Purchased the additional 3 yr warranty. The fridge has broken down just 4 months shy of the warranty running out. Yes that is a 5 year old fridge. This has been expected by Fisher & Paykel tech indicating leaking gas. This is a known fault and this fridges life expectancy is approximately 5 years. Buyers beware Show details
Leaking water filter/attatchment – Our fridge randomly started leaking water and a lot of it in or on or around the filter area mostly at night we replaced filter despite only being in for 3 months and we are on filtered rain water. It has happened every single night for the last week and I am now getting concerned about the damage in the pantry to walls and cabinets so we all so would be ok to join class action Show details
FaultCode20 Flapper Heater - Wire broken! The fridge beeps 20 times (exact) when opening the door for this fault, the code is also shown on the diagnostic display (see graphics how to read that one). What I did to repair: Remove the cover at the bottom of the flapper (1 screw), and you see a pair of wires going to the bottom end of the heater… Read more
built into the flapper. Turns you can pull down the heater - pulling it down just a little makes it much easier to disconnect the plug. Once disconnected, I measured resistance of heater as 38ohm. Odd, because other sources (including AI and youtube videos) suggest it should be 15ohm...
Next I remove the cover at the top of the left door - there you can unplug the connector, and access the wire going to the heater. A paper clip slides nicely into the end of the connector (both top and bottom end), and I was able to confirm that one of the wires has an open circuit with my multimeter. Pulling (hard) on that wire reveals where the wire is broken.
I removed the flapper (first remove the spring), and then you can see where the wire comes from: from behind the door seal (see photo). With the wire separated at the break, I pushed some heatshrink over one end, soldered them back together, and moved the heatshrink to cover it up. That fixed it! (fingers crossed this lasts the remaining life of the fridge)
Final comment to Fisher & Paykel: the flimsy thin/poor quality wire is pre-programmed to fail eventually, as it has to make the 90deg move of the flapper every time you open/close the left door.

Water leak from filter holder – This new F&P fridge was purchased from Harvey Normal in June 2020 and installed by my plumber. After two weeks I noticed water leaking into my kitchen cupboards. I called my plumber who re-made and checked the hose to mains connections. Again water leaked into my cupboards! To avoid damage to my new kitchen cupboards I chose to keep the water… Read more
turned off and use the fridge as a non-plumbed unit. This week (Jan 2024) I met my plumber on a different matter and together we decided to take one last look at the problem and then he noticed that the water leak was actually coming from the F&P water filter unit, not from any plumbing connections. This has been the fault from Day 1.............but course F&P just say "out of warranty". I cannot recommend F&P customer care, they just don't care.

Will be the last time I purchase a Fisher & Paykel – Purchased this product 22/12/2014 from the good guys for $2371. It wasn't my first preference. Electrolux had a visually identical model, but much better quality from the finish & the doors opening & closing, as the salesman agreed. However Electrolux didn't make them in the 600L+ capacity so I had to purchase this one. The fridge started to… Read more
sound an alarm everytime you open the doors. I spoke to a technician over the phone and he said that wiring on one of the doors has broken. He said it is very difficult to pull apart and repair, and had no intention of carrying it out. And further added that there is a long wait on parts currently. What I don't understand is that if there were severed wires in the french doors, why is the LED lighting on the doors still functional. If this wasn't enough another alarm has commenced on the fridge. Every 1 or 2 hours an alarm starts and the only way to shut it up is to open the door and mute the alarm from the electronic key pad within the fridge. Its the bottle chill function that's faulty. Technician couldn't resolve the problem over the phone. Its starting to get very noisy operating too. So for about 4 months we have been getting up to shut the alarm. Also the stainless steel finish scratches easily too. Before the alarms started, there is a long rectangular plastic back panel on the inside of the fridge that kept on popping out. Its underneath the Activesmart Technology writing. It was obviously a manufacturing fault. In the end I had to sticky tape it into place, from both sides. This occurred about 3 years ago. There is a little water build up happening as well. Definitely not worth the price tag. Since it's out of warranty, I don't believe its worth repairing & will purchase a Mitsubishi, perhaps the WX series. Mitsubishi are the best affordable fridges on the market. I have family friends who can swear by there quality. Not to mention the countless 5 star reviews present on this site. Their inverter compressors are of a high standard. Fisher & Paykel was acquired by some Chinese company, and is no longer a New Zealand brand. They weren't that good as a New Zealand brand anyway. In short, stick to Miele for washing machines, dishwashers and Mitsubishi for fridges.
Everyone has one – (see updates below at 18 months & 38 months) Overall F&P is the most reliable/best rated fridge in Australia, for a reason. and yes, everyone seems to get one of these huge luxury french door / water dispenser fridges when they renovate. big, easy access, excellent internal layout, great at ice production, and the filters easily last 1 year for… Read more
the water dispenser. Its very good also at the most important and basic of all functions: a steady keeping temperature so food stays fresh, and chilling full shopping load quickly. the freezer can be very cold. also the bottle alarm mostly means things dont explode/forgotten in the freezer any more. the door drawers are good and solid glass shelves... only thing thats flimsy is the rear liner for the crisper drawers (whcih you only discover when something spills int he back of the fridge) but its bendiness means its easy to get in/out without breaking. oh and we had a good experience with Harvey Norman installers, who knew it well, wiggled it down the hall and installed it well wihtout scratching the new floors. paid $2600 for the fridge, plus installation and 3 year extended warranty to bring it to $2899. EDIT#1. after 18 months of use: All is well. Still love the fridge. I changed the water filter at 14 months (instead of 12 as it took that long for flow to slow down significantly). Important to do and easier to change than expected. Important to properly purge repeatedly EXACTLY as per instructions in the manual or you get noisy gurgling in the water system if any bubbles are left. My other tip is buy 5-10 years worth of filters in advance. So you never need to think about it again. Fridge runs well and quietly. EDIT#2. issues developed in the next 18months. Service and support was very good, replacement fridge provided during works. While its inconvenient to get a breakdown, I am very stasfied with the outcome and would buy the fridge again. Well done F&P for your support of your high end products during their expected lifetime... ;-)
Great fridge but – This fridge cools well, dispenses cooled water well, makes great ice!......but 1. The 'black' stainless steel marks very easily and because of its texture is not as easy to clean as some surfaces. 2. The stainless steel dents very easily and they are very prominent. 3. The interior fridge has two drawers that are the width of the interior, and… Read more
each drawer has two insert compartments. To access one compartment, both fridge drawers mush be opened to pull out the single full width drawer. 4. The filter for the water dispenser is at the back of the fridge. To change this I have to pull the fridge from the cavity - this is not easy without first emptying the fridge/freezer of its contents. Pushing it back into the cavity is how one of the dents occurred. 5. The freezer might have the storage capacity in litres, however I find that this freezer does not stack quite so well and seems to hold less - I think this is because of the top freezer drawer. Overall a great fridge, but with the annoyances listed.
Positive reviews
Great product – The only negative I have is that both doors have to be opened to pull the drawers out. The drawers are individually designed but not individually on runners so when pulling a drawer out you’re pulling both out. Separate them then you could get to one drawer by opening one door. My only gripe. Show details
Great Fridge – I really wanted a French door fridge when the time came to replace our old one and the Fisher & Paykel 614 litre fridge was perfect. I love the width of the shelves which is great for large items. I even surprised myself with how much I could fit in it. We purchased this just before Christmas and it was great not having to jostle for room for… Read more

Perfect Addition To My New Kitchen – I have recently completed a kitchen renovation and this fridge is the perfect addition to my beautiful new kitchen. It looks smart ( I love the black ) and classy. It maintains a consistent and reliable temperature in each compartment. The water dispenser is sleek and delivers cooled water. The ice compartment is great automatically creating ice… Read more
and sensing when the ice compartment is full. There is ample space for a family of 3. The measurements are perfect for designated fridge space so that it doesn't stick out. Other fridges of the same capacity measured too bulky. I adore my attractive, classy, beautiful fridge.

Awful customer service – Last Fisher & Paykel product we buy. With less than 4 years of use, we had issues with the food in the fridge freezing. Fisher & Paykel refused to pay for a technician to diagnose the issue. Turned out to be a faulty sensor. Despite this, they still refused to pay for the call out fee or the labour to replace the sensor. Not to mention the cost of… Read more
the food we’ve had to throw out because it was spoiled. Their excuse? The fridge is nearly 4 years old and we haven’t reported any issues in the past. Despite Australian Consumer Law which states a product has to last a “reasonable” time ( which is at least 10 years for a fridge) they wouldn’t budge. Now they have an angry customer who is posting this review over $70 of labour and a $155 call out fee. Pathetic!
Disappointing – Bought end of December 2020. Compressor failed end of 2021. Replaced entire fridge under warranty. April 2024 water filter head started leaking. Tried new filter, no change. The head was from the original fridge, and also had the kit from the replacement fridge so replaced with that which also leaked. Waiting to see what Fisher and Paykel support… Read more
say, but even if they decide to replace I suspect the new filter head will also leak. You can see why it leaks because there are two parts (black and white) and it leaks between them. Looking at a third party option.
Expected more from a > $2k appliance. More fool me I guess. It's the 21st century, we shouldn't be having these problems.
Leaky filter housing ruined floor – The water filter housing at the rear of our Fisher and Paykel French door fridge has had a constant slow leak that ruined our spotted gum flooring adjacent to the fridge. On searching the internet, this is a common problem for which Fisher and Paykel should have notified owners and rectified accordingly. Show details

Leaky filter housing damaged floor – Same experience here with a leaky filter housing. Very disappointed. Company should have done a product recall. Massive amount of damage to the kitchen floor. Show details
Good fridge, leaky water filter – Consistent with other experiences, our filter also leaks at the filter head and has also destroyed the cupboard it is in. Will look for alternate filter system as this is clearly a dud. Other than this, the fridge and freezer works fine. Ice making a bit slow, but fine for our consumption. Show details
So far so good – Have had this fridge for three years and so far so good. The only gripe I have is that the stainless steel dents and scratches very easily, also marks very easily ie. finger prints all around the handles. Would not recommend putting magnets on the fridge. Also, if anything falls out of the fridge it will ding the top of the freezer. Or if your… Read more
kid accidentally pushes his walker or toy car into the fridge expect a new dent every time. Have always been loyal to F&P but I would probably try another brand next time as the dents do bother me.
Simple things don't work – Very annoyed the water dispenser leeks water and cause a lot of damage to our cabinetry phone Fisher and Paykel could not care less wanted to send a service man out charged me $300 400 dollars never purchase a Fisher & Paykel product again fridge was only 15 months old Show details
2 door Fridge – Again, my wife strikes again. I would have stuck with traditional fridge makers Westinghouse or Kelvinator or Whirlpool. Fisher and Paykel? She went for the expensive brand, again thinking the expensive choice was best. WRONG! Would you believe me if I told you that this $3000+ fridge doesn't have a light in the freezer, so you can't see anything… Read more
in it at night, seriously WTH? The freezer is on the bottom and it's a draw that slides out. It is so noisy, that it sounds like a morgue draw is being pulled out. Stick with the companies that traditionally make fridges as I stated above.
Bad experience with this product and terrible customer service from fisher and paykel – Handles missing on delivery. Several faults within 6months: Faulty water tank sensor, then control panel and then faulty ice maker. freezer door also sticks can easily be accidentally left open. Show details
Terrible ice maker... Terrible warranty service... avoid – We bought fridge new predominantly for the ice and water feature. The ice making side was temperamental from the beginning. The water flow is extremely slow compared to all others we have owned or used. The ice maker sometimes decides it doesn’t want to make ice then the next day you open the freezer to find in spilling out everywhere including… Read more
over the back of the drawer and out onto the floor at your feet... we filled out warranty details and the warranty agent eventually called us once we called them after waiting weeks and they said they’d call Fisher & Paykel but sounded like it needed a whole new ice maker.. we called them back weeks later and they said they’d chase it up... that’s the last we heard from them. We then called Fisher & Paykel and they said they’d call us back... and that’s the last we heard from them. We have called Joyce Mayne where we bought it and that have been great. They are currently chasing Fisher & Paykel. So as of today we still have not had our $3000 fridge fixed and WOULD NOT recommend these fridges to anyone and considering the service from Fisher & Paykel themselves and their warranty agents, WOULD NOT recommend any Fisher & Paykel products to anyone. My next step is going to be consumer affairs.
Damaged Goods – We received this fridge via delivery from The Good Guys as part of a Kitchen renovation and to up grade an old fridge for my elderly In-laws home. When the packaging was removed, I noticed the draw handle and draw face was badly damaged. I contacted F&P on 11th Feb and then had to wait another week before there Tech could call by to inspect the… Read more
obvious damage. I sent an email 2 days ago with no response so I called F&P and was told the parts are still coming (with no way of checking) and that I should wait for a call from the Tech in the near future? I NEED AN ETA!!!
To summerise, This is not a cheap fridge and this was bought by pensioner's. The fridge is part of a full Kitchen renovation and this is the only thing they cannot use.
The customer service levels here need to be improved.
nice fridge for the money – The fridge is nice looking and solid , good value , very quiet , and functional . The stainless finish looks good and is easy to clean . Does a great job of keeping food fresh and cold . However the ice maker is too slow , and the instruction booklet could be better . Over all I am happy . Show details

Hard to clean – I was so excited to buy this fridge as it looks beautiful but so disappointed when using it. The black is the hardest fridge that I've ever tried to clean. I even called customer service to ask how as no matter what I did it just didn't look like when I bought it and that's only a month later. I was told to use a microfibre cloth and go with the… Read more
grain but you don't get one with the fridge. This helped but it's still hard. The other issue is that you have to open both doors to access the draws which I think is a design fault. Other than this the fridge is good.
Ok Fridge but the stainless finish is poor – This fridge looks great as long as you never touch it. The stainless finish is not very good. I’ve had this fridge for about 12 months and it has severl tiny dents. And I never noticed how they happened. A container accidentaly fell from a shelf onto the freezer door and left a large dent on the top edge that is unsitely. But the worst thing… Read more
about the stainless finish is that it leaves finger prints everywhere. I have to clean it 3 - 4 times a day. It looks disgusting. The layout of the fridge is great. That was a main reason why I purchased it. The slide out drawers are nice. The doors are easy to open but won’t close easily on their own. The fridge will beep when the doors are left open which is very handy. The temperature can be inconsistent too. Sometimes drinks and condiment jars will freeze whilst other drink bottles are not very cold. This only happens on the top shelf though. Even at it’s coldest setting it doesn’t quite get as cold as my 20 year old Westinghouse fridge that is still running. In contrast, the freezer compartment works very well. And contrary to what other reviewers have stated, this is not the quietest fridge. I don’t know whether mine has a fault but every now and then I can hear an annoying buzzing from the motor. I expected more from a premium product at this price range.
Wonderful Fridge – Love the design. Purchased this in my own house after moving out because it was in our family home growing up. It's spacious and has lots of space in the fridge and freezer. Show details
Warning do not buy!! – This fridge - silver metal one - was one of the most expensive for it's size at Harvey Norman and F & P came highly recommended. Within 6mths generator failed and was replaced. rubber seal started to come away from freezer door. F & P silent on doing anything regarding the rapid decay of their product. I am pleased I purchased Harvey Norman's product care replace - as I will need it!!! Fridges always have moisture within them so surely they should not rust or perish - especially in 3 years.
I wish I had not bought this fridge – I am so disappointed about the light weight s/s finish. It has dented after 3-4 months . Compared to previous s/s European brand owned for 16 years - the finish is so light weight. Also within it the plastic that forms the seal for the vege drawers is also really light weight and I can't see this lasting long. Not helped by the fact that when… Read more
I went back to Harvey Norman, the sales person said to me, Oh I never recommend F&P, I always tell people to buy European..... unfortunately I got that message a little too late.
Great fridge – This is a really good fridge/freezer. It is quite solidly made, with the drawers being on metal runners. It is very quiet and efficient. The water filter and water line was pretty easy to install. It keeps our food very fresh. Particularly good for keeping vegies crisp in the vegie drawer. Overall, no problems. Love the automatic ice-maker. Show details
Had to get it serviced 11 times in 8 years – We bought the Fisher and Paykel refrigerator 8 years back . In the very first year itself a fault in the freezer tripped our power . maker alone had to be serviced more than 4 times for different issues . Then the refrigerator started leaking water and had to be serviced again After this the temperature gauge stopped working . Now it has tripped our power again and earliest available service is almost a week after we contacted the service centre. Unfortunately the fridge has been out of warranty for many years and we have paid over a Thousand Dollars in service cost alone besides Thousands of Dollars in groceries that were spoiled.
There is surely a design fault in this model especially the ice maker and freezer and I hope the company examines and fixes this fault before more consumers like us have to suffer .
Good solid fridge – 6 months since purchase. Couldn't be happier. Had a single door f&p before. Inside is basic and does the job. Door handles very good unlike the hollow ones on others Show details
BIg fridge with almost nothing inside – This is OK for a large volume fridge, but it has practically nothing inside. The main storage area in the freezer is a large bin (with 2 small drawers above that), so you'll be digging through the large bin looking for frozen food. Very cheap and messy solution. The fridge also has very little inside - not even egg trays. For a $2,000 fridge… Read more
surely F&P could have afforded to include fitted egg trays? I paid a premium for the F&P brand over other fridges, but definitely got less.
Reliable and the most quiet fridge – The F&P fridge has a very smart temperature stabilizing system, and it's almost not there at all., so very quiet. The shelves are adjustable and very practical to suit all types of users. It has NON-squeaky doors and are easy to open and close and they don't close with a bang like others. power usage is great too. easy to clean and access inside of the tray compartments. true value for money. Good product just not for me – Fridge is nicely made, looks good and has good shelving space. I would prefer a product with one door rather than two just for opening space. Freezer is a good side and drawers slide out nicely. Just can't see what's in the drawers when they're closed Show details
Great Fridge – All in all this is a great fridge, spacious, well thought through, even temperature and I think is a very stylish design. The only negative is the drawer runners, which seem to get stiff and seize up before fully extending. Apart from this minor issue its a great fridge
Excellent french door fridge – This is an excellent fridge for family of 4 or 5 people. i have been using this fridge for last 6 months and so far it is going great. Pros: Lot of storage Adjustable shelves Alarm system Separate Temperature control for above and below compartment.
