The worst bank in Australia. No Customer Service. They fraudulently report to credit reporting bodies in an effort to damage Customer reputations. They don't have any processes to support Customers and all their banking services are substandard.

Not happy. I was originally with a credit 31 years ago. Forgot the next C.Union Then Its amalgamation with CUA still good Then amalgamation with Great Southern Bank about 4 yrs ago. SLOW responses to enquiries about MY account. HAPPENED very badly once, this year, ready to pull account then a very professional informed fellow [Name Removed], fixed the problem so i agreed to stay.. Within 10 days of grace period expiring to make adjustments, then wrong information, then another 9 days.for further information. Again [Name Removed] from GSB tried to negotiate.to keep account.. Not prepared to hassle with this again 31 days notice but now it's 7 weeks because they didn't answer THEIR secure portal. I had to chase and chase with multiple calls. Can't backdate . Always an excuse. I had enough. Ok with general everyday banking. BUT if something is locked in. Check, check and check.

I have been with this group for 40 years (they were called Metropolitan Credit Union, Credit Union and now Great Southern) & have seen many changes, but their decision to close my bonus savings account (no longer a sale account) & not notify me of… Read more

terms on the account, is reprehensible, deceitful & unprofessional. Do NOT bank with them!!! I am now moving my money out & will happily close my accounts. It seems GS is the first bank I've heard of that punishes customers (by not paying bonus interest) on accounts with higher amount. Not exactly a great way to keep customers. I also note that they are no longer in the Top 10 Banks any more. No surprise.

Follow-up  · Thanks for your questions. Quick follow-up: I was contacted by GS Bank, via email. I chose not to respond because I'm fed up with organisations waiting for customer complaints to be proactive in the very customer service, which should be automatic. Excellent! – I have been with CUA (now GSB) since the 80s and my dealings with them has always been a very good experience. Never had an issue with their service and the interest rates on some of their special savings accounts beat any other bank I could compare with. Some years ago they were proactive in protecting me from Credit Card fraud so I did not lose… Read more ·  1

a cent.

GSB were an early adopter of the NPP (New Payment Platform) and OSKO fast transfer system so I can send money to other banks and the funds are there within minutes instead of taking possibly days. They also have PayID so you can provide people that need to transfer funds to you with just a phone number, email address or ABN instead of needing BSB and Acc number.

Online banking interface is excellent to use and is well featured with lots of ways to customise things such as account names, notifications via SMS or email. Online banking interface is easy, fast and responsive. I use it everyday in my business and it has never been unavailable to me. (offline)

I have not had a need to phone them in many years, but if I do have questions I use the message system within online banking and usually get a fairly prompt response. Saves wasting time on the phone.

Straightforward banking but with a three-hour caveat – I recently applied for an eSaver Flexi account and two Everyday Edge accounts with little to no issues. The only issue I've had so far is accidentally creating two customer numbers, which customer service have been actively resolving in a timely manner. I've received my two debit cards without any delays and the internet banking experience has… Read more

been smooth sailing.

The only issue is that the wait times on the customer service line can be at least an hour long. I have experienced as long as three hours while aiding another customer with their accounts. I'm not sure why the wait times are competing with Centrelink for the top spot in "Longest Wait Times" but I would like to see some improvement. Aside from the wait times, the customer service itself has been very pleasant. No rude behaviour and any information I've needed has been clearly communicated to me.

Overall, I have been very satisfied with my experience so far.

I applied for a home loan with GSB and received pre-approval based on the financial documents I submitted, including payslips, tax returns, bank statements, and the building and land contract. However, after the valuation, GSB rejected my loan application without directly providing me with a reason. They informed my broker that the rejection was… Read more

due to the "project structure of the townhouse development," not my financials. Yet, when I requested an explanation for the loan refusal, they sent me a letter stating:

“Our decision to decline your request was based wholly or partly on credit eligibility information about you.”

This statement contradicts the reason provided to my broker (which I have seen in screenshots). If my financials were inadequate, why was the pre-approval granted? If the project structure was deemed too risky, why wasn’t this identified when I submitted the build and land contracts? Based on this experience, I strongly advise against using this bank due to their inconsistent and unclear communication.

Great for everyday bank users. Really a credit union so they have rules. Not great if you want a home loan you can't afford. I like them. Been a customer for 40 years after getting screwed over by you know which bank. Show details ·  1

Business+ feels like a "Beta" system in a time warp I have been using the Great Southern Bank Business+ Saver for my SMSF, and while the account opening process eventually got across the line, the experience since has been a mix of competitive performance and baffling technical failures. perform transfers out without issue. However, I encountered significant friction early on with the legacy Great Southern Bank security team blocking incoming transfers, both Osko and BECS, from my other SMSF accounts with the same bank. It is a frustrating hurdle for a supposedly "seamless" digital offering.

The most concerning current issue is that the online portal keeps backdating the "send transfer" date to the previous day. Fortunately, the Business+ App is functioning correctly and allows processing transfers on the actual day.

While the interest rate is attractive, technical issues present a significant concern for anyone requiring 100% accuracy for business or SMSF record-keeping.

Feb. Today is the 10th of February and still no funds in my account was told after midday and still no money. Called and the lady on the phone has the nerve to ask “what’s the urgency to have this money back” well firstly it’s MY money not the banks and secondly the cut off time frame has passed and now it’s illegally being held. Each phone call I’m told “it’s sitting with management someone will call you back” surprise no one has called me back.

An active AFCA case and still nothing from GSB.

If you’re wanting a bank who will hold your money longer than legal GSB is your pick. Otherwise stay away

Serious security failures and appalling customer treatment Great Southern Bank allowed a fraudulent account to be opened in my name using a stolen copy of my driver’s licence. That alone demonstrates a deeply concerning failure in their ID verification and security processes. What followed was even worse. Across three separate calls to customer… Read more

service, I was given different and contradictory information each time about whether I could speak to the fraud team, what information could be provided, and what steps were being taken. There was no ownership, no consistency, and no sense that anyone was actually advocating for me as the victim of identity theft. On the final call, the customer service attendant was openly rude — sighing, attempting to cut me off mid-sentence, refusing to escalate the matter or transfer me to a supervisor or the fraud team, and repeatedly saying things like “I’ve been trying to tell you for five minutes”. I was told that “fraud won’t speak to you” and that they “can’t do anything”, full stop. Based on the attitude and dismissiveness, I have no confidence that my case was ever properly raised or advocated internally. What makes this even more unreasonable is that all I was asking for — on behalf of police — was the phone number and email address attached to the account opened in my own name. I can fully verify my identity and have all required ID. The police are now forced to seek a warrant, which takes time, and banks then take days to comply — during which time the email and phone details linked to the fraudulent account will likely be changed or discarded, undermining the investigation. In effect, Great Southern Bank enabled identity fraud and then actively obstructed the victim, while shielding the person stealing my identity. If you value your personal information, security, or being treated with basic respect when something goes wrong, do not bank here.

Their reply is as follows: “Thank you for your email. Please be advised your father's estate is currently being reviewed by a case manager Kind regards” stating case number 4098738

On enquiring with aged care providers, we were informed that other banks release funds within a week or two of probate being granted. Great Southern Bank are choosing to withhold funds which do not belong to them. I find this conduct and service deplorable. I will never bank with Great Southern Bank again.

any apart from Kent St In NSW. Unfortunately the performance of their online banking platform is absolutely abysmal. Many times I've been unable to perform basic banking tasks due to timeouts. Last Tuesday (25th Nov) the online portal was completely down for a time in the morning. The outage prompted me to look into my Home Loan interest rate and make market comparisons. It turns out I've been paying more than a full 1% more than the market norm for the type of loan I have. I contacted GSB to see what they were willing to offer me as a log term customer. Was hoping for them to meet the comparisons I had made. They weren't interested in doing that. GSB made what I would consider to be an insulting offer to move me across to one of their standard Home Loans and only offered to waive $100 of the $300 change fee. Of course its my responsibility to make sure I'm getting the best rate possible. But you would think a bank that cares about it's customers would advise that they have retired a home loan and make sure the customer is moved to the most recent product at a competitive rate. This bank does care about customer loyalty or even about their customers at all really. Circumstances prevent me from moving my Home Loan to another financial service provider until Late January but when that time comes I am gone from the horrendous bank.
