Good reliable family car with a hint of fun – Owned since new for 9 years. Family car for 2 adults and 2 small children. Used several times a day around suburbs with occasional long trips. 145k kms. Rarely off road, but good when 4wd required. Serviced each 15k. Had trouble with aircon when driven on long trip over 5 days of 40C. No other serious issues. Replaced front inside door handles… Read more

myself - they snapped. First 20m slow but good accel once turbo kicks in. Fuel economy about as specified. Tows 1 ton trailer well.. can do more. Back paint showing wear after daily exposure in carport. Easy to drive. Have bought a bigger family car for wife and kids, and keeping GW for work and golf familt etc. Happy with purchase and confident to replace with haval h6 or the like when time comes.

Great Value SUV Great Wall Turbo Diesel X200 Built DEC12 – Purchased a DEC12 Built Great Wall SUV X200 2L Diesel. First on Road May13 65,500KM & appeared to be serviced well. Viewing the Great Wall reviews on web which indicated typical issues with this later model ie No problems to date except under warranty Rear Sensors which were not working had a few loose wires & small tailgate switch stopped… Read more ·  2

working so need to climb in back to open. Fixed under warranty. For value paid well worth it; good options are leather seats, rear vision mirror auto dims rear lights & tyre pressure sensors as required.

Auto wipers & headlights work well. Rear fog lights were disconnected & are handy. Fiddly spot to reconnect.

Need to be aware of DPF engine oil & changing oil filter is not easy without a filter wrench (whilst doing it change air filter as well for easier access). SUV has a lot of plastic except leather seats but this also stops stains as happens with vinyl Looks clean all the time but may emit plastic odour.

Steering wheel controls re radio phone & cruise control work well. Dash bit hard to read in bright daylight but fine at night or dims days. Hill starts a pain re delay but switch off DSP alleviates this. Switching into AWD quite good on steep slippery roads or drives. Diesel Economy around town semi rural about 10L/100KM or 28MPG in old standards. Note this 5% reduced as speedo reads 5K above real speed according to my GPS mounted on dash. L/KM monitored continually on dash as is Cruise Control when switched. Headlight adjustment level handy as is Front & Rear Fog Lights. Top Red Lights on tailgate apparently never used? Tyre changing gear hidden under rear passenger Drivers side tricky!

Service the Diesel with the best DPF oils & change filters, injector cleaners etc & yes @75K to 80K Timing belt with a possible water pump check as well.

When buying; Other SUVs had 100K extra on the clock (not turbo diesel) & were 5yrs older for same price.

Using Great Wall named Pearls (as Pearl Black) partime work & private use. Does the job well & write off insurance is actually higher than what I paid for it!

Deadly car – Bought my 2013 Great Wall SUV 1 month ago, looks very nice on the road and only has 61000 ks on the clock. cranky pants on when I take it back. Travelling on the highway on Sat 9th Sept 2017, I went up a steep incline, started at 100 kms per hour, within 5 seconds vehicle had lost all power, I eventually changed right back down into 1st gear, vehicle was doing 30 kms per hour, traffic was backed up behind me, I was able to pull off the side of the road to get out of the way, a semi trailer was was travelling in the same direction and I needed to get out of his way before he ran over the top of me. Very angry that my life was put into danger by the this totally unreliable vehicle.

I have no faith in this car at all, power on take off is very low, I am not game to over take a vehicle because the car keeps flat lining.

I would not recommend anyone to buy by this model..

Best value SUV in Australia – We have owned our X200 since new in 2012 and though it has not been the most reliable of all the cars I have it has been better than most. At 75000 is it is still on its original tyres and the front pads still have 30% left on them. (Ironically the rear pads where replaced at 30000 by Bendix pads and they are still on 40% after 45000) We have… Read more

just had the first headlamp bulb blow and the car is now due for cam belt. The clutch is still original despite the fact we have pulled Commodores and Falcon home on a car trailer on numerous occasions . It actually handles the towing better than my V8 Caprice !

Any problems I have had I have been able to fix myself such as the turbo lag was fixed by a cheap Polish chip and blocking The EGR off.

The X200 has been the cheapest new car I have owned both in running costs and the purchase price . Yes I know it has bad resale value but hey the most I can lose is 25k that a lot less than l lost on any of my previous Holdens And Toyotas. It also get the job done and does most things as well as other 4wd costing more than double the price. The worst thing about owning the Great Wall is the brand snobbery in Australia .

A lot of car for the price – Great vehicle for the price! Has been a great work car, quite reliable. We did have an issue during one of the services where there was a tear in the air inlet pipe leading to the turbo which was replaced under warranty. Radio forever staticy and usb plug doesn’t work, inside cigarette lighter Came apart so now doesn’t work. The car looks great but like most things in China it’s a piece of garbage. Show details

Can't complain for the money – Bought the X200 from dealer in 2013, demo model. The only problem I have had with the car was the brakes, swapped them out for Bendix. Never took it to the dealer for service as they are complete… Read more

rip off merchants, the warranty is a joke as well, found a good garage and they do all the servicing on it for less than half the dealer price. Awesome value at the price – I've previously had a new Hyundai Santa Fe Tdi, and couldn't afford to replace it, so looked at the Great Wall X200. In 2015 I purchased a 2012 X200, in immaculate condition, with 20,000 on the clock for just NZ$18,000. I've now had it 18 months and put 30,000km on it, without any major problems whatsoever. Minor problems have been: - cheap… Read more

headlight bulbs blowing (replacements are simple and inexpensive)

- poor quality rubber on the turbo intake hose, which needed to be replaced

- poor front wheel alignment

Other than those, it has performed well, tows excellently, and offers an incredible amount of value for a relatively low price.

I've been really happy with my purchase and never regretted it for a minute.

Great for the money I paid – Goodaye, bought my X200 in 2012 with all the options fitted (sunroof, side steps, nudge bar, GW carpets, towbar, front windows tinted and all the plastic protection for lights and bonnet etc.). warranty: Turbo hose, rear compartment cover retaining clips? and the doodad clip that allows you to remove the rear headrests. Weirdest warranty issue we had was the original tyres. They began to shred at about 20,000 kms. Replaced with much better tyres that are still going strong at 70,000 kms plus. Since having the turbo hose replaced we have developed an annoying vibration coming from the vicinity of the right front guard. Dealers could not locate so one day I will rip apart and try to fix myself. Have had the right headlight blow 3 times now. Pain in the but to replace, but managed without having to remove any other surrounding parts or headlight module. I use some fishing line through the prongs to keep a hold of the bulb because very easy to drop into the abyss as I did on many occasions. Had to buy a flexible magnet to recover.

Had the ECU mod done by dealer which did make a slight difference in the take off power. Later fitted the Polish el-cheapo ECU box that did make a difference. (still not as good as I would really like). Tried the blanking plate (one with the hole in it) and believe it made absolutely no difference and actually used more fuel. Would like to try a throttle controller, but have not found one that fits the X200.

I do like the interior. Have fitted a dash mat to hide the plastic cheep looking dash top. Had a look at the Mitzy Challenger recently and believe the X200 offers far superior quality and dash looks especially when you consider the price difference. Pity the rear seats don't lay flat, but has not hindered any luggage carrying capability.

We have the silver X200 with tinted windows and find that it is a very pleasing to look at vehicle. Very sleek and stylish. Paint work is thin and has needed many touch ups but always scrubs up like a new vehicle when washed.

Have not done a great deal of offroad adventuring with my X200, but have found it to be quite sure footed in loose road conditions. The on-demand 4WD systems appears to work quite well even on mild sand conditions. Would be interest to hear of any extreme offroad adventures using the X200!

Fuel economy on the open road is great. The manual indicates that the vehicle has a 76 litre fuel tank. When you fill to the first click at the bowser, in most circumstances it is around the 60 litre mark. I believe that this was the reason that earlier reviews saw owners stating that fuel economy was poor and not what was indicated by GWM. I continue to fill until I can see that the level is stable at the top of the fuel pipe and have managed to gain around 1000 km to a tank. Around town I get around 800-900 ish kms.

I find the car is very comfortable on the open road and the stock suspension performs to an acceptable standard. Has become softer as the car has aged and actually feels nicer than when newer. Little bit of a roll on tight corners but acceptable.

Overall, I think I have purchased a great vehicle for the money I outlaid. I live in NQ and have unfortunately found resale value to be quite pathetic. My X200 is in exceptional condition and could easily pass off as a near new vehicle even though it is nearly 4 years old. One dealer offered me $4,000 as a trade in on a $50,000 replacement vehicle. Another dealer stated that it is the consumer that determines the resale value!!! I think if more people realised the capability and value for money of this vehicle they would consider as an option over more expensive 2nd hand offerings.

It had some teething problems during the first twelve months but settled has settled down.

Two things annoy me (1) Hill assist I just hate it. (2) Limp mode that has activated when a problem is perceived , I think that is a dam dangerous feature that cannot be disconnected but a lot of cars have this protection these days think it may protect the mechanical components from further problems and reduce warranty claims, however when it is activated on a freeway or traversing a busy intersection whew!!

Good all rounder – I leased a 2012 x200 with 14,000k on the clock purchase price 13,800. Now 6 months later and 20,000k I thought it would be appropriate to write a review. First the quibbles. reduced to a chug. I have fitted a chip and egr blanking plate which makes it better and next on the list is a throttle tuner. There is a fair amount of cabin noise for a modern car, could be fixed somewhat with sound deadener in the guards. The seats were hard initially but have got much better with time though I'm not keen on the cheap lumbar support. The USB connection on my stereo is a bit dicky but it's the rear lead where it goes into the console and was probably from the previous owner. The rear seat doesn't fold down properly due to the seatbelt mod done for aussie ADR. Occasionally I get the AWD light flashing but turn off and back on no dramas. Fuel cap is annoying and is hard to get full (slow down near end of filling)

That might sound allot but I actually like it. Here are the positives.

Leather interior wears well and is easy to clean. Reverse camera is excellent and glare on screen ia overcome by the beeping anyways. Love the tyre preasure monitors and are very accurate suprisingly. It's excellent on fuel, I get around 800k out of 60 litres. It cruises nice on the freeway too. It has been very reliable thus far. There is a power socket in the cargo area. It has an electric drivers seat. The mirrors are nice and big, visibility from the cabin is good for a modern car. Sound system sounds good. Bluetooth works well. Oh, it has hill start assist. The quibbles stated are more design flaws and I could probably find that many with any car hut the fuel economy, running costs and features I believe overcome this.

They are good value for money. I got an extended warranty for peace of mind and wouldn't suggest buying one without a warranty (unless it was stupid cheap) but I would do the same if I bought an VW tiguan.

Would I buy a nw one. No, not at the moment. Atteco and Great Wall need to sort out their differences and I would probably buy a tiguan instead (nearly same price)

A year and a bit on, 45000k later the car has been sold. In the last 4 months I had done an intercooler hose, turbo inlet hose and a rear cooling hose. The main reason for selling was the lack of confidence from dealers to supply parts. The lae suit between Great Wall and Ateco (the importer) had no light at the end of the tunnel. I got the last improved ( rubber not the original plastic) cooling hose in Australia. There is 41 on back order with an unknown delivery date.

It's a bit of a shame as it wasn't too bad. The motor has more power in in that's for sure, but there are older cars out there that while may have less features, they handle much better and are more comfortable.

If you do buy one, I wouldn't pay a cent over 8k for a diesel or 5k for a petrol.

Was great when we purchased it a few years ago but there is better for cheaper now – I purchased my great wall in 2012. Upon purchasing it, it was perhaps the best value AWD on the market. Have owned it now for two years and have been disappointed on several levels since. The drop in price of the new car market has impacted greatly on the resale value of these. In fact they are near impossible to sell. We have been trying to sell… Read more

ours for some time but without success unless we wanted to sell it for next to nothing. There are now probably better cars for the money with a better resale. Otherwise the car has performed quite well. We have had a few warranty issues, air conditioner packed it in, tyre pressure gauge was faulty, some plastic became loose on the passengers side, leather bit came off the gear stick however we had no issues getting these problems fixed under warranty. The motor does perform very well. There has not been an issue at all with it. It is zippy, quick and has plenty of power on the highway. Will overtake very easily at 100k's. The turbo is great. Is a little sluggish to kick in from take off but you do learn to drive it to get around that problem. Rev's need to be a little higher to ensure a smooth and reasonably zippy take off. Fuel consumption is not as good as I had hoped for a diesel, but it is okay. Around 550 k's to a tank. The interior I don't mind but the seats are a little uncomfortable on long journey's - hurts your backside - and the lack of drink holders is a definite design fault for the Australian market. Sunroof is good, no issues. The AWD works without issue and it is easy to change between 2WD and AWD. Though I really have not had much need to have it in AWD. Be aware, they are not a 4WD despite the badging. The paint on these are thin. They are very easy to scratch and I wouldn't imagine there would be too much allowance to cut and polish them on a regular basis. However after two years, the paint still looks good and when washed looks new. If you get one with an original petrol cap note that they have printed the open and close directions incorrectly. They are a bit tricky. I would recommend changing it at your earliest convenience as they can be like opening a child proof bottle at times if you don't know the trick to them. No problems with any of the electrics. The only other thing I would suggest is if you buy one, ensure that you change the oil in the gear box to a high quality Australian oil. They come with a cheap chinese oil upon purchase which makes the gear change extremely difficult. By extremely I mean un-drivable. Even difficult with double clutching. A change of oil does correct the problem, however it takes a good 7,500 k's to run the gear box in. Overall, at the time of purchase, we thought it was a good buy. Had the new car market not become so competitive, we probably still would. Overall I think it is a good car and a used one is probably very good value at some of the prices I have seen them go for. I took one star off for the resale difficulty from purchasing one new and one star off for the warranty issues we have had. Would have preferred to have said we had no issues but its not the truth unfortunately.

What customer service.. There isn't any! – Did my homework before I bought my very first new car... Thought all was good and was happy until the vehicle was off the road.. First time I could drive the car into the dealer for repairs but it took 3 week (have my own business and without a car there is no income). Second time it had to be towed - 7 weeks without a car = no income... This time… Read more

it had to be towed again and have been told it will be at least 6 weeks = no income... I have been told that the parts needed will take that long to get to Tasmania :-( I could somehow deal with all of this but the customer service that great wall say they offer just is not there. Nowhere to be seen... This car seems to be costing more than if I had bought a Jeep... With the car being off the road (no fault of my own) no income = very unhappy great wall owner and poor business man!
