This company was previously known as The Global Work & Travel Co.
I noticed a real lack of transparency regarding their refund policy at the time of booking. It was only after I made a payment that I was emailed the terms and conditions, which is when I realized you can't actually get your money back. They also prefer to do everything over the phone—especially payments—using high-pressure techniques, and then… Read more
they only email you the full details after the fact.
Due to health reasons and their high-pressure methods, I wanted a full refund but was denied. I would not recommend going with Global Work and Travel. If you do, make sure you read the very complex terms and conditions on their website thoroughly first. Even then, after this experience, I’d prefer to do it on my own.

Long winded but VERY honest review of the NZ Work and Travel Package – 5-Stars but with a massive * asterisk (specific to New Zealand)! Ok so in theory Global Work and Travel makes a lot of sense if you're someone who needs a one stop shop to sort out your airline tickets, visa's, health insurance, bank account (Wise*), phone sim card, experiences/excursions, job INTERVIEWS***, etc (please read: if you're a young,… Read more
unorganised person, who doesn't have much experience travelling, this might be the option for you). Pay a company money, who flawlessly deals with all that headachey stuff for you. For me, that's exactly what I needed at the time - was dealing with other life stuff at home so I needed to have my hand held a bit. Steep price...but you're paying for the peace of mind. If you can afford it, and the country you're going to has a good job market (I'll get into detail about this later), go for it. I'm a high-functioning, highly organized, 33 year old female, with lots of experience travelling. I had already sorted out tickets, visa, travel insurance ($$ cheaper than the GW&T option), bank account (*Wise, which btw guys, a lot of employers don't accept here in NZ as a viable bank to deposit your hard earned money into, I ended up having to go in person and set up an account at Bank of NZ anyway ugh) - I was really paying GW&T for their job connections, a handful of fun excursions, and my sim card, because I had already taken care of the meat and potatoes of what GW&T does.
To answer the baseline questions they've suggested here:
Did you encounter any unexpected or additional fees after you made the booking? - No What did you book, and how was your experience? Did it meet your expectations? - Working Holiday In New Zealand. Experience was easy, I'm pretty sure I got a discount at the time of booking. It met expectations. If applicable, how easy was it to adjust or cancel your booking? Super easy to adjust dates of accomodation, and activities provided you give them enough notice in advance. Didn't need to cancel my booking because I signed up so late (well past the cancellation deadline, so thank you guys for getting me in) so I can't comment on the cancellation policy but please look into this before you book.
Before I start my honest, wholehearted rant of a review, I just want to say that Asti, my Arrival Coordinator, and my Trip Coordinator (who's name I can't remember) were/are FANTASTIC. Asti has really done the absolute most for me, making sure I was informed and understood the process. Infact, she's my go to person for the entire time I'm here which is amazing. She follows up promptly, gives you updates, and is extremely professional and reliable. Asti even has a direct line that I was able to call and speak to her directly about things, a few times, no fuss. She has picked up her phone every time. A+++ to Asti. You really did organize the highlights of my trip so far. Love you to the moon and back. Global Work and Travel - give this lady a raise cuz she is everything you want in an Arrivals Coordinator and if you do go through this company, I hope you get her as your person.
*Now...here's the explanation to the massive asterisk to my 5-star review (again, specific to New Zealand, maybe even just Wellington) and my full story thus far - I arrived in Auckland Feb 1st, and I've been here for 3 weeks now.
You need to understand going into your contract with this company that your job PLACEMENT is not guaranteed. Even an interview PRE-arrival is not guaranteed. This is completely out of their control, and they reiterate this to you in writing repeatedly, so you can't come back and cry to them. Truly, it is totally dependent on the state of the job market in the country you're going to, and what the employers of the country are looking for (GW&T's "partner organizations"). When I was planning my year abroad in NZ, I thought, "oh ya, no problem, will be easy as to get a job in hospitality, especially with my stacked CV". Wrong. As I got closer to my trip, and was reading more posts in various FB groups that I'm a part of, I realized that the Wellington did not have a need for hospitality workers as badly as I originally thought. I was offered one interview pre-arrival but it was in Queenstown (I have free accommodation in Wellington, I wasn't going to pass that up just to work for minimum wage in Queenstown where accommodation is almost impossible to get). Asti kindly informed me a week before my trip that unfortunately, there were no interviews for me before my trip and asked if I'd be okay to hang tight as the following month might be more promising - that's no problem girl, I'm happy to enjoy a month of summer vibes, and maybe even do a bit of job searching myself. The NEXT DAY, I got the email I had been waiting for - "You have a job interview at (enter establishment name here) in (enter city I was looking to work in here)!!!". L o L. But also, yay finally. I can cr*p myself a little less now.
I did not have my that job interview until a week AFTER I arrived - this was just scheduling on the employers part and them insisting on chatting with me AFTER I arrived to the country. And when I finally had that interview over the phone....I was told "actually some of our workers are not leaving after all so I don't have a position for you but you're first on my list!" Okay.... I freaked out, and immediately called Asti, told her "hey actually that establishment is not hiring, please put me back in the hunt for a job!" - she called me back within an hour - sounds like there was some confusion as the HIGHER UPS of the person who interviewed me confirmed with Asti that yes they were looking to hire somebody. Confusing... but my girl Asti said she'd look into it. Until then I'd have to hang tight. This was extremely stressful. I started applying to jobs on Seek, Trademe, and Indeed myself. Gruelling. I think I applied to over 70 jobs over the course of 2 days. Again, this is out of Global Work and Travel hands - I think if I had come to NZ a few years, when their job market was actually desperate, this would have been a different story. In the end, the establishment that allegedly wasn't hiring, called me back 2 days later and said they really liked me and wanted to squeeze me onto the team. They ended up hiring me (limited part time work), but also, through my own efforts and determination, I got another interview, and subsequently a job, through my hunt through Seek.
Long story short - do your research into the country you're going to. Are you capable individual with internet access who can sort stuff out on your own? Find out what the job market is like. Join FB groups (for NZ, I highly recommend "New Zealand Travel Tips NZTT" - this is not a plug, I am not a paid advertiser, that group is just like the holy bible of NZ travel tips). Research. Research. Research. Even the organized wine tour on Waiheke I tweaked a bit to my personal preference - I got there much earlier than the GW&T pre-booked ticket, explored some trails and beaches, and then started the wine tour. Make a pros and cons list of what GW&T can do for you, and how much you want to do yourself, because honestly, I wish I knew what I know now. I would have just saved the money I paid and used it for a bus tour of the South Island. Am I happy that my experience with GW&T as a company, Asti, and the organized excursions, hostel, phone sim card + first interview that were set up for me? Absolutely. Could I have done that all myself? For sure. Was the price I paid worth what GW&T did for me? No way man. But like I said earlier, at the time of setting up my trip with them, I was extremely busy with other life stuff so they did take some of that stress off my hands. No point in crying over spilled milk now, but hey, that's what the experience is all about - learning and growing. Also, it helps that New Zealand is like the most beautiful place in the world to spill milk.
Asti, these 5 stars are for you.

DO NOT BOOK WITH GLOBAL-IT IS A SCAM! BOOK DIRECTLY WITH TEFL IBERIA (they are the ones that ACTUALLY help you). They charged about 1,300 euros EXTRA just for services that they DIDN'T provide. I ended up doing ALL of the… Read more
research myself to figure out how to get my VISA & received 0 support or reminders of when to complete this complicated process (the ENTIRE reason I wanted to go through a company). My coordinator was in Australia & had NO connections to where I was from (& the VISA process) or to Spain (where I was going), therefore creating "the middle man" pointless & uniformed. The activities on the orientation week that were listed were NOT provided. They did not help me AT ALL to secure any interviews, jobs or housing, I did that on my own with guidance from TEFL. When I asked for pay transparency of where this extra $ went, they REFUSED. They are just in it to take your money, full stop. While I am grateful to be in Barcelona, Global made this process SO MUCH MORE DIFFICULT than it needed to be & left me feeling angry, scammed & taken advantage of. I will continue to tell anyone & everyone how terrible they are in hopes that nobody else has to go through the trauma that I did because of them.

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. I found them through the internet and thought it would be a solid idea to help me with my trip to Japan. the first of two installments ($2000 each) and then the second a couple months later. They called me after I paid my final installment to notify me that my date I set up was no longer available. I asked for a refund and they told me I need to cancel first. I went through the cancellation process, and about a week after they bait and switched me, saying that my date was now available and that I was not eligible for a refund. Absolute scammers and should not be allowed to do business. In 2014 they got fined for scamming their clients in similar manner.

No support, sales pressure, under delivered on promises – My daughter booked with GWT after having saved for a year. After she booked, it was difficult to contact them. She was placed in a fairly remote location and did get to socialise with other young people or meet not other volunteers. The workers in the orphanage spoke little to no English so her days were very isolating. The host family was lovely,… Read more
but that was beside the point once she got sick. She had a lengthy stay in an overseas hospital before we flew her home and still there was no support or contact from GWT and they haven't returned calls. Do not waste your money with this group. They take thousands of dollars to place you in a home where the family earns a paltry amount of money and GWT pockets the rest.

TERRIBLE DO NOT WORK HERE – *This review is regarding an employment opportunity with the company* Where do I start.. extremely disappointed. look it over and speak with my wife since I was never given a timeline. I then countered on the Tuesday to negotiate the salary. They then replied later in the day to decline the salary I asked for. I then took another day to really think it over. This morning (Aug 15) sent the signed contract over to Jay (COO).
At approximately 5pm est today (aug 15) I received a reply from Jay stating they are revoking the job offer, due to my “lengthy” time in answering and not “keeping in touch with them, and not receiving any email or text”, as well as asking for a salary bump which met more of my expectations.
I had already put in my two weeks notice on the Monday (because I needed to give at least two weeks notice to my employer). I was waiting on the salary situation as well but never showed any intent to not take this role. As a grown and responsible adult I took my time to go over everything. But now I am jobless in a week and a half thanks to these goons who revoked their offer because of these silly and stupid reasons, even after I had sent the signed contract this morning to them.
After stating my case through email, their only reply was “we are sorry for the inconvenience”. Like.. yes, thanks. I now have no job because I had to quit to give two weeks notice. I am a husband and father. They have completely ruined my career and put a major burden on my family.
So, thanks Jay and Julia for your inconsiderate actions and putting a major strain on a young family. You are unloyal, dishonest, and just overall sleezy, shady and sketchy.
I guess there’s a reason most of their reviews are terrible and people complaining. I am sort of relieved that I dodged a bullet with this company but it came at a price. I advise everyone looking to work here to really think twice and don’t take more than a day to respond otherwise they’ll revoke your offer and ruin your life.
Terrible company and terrible people.

Terrible experience – DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! I recently engaged the services of global work and travel to become an au pair in Italy. minimal contact from this company. I planned my departure date for early June 2024 and didn't get placed with a family until July. Leading up to my departure there was very little communication and I had to demand host family options to be sent through so I could leave closer to my intended date. After pushing for action I was sent only 2 options of host families and then realised that these families were screened from a different au pair company in Italy, which I then was passed onto while being abroad, having no idea that this was my contact for any issues being overseas. once a host family contacted me I was required to be in Italy in less then a weeks time even though I had been in contact with Global work and travel for over 12 months. My flight itinerary was sent through to me on the most ridiculous airline and route, that I had previously started I did NOT want to fly with. My parents then helped me find my own more appropriate flights that we sent through to the 'so called' travel agent at global work and travel, that then asked me to pay extra for this flight and route.
I flew over 32 hours and was guaranteed to be picked up from the airport from my host family, this changed to me having to catch a train to a central location to then be picked up, at my own expense. I was there less then 24 hours before my host family expected me to start unpaid work even though my written contract and verbal agreement stated that my contact didn't begin until the following week, and that I would have initial time to adjust and settle in.
On arrival to my host families holiday destination I was required to share a bedroom with a male house keeper on both the ferry and the islands accommodation. I had absolutely no privacy and the bedroom was tiny. I was dealing with children with terrible behavioural issues and an extremely dysfunctional family. This experience was sold to me as a cultural exchange as written on my contract, along with set hours and days. This however was breached my whole time abroad!. The family were not willing to show me around the area, take me to meet new people or engage in any activities that highlighted their culture. I was then to blame for not making enough of an effort with the people around me that spoke very little English.
With absolutely no structure, difficult kids and family I found myself to become very mentally exhausted and isolated with no support from this agency. After many phone calls back home being extremely upset about my experience, I decided to reach out to global work and travel for extra support and alternative options, but found it difficult get hold of anyone from the agency, after being guaranteed a direct line, which I didn't have access to. They just resorted to telling me I was 'homesick'. I was passed on to the Italian au pair cooridnanter to work things out. I was obviously upset on the phone and she didn't want to listen to me upset so she told me she would call me back that afternoon once I was feeling better. I did not receive a call back!!
Throughout my whole time abroad I made sure I was communicating about how I felt with my host family, but they struggled to understand and thought I was the problem. there was no compromising to how I felt, or any ideas to help me enjoy my time away. When I finally decided to leave my host family and cut my contract short, I then started being ignored and treated in a horrible way, and also only received payment for 1 week out of the whole month I was away. After expressing my feelings to my host mum i started getting mentally abused, horrible comments were said to me infront of the children.
I had an agreement with my host mum to only be working half days, and she would spend the rest of the day with her children. This in fact was not the case and she would change the times to suit herself with no prior notice. I was getting the blame for not being with the kids when it was my time off, but she seemed to have better things to do than look after her own children.
On my departure home requesting that I needed to pick up my belongings from there apartment, in a different location. I was told there was no one at there apartment to let me get my stuff. This was false as my host dad was there most days. I reached out to global work and travel and the Italian agency for further help on getting my belongings to come home, and they were told I was not able to access the apartment, and no further action was taken from the agency to help me get home. I had to work this out on my own. I booked all my own accommodation, train travel, flights etc, to get out of Italy. To this day I have had no contact with any of the agent coordinators about my experience. In fact I still believe they think in Italy.
please be careful and do your research before going on a work and travel holiday with this company. You will waste a lot of money and get nothing out of it.
