After being screwed around by major banks. I found G&C Mutual Bank. Definitely one of the best banks ive been with. Customer service is fast and you actually speak to a person in Australia. They also sort your problem there and then, if they cant they tell you and actually call you back with the solution. Their staff are great and friendly. Recently became customers of this bank via their merger with Unity Bank and have received atrocious service and disconnected, outdated systems. only way that i was certain the application was received was via a credit check (which I wasnt given notice for).
It was radio silence after that. I tried contacting via email twice more after that and provided my post code when prompted but never contacted or followed up with after. Ive tried calling once only to have the call disconnected from their end. The credit check is affecting my score and impacting my ability to take my business elsewhere.
Words that come to mind when I think of G&C Mutual Bank: 1. Rude 2. Obstructive 3. Horrific customer service 4. Unethical fees 5. be as unprofessional as possible because clearly whoever is in charge of quality assurance has left the building. Everything from the ancient application process, through to “experts” failing to understand even basic high school economics through to an app that appears to have been developed by someone who doesn’t own a smartphone. And I haven’t even mentioned the surprise fees! If you ever have the displeasure of engaging with any of the home loan “experts” you will likely require counselling, there are two old females specifically who are genuinely the embodiment of human misery and offer no flexibility or basic decency. Avoid at all costs, only one step removed from being loan sharks, and I am being kind.

starting to hike. To this date we are very happy with them and we love how easy it is to speak to a real person and get a fast response. When they say they will phone back in 5-10 minutes, they really do!

Home Loans – I was trying to grab a homeloan. They have asked for many documents, accounts, retirement funds and then appeared as confused not grasping the information and asked for my wife's super and financial detail so she has never works for ten years. When the info provided to them I was ghosted and never heard from them again.

bad you couldn't make this stuff up. Attempted to apply for a credit card online.total waste of time. On attempting to provide my Medicare card details? I couldn't given my expiry date is 2027 and their drop down date mechanism only goes up to 2024. I was then sent a pdf application by a kind member of their staff. Comical in that it was so convoluted and poorly written, I was treated to 3 phone calls to clarify my responses. I had to explain to the staff member what salary packaging was and how it works.pitiful and embarrassing for all concerned. Don't get me wrong.the staff are wonderful.however the policies and guidelines set by management are out of date and not helpful for their staff or customers. I'm packing up my funds and leaving. Not happy about it as it's been important for me to support them,but enough is enough.

End of phone banking – Was recently notified phone banking services will be turned off in September. That means I will not be able to manage my finances from remote areas that that have no WiFi and only have land line telephones. I am now forced to withdraw my money, close my accounts and open a new bank account with a bank that has telephone banking. So unhappy. Show details

Log in failing to respond – I have been with GandC mutual for decades. This is the second time, of late, that the log in to the app has jammed, that is, not opened my account. Although the phone number is advertised as being active 24/7, it is in fact, only operative during business hours. Very frustrating. Don't waste your time – Applied 3 months ago for a home loan online with G&C mutual, was happy that they called me back the next day to proceed with the loan application. However after providing all of my personal information to them for the home loan they never came back to me. The application was for a personal credit card. This has nothing to do with my partner and having money in a mortgage redraw is a good thing!
Fundamentally this bank is actively involved in discriminatory behaviour. Shame. Shame. Shame.

Term Deposit Limitations – Be aware that you are limited to a maximum of TEN (10) Term Deposits when using G&C Mutual Bank. The TDs are numbered XXX, XXX.1 to XXX.9. The only way around this limitation is to contact G&C. This will of course incur TIME delays. This has left me very disappointed with the overall service. Show details
Utterly useless - don't waste your time – If I could give 0/5 I would. They ran a special 5.49% offer to refinance home loans. I responded online and was sent an email advising the bank will contact me. these people and the 5.49% offers has now expired. I think I have dodged a bullet. If this is how they behave to try and win your business, I can't imagine how bad their service would be after you are a customer of theirs. Steer clear people!
What a poor standard of bank. Hopeless – Its hard to put into words the dissapointment from this bank. There home loan department is the most unprofessional and obstructive department i have ever had to deal with. They seem to not know what they are doing and have cost thousands in extra money due to there inability to do there job effectively. I would not recommend this bank sorry. Show details

Increased the rate of refinanced home loan in one month – I found G&C in finder.com.au and they had the lowest home loan rate at the time so I refinanced my home loan with them but only after one month, they increased the rate. I would have chosen a different bank if I knew this is going to happen. It seems low rate was offered to get people on board and then change the rate. Show details
Refinancing experience – I am new to bank and the whole process started when I did an online application for refinancing. Catherine from G&C handled my application from the beginning to end and she made the process super easy, smooth and quick. Very Disappointing – The bank would not refund money taken fraudulently from my account. The manager would not return my call. started with this bank many years ago when it was a credit union. The customer service used to be great. Now it is terrible. They are cold, abrupt & seem to want to be of as little help as possible.

The customer service provided by Teresa and the G&C team was of an extremely high standard and I can not thank them enough. Being a small lender they provide a personal touch. What G&C lacks in branch locations it makes up for in exceptional service and competitive rates.

Disgusting bank – The bank charges you $50 if you are in debit a cent Disgusting When you phone them they have not sympathetic
Fee creep – Started out with a Quay credit card because they had great interest rates. As seems to be the case with a lot of these small credit unions, it got bought out by G&C Mutual who slowly lifted the fees to the point where it was a lot cheaper going with a major bank. I have no idea what goes through the heads of the exec in these companies as they must realise they'll lose customers. Anyway they lost me.
