It’s great
My first hair straightener ever. And had to buy for my teen daughter.I am really against these things as it may cause so much damage. She has very long hair past her waist, very thick and dry.
It’s working well with ease, it’s safe to use and the end result is great. The product stands up to its brand. Show details
This is a perfect option for quick hair fix
So, my hair is wavy and dry with dead ends from hair colouring damage. I work as an assistant accounts manager, dealing with clients almost every day, and having to see them with my awful-looking hair is the last thing I want. That's why I considered buying a hair iron and did some research until one day I saw this on Instagram from one of the famous salons in Sydney.
Here are the things that made me decide to get it:
- Used by professional hairstylists
- Good for thick hair
- Affordability: 8/10
- Quick to use and finish
And here's my verdi... Read more
ct after getting it: - It's really convenient; after drying my hair, I only have to use this for a few minutes, and I'm all set every morning, considering I have full, thick, long hair—so thick that three people have to dry my hair at the salon. - I got mine during a sale, so I think the original price was $400+ AUD, and I got mine for $200+ AUD. - This is something you can use daily, and just a bit of hair oil after ironing makes it look healthy and shiny. This is an honest review based on my personal experience, and I would totally recommend this product.Faulty Item Terrible Service
I purchase the Max Wide Straightener in June and after 3 mths it would not turn on just flashed red and turned off. I contacted GHD and was given an address to send my item back for repair which I did. That was now 5 weeks ago and I have heard nothing. I have emailed multiple times with no response, I went onto their Customer Service Whats App twice and again no response. I am at a loss what to do looks like I have lost $300. I have tried to look up a Head Office contact number and there is nothing absolutely no way to contact them or get a response. From such a large company this is terrible service. I would not purchase GHD again. Not worth the trouble. Show details
Worked great, until it didn't
I had it for about a year but I'm not the kind of person who does my hair everyday. I probably straighten my hair once a fortnight, so it hadn't been used alot. Anyway, one day it started beeping and flashing. I googled it and general consensus was Thermistor was broken and needed replacing or repairing. Well I was still under warranty so I called the 0800 number (I live in NZ). No answer. The message is that the staff are at.a party. Few days later I called again.... no please call between 9am and 2pm QLD TIME. Ridiculously small time window f... Read moreor working international customers but ok cool I'll try. I tried multiple times for several weeks with the most ridiculous messages on their voice mail. But if you try the extension for "making a payment" there's always staff available on there of course. Just never anyone to answer the phone for warranty claims. I give up and try online. Email all the info required as per their warranty or repair process online with screenshots of my receipt etc. They email be back saying my repair or replacement is approved and send me a return slip and address tell me to post the faulty straightener and tell me if I send them the tracking number they will post a replacement straight away instead of having to wait for them to receive the faulty one. WELL. I should've listened to my sister when she told me to get a cloud nine and I didn't. I sent my hair straightener back over 6 weeks ago. I can never get through to them by phone unless I through the payments extension. I have emailed multiple times and always get the automated "you're and valued customer were working on your request" and "it may take us 5 days to reply" I just want my broken hair straightener back at this point. I should've taken it to a local place and repaired it. I almost want to write fraud here because that's how I feel. They always have someone on the line to take money but never to discuss a warranty for an item they've already received. I'm upset. Don't buy ghd.Horrendous customer service and faulty product
I bought the GHD max last year and it stopped working after about a month. So I went back to using my old straightener. I went to use it again about a month or two ago hoping it would work again but still flashing red. I had never dropped it and kept it in the packaging. I sent my ghd back a month and a half ago on warranty and have received nothing, not even an email. The tracking number says it’s been with them for a month. Their customer service makes it almost impossible to get in contact with someone and just hangs up after a while, it’s as if they only have 2 people working the customer service lines. Incredibly disappointed and feel robbed Show detailsGHD Wide plate
I would not recommend this product. I bought this for my daughter who turned 18 in April. Stopped working only after a couple of weeks, red flashing light and would not heat up. I then returned it under warranty and after only 2 months the new one they sent is doing the same thing. There is obviously a problem with this product and it is very disappointing as GHD use to be great when I first purchased one 20 years ago but I have nothing good to say now and if I can recommend to anyone to save the hassle and buy a different product. I am also still waiting for them to return my email and give me my money back as they just want to send me another faulty product Show detailsGreat start, sad finish
I've had GHD, Cloud 9 and a cheaper iron SAS and the SAS has outlived them all. I love the GHD but I'm tired of throwing money at them with a few failed purchases dying just after warranty ends. The newest was the wide plate styler which died a month after warranty ended (2years) with a flashing red light and won't heat up. My first GHD back in 2007 was the best at 10 years longevity, they don't make them like that anymore. Show detailsGame changer - waited too long!
I have been using the same hair straightener I purchased in 2004 and thought it was good (purchase through a salon). This one is brilliant! Heats quickly and let’s you know when ready. Lightweight and easy to manage. I have fine hair - naturally curly and can frizz easily. One pass through the hair with this - straight and no frizz. Yes I use a heat protectant product and it feels great and looks super shiny. I can’t believe I waited this long. Forever grateful to my hairdresser using it on my hair last week and telling me the best way to purchase! I heard the ghd max wide plates were awesome hair straighteners , and i literally only recieved them a few days ago, and have only used them under 4 times and they have just suddenly stopped working, very disappointed! my remingtons have last me like 2 years and still going well, and wanted to upgrade to something nice. will be in contact with customer support regarding this. I was super excited for the ghd max 2021 edition with black sparkly plates..was very disappointed.. it does a great job straightening but no matter what I do it snags my hair in-between the plate and the plastic bit..I got a warranty replacement and the same thing with the new one so it's a design fault. Makes it super painful and takes even longer than normal as I'm trying to avoid getting my hair caught.very disappointed
Still love this GHD but wish I'd stuck with the original
I've had GHDs since they came out and never had a problem (except 1 where my hairdresser sold me one of theirs but it wasn't actually a GHD,). I have VERY long hair (mid back) and it's very very thick. I was tossing up up between replacing my original with the same or this one when it sadly retired. It has all the plus's of the original, good quality, even heat etc.The bit about easier to make large waves tipped me in favour of this one.
It is true they're a bit easier but ultimately I've found it's not any different as a straightener com... Read more
pared to the original on long thick hair. BUT you do lose a bit of mobility and angles, I have some wispy strands of hair around my temples and ears and it's definately a lot easier to get to hard to reach areas with the original. Ultimately, there are other ways to do curls, and it made no difference straightening my hair. I still would always recommend the GHD but the small lack of manoevarability greatly outweighs the curl benefit with this model.Best straightener I’ve used!
I’ve gone through many different straighteners in my life time, but I always get reeled back into GHD. I have both a normal, and max GHD but this one is by far my favourite. My hair isn’t very thick, however it’s very long, and I just find that with the wider heat plate, your hair straightens so much better! A lot quicker too which means less damage is being done to your hair! I also find that when I use it I don’t have to section my hair into tiny little bits, so again less damage is being done to my hair because it’s just so easy and practic... Read moreal to use! As for the heat, I’ve had this for I’d say... 5 years now and it still work just as perfect and heats up just as much as the day I got it! Its good
This has been a great find for my hair. I have very thich hair and this makes straightening a breeze. The plates being wider i find more effective. I find after awhile it may not be working as well as its new self but i am happy to recommend this product. Show details · 1Lasted about 30 times and died. Out of warranty. Don’t buy ghd
The straightener worked very well it was great. However after about 30 uses it just stopped working. warranty only lasts for 2yrs and it was 2 years 6 months olds.Straight hair like you can't imagine
I have incredibly thick and curly hair, and I've always had problems straightening it as no straighteners could handle my hair. With the wide plate of the gold max, It can handle larger parts of my hair. So easy to use, and it cuts down the time it usually took for my hair.Questions & Answers
Can ghd max be used on fine hair or will it damage it ?
How do i chose between the v gold max and a v gold classic?? i am totally lost !! please help my hair's length just about reaches my shoulders so it is not very long but not very short either,, its very thick also ,,but i saw that the original gold has two censors where the max only has one and im afraid i wont be able to curl my hair so easily with the max but i dont wanna spent hours straitening my hair with the original if it could have taken me half the time with the max PLEASSSE HELP
Hmm good question, I’m not sure really.. I have never been able to curl my hair with a straightener one thing I really struggle with. Personally I think they would both work fine for straigtening thick hair. Can you go to a shop to try both maybe?
Hi maya, I use the ghd for curling my hair too which is super convenient. My hair is long and thin but I still don’t think it would take you too long to straighten. I think the flexibility or curl/str... Read more
