2 ehsan vossough  · Very poor service. Phones remain unasnwered. I requested to open a term deposit over 10 days a go, still not actioned. Staff not helpful.
1 kiy  · Do not go to this bank. Had trouble accessing my own funds. Sadly, even having my accounts closed is also too hard for them.
1 Elis  · If I could give NO STARS I would give -100 STARS. Run as fast as you can
5 Nathan  · Good clear advice, my Wife and I felt very welcome.
1 Armin M.  · temporary to permanent block on my account since January. when i called they said its still under review? for how long? 1 year?
1 Drew Bennett  · Loyalty Tax – GSB seems to value new customers more than existing customers (loyalty tax). Do not recommend.

I have had no problems with Great Southern Bank on an everyday, general and communication point in the past, however, when it comes to a loan; they wanted 10 months' worth of payslips. I've never heard of that before, and when I researched it, it is not normal. I have no problems in supplying 10 months' worth; however, I shouldn't have to, it's an… Read more

unrealistic expectation, when everywhere else only requires the last most recent three payslips.

I earn good pay, in a secure job, I've paid off my previous car loan a year ahead of schedule and I'm reliable...., now although they don't know this and this is my first time applying through them which could be why, I don't know, it's still unrealistic to expect people to supply 10 months' worth of payslips.

Needless to say, I didn't apply and go through them, the drama of finding 10 months of payslips and the principle of it, it's not worth it. They lost my respect.

And to top it off, the woman I spoke to cut me off at the end, then that survey thing on the end came on.

They've lost a good safe reliable customer over this. I don't recommend them based on their ridiculous expectations. :-(

I like My Great Southern Bank offering overall. Easy to contact and seem too have local Australian contact centre which you can ring. What has frustrated me for years is their very poor account software capability. Trivial to implement customer features that are not implemented. I have complained ever year for 11 years and supposedly it's been… Read more

raised y customer service.

One simple feature is you as a customer cannot press/select an option or search and get a single consolidated financial year transaction listing. You can only get either the last 6 months, 12 individual monthly statements for an account, or ring each year to get 1 or two pdf's to cover the financial year of the relevance.

I am happy to consult to GSB for FREE with both their business analysis and/or software developers to get a suitable outcome.

Hoping for an improvement please.

Excellent! – I have been with CUA (now GSB) since the 80s and my dealings with them has always been a very good experience. Never had an issue with their service and the interest rates on some of their special savings accounts beat any other bank I could compare with. Some years ago they were proactive in protecting me from Credit Card fraud so I did not lose… Read more ·  1

a cent.

GSB were an early adopter of the NPP (New Payment Platform) and OSKO fast transfer system so I can send money to other banks and the funds are there within minutes instead of taking possibly days. They also have PayID so you can provide people that need to transfer funds to you with just a phone number, email address or ABN instead of needing BSB and Acc number.

Online banking interface is excellent to use and is well featured with lots of ways to customise things such as account names, notifications via SMS or email. Online banking interface is easy, fast and responsive. I use it everyday in my business and it has never been unavailable to me. (offline)

I have not had a need to phone them in many years, but if I do have questions I use the message system within online banking and usually get a fairly prompt response. Saves wasting time on the phone.

Straightforward banking but with a three-hour caveat – I recently applied for an eSaver Flexi account and two Everyday Edge accounts with little to no issues. The only issue I've had so far is accidentally creating two customer numbers, which customer service have been actively resolving in a timely manner. I've received my two debit cards without any delays and the internet banking experience has… Read more

been smooth sailing.

The only issue is that the wait times on the customer service line can be at least an hour long. I have experienced as long as three hours while aiding another customer with their accounts. I'm not sure why the wait times are competing with Centrelink for the top spot in "Longest Wait Times" but I would like to see some improvement. Aside from the wait times, the customer service itself has been very pleasant. No rude behaviour and any information I've needed has been clearly communicated to me.

Overall, I have been very satisfied with my experience so far.

I applied for a home loan with GSB and received pre-approval based on the financial documents I submitted, including payslips, tax returns, bank statements, and the building and land contract. However, after the valuation, GSB rejected my loan application without directly providing me with a reason. They informed my broker that the rejection was… Read more

due to the "project structure of the townhouse development," not my financials. Yet, when I requested an explanation for the loan refusal, they sent me a letter stating:

“Our decision to decline your request was based wholly or partly on credit eligibility information about you.”

This statement contradicts the reason provided to my broker (which I have seen in screenshots). If my financials were inadequate, why was the pre-approval granted? If the project structure was deemed too risky, why wasn’t this identified when I submitted the build and land contracts? Based on this experience, I strongly advise against using this bank due to their inconsistent and unclear communication.

No idea how to conduct Banking Business – Sent money to my Super fund for the end of financial year. GSB didn't transfer and sent me a txt at 5 pm. I couldn't accept at all what they were talking about and after talking to several people at GSB who wouldn't know what day it was, I asked to get someone to call me back as it was a real problem. That was several weeks ago and I haven't heard a word. I have now closed all my accounts with them as I cannot have any confidence in their hopeless banking system.

Follow-up  · The transfer still took a couple more days despite numerous calls. No refund was offered or any genuine reason or apology given. The cost was significant, not only did I have to wait a full year until I could claim my tax deduction for the Superannuation Contribution that was not processed but without the deduction of that contribution it put me into the higher tax bracket that year, costing me even more.

Great for everyday bank users. Really a credit union so they have rules. Not great if you want a home loan you can't afford. I like them. Been a customer for 40 years after getting screwed over by you know which bank. Show details ·  1

Follow-up  · I look at the bank protecting my money. Maybe they're not a credit union at all nowadays. I don't know, this is just MY honest OPINION. But I still like the attitude they show. They have low fees which was great when I was broke. I'm a loyal to this bank.

Great Southern Bank Business+ shares the same online web page as the traditional GSB products. However there is a disconnect between the old and new platforms. Transfers between the 2 are treated as external bank transfers. The Term Deposit product on Business+ platform is less attractive compared to the old platform. A Business+ SMSF TD for 12… Read more

months offers 5.25% and no monthly interest option where on the old platform you can get 5.45% on maturity or 5.35% monthly. The only advantage of a Term Deposit on Business+ is that you can open an SMSF term deposit and self maintain it online wher the old platform requires a manual SMSF TD application even for an existing SMSF customer. As an SMSF manager I need quick application response as well as monthly interest payments to support my pension.

The bank that just keeps on giving. If you run a business through this bank be prepared for the following: Any one of your customers who are not happy with something can put a fraudulent claim against your business and dispute the transaction. GSB policy when dealing with these complaints is to take the complaint so seriously that they close… Read more

access to your account without any consultation. So NO MONEY IN AND NO MONEY OUT. So the complaint might be for $1000 and your business might have $100,000 in it. They will FREEZE YOUR ENTIRE ACCOUNT. That was a fun time, 3pm on an Thursday afternoon before Easter and you are trying to complete your payroll. FUN TIMES.

NOW - similar scenario. We have a debit Visa card allocated to our Business Account. For those of you who do not know how a Visa Debit Card works. Only amounts that can be covered by the money currently sitting in your account can be used. Let me repeat that for the hard of hearing - Only amounts that can be covered by the money currently sitting in your account can be used. So apparently you are not allowed to spend more than $9900 on your Visa Debit Card that has a much larger balance than that. So HOW THE HELL ARE WE SUPPOSED TO RUN A BUSINESS AND PAY FOR BASIC THINGS - AIR FARES, ACCOMMODATION AND THE LIST GOES ON.

I have never had any of these issues when it was CUA. GSB can suck eggs. If you are looking for a financial institute to work with you and help you grow your business. DONT USE Great Southern Banking because there is NOTHING great about them. Rant over, accounts being closed.

Each phone call I’m told “it’s sitting with management someone will call you back” surprise no one has called me back.

Serious security failures and appalling customer treatment Great Southern Bank allowed a fraudulent account to be opened in my name using a stolen copy of my driver’s licence. That alone demonstrates a deeply concerning failure in their ID verification and security processes. What followed was even worse. Across three separate calls to customer… Read more

service, I was given different and contradictory information each time about whether I could speak to the fraud team, what information could be provided, and what steps were being taken. There was no ownership, no consistency, and no sense that anyone was actually advocating for me as the victim of identity theft. On the final call, the customer service attendant was openly rude — sighing, attempting to cut me off mid-sentence, refusing to escalate the matter or transfer me to a supervisor or the fraud team, and repeatedly saying things like “I’ve been trying to tell you for five minutes”. I was told that “fraud won’t speak to you” and that they “can’t do anything”, full stop. Based on the attitude and dismissiveness, I have no confidence that my case was ever properly raised or advocated internally. What makes this even more unreasonable is that all I was asking for — on behalf of police — was the phone number and email address attached to the account opened in my own name. I can fully verify my identity and have all required ID. The police are now forced to seek a warrant, which takes time, and banks then take days to comply — during which time the email and phone details linked to the fraudulent account will likely be changed or discarded, undermining the investigation. In effect, Great Southern Bank enabled identity fraud and then actively obstructed the victim, while shielding the person stealing my identity. If you value your personal information, security, or being treated with basic respect when something goes wrong, do not bank here.
