sausages and you can see the oil being pooled up as the plate tabs don’t allow a level surface for it to fall back into the drain off. Causes terrible flare ups. So annoyed and divested with this product. The cleaning is also another issue very hard to do.

I had an email from the company stating I needed to move the plates so I did this with them falling into the bbq like I said the tabs do not match up. I have not heard from the company in almost a month now. Most terrible customer service an experience I have ever had. Would not recommend buying this bbq.

Amazing Cooking, Unfriendly Grill Plates – **Updated 29/3/25** After 2.5 years of ownership, almost everything has rusted. I've replaced the grill plates multiple times and they are not easily sourced (often out of stock). The lid is now hanging by a thread. It is gas hungry. Sadly, this product has not offered long-term value. **Original 11/22** My family barbecues several times a week… Read more

year-round and we’ve relied on a 2-burner Zeigler & Brown barbecue for more than a decade. For this review, we tested the Furnace 3-burner barbecue in matt orange.

It is a heavy beast in the box, requiring two men to move it. Assembly took longer than expected thanks to some of the plastic bits not fitting.

The product manual states the gas cylinder connection takes a POL fitting which is incorrect. It requires the newer LCC27 valve. If you have an older gas bottle with a POL fitting, it will not connect to the hose and regulator supplied with the barbecue.

Be aware that some of the marketing material on the Everdure website is for the first generation. I was told the displayed single-direction grill plates are from the first generation. The second generation has dual-direction grill plates.

What’s good? - Heats phenomenally well, getting to temperature quickly and heating evenly. - Returns to temperature quickly after opening and closing the lid. - We barbecued lamb, pork steaks, hamburgers, hotdogs, prawns, salmon, cauliflower, chicken thigh and pork mince. Excellent high-heat grill cooking, searing well. Excellent high-heat plate cooking though be aware that sauce can drop through to the firebox. Excellent medium-heat grill cooking using an aluminium pan. Excellent medium-heat plate cooking. - Cooks brilliantly using a cast iron skillet. High heat gets the pan hot then lower temps on all three burners maintain the perfect temperature. - Although the lid height is shorter than other barbecues, it was high enough to accommodate all we cooked including a whole head of cauliflower. - Heat control by modifying the use of the three burners is easy. - Easy enough to clean except for the dual-direction grill plates. - Huge cooking area and stands at an excellent height for taller users. - Looks stylish and is easy to move thanks to the wheels. The gas bottle cover is a nice touch.

What could be improved? - Bring back the single-direction grill plates. We really struggled with the dual-direction configuration as it is not user friendly for spatula use nor cleaning. The spatula hits the opposing grooves when it runs along to flip food. A single-directional grill allows for swift and easy cleaning unlike this one. - Provide more space for food platters at the side especially since it can be collapsed. - Some of the plastic body parts do not sit flush in the chassis. - More than one drip tray should be supplied at a RRP of $1299.

Conclusion If the grill plates were single directional, this would be a 5/5 barbecue. It comes to heat quickly, recovers temperature rapidly, cooks evenly, has a huge cooking surface and looks great. However, since grill-plate cooking makes up about 90% of how we barbecue, the dual-direction grills are a 2.5/5 for spatula use and cleaning. If you use tongs and the grills are not a concern, the Furnace is a great barbecue.

three grill plates vs the standard 2 grills and 1 flat iron grill would somehow help. It didn’t. Might also add, as others have mentioned, paint fades quickly and writing quickly fades/rubs off. I have given up trying to have anything rectified. I consider this a write-off. Just warning others to avoid the Heston grills.

Disappointed – I bought this BBQ around 18 months ago, and it was very expensive. Initially I was pleased with how it cooked a large piece of meat in the centre of the grill, however I have discovered since that the heating is uneven between burners and over the surface areas of individual grill plates when cooking smaller things like chicken thigh fillets. grill plates have fallen in onto the burners whilst moving large pieces of meat as the tiny supporting ridges are a poor design. There is some rust on the plates. Most annoyingly I find it extremely difficult to clean, which means I'm loathe to use it to be honest. Small bits of food, herbs/spices from marinades and a large portion of the debris and fat from cooking ends up burning onto the gas tubes, gas jets and bottom of the unit. There are sharp edges beneath many of the metal bits on which I have sliced my fingers attempting to clean. The central drip tray is tiny and a pain to remove. Despite being stored undercover on a verandah, the screws on the hinges and inside the body have rusted. Ignition is difficult recently and it took me 10 minutes to get all burners lit after several months of not using it.

spots. The worst part of this is how hard it is to clean. Heaps of tight spots and nooks and crannies which makes cleaning an absolute nightmare. When it’s working, you need to have multiple burners on to get any intensity of heat, wasting gas just to get a nice grill on a piece of steak. I’ll never buy one of these again and recommend you avoid as well. Awful!

How on earth are we supposed to clean the fat from the body – This product cost $1000 and I couldn’t be more disappointed. Who thought about what to do after cooking? The fat that doesn’t go into the drip tray lines the rest of the belly and is impossible to get to unless the burners are unscrewed dismantled then hopefully put together properly with wires to consider. Disappointed – Terrible heat distribution across all 3 burner plates delivering unevenly cooked meat. Paint started to flake not long after a year - this falls under the 2 year paint warranty but they said they will not fix, just to deal with it.
