Great Runabout – I purchased a used 2011 X240 and for the price I find it pretty good quality. DRIVING EXPERIENCE: The Mitsubishi sourced 2.4L 4 cylinder engine is gutless at start but maintains a good highway pace. Steering handling is tight and responsive. Others have said that it is difficult to shift gears. I find it OK - you do not have to guide the… Read more
stick, except for the hard shift into reverse. Overall vision is good, blind spots are typical for this size vehicle, but the reverse camera makes life easier when reversing.
THE INTERIOR: The leather seats are comfortable. I like the electric controls for the driver's seat, but I felt a little let-down when I discovered that the front passenger seat was fully manual. Legroom is sufficient for tall people like myself, though the headroom is lacking. The dash cluster tach and speedo are difficult to see during the day. But all controls are well lit and adjustable in dark environments.
The standard stereo unit plays audio CDs, and has a USB input in the console box which does nothing. I have to use the AUX input to broadcast m mp3 collection and Navigator prompts. But no matter what I am listening to, the phone bluetooth seems to work quite well and with steering wheel controls.
RELIABILITY: To be fair, I've only had this car for a few weeks so I can't yet give a fair opinion on it just yet. So far, she starts first go every time and gets me to my destinations near and far without any dramas. A tank of fuel can get me from Hervey Bay to Brisbane and back home, with some to spare.
OTHER LACKING: As an avid 4WD fan, I don't like that 4x4 function is available only offroad, and for soft trail driving only. A comfort driver like this needs CRUISE Control, and more options such as V6 and diesel on the lineup.
Overall, this car is not my first choice on the list. But it's a good daily driver and can accommodate four adults and room for groceries in the covered boot.
Arrg this car drives me insane but who would buy it of us? – Radio is absolutely worthless as no reception, reverse camera don't give you a clear view in majority of situations, auto lock can accidentally lock kids in car during hot day and would threaten their lives, the aircon is only in the front and not actually cooling down much at all despite being topped up with the gas and circulates super poorly… Read more
and not all around like the Kia Carnival for instance where the kids actually don't get overheated on a hot day here in Aus. Seats are comfortable, however seatbelts jam all the time creating huge fuss with the kids who will have a proper meltdown and you'll need to pullover frequently to correct this if your kids like ours actually aren't mannequins from a shop window placed in a car seat. So far we've bought it for about $6000 from a car dealership and within 3 months of buying it not having even gone 100 000km our battery needed replacing costing us a whopping $400, then a month and a bit ago the gearbox and a few other bits adding a bill of $1900 recently and I am afraid what the service will say once it's been property checked over OMG and let's not even start talking about the paint job of this Vehicle, it's actually so thin it's already rusted in small dots over the hood and peel off the rear side doors, simply put not enough paint job, so cheap as car - cheap as but cool gadgets not sure if it's worth all this hazzle as we didn't expect this car to read down less than a year after we bought it and had to be towed about 3-4 times now..... yes I'm not a happy mum however online on the tests it seemed to actually do brilliantly in 4WD... so that I haven't trie yet...running costs are actually more than you'd expect of a manual car of this size, legroom is ok if you're 170cm tall or below however dashboard is high up and restrict my vision but cool that the seat is remote controlled, interior the "leather" wears off quickly in te heat no doubt as it cracks when just touching it and that's with taking care of it like a baby giving it polish etc. I guess this is for families who want a cheaper but bigger car however I think a Holden Commodore or Kia Carnival or even a Volvo Wagon would last longer with less maintenance issues.
Greatwall X240 is Great! – Hi All, I bought a 2011 greatwall x240 second hand. I have put the car through mud, over rocks and bottomed it out numerous times four wheel driving. All I can say is, it's fantastic offroad!!! It has 4wd low range which has helped immensely offroad. I would not buy any 4wd without low range. It's actually a very simply engineered 4wd which… Read more
is a good thing IMHO, because it makes the car easy to work on. I've just replaced the timing belt myself and it was easier than I thought as there is ample room in the engine bay.
The car has a tonne of extra features; rear camera, reverse sensors, auto wipers, auto headlights, adjustable headlight beam, front and rear fog lights, abs, ebd, etc...
One negative is the airbag light goes on due to the poor connector of the driver side air bag behind the steering wheel. I've rerouted the yellow airbag wire so it has more slack and secured it better so it does not pull away from the connector and have not seen it light up again.
Another negative is the headlight beam adjuster motor was ceased on the right, so I had to take it out and repair it. After this, it was working okay.
Last negative is the car is NOT fast. It is slow, but heck, it's a 4wd and it's suppose to be slow. There is a flat spot at around 2000 rpm which is there sometimes, and sometimes not. The car get's around 10-11 litres per 100kms around town and can get down to 9lts on the highway.
It's been rock solid reliable getting me to and from work. I bought it at 59k kms and is now at 82k kms. In that time, we've taken it on two camping holidays and I am totally confidant in the car.
If you want a cheap and reliable 4wd, there is simply nothing else that comes close.... I don't know how the chinese can sell them for 24k drive away brand new???
If this car is totalled, I will go out and buy another one straight away as there is nothing on the market that has 4wd low range for 24k.
Hope that's been helpful.

Has been great to drive love the seats, rear camera etc – However have now had three problems so did research and found many cars from Audi to i30 to whatever cars are having the same problem with ESP light and loss of power!! So feel better it is not only great wall! It appears to be a sensor in the ABS pump (found more than ten views about this...) and you need to find someone with Vagcom to make an… Read more
accurate diagnosis. Getting an offer of goodwill for the repair is worth trying as it has been a fault in manufacturing and VAG have taken a long time to admit it...if they are the manufacturer. So now to see if I can find someone to do the diagnosis and get it fixed! IIRC the fault code is G201 sensor and there is a akit to fix it as well for some models of cars Part number I believe is: 1K0 698 517 B

Dont buy unless you want to pay big $ in repairs – Warning, stay away. Had our X240 from 65K to now 150K. never been off road and serviced by the book. The list of monthly repairs goes on and on. Repairs to keep it going have cost 8k so far, and now we find out another $1,500 to fix up the engine management system. just not good sense. just a quick snap shot of what went wrong....this is not the full list.....rear diff blew, rear tail gate door handle x 2, door opening cables x 5, electric window motor switches x 6, numerous electrical faults and false alarms, 4wd system does not/has never engaged, electric seats randomly move to odd positions, engine control system/computer misfunctioning, various lights blow or blown, gearbox has never been able to change gears without coersion, just stay away, and btw, fuel consumption is not good.
Shifter assembly – Any idea of what kind of shifter assembly i can attach to my x240 great wall? I want to replace the old one cause theres too much play and its very loose. I can find a diagram of how it looks and i want to install a short throw shifter. Show details

Biggest heap of junk ever – I bought brand new 2012 model, from the second day problems started, dealership and warranty mob fought me all the way. It spent more time in the shop for warranty items leaving me with no car in a rural area with no public transport. The head gasket blew and that was the final straw, I lodged a complaint with the ACCC they advised me to get rid of the car which I did. What a joke wouldn't recommend these to my worst enemy. Fairly Good – When i bought this car, everyone gave me a bad review regarding this car, however my experience with this car is not too bad. it never gave me a trouble. It runs well, Good engine. only issue with the color, engine pickup, and interior. otherwise good car in low price. Show details
Terrible car – The car itself is simple to drive but it looks and feels as cheap as it is. Having the x240 for only a couple of month, things ready started to deteriorate. The gear stick boot started to fall apart, the steering wheel went all flakey (yes it was out of the sun). We just had so many problems with it within a couple of months owning the car. Show details

Five years old and @ 66K head gasket goes and takes engine with it – Had from new and never missed servicing, 66K and 5 years old and car is basically useless due to head gasket failure with subsequent damage engine. No sign of troubles until got to destination and noticed burning smell. Temperature gauge stayed rock steady. Not worth repairing and will go to an early grave. Show details

, the 4 wd drive bit is exciting clunky , ,and the radio c/d player has a mind of its own , it eats c/d , it can't find a station around the corner ,
Strangley you grow fond of the car maybe it is a mechanical version of the baron munchasen sydrome of self inflicted pain ,once they have finished using us to sort out their problems it would be a reasonably good car , I hope I live long enough
No worries Great Wall – Have done over 150000 km owned it since new 2011, no problems at all, service regular, only fault lacks power up hill and when towing the boat. 10lt per 100kms love all the extras, blue tooth, leather, reserving camera, DVD, sun roof. Great valve for your money! Hope they sort out the distributing rights and replacement parts are easily to get. As the great wall should stay - no 4x4 beats it for value. Show details

A piece of crap – We have had this car since new 2012 and have had nothing but problems with it since day one, Cardiff Toyota have not been at all helpful and everything that has gone wrong has always been within a week of it being serviced and of cause none of these problems are covered under their so called warranty..it has just had its 60000 service and again 2… Read more

not so great a car – the car not long after purchasing it had the dangerous issue of stalling while driving it, It was fixed by the dealer or so I thought several years later it's now happening again. The last time i drove it when was on the way to work in peak our traffic. I only had to drive 5 km and the engine would of turned off at least 15 times 2 of those times… Read more
was while going around corners.Of course when the engine turns off you don't have full steering. I was very lucky i didn't crash the car. I'm now in the process of trying to get this issue fixed and hopefully not at my expense. After my experience with the car and other issues which include poor quality of the leather seats and the rubber seal around the windows looking like they are 20 years old and not 5 years old which it actually is, I would not recommend this car to any one. If any one else has had this problem I would love to hear from you.
buy the cheapest car your ego allows – i have a 2010 greatwall petrol. Pleasantly surprised and impressed – Purchased mine 3yrs old with only 44k on the clock, have now owned for 6 months and put 20 on it and it hasn't skipped a beat. Has been excellent on fuel even when loaded, averages 9.5L/100 combined (country driving, town driving and some long distance open road). double for a Prado? ?? Great Wall roadside assist has been good, only because the handbrake locked the keys and immobilized it...... but then worked out how to reset myself and no problems. I am keen to see what it will be like for longevity, as I plan to have the vehicle for another 4 years before upgrading
Good bang for buck – Bought the car new, have now done over 150,000km. Lacks a bit of power, has a bit of rust, but before we bought it salesman told us it did not have the rust protection like other vehicles. Pfft. Runs fine on the Opal fuel which is only a 91Ron, it likes 95ron and above but it is not available in this area.
Only time it was a dealer is when it was bought, do all my own repairs and servicing. Dealers are the problem with Great Wall. I also found many parts quite cheap.
I am an ex multi dealership Tech and have had experience with many makes and models and I find the X240 fine, yes it is no Prado but its not $60+ grand. I have found that some of the a top end vehicles are being made just as cheap in some areas(interior/plastics etc)
Suspension parts are Isuzu, engine Mitsubishi. easy.
200,000km now and still going. Oh its had lots more crap thrown at it. Way overloading it with goods for the community store when the truck cant get through. Think it was about 600kg of stuff at one point.
Its been in water over the bonnet(have a snorkle).
Handles the roads better than my work 200 series, 2016 hilux or even the latest Ranger(which I do like). It has got RAW4x4 shock absorbers though.
Warranty good luck with that – I have been left with a sour taste in my mouth due to the lies of my dealership who has sold me this vehicle. With 3 weeks left of my warranty they have decided that… Read more
they don't want to allow this to happen anymore :( I will not recommend to anybody who lives outside of a main CBD to purchase a greatwall vehicle.
Problems that I am having and have had with this vehicle:
My paint is flaking off, gear stick cover is deteriorating, 4WD light stays on, my car starts then turns it's self off, engine light will come on every once in a while, stereo buttons have crossed wires u press play and it goes to repeat u press repeat and it goes to random. Door handle cables snapped both driver and passenger side, front guard chrome flaking off, windscreen wipers only work on full speed, air bag light staying on, aircon stops and starts, sunglass holder broke, aircon vent broke, clips for back sun cover broke, 12v charge port didn't work.
I feel I have been sold a lemon or maybe this is the quality of the vehicle that they are distributing.
Either way it appears that these problems will not be getting fixed by the original agreement with motorco cairns. Leaving me to only give negative feed back to anybody who asks if they should purchase a greatwall vehicle my response will be a a straight forward no!
Thank you, Ultratune – Took the X240 in for service & to try and nut out why the loss of power. Drove away $2000 lighter in the pocket. Seems that the timing gear had to be taken off when the asbestos gaskets were removed. Unfortunately the timing gear was replaced with what I can only assume was a sledge hammer. The key way was damaged to the extent that it amazed… Read more
the mechanic that it had not shattered. It fell to the workshop floor in pieces when the pully was removed. The timing pulleys and tensioner were also shot due to the heavy handed reassembly.
The spark plug leads had to be replaced as they were also wrecked due to incopedent workmanship.
I now get the great mileage, 10k/ltr, which I had before these clowns removed the asbestos gaskets and dam near wrecked my motor.
Other issues are still there but they are minor & tolerable.
I still would never recommend a Great Wall to anyone. Ever!!!
Not happy – My x240 seems to be rusting away. Has since I bought it brand new in 2013. Asked dealer ship why they replied because they didn't do enough paint coats. I asked for it to be fixed under warrenty and they knocked back my request. How can you sell a car that rusts soo soon and it not be covered under warrenty? Show details

X240's Great – I did a lot of research on the Great Walls before I decided to buy the petrol over the diesel. A lot of people seemed to be unhappy with them. I bought mine in Nov. 13 and have now done 29,000 km and use 95 unleaded and when I can I use 98 which makes a big difference. As a 4x4, it is unbeatable in sand and mud and it feels great when you have the pleasure in pulling out a $60,000 4x4. My next 4x4 will be another Wall. Show details
Good and Bad but true – When i got my Great Wall it looks good but the Intake and Outtake was not up to date so its like buying a Bike then you have to buy Helmet and Lights.. OffRoad: Great Wall X240 super awesome i try and try driving in mud and sand small river Never got boged. OnRoad: when its a hot day i lose power the best fuel is 98 and i get 600 KM in one tank.
