Difficult time to build – This review was originally not good for GJG. Communications and personnel issues probably the cause of this. GJG have got in touch and are well on the way to fixing the remaining outstanding issues. The Newcastle manager is a good guy that has been let down by some of his staff. With changes made and COVID-19 recovery, things should improve. The owner/manager is a good guy. He is a straight talker, and when he says that he will get things done, they do get done. What's important when reading this review is understanding the context of the times: COVID-19 and Government policy caused serious supply and quality issues in the building industry as a whole. I've not found anyone who has started a build within the last two years who has been happy with their builder's performance. Some of my neighbours' builds (not by GJG) have had serious issues - some structural, some quality and plenty of delays. The good side is that GJG are at last completing the job they were contracted to do, and the result will be a great home. The bad side is that it has taken a long time to get here, and poor staff and tradies have made the exercise frustrating. Compared to other builds, GJG hasn't done anything that makes them stand out as much better or much worse than the others.

First Home Build - Hawkesbury 255 – From walking through the display home at Billy’s Lookout to walking through the door of my new home (Hawkesbury 255 modified) it has been a great experience. The team at GJ Newcastle are friendly, approachable and they listen to any concerns or questions you have along the way. This was our first home build we’ve ever done so we were a little nervous about the whole process and not really sure of the building processes. The staff in the office did an outstanding job at re-assuring us along the way and assisting with paperwork and requirements, like colour selections and contract signing. They were always contactable via phone and email and would always get back to you with answers. The build for our single level four bedroom home at Cooranbong took approx. six months from site fencing going up to hand over. Any issues or queries along the way were addressed quickly and discussed directly. There were a few hurdles along the way such as the estate’s recycled water system connection and some building hurdles, which is par for the course when building a house. The quality of the trades and products used is exceptional and the finished product was worth the wait. The build came in exactly on the initial quote provided (with one variation for piering which was expected) which was amazing. I have heard stories from our new neighbours who built with other well know building companies that had variation after variation and ended up with a large cost. Thankfully GJ were accurate and upfront from the start about all costs to build so there were no surprises. All costs were explained and all paperwork was easy to read and understand. A big thankyou to Chris our supervisor who went above and beyond during the build answering all our questions no matter how big or small they were and delivering a fantastic home. We are currently in the 13 week defect period now and any issues since hand over have been swiftly dealt with by the GJ team and attended to and we are loving our first little home. With GJ you are treated like a friend and not just another number. The team is down to earth and if you are looking for a quality built home delivered by a friendly team I highly recommend the Newcastle GJ team. We would definitely build with them again.

GJGardner Newcastle - Murrays Beach build – We are extremely happy with our new GJGardner Home. The service which Newcastle Office (Mark Eddy Building) has afforded us during the build was fantastic. A special mention goes to Mark Eddy himself for his professional approach and communication with us throughout the build. The finish on our Home is excellent and I would highly recommend Mark and his Team to build with in the Newcastle area. Very happy clients in our retirement.

Thank you for the 5-star review! Thank you for choosing to build with G.J. Gardner Homes Newcastle. Mark runs a very wonderful business and extremely professional builders. We're happy you had a great experience, this is important to us. Enjoy your new home!
We couldn't be happier with our house- GJ Gardners Newcastle – From the very first meeting with Darren- the New Home Consultant for GJ Gardner Newcastle- we knew we had the right builder for us. He was able to answer all our questions and left us feeling confident that Mark Eddy and Sharyn Clare- the directors of Newcastle GJ Gardners- and their team would be able to deliver the house we wanted. With a big block and rear lane access, we wanted to knock down a stable block and the garage so that we could build a new house on the back half of our block, but keep the existing house at the front of the block with the intention of sub-dividing the block into two. Our build wasn't going to be the run-of-the-mill new build in a new estate so it was important that our builder knew our local council restrictions and GJ's in Newcastle knew exactly what would work with our council and with us.
The entire Newcastle GJ Gardner team were wonderful. They are always very friendly, helpful and went above and beyond to ensure that our built went seamlessly and even finished before our contract deadline! Any requests for changes had were met without any hassle or delay. As we lived with the build happening in our back yard so to speak, Mark and Sharyn ensured that little impact was made to us throughout the duration of the build. The site was always left tidy and sub-contractors have been always friendly, considerate and worked to a high standard. We couldn't be happier with our house. It has been finished with such impeccable quality throughout. Both our bank valuer and private certifier said that they found GJ Gardner Newcastle to be of the highest quality of the houses that they are requested to inspect. We couldn't recommend them highly enough, the whole experience was pleasurable and stress free.

Terrible – We built with G J Gardner Newcastle (NSW), and are very disappointed at the finished product. Our contract expired 6/7 months ago and there are items still incomplete. As a few other people have reported here, GJ Gardner do not return phone calls or emails or a very slow to do so. I have been informed they have started to implement "quality control" processes that ensure a job is finished to a high standard - unfortunately ours is not one of them.
Anyone thinking about building the GJ Gardner - give them a big miss! Quality is decent - but only just makes the grade. A few things - but mainly the initial sales pitch, where we were shown around a "quality" JG Gardner home and sold on the premise of a "solid, quality, fit and finish build", which they have not lived up.
