A wonder experience with this bank – I am pleased with the Australian Mutual Bank. I have been a member for more than 30 years. It used to be a different name, Credit Union, for Rail and Transport employees. The staff are very polite, helpful and accommodating. I’ve been to many banks, too. Credit Unions are for people, not just to earn money like many other big banks. I want to mention the employee who helped me, Mati Itula; she is very nice.
Great experience!! – Applying for a car loan was made easy. The staff were friendly, patient, helpful, and gave good advice. Both my wife and I were very pleased with the service. Paul & Bernadette who guided us through the process are a credit to the bank.

was suddenly blocked without warning and without any notification to me. This left me without access to funds while overseas.
When I tried to contact the bank from overseas, my calls initially kept ringing unanswered. When I eventually spoke to someone, they were unhelpful and unable to resolve the issue. The problem remains unresolved.
This is not the first time this has happened. Recently, my card was cancelled without adequate explanation, and I experienced similar difficulties getting clear answers. Due to ongoing poor communication and lack of responsiveness, I also moved my home loan away from the bank.
The bank is now seeking member support to merge and become a larger organisation. In my view, basic customer service, communication, and reliability need to be significantly improved before expanding further.
At present, I do not feel confident relying on this bank when travelling or in urgent situations

Hi Five for acknowledgment & response. However, I recently tried to refinance mortgage for the special fixed rate of 4.74% (investment) I doubt any one managed to win this deal. I doubt this offer really has been offered to anyone. I wonder this deal is just to make this bank more attractive to customers? Quite frustrating. Show details

The application process with AMB was extremely exhausting. They requested almost 20 different documents which I produced without hesitation as I was able to access online. bank will take a really long time, that why I removed a star because of super duper over-onerous process they have, where you are required to entered a branch, post out/post in document where nowadays everything is digital. Especially requiring a on-site valuation and if the valuer doesn't state the facts properly, it will cause alot of hassle and back and forth. I would suggest the bank to take common sense approach, as sometimes the valuer they engaged may state some findings but omit the full story which the bank can verify themselves easily rather than trying to wait for everything the to be resolved. In my case "Anu" was helpful to pass on to her manager that instead of wasting everyone time, either they progress or reject my application. My recommendation is if refinancing, worth going to this bank as there is no time constraint (maybe just paying extra interest rate for the extra time), if purchasing a property, not really worth the risk due to the over-onerous process that might cost the applicant more than they bargain for if didn't settle on time.

Not happy – Be sure your wages are fantastic. I applied for a home loan and called beforehand to make sure I am able to service the loan based on their requirements. The loan was only small. told they could only use 80% of overtime when doing their calculations. This was not mentioned beforehand. I was actually shocked to be rejected. My wages were very good and I could easily afford the repayments even with a fair few interest rate rises. My current repayments are much higher than what the loan would have been, plus we were paying extra every single week. In less than 2 years we already had 50k in available redraw. My LVR was fantastic. Even that was not good enough. Now I have an enquiry on my name because of the rejection and now when I try and refinance with someone else, they will see that and could possibly be rejected again because of it. Plus my wife is working on a casual basis and because she was shy a few months of being there a year, they could not take her wages into consideration. Another thing, I had to chase them up for an update, and when I did, that is when they told me I was rejected. Not great on keep me updated. Be careful with these smaller banks. It’s a lot harder to get approval from them, even with a very good wage.

weeks when they said 24-48 hours! Each step they asked for documentation that we had already provided, and then we didn't hear back for another 3-4 days, then again for more documentation and repeat. They could have just said from the get-go that they don't service self-employed applicants. Waste of our time and now we have to start again somewhere else. Not happy.

bank themselves). In all my 57 years, I have never encountered this and it was to happen twice within a six month period. Through AMB’s help I was able to retrieve all of the funds. I suspect due to their size and logistics, the AMB are unable to safeguard deposits as bigger banks do. This is a pity because, I do agree with smaller community banks like AMB. Unfortunately, I have had to return to one of the big four mainly for peace of mind.

Typical meaningless "bank" with pathetic slogans on homepage. Credit cards applications are taken with classic formalism treating applicants as thefts or homeless drug users despite of the income, assets, etc. "Support" is from overseas. Short description - the same rubbish as others.
